Happy Monday, friends!
I’m kicking off this week by sharing pics of our little laundry room update!
If you’ll recall, when we built our house 7 years ago, we built my office into the laundry room because it was convenient, out of the way, a good use of space, and I could shut the door and make it a little private if I needed it to be. Plus, at the time, I had a 4 and 5 year old, so being near to the laundry all day pretty much summed up my world. Fast forward to today and well, my business is much larger than I ever anticipated, so I needed a bit more space…
…you can read all of the details about my new office HERE.
So, our original plan was just to move my work stuff out of the laundry room, clean it up a bit and then Andrew would use the space when he needed to work from home. Well, we did that…and after about three months, it just felt a bit sad to me. Without all of my work stuff, it just lost its pop and felt like a neglected space, so we decided to give it a facelift. (I mean…at this point, we’ve redone our entire house, so why not go ahead and do the laundry room too?! Sigh. Sigh. Sigh.)
If you forgot what the laundry room looked like before, here are a few pics…
…awwww! I loved that space so much!
So, that was before, here is now…
…freshened up a bit 🙂 .
We left the floors, but we put in new counters, painted the cabinets, replaced the hardware, changed out the sink and of course, replaced the wallpaper too.
I absolutely love it!!!
We even organized and cleaned out the closet in there too!
This is where we’ve always marked their heights 🙂 .
It’s light, it’s bright, it’s fresh and it makes me happy when I’m in there doing 14 loads of laundry a day.
Now, do not worry about Andrew Shull working from here. I’ve had a few people reach out and ask me if we were going to put up Yankees wallpaper and make it a “mancave” since I had it all girly for so many years. The answer is…NO! Ha! Andrew has 1700 square feet of office space where he works all day long at his legit office and trust me when I say, it looks like a proficient hunter that loves the Yankees and Kansas State University works there. It is an insane office filled to the the brim of “Andrew-ness”, so don’t you worry about him. He has a huge man space that is 100% all his own. I suggested he paint the walls there the other day and he was like “no, leave my space alone”. Ha! Noted, Andrew. Noted. So, yes, he can work from here on days when he needs to come home early, check on a client after hours, but he has an intense man space of his own.
One other thing…I’m sure I’m about to get comments that ask “what is with all of your cookbooks?”. Oh gosh. Let me explain…
…well, putting them there was Andrew’s idea. Here’s the deal, after you author a book, the publisher offers the author books to purchase at an insanely inexpensive price. So, every single time my publisher has offered, I’ve looked at the price and been like “sure, I’ll take a thousand”. I’ve authored six. You do the math. They arrive in boxes that over the years, I’ve just stacked in the garage and then anytime I speak somewhere, I grab a bunch to pass out (for free, I never sell them!) or if a friend/family asks, or if I need to donate some for a charity auction (always with a slow cooker!), I have them. Is 6000 too many? Yes. But I paid like $4 for all of them (kidding…sort of)…so it seemed very reasonable at the time. Fast-forward to now and Andrew wanted to get some out of the garage…so he put them in the shelves. That is the long answer to why the shelves are filled with my books. But seriously, they were so cheap for me to buy and really, I’ll never author another book again, so I sure should hoard the ones I have written. #eeeeeeks #itsalotofbooks

Love your update and all of your updates!!
I’m sure you have a system that works great for you but I found a picture on Pinterest that I had my husband build…a rack that holds seven large laundry baskets, they slide in and out. I have one for cleaning rags, white linens, colors, jeans, lights, and handwashed items. Just dump a basket when it gets full to wash and use same basket for folding and replace. One basket is one load. About the same size as the baskets on your countertop.
Erika Slaughter says
It looks AMAZING in there! If I was Andrew, I’d never go to work!
Danielle says
Wait, why aren’t you going to write anymore cookbooks??
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwww, well, that chapter of my life is over. I really, really love spending my time blogging and working on travel now.
Karin Cogbill says
Sounds like maybe the next book should be a travel one!

I love the refresh and adding the white countertops really helps brighten things up! Also, I love your cookbooks and have them all 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
You’re the sweetest, Sarah!!!
Dana P says
It’s beautiful!!! If I wasn’t convinced that we have the same taste, I sure am now. I absolutely love how you have redone all these rooms!
Lauren says
Love the wallpaper!! And happy you answered about the books, because I was definitely wondering ?
Sheaffer Sims says
It looks awesome! I love the countertops and wallpaper!!!!
Melissa Terry says
Love the sink!!!! I was surprised to read you never want to author another book. Would that include any book or just another cookbook? I love your cookbooks and they are used frequently in our home.
