Hey, hey, hey!
It’s the first LET’S LOOK of 2019!
On the second Wednesday of every month, Erika and I are going to host a link up where we “look” at little aspects of our lives. If you’re a blogger, make sure you blog and link up! Here are the prompts for the year…
Which means that today, we’re looking at the coziest spots in our homes!
I love the word cozy 🙂 .
Okay, if you come over to my house, I hope you leave and think it’s cozy. Cozy is my goal. I want there to be lots of little lamps, lots of blankets, stacks of books, candles flickering, a fire going (when it’s cold outside) and nice music playing throughout. Those things all make me feel cozy inside.
For me personally, I think my favorite cozy spot changes throughout the year. Right now, this is my favorite cozy spot…
…in the winter (while the kiddos are at school), I love to sit on my bed, look out my windows at my yard and work right here (most likely while I’m watching one of my very favorite movies). Growing up, we weren’t allowed to sit on our beds once we made them in the morning (you know it’s true, Mom!), so even though I’m 37 years old, it still feels like a little indulgence when I do it 🙂 . Fire, great movie, cozy bed, good view…this is my favorite winter cozy spot.
The minute it warms up and the flowers start to bloom, this becomes my very favorite cozy spot in my house…
…YESSSSSSSSSS! I lovvvvvvve to sit on my patio, pipe in my French music, drink coffee and work. Like friends, this makes me SO HAPPY!!! I can only do it about 6 to 8 weeks and then it becomes to warm, but when I can, I absolutely love it. Cozy outdoors is my springtime jam!
Another cozy spot for me? This…
…sitting at my kitchen counter and working while I look at…
…my fall decorations. Ahhhhhhh! Give me all the pumpkins!
One last cozy spot in my house comes at the end of the year…
…tree with twinkle lights, fire, Christmas movie and family. COZINESS overload!!!!
So, those are my cozy spots! Even if you didn’t blog and link up, tell me in the comment section what makes your house cozy and what your favorite cozy spot is! I did a post about 15 months ago that you can read HERE about how I make my home cozy.
Cozy.
I love that word so much!! xo

The twinkling lights gives your living room the very best cozy feel! And I’m here to say that yes, your house always leaves me feeling cozy. 🙂
Taylor says
I love your home! I also can’t wait for next months post about books!
Beth Knecht says
I love coziness, too!
So fun seeing everyone’s little cozy spots!
Brittany says
All of the spots in your home look SO cozy, but maybe it’s because I’m from the midwest and it’s winter… I would pick the patio as my number one favorite, I sure with it was warm enough to enjoy being outside!
Sheaffer Sims says
Rest assured, you have mastered coziness. #welldone
Narci says
I just love how cozy your home is! If you need me today, I might be on your couch working by the fire. Haha! 😉
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I love being able to sit on my bed and watch tv too! I always cover up with a blanket to make it extra cozy!!

Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
I love every spot of yours but definitely the patio one would be my favorite! I’m ready to sit outside again and soak in some warmth while I work or read! In my house it’s probably the family room. There’s just something about the couch with a blanket/book/tv that makes me happy!

Meagan Ruse says
Your house is coziness perfection! I think your library is one of my favorite places, though…And your house always smells good too 🙂 You’ve nailed cozy!
Kristi Foster says
Beautiful and so cozy! I love your fireplace screens. Can you tell me where they are from?
Liliane Dunham says
Cozy for me is a quiet place like my bedroom or living room when kids are in school? with a warm blanket and a great book with some soft music playing in the background. In the spring/summer, my deck oasis I call it with a cup of coffee with the birds chirping…awww yes. I love life!!
Your place looks very cozy for sure?
Carly says
All your posts make me feel cozy, your day in the life and house tours especially. I refer back to your post on hosting and coziness all the time. Thanks for sharing! Happy Wednesday!
Deb says
Your home is just gorgeous and looks so warm and inviting…and cozy. Could you share your wall color in your bedroom? Is it the same throughout your most of your home? Thank you for sharing your lovely home, and precious family with us Shay.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s not, it’s darker (more oatmeal). It’s Sherwin Williams, but let me see if I can locate the name. The rest of the house is Kilim Beige.
