It’s Tuesday Talk!
Once a month, I link up with Ashley and Erika and share a little randomness…today, I’m going to gush about a vacuum. #youknowyoureamomwhenyougushaboutvacuumattachments 😉
Here’s the deal, about 10 years ago, we bought a hand-held Dyson vacuum, and it instantly became our very favorite thing. We are obsessive neat freaks over here, so a tiny little vacuum that sucks around chairs, highchairs, the car, easily gets up spilled Cheerios, dog food, flour, dirt, grass…anything and everything, is a favorite of ours. It is without a doubt the number one gadget used on a daily basis in our house. We loved it so much that we bought a second one so that Andrew could take our original one to his office. We love it.
Now, fast forward several years and all of my friends plus a gazillion influencers were raving about the new version that includes a longer attachment, and I was like “Yeah, but really, how could you improve on it? I don’t need that version or that attachment.”…and then for Christmas, my mom bought me one.
And now, I feel foolish I didn’t buy it for myself a long time ago.
I love this more than my actual “normal” vacuum.
Friends, I’m obsessed…
…the attachment is life-changing.
Yes, that’s right.
It has changed my life 😉 .
You can still use the shorter attachments, but this longer one here, makes me giddy. I am legit giddy as I vacuum.
Typically, I had two options: 1. Lug out the big vacuum, plug it in and fight the cord to clean up a mess or 2. Bend over and use the hand-held with the small attachment. Ninety nine percent of the time, I pulled out the handheld and bent over, but now, I have this amazing new longer attachment, and I feel like one of Snow White’s dwarfs…I legit whistle while I work. Bahahaha!
This is the normal attachment I used for years and years. I still love it for hard to reach areas and higher spots (like counters, the seat of chairs, couch cushions, etc), but the new longer attachment has just rocked my world.
So, there you have it. I wish someone would have grabbed me by the shoulders and made me buy the longer attachment a long time ago, because it’s glorious. Thank you to my mom for realizing I needed it 😉 .
That’s it for Tuesday Talk! Everyone go vacuum now! xo

Shay!!! I’m in shock you’ve been using the little dust buster edition for so long! I bet that is life changing for you!
Maria says
My favorite vacuum ever. It is truly a piece of joy in my life. This vacuum and a steamer mop is pure happiness in my life.
Mix and Match Mama says
You are a girl after my own heart! Hahahaha!
Britt says
Which steamer mop do you recommend?
kim l shannon says
YES I’m interested in steamer mop for my hardwood floors please!!1
Kelly Franks says
Yes, which steamer mop? I have the floors that are a laminate hybrid. Would it work on there?
Cindy Shook says
I have the waterproof vinyl plank floors that look like wood and my particular brand said not to use steam on them. Check with your actual flooring brand and type! I use the O Cedar spin mop with hot water and a tsp of powdered tide laundry detergent (yes, GoCleanCo on Instagram told me to and it works amazingly!) and my floors are spotless!!
Kate says
Ohhh the Dyson. Life changing. Anytime anyone asks “is it worth it?”….YES! 🙂
Elspeth says
I’m definitely keeping this in mind for when I’m out and on my own!! Thanks for sharing!

Haley says
I became a Rodan + Fields consultant about the same time I got my first stick Dyson, and I kept telling Ryan, I think I should become a Dyson rep TOO!!! I get a lot of satisfaction (and disgust) when I empty that thing regularly?
Heather Stanton says
I’m not embarrassed to say that when packing for soccer practice for my son….I take the same Dyson and vacuum my car while waiting and watching! (This is a must have for car cleaning….and getting in all the little crusty spots, using a little at a time..not the whole jar)

Britt says
What’s your best way to clean hard floors after vacuuming? What product do you use for “mopping”???
Mix and Match Mama says
I love the Swiffer wet jet!
Jamie says
On your wood floors?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!
Cindy Shook says
I use the O Cedar spin mop with hot water and a tsp of powdered tide laundry detergent (yes, GoCleanCo on Instagram told me to and it works amazingly!) and my floors are spotless!!
Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog says
I hate vacuuming so much since my vacuum is so big and inconvenient! You’ve got me wanting a new one now haha!

Shelly says
Where do you keep it plugged in / up to charge? I know that’s random. But your laundry room is a little further from your kitchen (like mine) just wondering where you store it? Thanks
Mix and Match Mama says
In my laundry room!
Amy Owens says
Yes! We’re on our second one and I’ve always told my husband…I don’t care how much money it is or if it’s not on sale, if something happens to the one we have we are to immediately (that day) go buy a new one. I couldn’t live without it. It seriously brings me peace. ?
Kara says
I’m laughing out loud.. bc I bought myself a battery powered sweeper ? a week ago and can’t believe how life changing it really is!! ?? I walk around cleaning up dog hair 24-7.. ? but I’m happy to do it now!! My husband judged me bc I added a 4th sweeper to our lives BUT loves it as much as I do!!! ?
Do you have the charger mounted on a wall?!
JUdy Pfretzschner says
Glad I’m up early today. Just ordered it with sale price on Amazon. Thanks, Shay, for tip!