It’s been a dream of mine for so long to write a children’s book about adoption. The idea has been swirling around in my heart forever and since we’ve had our daughter home it’s taken more and more shape. I can’t wait to see what the Lord does with that dream in the years to come (but I’ll keep in mind not to order 1000 at a time-ha).
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhhh! You’re so sweet! I loved the process and found the opportunity absolutely amazing…but several years ago, the Lord really put on my heart that I needed to focus on less to free up more time for my family (and time for me!). After lots of praying, I decided blogging and my travel agency were where my heart really were. Even though several books were published later, I turned my last manuscript in on September 1, 2016 (the week before we left to get Madeley!), so it’s actually been a long, long time since I’ve worked on one.
Susan says
Ok….so now we all want a tour of Andrew’s hunting/KSU/Yankee office
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s very overwhelming. There is nothing clean/bright/white/relaxing about it. 😉 I will have to do a post one day…it’s as intense as he is. Bahahaha!
Jennibell says
We always love “Andrew Shull” posts 😉 Ask him for us please!
Kathy says
Looks clean, bright, and a great place to hang out–even when you have to do laundry! 🙂
Vicky says
I absolutely love this room. We are currently doing up a house and pulling together ideas for a similar space, so nothing could make me more excited than that your wallpaper is made right here in England! Thank you for the inspiration! (I am a long-time reader, btw, not just on here to pinch your laundry ideas! ?)
Mix and Match Mama says
Awwww! Thank YOU, Vicky!!!!
Monica says
How do we purchase your cook books?
Mix and Match Mama says
I believe they’re still available on Amazon!
jordan says
lovely! I’m curious, why will you never author another book again
Mix and Match Mama says
There just aren’t enough hours in the day…and I really enjoy working on my travel agency and blogging right now. It seems to be my sweet spot.
Elizabeth Whisler says
It looks great! Now I need to update my laundry room! I’m loving the updates! I never really thought going from cream to white would make such an impact. Did the workout room get finished or do you still have contractors as roommates??
Mix and Match Mama says
Bahahaha! Our contractors have officially moved out. That made me lol! The new gym is coming up soon in another post!!
Kate S says
Hi Shay, you have so many lamps in your home, do you set them up on timers?
Mix and Match Mama says
Some we leave on all the time and the others, we all turn on in the morning.
Marie Claas says
I loved the way the room looked before, and I love the new look! You have such great taste! I have a question. I have a husband and four kids, and there is a lot of laundry. In my case, the laundry room is small, and they are always bringing their laundry down to be done. Laundry baskets pile up, laundry spills out into my kitchen. It’s a pain. Do you have a rule/method about how laundry is processed through your laundry room, so it is always free and clear of dirty laundry? I am so curious how you keep it beautiful!
Mix and Match Mama says
Agh! Laundry just never ends!!! I’m not sure my method is amazing and/or always works, but I ask them to bring it down on a rotating schedule (so not all at once), and then we wash, dry, fold and put away in one day. I DO NOT like to see a backup of laundry. I’d rather the laundry stay dirty and piled in their closets than backed up in the laundry room. We also just added a second laundry area upstairs, and so far, my big kids have done a great job of doing their own laundry.
Marie Claas says
Thank you so much for the great idea!! Doing one person’s laundry per day, while the rest stays upstairs, is a great idea! Thank you!
Paige M Wright says
I love it!! So airy. I have a quick question, I noticed in your office and your new laundry room…where do you hide your computer? or are the monitors connected to your laptops?
Mix and Match Mama says
The monitor connects to Andrew’s macbook!
Jill Atkins says
It’s beautiful! You have such an eye for design! Do you hire out or is it you? Your whole house you just did is amazing!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh well thank you! This project was all Andrew and me (as most are!). My mom was an interior designer for 30 years and is always an invaluable source and help too though!
Megan says
Thank you for explaining the books. Every time I saw another picture of them, I was thinking are those fancy encyclopedias or something?
Peggy K. says
I miss the previous wallpaper, but the new is gorgeous too! I love the door with all the measurements. What a treasure!
Cathy Carter says
I would LOVE to have a copy of all of your books!!! Is that possible?!?!?!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re still for sale on Amazon!!
Cathy Carter says
Thank you!!!!
Amy says
This wallpaper makes me want to add wallpaper to my house! It also makes me happy so I can only imagine how it makes you feel. When we built 13 years ago I thought Paint is just so much easier to change (I like to change often) than wallpaper!! looks great! Have a blessed day.
Wannie Johnson says
Love the update! Can you also share your tile floor info for that room?
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s original to the house, so I don’t have the details anymore. We put that in when we first built.
DonnaS says
I would actually like to do laundry there! ? Great job!