Natalie Alvarado says
Your home is just the coziest!! What is your trim and cabinet color? I love it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Good question! It’s a creamy white, but I don’t know the exact name.
Jamie says
So cozy!! Can you share where you’ve bought some of your big chairs? I see some big, cozy chairs (maybe even a recliner in your living room?) We are on the hunt for a couple new chairs and I’m always nervous to buy online without sitting in them… but it makes me feel better when people are happy with certain brands they’ve bought in the past!
Mix and Match Mama says
So many are from Restoration Hardware!!
Kris says
Four young kids and you can lie on your bed watching movies while they are at school? I’m curious, how much outsourcing do you do for childcare, errands, cleaning, etc? I’m a relatively new reader, but I never read about that aspect of your life.
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t lie on my bed, I work on my bed (instead of my desk). I also like to listen to my favorite movies in the background while I work (I pretty much listen to the same four over and over and over again). I can take my laptop and any files, docs and sit there instead of at my desk (where I sit all morning). My kiddos go to school (so no childcare). My youngest goes three days a week, so she’s home with me the other two. I have someone who cleans my house and as for errands, I do them myself and rely heavily on Amazon and stuff.
Jo Biddick says
I’m all about cozy! Which is why I love soft lights and music, beautiful textures and colours, delicious aromas, comfy clothes, hearty food, pots of tea, a glass of wine or two……
Not much beats when it’s pouring with rain outside and I’m tucked up in my little home with the lamps on, candles burning, a pot of tea, snuggled up under the blanket I crocheted myself with my cat curled up and purring at my feet as I’m reading a book or watching TV.
There’s a Danish word ‘hygge’ which encapsulates all things cozy, there are gorgeous pics on Pinterest.
Chrissy says
I’m with your mama, once the curtains are drawn back and my bed is made, it’s not touched again til nighttime. 🙂 Although my kids love hanging out on their beds after they’re made-I just don’t understand it hahaha. Our big couch in the family room is definitely the spot where everyone can cozy on up together! Love your little cozy spots!
Mix and Match Mama says
I still feel slightly naughty when I sit on my made bed 😉 .
Anna says
Do you happen to know the colors of your granite? Moving to a house with black counters throughout and I’d like something lighter added on the island. Thinking maybe something that mimics yours in the reverse might work. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yup! Black Pearl and Alaska White!
Anna says
Thank you!
Tanya says
Your home is so cozy. And you’re right, there’s a limited window of time here in TExas to enjoy sitting outside. 😉
Sara Y says
Hey Shay! Your house looks so cozy! Can you tell me if the chair that Smith is sitting in the last picture (family room), is that the PB Lansing chair? I have had my eye on that chair, but my husband thinks I need to sit in it before purchasing (why is he so practical…LOL). Is it comfy? Are you pleased with it?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from Restoration Hardware! It is very comfy and I’m super pleased! My mom liked mine so much that she even bought one too!
Jenna Lathrop says
What a cozy home and I love that you took us through the seasons. I love our outdoor seating as well and we use it all the time. I hope you have a wonderful day!
Faye says
Love your cozy spots! You mentioned French music you play when you’re on your patio. Would you mind sharing? Is it a playlist? I’m going to have to see if I can find something on Spotify – sounds dreamy!
Mix and Match Mama says
On Pandora, I love the French Cooking Music Radio. I’m listening to it right now!
April Bryan says
What makes my house cozy:
lamps, candles, blankets, rugs, everything put in their place (less stress)
My cozy spot:
either my bed with the fireplace going and wrapped in my pottery barn blanket
or my chair in the living room, it kind of spoons you and there is room for my children to come snuggle with me.
Liz says
I love all your cozy spots!! Since we just moved I am working hard to make cozy spots throughout my house. I’m gonna go back and read your blog. ❤️❤️
jamie says
i want to go home and cozy something right after all my day responsibilities are done! until then, i decided to play french children’s music on my phone for the MOPS preschoolers i’m with right now!
