It’s my Favorite Fall Beauty Buys!
These posts are my favorite to read on other people’s blogs, so I’m always excited to share them with you too.
I love beauty products (makeup, hair, face, bath, etc) and am switching them around all the time, BUT there are some that are tried and true favorites that I’ll never switch (I’m talking to you MAC mascara!). I mentioned this a few weeks ago, but one of my favorite parts about Kensington’s birthday trip to NYC was the impromptu makeover Erika and I got! We stopped at the Bobbi Brown counter and before you knew it, we both had complete makeup makeovers. It was so much fun!! Here is our after picture…
Not bad, right?! The next morning, we tried our best to recreate it…
…pretty good, right?!
I tend to change my makeup with the seasons. I wear a bit more foundation/eye shadow in the fall/winter and less of everything in the summer.
Here are all my faves right now…from makeup to air to face stuff and more!
So, this was the Holy Grail of what the sweet lady at the Bobbi Brown counter put on me. She kept telling me over and over again how I needed to get this right. First step, apply the GOLDEN GLOW ILLUMINATING MOISTURE BALM all over my face. (One pump of it is all I need.) After that, use the FOUNDATION STICK (I’ve used this product several times before and it’s always one of my favorites). You literally take off the cap and apply strokes of foundation all over your face and then buff it out with a brush (pictured below). My color is NATURAL. After that, I apply the HYDRATING EYE CREAM under my eyes. Next, I add the CORRECTOR (in BISQUE) under my eyes and buff it in with a brush (pictured below) before finally adding a bit of the INTENSIVE SKIN SERUM (in COOL SAND) in the corners of my eyes and a little down the side of my nose for brightness.
Now, I already had 5 out of the 7 of these products. You know my very favorite eye pencil is by ESTEE LAUDER (they changed the packaging recently), I will never use another mascara besides MAC’S HAUTE & NAUGHTY, my favorite lid color for eye shadow is SABLE, my other favorite eye shadow for a more neutral lid is NUDE BEACH and then of course, when I need some powder, I’ve used this BOBBI BROWN NUDE FINISHING POWDER (in nude) for years. What’s new is my BRONZER (in MEDIUM) and BLUSH (in TAWNY). I love the bronzer because it’s more matte (not shimmery like some), so it just gives a nice warm color without going overboard. The blush was one I never would have picked up, but I really think it’s lovely. I’m super pleased with both purchases!!
The lady insisted this was my new lip color. Hahahaha! Who am I to argue? I’m wearing it in the two pics at the top of the post.
First, she said line my lips with this pencil in rose, then add this balm for hydration followed by this matte lipstick (IN TRUE PINK) and then if I need to touch up with gloss, this one in pink beige.
I have had the first two brushes you see here for years. I wash them off every week with baby shampoo and let them air dry on a towel. The first one, I use for my powder and bronzer, the second one is the one I buff my foundation with and the third is the new eye brush for my hydrating eye cream, corrector and concealer.
This post is not sponsored by drybar…hahahaha! I just really, really, really love their products!! I switch hair stuff up a lot, but as you can see, the MAI TAI SPRITZER and MONEY MAKER hair spray are always in my “faves”. I’ve started spraying on the PREP RALLY right after I get out of the shower as an extra bump of hydration (hello, dry fall hair!) and then I spray the HOT TODDY on my hair before I use heat.
I switched to MATRIX TOTAL RESULTS MEGA SLEEK shampoo and conditioner back in June and can’t imagine using anything else. This stuff is pure gold!
Sometimes, if I blow dry my hair, I add these volumizing rollers to the top layer and then curl the bottom layer with my 1½ inch T3 Curling Wand. This is what it looks like…
You can learn why I love my T3 here…
Okay, I’ve told you about all three of these products before. My favorite SPF (I apply it after my lotion and before my HYDRATING BALM) is this SUPERGOOP one, I love TULA’S HYDRATING DAY AND NIGHT CREAM. It’s always my favorite but never more so then in the fall and winter when my skin is extra dry. Annnnnnd I just love this PETER THOMAS ROTH PUMPKIN MASK. Not only does it really work well, but it smells like pumpkin pie.
Annnnnnnd…I’m all natural now on the deodorant 🙂 . I’m still loving this one from PRIMAL PIT PASTE.
Last but not least…OPI nail polish in LINCOLN PARK AFTER DARK. It’s my go-to this time of year! (Pssssst: SWEATER/JEANS/BOOTIES/EARRINGS for those of you who care.)
Okay! That’s what I’m loving now! What about you? What’s your go-to for beauty right now????

