Disney Land & Sea 2018: Part 3

It’s PART THREE of our Disney Land & Sea Vacation!

For those of you who are SO OVER the Disney posts…no worries, there isn’t another one until later next week 😉 .

For those of you who love a good travel post, today is a fun one!!  We visit the Bahamas and Castaway Cay (Disney’s private island).  If you missed the other posts, you can see them here:
PART ONE
PART TWO
And now for PART THREE!  The funny thing about today’s post is that it covers my least favorite day of the trip (if I was forced to pick one) and my favorite day.  Ready, set, go…

We woke up on this day excited about our port in the Bahamas.  Two years ago when we did this cruise, our day at the Atlantis Resort was my favorite…this year, the weather was yucky, so it wasn’t exactly my fave.  We put on our swimsuits and really tried to make the most of it…but it was raining and chilly most of the day (at one point, it was sideways raining like crazy!).  The good news is that it never lightninged, so we didn’t have to leave the pool area completely.  Here we are about to  go!  My hat is HERE.

The kids were SUCH TROOPERS!  They jumped into the water and totally made the most of our day!  Madeley on the other hand is like “Whoa!  It is cold!!”.

Kensington and Ebby Lee didn’t let the weather spoil their fun either.

I’m cold too, Madeley.

At one point, we decided to get dry and warm and have lunch inside the hotel (instead of poolside like we had planned).  This was a much needed break from the weather.

And this is the last pic I took there that day.  What?  I don’t know…it just is.  By the last hour, we had rallied a bit.  The kids were all sliding and we all got in and did the lazy river.  The sun was even peeking out just a bit.  It wasn’t ideal, but we tried to make it fun.  That’s the thing about traveling, you really have to just roll with it.

After we were done for the day, we headed back to the ship and got ready for dinner.

On this night, we ate at Tiana’s Place, and it was so much fun!!  And my romper (which I didn’t realize was a romper until it arrived) is HERE.

Crazy fun dinner time!

Tiana’s Place was very Mardi Gras fun!  This guy showed up…

…and Miss Britt was not having any.  Hahahaha!  I love Erika’s face here!

The kids were having so much fun!

Out of all the princesses we met on the ship, Tiana was my favorite.  She was just GOOD at being Tiana!  She took her time with the kids, she was so attentive, so sweet and just too cute for words.

The kids loved her too!

One of my favorite things was that after dinner, the kids all played in the kids club area and the four adults went to a game night at the British pub on board.  We had a blast every night! The lady who hosted the games was just FUN!  We would go for about an hour and then grab the kids on our way to that evening’s show.  Such a fun time.

The next morning, we woke up in…

…beautiful Castaway Cay!  This is Disney’s own private island and it’s spectacular!

This was the view from our balcony.

The weather was sunny and bright…the perfect day for a beach trip!

It was also our 14th wedding anniversary.  How can that be?!  I couldn’t have celebrated in a more special way.  Andrew and I had a blast at Castaway Cay!

Madeley was having a blast on board that morning as we ate breakfast 🙂 .

Smith too.  Ha!

Britt was all “look at my cute hat!”.  Isn’t she such a doll?!?!

We arrived and were ready to enjoy the day!  My cover-up is HERE and hat is HERE.

The little tram took us from ship to beach.

Looking back at our ship.

Oh goodness!  We were so happy to be there!!

Pure joy!

This girl is just so beautiful!

We camped out for the day and loved life!!

This was Madeley’s first time to visit the beach…

…and she was a fan.

The Shull six had the BEST day!!  What a wonderful way to celebrate our marriage.

When it was time to get back on the ship, we weren’t quite ready to clean up, so the kids rode the slides on the boat a bit.

I love how Bowen is cheering them on 🙂 .

Then, it was time to get ready for the ship’s Pirate Night!  This is so much fun too!  So many of the kids and even some adults on board gets involved and dressed up.  Plus, the “cast” of the ship is fully decked in pirate gear.  Arg!

I bought these pirate costumes online after Halloween when they were much discounted.  Isn’t she so cute?!

Our littlest two pirates 🙂 .

Bright pink shoes for the win!  These are exactly like my other ones (in tan nubuck) but pink instead.

Dinner on Pirate Night for us was back at Tiana’s Place but with a completely different menu.