Kristin Tate says
I had to read today’s blog twice!! I couldn’t get “we weren’t allowed to sit on our beds once we made them” out of my head. I’m the same way with my kids, once the bed is made I’ll ninja kick you (in my mind) if you get on them! This may mean one day they’ll grow up to blog about how I would not allow them on the bed, lol!
Mix and Match Mama says
Bahahahahah! I just LOL, Kristin!
Melissa says
Hilarious!!
Beth Valenta says
COZY is my favorite word, next to JOY. My wish one day is that my husband will finally understand the power of the small lamp. I love my kitchen spot, with a great smelling candle, Cat Stevens music, a sign with twinkle lights (I now have a snowflake lit up), and YES my small lamps. I will indulge in a favorite red wine, and if I am blessed, Youv’e Got Mail or The Holiday will come on. Then I will Pinterest all of Cameron’s wardrobe. LOL
Mix and Match Mama says
I love Joy too!!!!
Elena says
You have a beautiful home! I love doing work on my bed even after I’ve made it. I have a beautiful view from my windows as well and love being able to enjoy the coziness while (hopefully ?) doing what I need to do. I also love curling up with a book and drinking a glass of wine in the winter. Love your little spots!!
~B~ says
While still working, I’m also currently a college student (again, at 48) and so I’m a little off from my normal spots. I’ve worked to make my office cozy as I can as I spend SO. MUCH. TIME. in here! I added a sweet little chair, pics of all my loved ones and have bookshelves loaded with books as books = cozy to me. I so look forward to spending time in other cozy spots after I graduate later this year though! Thanks for sharing!
Rachel says
Love it!! So cozy 🙂
Elizabeth says
Hilarious that you mention you weren’t allowed to sit on your bed after it was made when you were growing up! I wasn’t either!! I’m 29 now and if I sit on my bed after it’s made I still get that “I shouldn’t be doing this” feeling haha! Thank you to my OCD mother!
Mix and Match Mama says
ME TOO!!! Hahahahaha!
Patty Anderson says
Cozy for me is the double hammock on our deck with a view of the great Salt Lake and the city in the background…and my pup by my side! On the fourth of July we can see fireworks in the distance in about 7 locations at once!
Fenny says
You would love the Dutch word ‘gezellig’

Jenna Roth says
Love all the cozy! You’ve mentioned a few times that you constantly have music playing in your house– would you consider making Spotify playlists of your favorite tunes that us music lovers could follow? And on an unrelated note– have you done a post about your favorite apps? I am looking for some new ones to download!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhhh! That’s a fun idea, Jenna! And I believe I have done one on apps for kids, but not adult apps. Another good idea!
Missy Butler says
I literally just lol’ed at your “sitting on the bed after it was made” statement! My mom was the same way and it’s still a guilty pleasure for me to sit on it or even better… crawl back into it! ?
Cara says
Hi Shay- just a topic idea that I’m struggling with- monitoring kids’ electronic time- tv, I pads, Xbox etc. my 2 boys are 14 and 12 and they are all about fortnite and my daughter is 10 and enjoys kids YouTube . Right now we say no electronics during the week until after dinner. Do you have any ideas- cell phones are right around the corner.our generation of raising kids has one foot in the era of how we were raised without all of the electronics and one foot in our kids generation of technology.its hard to find a balance! I’ did get the timer from amazon that you recommend but hard to stick with!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t think I was the one who recommended a timer. Hmmmm…it sounds interesting though!! I keep telling myself that I’m going to put off cellphones as long as possible. Think 18 is too old? 😉
Tish Ferry says
LOVE this link up and love seeing all your cozy places. I didn’t mention music in my post, but definitely a must! And I started listening to the French cooking music on Pandora per your recommendation last year. 🙂 Simply Tish
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! I love that station!!
rachel paley says
Might be random, but what does the N stand for in the picture of your monthly meal plan? 🙂 Love all these cozy spots!