I LOVE these posts!! I think it’s because you pretty much let us take a peek inside your bathroom cabinet and apparently I’d like to see everyone’s bathroom cabinets!

Hi Shay, thanks for sharing all of these great finds. One quick question about the lipstick. I checked the Nordstrom and BB website and I cannot find any color labeled Natural Pink. I did find True Pink, Boss Pink and Tawny Pink. Can you please confirm the lip color. I really like it for fall. Thanks much!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s True Pink. Did I type the wrong thing? You would think my 3 cups of coffee yesterday would have prevented errors like that. Fixing it now!
Beth Knecht says
Whew! What a review! I will need to go back and checkout some of your products! Do you find the Bobbi Brown foundation is almost sticky? My hair sometimes is stuck to my face from the foundation!! Ha.
Mix and Match Mama says
Not the foundation stick. Not one bit!
Dana Powell says
I just love these posts! Even though I hardly ever end up buying anything new, it’s just fun to see how others get ready. And each time I see that first picture from your makeover, I am taken aback by how much it looks like your mom! I don’t know what the difference is, but there is something around your eyes in that picture that looks exactly like her!!
Ariadna says
I was going to comment the exact same thing!! It’s just something about the eyes that make her look like her sweet mom!!
Elspeth Mizner says
Thanks for the makeup tips. I’m definitely going to look into it!
Narci says
I just love these posts so much!! I love taking a peek into your makeup and beauty routine!
Julie says
Can I ask how often you get your hair cut? It’s always so healthy! Do you think the layers help
with that? Thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
I get it cut every time I get highlights (about every 7 weeks). Thank you so much!!
Bekah Dill says
Thanks for sharing! Always on the hunt for new beauty products! I also have to agree with Dana above… I thought the picture of you in the department store looked so much like your mom too! (especially in the eyes) Happy thursday!

I definitely like to switch up my makeup game in the fall too. I happened to stop into Sephora yesterday for blush and came out with a mini makeover and a bag full of Marc Jacobs products. I’m a big fan of Bobbi Brown products, love their shimmer block the most. I hadn’t tried Marc Jacobs before but his foundation covered evenly and with the coconut prime beforehand I couldn’t resist buying both lol.

Hi, Shay. Awhile back you were obsessed with the Becca under eye brightening corrector so I decided to try it and have had great results. I am about ready to buy another and was wondering how the new corrector you’ve found compares. Thoughts?
Mix and Match Mama says
I had it in my bag when we went to NYC. I still love it. I haven’t worn it since that trip because I’m wearing this stuff, but I still do love it so much!
Andrea says
I’ve been wondering what lipstick you had on since you first posted pictures of your NYC trip. It looks so pretty on you, but kind of bright on the model.
Jenny says
Hi!! Thanks for this post! What cleanser do you use??? Bobbi Brown makeup is great and I love their Hydrating eye cream 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
Tula!!
Gardner Story says
Shay, Have you ever tried Goop Products? I received a “travel pack” from a family friend for Christmas last year and it is the best thing I have ever put on my face. It is CRAZY expensive, but my face has never felt smoother or looked brighter (in the dead of winter, too!) I loved the night cream, day moisturizer, and face oil.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!! I tried the travel pack too and loved it!!!

Could you ever do a video or a picture of where and how you put your hot rollers in? How many do you normally put in?
Julie says
Such a fun a post! I’m in Boston, and my skin was already getting dull and dry from colder weather. I just picked up Neutrogena’s Hydro Boost Hydrating Serum and it is MAGICAL. I use it morning and night under my day or night cream, and in like two days, my skin was smooth and glowing. It’s unbelievable! And it’s an affordable drug store product! I am in love.
Abby Lea says
Can you do a blog on those curlers? Not the wand. I can not do a wand on my hair, but would love to see a blog on the hot rollers.
Jenna says
I always love learning about and trying new products. Thanks for sharing!

Love these post of yours! We recently went from a four shower house to a two shower house and now a one shower in a very beautiful but 114 year old house . With 8 people it gets kind of crazy. We have a total of three girls all with very different hair. I didn’t want multiple bottles of shampoo sitting around the shower and falling over. We have tried almost every kind of shampoo and conditioner on the market. Even the sleek in the orange bottle-at your recommendation. How did you get over the smell??? My hair ended up really dry and split with it. So we tried Aquage. LOVING IT.