Anniversary dinner plus ten. 🙂

My dress is HERE and comes in other colors.

The great eight on Pirate Night!

After dinner, we went to see the comedian/magician show on board and then it was time for the Pirate Night Party on the top deck.  This is always so much fun!  At one point, I looked at Andrew and said, “This is why Disney Cruise Line is my favorite”.  A huge fun party plus they shoot fireworks off the ship!

Besties.

All the kids dancing!

Arg!

Pirate Night ROCKS!

I love that girl back there so much 🙂 .

During the party, the cast comes out and they’re even wearing pirate stuff!

Makin’ memories.

It’s hard to keep that pirate energy up all night long.

It was a magical day.

Whew!

Okay, only one post left next week 🙂 .  Tomorrow, I have a super-sized edition of my Friday Favorites.  Don’t forget, if you want to talk to our travel agency about our services, we are currently accepting new client vacations for Walt Disney World, Mexican all-inclusives and cruises all around the world that depart AFTER June 1, 2018.  (We plan trips for existing clients anywhere in the world outside the Continental US.)  Coming soon…we are going to be opening up a new area for new clients, so stay tuned for that!  You can reach us at mixandmatchtravelagency@yahoo.com .

We did a land and sea Disney vacation last summer with our friends. My kids LOVED it! And Castaway Cay was definitely our favorite day! It’s hard to top a Disney cruise for sure 🙂

  • Elspeth Mizner March 22, 2018 at 5:35 am

These recaps are my favorites!! Love all the memories you guys are making! What fun!

  • Laurie March 22, 2018 at 6:00 am

What great friends/family memories! Have y’all experimented with Concierge level yet? I think you all would really get a lot out of it, especially if you all book the cabana at Castaway Cay (the BEST day of the cruise, right?!). It makes the ship more intimate and the rooms are sooooo much roomier.
Thank you for sharing your lovely family with all of us!

  • Erika Slaughter March 22, 2018 at 6:07 am

Madeley Shull made the best pirate ever!! She was darling in her get up! And I’m sad to see the posts end! It’s been so fun getting to relive the trip!

  • Tina March 22, 2018 at 6:17 am

Love your blog and reading all of your travel recaps. We aren’t able to travel frequently so it is fun to “see” other places through your blog. We were on a four day cruise a few months ago I wish we could have spent more than one day in castaway cay. Highlight of our trip! we hung out on the adults only beach since our crew was 18 and over. Very relaxing and cast members would come by and take orders. My husband and I are ready for another Disney Cruise without our college kids!

  • Kristen Cole March 22, 2018 at 6:19 am

I could never get tired of any Disney posts! Disney vacations on the best! I love your posts 🙂

  • Narci Dreffs March 22, 2018 at 6:37 am

What a fun day in Castaway and pirate night looked like a blast!! I’m loving all of these recap posts!!

  • Lindsey March 22, 2018 at 6:46 am

Looks like y’all had the best time!! This is completely off topic but I can’t get over your skin in these pics! Are you still using Tula for moisturizer? You mentioned it once and I was thinking of trying it. I can’t seem to get my moisturizer right! Also going to talk to my dermy about the photo facial series. You look absolutely amazing!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 6:49 am

Yes!! And that new NeoStrata serum!!

  • Kelly March 22, 2018 at 7:29 am

I love sharing in your trip vicariously ! Looks so fun, and I love your attitude to roll with things. Such a great reminder to keep things positive and find tHe joy, even when it rains !

I wish Disney would roll out an adult cruise … everything they do is so excellent, but with a 19 and 20 year old, a ship filled mostly of families with children isn’t such a relaxing thought for me, now. (I loved and cherished those days… but feel peace and quiet is well deserved at this stage of life – ha!!). I would love that take advantage of the exceptional service and amenities they offer … they don’t have any other cruise offerings do they? In a few years I am assuming we will be back to kid trips with grand children (only God knows … but maybe ? 💕), but for now taking advantage of adults only vacations !

  • Sarah March 22, 2018 at 7:33 am

I feel like that adorable picture of Bowen and Ashby could also be them in like 30 years!! So fun!