Michelle Woods says
Saw my SIL use hers at Thanksgiving dinner and bought one the next day on a Black Friday sale. Yes, yes it is life changing!!!!
Taylor R says
This is seriously one of the best inventions in the whole world. We love our cordless Dyson vacuum!! So, so great for around the kitchen, quick vacuum sessions, and ESPECIALLY vacuuming out our high chair. Praise the Lord for this little tool. 🙂
Nicole T. says
My husband surprised me and brought this vacuum home for me, and I was more excited then if he had walked in the door with a beautiful bouquet of flowers!!! We use this every single day, multiple times a day!! It’s so easy and a total game changer!!
Sharon says
We also have had the short handheld for years and LOVE IT. Last year we got a cordless stick V7 and LOVE IT. We rarely lug out our central vac anymore. The Dyson is just too handy. We initially got it to leave upstairs so we had a vacumn on each floor, but more and more we are bringing it to use downstairs as well.
YOu know the one thing I really really love…..the bathroom floor. We recently renovated our main bathroom and the new tile shows up hair…ugggg….I basically grab that Dyson almost everyday to do a quick go over…takes me all of 5 seconds.
Angie R says
I registered for this Dyson for our wedding and it’s one of the best gifts we received! I use it constantly, though have never used the little attachments, ha! The other thing I just got is a Bissel Spinwave Hard Floor Mop and it is lifechanging on your tile floors! You can also use on sealed wood floors. I was going to put it on my Christmas list, but husband told me he was not buying me a vacuum for our first married Christmas. Ha! So, I used wedding gift cards to buy it. 🙂 Happy floor cleaning!
Sherry Kenney says
We have one similar to this and yes, it’s great! We have two new puppies and just got the Bissell Crosswave….it vacuums and mops AT THE SAME TIME!!
Samantha says
I also love this vacuum! I agree, so much easier to clean non-carpet floors & stairs than a corded vacuum. Call me crazy, but one of my favorite projects we have done in our house is add a special shoulder-high outlet to a closet for this very vacuum!
Katie says
Um, how in the world is your vacuum’s dirt compartment thing so clean?!? You guys must really be neat freaks. Haha. I also use mine every day and I think the only time it was that clean was when it was brand new.
Katie says
Reminds me of the Friends episode when Monica vacuums her vacuum. Haha!
Sandi says
I love our Dyson I’ve used it so much that I finally had to replace the battery, and you can buy a battery pack on Amazon. We store ours in our front closet, there just happen to be a plug in there so it’s out-of-the-way and quick to grab. It’s my absolute favorite appliance, and I do use it an awful lot with dogs and cats. The attachments are amazing. Shay your speaking my love language “vacuuming easy”!
Ashley says
I asked for the Dyson V11 for Christmas after trying one of my friends’ and it is LIFE CHANGING! I want to vacuum every day now. The long attachment comes standard with it, so I was confused about why that was “new” for you, but then the pic with just the little attachment made so much more sense!!
Darcy Berte says
I bought one a year ago and agree it’s the best gadget ever. I will admit I was confused when you said your new one had a longer attachment. I never knew it was just a handheld one previously. I can understand your excitement then.
Alison says
Hahaha! You crack me up! I do love my cordless vacuum as well. It’s such a life saver and I will vouch that everybody needs one! 🙂
Nikki Sommer says
Is it a Dyson or a Shark. The link is for the Shark one.
Cindi says
I’ve been wanting to buy this for my daughter-a first time mom of twin boys! Thanks for the recommendation! But question: your links take me to the Dibea brand. But yours is the Dyson, correct? ❤️
Mix and Match Mama says
oh what? urg. let me fix that. super hate how that happens!!
Mary Jane McNeill says
I have two German “Shedders” (Shepherds) and I have the Dyson Animal that already comes with the long attachment, and let me tell you, I use that thing EVERY DAY. I legit can make a third dog with all the hair I vacuum up!
Christy says
I love mine too! Question: How do you deep clean it? Mine is terribly dirty.
Jennifer says
What in the world?! I didn’t even know Dyson made attachments other than what comes with the vacuum. You have opened my eyes!
Laci Murray says
My stick vac is my one item I can not live without!
Brenda says
Quick question – do you have to hold onto/push in the button for it to run, or do you push the button and it stays on? Am I making any sense? 🙂 🙂 Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have to hold the button!
Amber says
Ok, I only have the traditional plug in vacuum so this is really making me want to get a stick! Is it light enough that your kids can use it? I have a 5. 7, and 9 year old that I would love to get more involved with chores as well. I’m curious about the weight and if it is tricky to maneuver while also holding the trigger to vacuum? Thanks for any help!
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!! In fact, right now, they think it’s “fun” to use it. I’m sure that will wear off, but all three bigs can use it. Mades isn’t quite tall enough yet.
