Guys! Today is a super fun day because…Andrew is taking over here in blog world!!
A few weeks ago, I had a sweet reader ask if we could share a “day in the life of Andrew”. I asked him if he was up to the challenge, and he said, “Sure!”. He took all the pics, he uploaded them here on my blog, he wrote the captions…he did it all. I’m going to step out of the way right now and let him take over. Friends, I give you a day in the life of Andrew Shull…
Good morning everyone. First, let’s get some stuff out of the way. I am not a writer. I actually have a little anxiety with every key stroke. AHHHH. Second, because I am a man, this whole taking pictures thing was really difficult. I can go on a whole guys snowboarding trip and between 15 guys we MAYBE have 3 photos documenting the occasion! The thought of having to document this day gave me a whole new appreciation to what Mix and Match Mama does. 🙂
Wake-up call 4 am. Even if I stay up late (11 PM), I have to pay the band in the morning. So, if I stay up late watching sports on the patio with Tab, it’s the price I pay.
Coffee stat!! My coffee is 2 espresso shots with 10 oz of hot water and 3 Truvia.
At the same time my Americano is brewing, I start my oatmeal. I have to have something to burn while I workout. ½ cup of Bob’s Red Mill oatmeal and a cup and a half of water. 2 min on high. After it cooks, I leave it in there until 4:40 before I pull it out. I don’t like my oatmeal runny.
I get my coffee and start my quiet time. Last year a group of guys and I read through the Bible in a year. This year, we decided to branch out and turn the 5 into 5 more groups of 5. Simple multiplication. Our group decided to stay together so we started a using a prayer app. Echo Prayer app is the best. You can add prayer requests, see answered prayer requests, update prayer requests….and more. Highly recommend. I am a big believer that when you say the words “I will be praying for you”, it is not just something you say to be nice. If you invoke the P word you better follow through and do some praying.
Our group and our walk through the Bible. Love it!! In the “talk it over section”, Sam our Pastor (aka touchdown), challenged us to have a “say” (what jumped out at me today and what is it saying to me), “obey” (how can I apply), and “tell” (name someone to share the thought with). If someone misses you can all see who it was. It really holds you accountable.
Oatmeal back out of the microwave. Insert scoop of protein and tablespoon of almond butter.
Poppy waiting to be let out before I leave for the gym.
Staples in my gym bag. 2 scoops of protein (unmixed) post lift snack, 1 smart water, Gatorade towel, ab roller, weight belt, wrist straps.
On my way to the gym, The Ticket goes on…
At 5:30, while I am working out the Heavens open up and the Ticket begins a new day. They talk about more than just sports, so it is a must listen. Shay even listens now!! George, Craig, and Gordon, you complete me. For those in the Dallas area 6:15, 6:40, 7:15, and 9:15 are the greatest segments of all. I have literally laughed so hard I have fallen off the stair mill in the gym. 🙂
In my lifetime, I think I have only taken one workout photo (and felt awkward doing it). I don’t want to be that guy, so you only get a post workout photo. We did chest and back on this day, with some abs. Total workout time, 50 min. This is (another) Andrew. Normally, I work out with my buddy Ty (shown below), but he was out of town on vacation. Ty and I met in the gym over 7 years ago and have been friends ever since! He played football at Auburn. This photo was from a couple of years ago when I went to see a game with him (he had his tough guy face on while I was cheesing it up, HA)
Had to swing by the grocery store on the way home to stock up for a baseball weekend. Protein cookies and Gatorade.
From the grocery store to my office. I like to get things up and running before everyone else gets there. It also allows me to get caught up on email and do some admin tasks.
Then home to kiss these kiddos as they are eating their breakfast. I am usually a little sweaty so I always ask, who wants a sweaty hug? After I say hi and “encourage” the kids to eat their breakfast, I head to the starimill for my cardio. I love doing the Peloton, but it interrupts my ticket time, so that is a big no-no. I usually hit the Peloton, once or twice a week and then on the weekends.