  • Melissa March 22, 2018 at 7:43 am

Castaway is one of our favorite places on Earth! I tell everyone we know to go on the Disney Cruise at least once. It’s pure magic : )

  • Debbie March 22, 2018 at 7:55 am

Oh my goodness! My favorite are the girls pink terry swimsuit cover ups! Adorbs! I’ll take one in adult size please! 👚👚💕💕

  • Kelly March 22, 2018 at 8:12 am

Madeley Shull is the cutest little pirate!;) I love seeing the pics of your kids (and you!) enjoying themselves, so much fun!

  • Keisha Dawson March 22, 2018 at 8:29 am

It looks like y’all had the best time. So fun!

  • Bri March 22, 2018 at 8:42 am

I’ve been on the hunt for a cute, simple tan shoe to wear to graduation and I think I just found it (thanks to you!!). So glad you posted those shoes today!!! ❤️

  • Laci March 22, 2018 at 8:47 am

I never get tired of Disney post!! Castaway is my favorite port-it was BEAUTIFUL that day and you just can not beat the Disney Cruise Line!

  • Kimberly March 22, 2018 at 9:00 am

How do you pack your hats so they keep their shape?? Also, did you pack the puddle jumpers or did the ship provide some?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 12:31 pm

Carefully and with a prayer 🙂 . First, I stacked all three and then, I made sure there was stuff underneath them to help them hold the shape.

  • Alison T March 22, 2018 at 9:16 am

Oh my goodness, all those little pirates in their costumes!! Sooo cute. The “pirate night rocks” photo of Madeley is my fav. 🙂 What a fun experience and a magical memory for your 14th wedding anniversary!

  • Amanda @ That Inspired Chick March 22, 2018 at 9:17 am

Looks like so much fun!! Love all those cute little pirates!! That Inspired Chick

  • Brooke Richardson March 22, 2018 at 9:38 am

Okay lots to comment on. Lol. Here we go. I’m so glad you had amazing weather in castaway cay. What a perfect day! That pic of you and Andrew at Tiana’s place might be my fav pic of you 2. It’s so good!!!! Your hair is on point. And your pink shoes, I want those!!!! But I need your tan too. Lol. I don’t want these Disney posts to end!!! #disneyfever

  • Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams March 22, 2018 at 10:03 am

Um I didn’t know how badly I want a Disney Cruise in my life until these posts! Seriously, it looks like the best time. Pirate night?! The kids looked awesome and that was such a good idea to buy halloween costumes after the holiday. That stinks that your Atlantis day was cold and rainy, the pool pics made me reminisce about my trip last year. Can’t wait for one last post!
    xo

SO MUCH FUN!! We are a huge Disney family but have never done the Cruise. I have always wanted to but this post is making me itch to go on one! Nothing like a cruise mixed with Disney Magic! Love all the framily memories y’all make 🙂

  • Jen March 22, 2018 at 10:32 am

Do you have a preference on which Disney boat is the best? Are they all good? I wondered if they all have slides, fun things for the kids etc. I’ve heard some don’t have very big pools… just curious which you recommend. Thanks!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 12:30 pm

The slides are different on each one. Two of them are smaller ships…and we’ve now sailed one of of the big ones and one of the small ones. Honestly, they felt the exact same. I would pick dates and an itinerary you like and not worry about which ship it is. With only four in their fleet, you can’t go wrong.

  • Whitney Pegram March 22, 2018 at 10:57 am

Oh we LOVED pirate night!! So glad y’all had so much fun!!

  • Lisa March 22, 2018 at 11:59 am

Which double stroller did you guys use for your Disney trip?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 12:29 pm

We rented one from right there at Walt Disney World!

  • Amanda March 22, 2018 at 12:17 pm

Was this a 3 night cruise? Or a 4 night. We are going on one in November and wasn’t sure if it stopped at Atlantis along with Castaway Cove.

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 12:28 pm

We were on a four night cruise.

  • Susie March 22, 2018 at 12:42 pm

That pic of Madeley at the beach looking back at you is precious…one to be framed for sure! Question: is there a reason why new travel clients are somewhat limited in their destinations? Just curious, as we are thinking of an anniversary trip to either the Caribbean or Spain.