What tricks do you have to get the OPI nail polish to last? How long does it stay on for you? I use OPI, but find it hard for a manicure to last long.
Mix and Match Mama says
OPI base coat plus two coats of polish plus Essie Gel Setter top coat 🙂
Amy says
Thanks for sharing this! I love the application of both of your eyeliner- have you ever shared specifically how you use/apply the EL liner? Feels silly to ask but I can never get it quite right on the top or bottom- would love any tips you have!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m sure mine is wrong. Hahaha! I apply it and then smudge it a bit.
Whitney says
Shay can you recommend a good tinted moisturizer? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hmmmm…I do think Bobbi Brown makes a good one. I also like Bare Minerals.
Sarah Parsons says
I am always wondering, how often do you paint your nails? They are so rarely chipped and you pick great, dark colors? I use Essie Gel Setter on top of my polish to extend a few days, but as a busy lady and a mom they seem to chip so fast.
I may need to make a stop at Bobbi Brown to see about some of those products. They look great! Have a super day!
Mix and Match Mama says
I use that top coat too!! I polish them about every 6 days of so. They don’t always look great, you just can’t tell from the photos. I do OPI base coat, two coats of polish and the Essie Gel Setter on top.
Victoria says
What size Nickel and Suede earrings do you wear?
Mix and Match Mama says
Small!
Sandy Manning says
Some time ago you mentioned detoxing your armpits. Would you address how you did that? I’ve been trying to find the best non-aluminum deodorant too. It’s hard! I haven’t yet tried the one you mentioned here.
Mix and Match Mama says
So, I had to not wear anything under my arms for a week. Then, I used the charcoal deo from Primal Pit for about two weeks. After that, I was able to wear all of the Primal Pit products without breaking out.
Mrs B says
Somewhat off topic . . . Can you show how you store necklaces?
Mix and Match Mama says
I wish I had this amazing system. I don’t think I do???
Serena Welch says
Love this post – thanks for sharing!! I have to say my top two holy grail products are Clinique City Block – this stuff is great!! Not too thick, absorbs quickly and doesn’t irritate my sensitive skin. Also, Estee Lauder Advanced Night Serum – great product! This one reminds me of R&F Hydrating Serum but not as pricey.
Kelly Franks says
Okay, so now we need an updated hair styling video!! I’ve been eyeing those hot rollers. 🙂
Kelly Franks says
When do you use the mai tai spritzer? Have you ever used the Hotty Toddy on wet hair?
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t used it on wet hair and I use the Mai Tai after I comb through my damp hair and let it air dry 🙂 .
Samantha says
Beauty Counter also has great make up products (and skin care) that are safer options. Have you tried anything from them? Since you went all natural with deodorant, I thought you might like what they offer.

Jessica says
I agree, Samantha! Beautycounter is the BEST!!
Angela Ellingson says
Love these posts!! How often (and which ones) do you do a face mask? How often do you get a facial. Your skin is beautiful!
Mix and Match Mama says
I typically use one every other night. My favorites are the pumpkin enzyme from today’s post, Tula’s is amazing and I like the charcoal one from Beauty Counter too.
Susan Jeffries says
I love you r makeup posts! You ladies look like you have a natural glow, which is my favorite look!
Lori says
What colors does Erika have on her lips?
Mix and Match Mama says
I need to ask!
Meredith says
I love seeing others using Bobbi Brown. I have been wearing her make ho since high school. I venture out to try other things but ALWAYS go back to her stuff. Everything is just so good!
Ps go Sox! I’m sure it’s going to be a fun weekend in your house!
Sarah says
I tried switching to natural deoderant and just felt like I was SO sweaty all the time. I haven’t tried Primal Pit Paste – do you feel like it works to prevent sweat at all? Particularly during workouts?
Mix and Match Mama says
I do find that it works pretty well (even during workouts!).
Lindsay D. says
Have you used the waterproof Lancome eyeliner? If so, how does that compare to the Estee Lauder? Does the Estee Lauder smear under your eyes at all?? I don’t have much luck with eye liner. I have oily eyelids and they all seem to smear under my eyes. Thanks!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t. The Estee Lauder doesn’t smear at all. It stays put all day long.
Lindsay D. says
Thanks! 🙂
Jennifer says
Can I ask how long it takes you start to finish to apply all of these products?? I love the look and am also a mom so I don’t have a lot of time to dedicate to make up in the morning but I love how put together and simple this all looks
Mix and Match Mama says
At the very most 10 minutes (and that’s probably too long!). I don’t contour, use a highlighter, multiple eye shadows…it’s all really straight forward.