Look what I saw… a hawk sitting on the fence looking for breakfast. Run Frenchie!!
With a few minutes left this sweet girl asked me to hit the volleyball with her. How could I say no!? I quickly jumped off and we started. A,B, C, D. We like to at least finish the alphabet with the ball never touching the ground!
Then all of the kids pile on and it is off to school! On beautiful mornings, I like to take the golf cart. The fresh air never gets old.
I always give the girls a kiss on their heads and then I grab Smiths backpack and hold him down for his. 🙂
My morning call with my friend John on my way home. John and I became best friends many years ago when he was the Executive Pastor at First McKinney. He now lives in Indiana, but we talk every day. Interesting fact about John, before he was a Pastor, he taught hand to hand combat in the Marines. Needless to say, when we have gone on mission trips together (once we were on the Turkish/Iranian border) I have never been worried.
I used to be an anti-vitamin guy and then one morning I woke up and thought, what in the world am I doing?
10 egg whites scrambled, 3 pieces of turkey bacon, Ezekiel English muffin with a generous tablespoon of almond butter, and a Vann’s waffle with a tablespoon of natural honey.
After I eat, I throw a piece of chicken in the air-fryer. I bought this one off of Amazon. Easy and food tastes great!
I just stick in there with some olive oil and Montreal garlic chicken seasoning on it.
Next off to do chores. Had to heat the pool for Shay, because today it just so happened to be Smith’s skip day.
And then off to do some brush control. I will show you in a second, but behind our house, I am in a constant war with greenbrier vines (I think that is what they are called).
On my way out back, I stop to weed the garden really quickly.
And stop to water the plants.
Recently fallen tree over the creek. I like the base so I left it.
This stuff right here is nasty. It has a bulb in the ground that keeps it coming back year after year. It will climb so high they can choke your trees and kill them. Not to mention they have super sharp thorns.
You always get the view from the other side, so this is across the creek looking back.
We even have one tree that is completely horizontal.
At the top of the picture you can see what it used to look like. This is the view looking onto my neighbor’s section. It took me 2 years to remove the debris and get is cleaned up for the kids.
Smith and I spend a lot of time working back here.
Anyone know what this is? Leaves of three…….I also spray for this.
Ticket still on…..
Next I hustle inside and start getting ready for work. Now for three things I couldn’t live without. My toothbrush. Warning, it’s like a weed-eater in your mouth, but I am ruined forever from regular toothbrushes. Also, I have to use this for my feet. If not they crack. Fun fact, before I met Shay I NEVER used lotion or any sort of moisturizer—EVER. What was I thinking??? I use the other for my chest, legs, and arms, during the summer months. It may not be some uber manly, backwoods lotion, but quite frankly it remind me of summer and spending time on the beach or Nantucket, so I will let it slide.
Ready for work. MacBook, chicken and Yeti with ice.
Saying goodbye and getting hugs before I leave.
Quick photo with 2 of my staff members. I have 5 full-time employees and a handful of part-timers. Some work in office, while others work remotely. Couldn’t do it without them.
This morning, I had an appointment in the office at 9:45, then one at 10:45. In between appointments, I began running payroll, reviewed my group health insurance plan, and quoted life insurance plan for a few clients.
This is my friend and client Chad. How sweet is his Bronco!?
Making calls until I leave for lunch.
At least 2 days a week I grab a quick bite to eat at the country club. Since I eat the same thing pretty much everyday, I call to pre-order and when I get there it is ready. I was catching up on Chernobyl. Wow. What a show!!!
Ceasar salad (dry), 2 chicken breasts and sweet potato fries. Who is this guy? You many know his wife…Andrea. Dave has been a great friend of mine for years, and he’s a manager at the Stonebridge Ranch Country Club.
Back to the office to review some baseball schedule details. The rain in Texas right now is killing our schedule.