Mix and Match Mama says
It helps me keep track of “new” recipes I’m writing!! 🙂
Susie says
Ooooh, I would love to know more about this! Would you please share your process? How much time is spent from start to finish? How do you decide when a new recipe is ready to be published or if it needs tweaking? Where do you get your ideas? Sorry for all the questions; I’d really love to be able to pick your brain, haha!
Mix and Match Mama says
So, it varies a little by the season, but typically I make dinner 5 nights a week and three are new recipes and two are oldies (or vice versa). I keep a list on my phone and a list in notebooks in my office of recipes that I’ve written and I’ll make those. If they don’t work or need more tweaking, I’ll make them again (or decide that the recipe isn’t great and then just don’t ever publish it). Then, I keep a list in my office of recipes that I’ve made/tweaked/photographed and bring them here into blog world as needed.
Chelsea says
I love this post! I totally relate to feeling like sitting on my bed is an indulgence every now and then! My spot changes with the seasons too.. maybe you’re my cozy spirit animal ? I wish I had a blog just for this post and WUW. Right now, my fave cozy spot is my book nook. It’s similar to a window seat with velvet cushions, fluffy pillows, and a warm glowing lamp ?
Cathy says
We weren’t allowed to sit on our beds either once they were made. My sweet mom passed that down to me. At least my bed. My cozy spot is our family room with a warm throw in the winter and our backyard patio with a tall glass of ice tea in the summer.
Rachel says
I always love the posts and photos of your home because in addition to be so cozy it’s wonderfully uncluttered and neat. It’s hard to have both but you have definitely accomplished it all! Thanks for always sharing your wonderful taste and ideas with us.
Mother of 3 says
I almost put my kitchen table in my post as well; we sit there every single day to do our schoolwork and it’s where so many of our family memories come from. Your house looks very cozy and inviting.
Christine says
Hi Shay! What a great idea to communicate about this topic! My husband and I love to read too! I noticed one of your photos looks like a “library?” We are thinking about turning one of rooms into a library. I will definitely incorporate your ideas for coziness. I would like our library to have the same type of style as yours. Any suggestions on where to shop? Thank you so much!
Angela Ellingson says
Oh I love this! I have the same goal, but a long ways to go to making our newly forever home cozy. So far it’s definitely the most cozy by the fire! I always dreamed of having a fireplace. I really need to get more art on our mostly bare walls. I think that will go a long way in making our house a home!
Alexis deZayas says
My coziest spot is my living room! A big comfy couch with lots of cozy blankets, 2 lamps and a candle burning. My favorite place to read a good book!
Paula says
In our house we call our pjs our “cozy-cozies” ! It is a cozy word in itself !?
Kristy says
I love these cozy spaces! One way I’ve added a new dimension to cozy in my house is by diffusing essential oils. It brings a whole new level to our cozy spaces!
Judy says
Love all the cozy and agree that it changes ! I adore cozying up with my kiddos, alone with a good book, under a blanket and next to the pool – all bring out the cozy!
Kelly Buffington says
I love that you have different cozy spots depending on the season, me too!;) And, I rarely sit on my bed after it’s been made but my kid’s don’t seem to struggle with that issue:)
Kimberly C says
Posts like this always make me want to start a blog! But what would I post about rest of the year?! ?
I am seriously in love with your patio — I would spend most of my time there in the spring and summer too. Obviously I’ve never been to your house but from what you show it seems you have the “cozy” nailed. Your kitchen is another room that I really admire.
My favorite cozy spots are our living room loaded with tons of fluffy blankets and lamps and the kitchen especially when I’m cooking or entertaining. I certainly wouldn’t call these next 2 cozy but other favorite spots are on the mower as I take in the sights of all we grow and take care of outside and at my family heirloom sewing machine.
You always talk about the music you having playing in the house — do you have speakers wired up throughout the house and outside?
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re so sweet! Your whole comment made me smile, Kimberly!! Yes, we have speakers wired into the ceiling and then we use the app Sonos (they’re Sonos speakers) to play the music.
Debbie Dunbar says
My idea of cozy is my living room with pillows, throws, lamps, and of course my book or books! And of course, I am at my most cozy when wearing pjs! Cozy is my favorite!