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 12:43 pm

It’s so I don’t ever have to turn down an existing client because I’m too busy with new clients. This helps me limit my new client vacations and ensure I have plenty of time for those returning clients. 🙂

  • Kelly W. March 22, 2018 at 12:46 pm

We went on a Disney cruise in January 2012 and had the exact same experience as you in Nassau and Castaway Cay! The day we were in Nassau was chilly and rainy, and just not very much fun. But, the very next day in Castaway Cay was beautiful and sunny and 80 degrees!

  • Ann Marie Tennison March 22, 2018 at 12:49 pm

Those are the cutest pirates ever!

  • Nicole March 22, 2018 at 12:54 pm

Ok you totally need to do a post on how you take such great selfies! You do a wonderful job of capturing your family- even if it’s only a little bit of each person in the shot. And they look authentic- not posed for the sake of a social media post. I think we could all learn a lot from your skills!

  • DANIELLE K RIGG March 22, 2018 at 1:41 pm

Looking at your pictures and seeing the joy in the little ones faces melts my heart. But I esp. thought of your two little ones. The love you have brought into their lives is unbelievable. You are truly an amazing Mama!

  • Michele Poteracki March 22, 2018 at 1:42 pm

I enjoyed your posts and pics so very much. I’m hoping to do a land and sea in the future. Your awesome posts make me even more excited to go.

  • Jami March 22, 2018 at 2:31 pm

Do you have any suggestions on where on the boat to get your stateroom? Forward/mid/aft as well as what deck?
I’m thinking fall 2019 sailings will be available to book by the summer and we are thinking of the same 4 night cruise, but in October. Now do I sacrifice size and not get the deluxe family stateroom so I can have a verandah or do deluxe family size and get large porthole?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 2:47 pm

I always prefer mid-ship to aft on deck 8 or higher.

  • Jami March 22, 2018 at 2:33 pm

One more thing… which Atlantis excursion did you choose? My oldest will be over 10, my youngest only 9, so for a family of 4 is it really almost $800?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2018 at 2:46 pm

      Yes, that’s the one!

  • Liz THORSON March 22, 2018 at 2:47 pm

Favorite pics: You and Andrew at your anniversary dinner! You looked gorgeous!
Madeley standing in the ocean for the first time!
Ashby and Bowen in their pirate costumes!
The 8 kids all decked out on Pirate Night!
    ❤️

  • Jenni Pace March 22, 2018 at 5:19 pm

We are going on a cruise for the first time in June. We will be going to Mexico. Is it necessary to get a passport or is a birth certificate sufficient?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 23, 2018 at 5:24 am

I always recommend getting a passport when leaving the United States.

  • Heidi March 22, 2018 at 7:20 pm

How far in advance do you recommend booking this type of vacation?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 23, 2018 at 5:24 am

I personally did it 14 months out. I think 12 is ideal but you can do it less.

  • Rose March 22, 2018 at 8:57 pm

Did you get the photo or the wifi package?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 23, 2018 at 5:23 am

We bought the wifi package, but didn’t get the photos.

  • Sarah Parsons March 23, 2018 at 9:26 am

Looks like you had a great time! Where did you get your cover up that you wore in Atlantis? I love the colors and the design!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 23, 2018 at 9:29 am

That was a Lily Pulitzer romper from last year.

      • Sarah Parsons March 28, 2018 at 12:34 pm

I thought it was Lilly! Thanks!

  • Cindy Smith March 23, 2018 at 2:33 pm

Do all Disney Cruises have a pirate’s night? Did you buy day passes from Atlantis or through Disney Cruise line?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 23, 2018 at 2:59 pm

If they stop at Castaway Cay (and don’t already have another promotional night), then yes. Fireworks are subject to weather.

  • Myra March 23, 2018 at 5:58 pm

Did you sail on wonder? I thought wonder and magic were the two smaller ones and fantasy and dream the bigger?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 24, 2018 at 5:31 am

Yes, I said it all backwards. My brain doesn’t work as fast as my fingers sometimes.

  • Krystle March 25, 2018 at 7:11 pm

We just returned from cruising on the Disney Wonder. I was catching up on your blog and OH MY GOODNESS…I see our awesome server Edwin serving your table!! We also had Anom and loved him and his magic tricks!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 26, 2018 at 5:22 am

      Yes!!!!!! They were SO GOOD!!!!