Leslie says
I love the laundry room- it really brightens it up and makes it look clean. Perfect for what the fresh in clean laundry means. Moments captured on the walls are precious.
Lois Hilty says
Will you kindly share the details on the rug in your new laundry room? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I have it linked at the bottom of the post. It’s really soft!
Patty Anderson says
Love the laundry room! But I hope you have better luck with your Whirlpool Cabrio washer than I did. The ball bearings went out in mine about 6 years in and it would have been cheaper to replace it than try to fix it (with no guarantee it would work.) Beautiful reno, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve had both seven years without any problems! So far, so good!
Mary says
Just replaced my 3 year old whirlpool with a speed queen. I’ll never look back!
Kay says
Shay, I love the update! Looks so clean and crisp! Question – I realize it’s an older purchase, but in the picture of your “old” pink office you have a white corkboard antique style frame. Looking for something similiar and can’t find anything online with a cute frame like that. Remember where you got it? Thanks – have a great Monday!
Mix and Match Mama says
I actually do know where I bought that! That was a Pottery Barn Teen find!
Alison says
Did you consider double washers/dryers at all? looks good!
Mix and Match Mama says
When we added on upstairs, we added another laundry area…that post coming soon!
Heidi says
Yessssssssssssssss on the 2nd laundry station! We put a stackable washer & dryer in our master closet when we remodeled, and it literally saved our marriage! :0 Haha just kidding… (not really) 🙂
Amy T says
Holy wide monitor! 🙂 That would be amazing for looking at giant spreadsheets.
Alison T. says
That wallpaper!! I just love it. What a fresh face-lift. I need my laundry room to be as happy as yours. ?
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
That wallpaper is so cool!!! I love the colors so much!! Great update and that sink is dreamy! ?

Robin says
Wait! I spy an F on the kids measurement door, who is that for? Love the wallpaper in the laundry room and the new sink!
Mix and Match Mama says
An F? Wait…going to look! I just texted Andrew a picture and asked him. He said it’s Frenchie. Bahahaha! He said Kensington added it for our smallest dog.
Trish says
Looks so fun! I love the tile-inspired wallpaper.. reminds me of my honeymoon in Portugal. 🙂 If you’re looking to do a giveaway for any of your cookbooks, this first time mom who struggles with meal planning would be the first to sign up! 😉
Megan jeffries says
I think the cookbooks look cool all grouped together!
Michelle O says
OK…I’ve read through all the comments hoping not to repeat this question. Where did you get the wallpaper for the laundry room? It looks wonderful! I love all the detail and colors.
Mix and Match Mama says
At the very bottom of the post, I have the source!! I’m so happy you like it too!!
Theresa Guetlich says
You should give some away on your blog, or even sell some! I would be interested in them,
Jennifer says
I love every one of your rooms! They are all so beautiful! I have a random question for you.. Have you ever done a post on how you organize your photos? Kids pictures etc. I have so many on my computer, and I need to do something with them! Would love any ideas!
Thanks!
Jennifer
Mix and Match Mama says
Years ago I did that post, and I still organize them the exact same way today!! https://mixandmatchmama.com/2014/01/fifty-two-shades-of-shay-organizing/
Julie says
Love the redo! Does your dryer a front load and if so are the hinges on the right or left? We have a similar area for the washer and dryer and want to put a folding table next to the dryer but I’m not sure what to do with the door.
Mix and Match Mama says
our hinges are on the right so it opens away from the washing machine
Marcy Cox says
Not a Yankee fan but would love to see pics of the hunter/2nd best team man space ..thanks for sharing
Kacy M says
Madeley’s drawing “to: bad” ??
Erin says
Love all of it!!! Obviously so many things
thought through! Curious question: where do you put your hanging clothes? Ones that have to hang/lay out to air dry, and when you’re putting clothes on hangers from the dryer??
Mix and Match Mama says
oh gosh, I basically lay them around the laundry room. I have a rack that I love and pull out (from Amazon) when I have multiple items to hang dry.
Karah Stracener says
I love the laundry room makeover. I love the wallpaper. You have great taste!! Thanks for sharing.
Esther says
Love the redo! I will apologize because I am a Yankees fan ? Wondering where you got that awesome sign? I am from the NJ/NYC area and love that!
Mix and Match Mama says
I think it was Amazon 😉
Jennibell says
Once you’ve taken started with the remodeling thing it’s hard to stop, huh? You see how “dared” everything also looks!!
Kelly says
What a gorgeous laundry room! If you have to do a million loads of laundry, might as well have something pretty to look at:) LOVE the wallpaper! At first glance, I thought it was tile. Just beautiful!!