Chrys says
This is so funny because the exact thing happened to me. I was perfectly content with my Dyson handheld, then I snagged one this past Black Friday with the long attachment and LIFE CHANGING. So we keep one on each floor now. It’s the little things…
Jill K. says
I got the Dyson V11 animal cordless for Christmas and it has changed my life!!! I never knew how big on an inconvenience it was to have a cord on the vacuum!
Rachel Shafer says
Yes! I love this vacuum! I legit use it everyday!
Beth Blacklock says
I got one for Christmas too and it is my favorite thing! I just said to my husband you know you’re getting old when you tell everyone you see about your new vacuum ?
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!!!!! Or when you dedicate an entire blog post to it… 😉
Alexa says
My mom gave this to me for Christmas two years ago, and I think it’s the best gift I’ve ever received! Our house has zero storage space so it literally hangs on the wall in our kitchen, haha, super classy, but it gets used so much I don’t even care! I do have an issue with the smaller attachment which is so sad because I would use that one way more. The battery doesn’t work with the smaller attachment. Anyone else have that problem? Dyson told us to clean the filters, so I did, but still no luck. However the long handled attachment works great!
WhittyWife says
Girl, I laughed when I opened today’s blog. We literally just got a similar Dyson (V11 Outsize) about two weeks ago after hearing rave reviews from our friends. But the best part?! The husbands seem to love it! Haha! My hubby gets excited to vacuum at night, and my friends have similar stories. With that enthusiasm added to an already amazing vacuum, it’s worth its weight in gold! Hopefully Andrew loves to use it as much as my hubby. ?
Lori says
I love your red distressed rug! Where is it from and is it thick and soft or thin? We’re having a hard time finding the vintage look that is thick. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh! It’s pink and it’s from Pottery Barn!
Jessie says
Hi Shay! Do you mind sharing what “big vacuum” you have and if you recommend it? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have a Dyson Animal. It’s probably 5 or 6 years old but still works great!
Pamela says
How long do you find it stays charged?
Mix and Match Mama says
I think I can hold the button down constantly for about 30 minutes.
Heather says
How long can you use the vacuum before it needs to be charged again?
Mix and Match Mama says
Hmmmm…I would say that I can hold the button down constantly for about 30 minutes before it needs to be charged again.
Megan Beaver says
I’m torn, do I need the V8 or V11? Thanks for any suggestions!
Stephanie S says
We pulled the trigger and bought this a Costco as our Chistmas gift to ourselves and so far I’m totally in love. If there’s anything I can complain about is that you have to keep your finger on the button the entire time or else it turns off. I gotta say my thumb gets a workout every time. But otherwise it’s great!
Lizzie says
I have a Dyson Animal that I love! We have two goldens and a kitty. I could vacuum every minute of the day. Do you use this vac for your rugs, too, or do you have to use your big vacuum for that?
Danette says
Thank you! Thank you! THANK YOU for sharing!!!! ? I was very curious to know which vacuum cleaner you use! We just got a Border Collie dog.. so this will definitely be very handy… being a neat freak myself!! ? I really enjoy reading your blog everyday and all the tips and tricks you share about everyday life! Thank you for sharing all the little details and being a light and happy place to go! You inspire me in so many ways! ? Hope you’re having a great day!!
ARi says
Hi Shay! I love my Dyson too. Quick tip – the long attachment you are using has beater bars in it which will scratch your hardwood! Dyson also make a soft roller head which almost polishes your floors as you clean! Thank me later ?
Jacqui says
Yes! Good tip for everyone.
I learned this lesson the hard way. I now have two of these vacuums, one for carpets and durable tile and one for my hardwoods.
Robin Pruitt says
We have two dogs and I agree – that vacuum makes it so easy to just grab it and clean up in just a second! So convenient!
Bana L says
I’ve been waiting and waiting for a post from you on Dyson! I am so close to purchasing one. Would you ever do an entire post on your cleaning routine? I’d love to see the cleaning products and the gadgets you use.
Martha Howard says
The links are confusing me on this post and I’m ready to buy! You posted the same link for your old Dyson and the new one. Which is the correct link for the new one? I want to buy the correct one.
Mix and Match Mama says
I just checked and it appears to be correct now. I am loving my Dyson V8 Animal Cordless.
Sarah says
Just ordered from zulily today!
Janet says
I’ve had a Dyson stick for a couple of years. Love it. I also have a Dyson canister that I had prior to the stick. Can’t tell you the last time I pulled that thing out of the closet.
Kristal Strong says
My husband and friends laugh at me and find it so strange when I say vacuuming is relaxing for me. ?But really, a vacuum I love and clean floors makes this momma happy!
Lisa says
I also absolutely love my Dyson! When we moved and put hardwood floors through our new house this vacuum works like a dream! I also use the o cedar spin mop as well for cleaning my floors. I also love my swiffer with the heavy duty dry pet cloths. They shine up my floors when I use them!
Kristie says
Hi Shay- I’m curious if you use it on your carpeted rooms or if you use a traditional vacuum for carpeted rooms? Tk u!
Mix and Match Mama says
Both! When we’re really “cleaning” the house (weekly, getting ready for company, etc), we pull out the big vac, but spills and daily stuff, we use this one.