Starbucks for an Americano, and on my way, I grabbed 2 sonic drinks for Kensington and Ashby. I went to see them at lunch, but because of state testing that day, I could only drop them off. BOOOO.
I spent the next few hours making client calls and meeting with staff. Then for my 2:30 lunch.
Smith has a hitting lesson at 4, so I picked him up at 3:45 along with his friend James. After his hitting lesson I took them out with Nixon and I hit them 45 minutes of grounders. Nothing like a little practice.
I took the boys home, and at 5:45, look what Shay had waiting for me. Jameson is always my drink of choice. I really feel like Shay and I have perfected the cheese board. On this night, Shay had a strawberry Margarita. We sat in the dining room while the kids showered for dinner. We talked and worked out some more details for our summer trips. Love doing this with her!
After that, I was on to grilling chicken for dinner. This is the mango sauce we sometimes use from Trader Joe’s to marinate chicken.
I had to take a picture of my fountain. My name is Andrew and I have a problem. When the water in my fountain starts turning colors it drives me crazy. My trick to keeping it clean? In small amounts, put Hydrogen Peroxide in with the water. It keeps the water cleaner longer.
While I made dinner, I watched the 27 time World Champion New York Yankees slug it out for a win against Baltimore.
Sweet potato fries, corn from Trader Joe’s, and grilled chicken. My best memories are spent around the dinner table. Doing highs and lows, and hearing about everyone’s day.
After dinner call with another one of my best friends. Tab and I were probably talking baseball.
Some nights, I make chocolate chip cookies for the kids’ desert. The trick? Under-cook them. No one likes a burnt cookie!
Now time to cuddle up and watch a family show, or movie. Time spent relaxing as a family is always the best. I know the day is coming when they won’t want to jump or me or play “chase daddy’s foot”. 🙂
I know this sounds strange, but for years Shay and I have had small brownie with light cool whip almost every night. I find that if I allow myself this simple treat I don’t feel the need to eat a half a gallon of cookie dough topped with ice cream (or something of the like).
Confession time, yes I watch Bravo. Question my man card all you want! I like reality TV, and Bravo has perfected this art. My favorites are Southern Charm and Summer House.
I used to eat 10 egg whites before bed, but lately I have been sticking to Greek yogurt with protein mixed in . Sometimes, it’s good to change things up. You might ask why? After I finished playing football, I lost over 40 lbs, but in all reality even with the weight loss, I looked horrible. What I was doing was starving myself. All I would have in the morning was a protein shake, for lunch PB and J, and dinner, whatever Shay made. Naturally I lost weight, but it was miserable. One day, Sean and I got to talking nutrition. Sean connected me with Sagi Kalev, and Sagi rocked my world. Look Sagi up online if you want to read about him. He is a wealth of knowledge. I realized by starving myself all day my body was in a constant storage mode. I changed my routine, and naturally lost another 20 lbs, but gained a ton of muscle and strength. Now 7 years later, I still follow the same routine. I also treat food as fuel. In order to have sustained energy you have to eat, and eat the right foods. For the record I am not the authority on nutrition or fitness , all I know is what has worked for me. 🙂
Disclaimer-Sometimes the bear (me when I am hungry) comes out and I eat a whole Domino’s thin crust. HA!
Nighttime routine. Shay talked about this a few posts back. I balked at the oils when Shay first brought them up, but when we went on our last cruise, it was my idea to bring the diffuser! Sound machine, and a cool room are a must!!
On this night, Shay read for a few minutes, so I caught up on Billions on Showtime. In 10 minutes I couldn’t keep my eyes open.
Well, that’s a wrap. I am hoping most of you didn’t bail out on this post and are still around reading these last lines. I realize my boring life may not be that interesting. HAHA! On the off chance one or two of you are still reading, thank you for staying around. I leave you with this. When Shay and I first started dating in Manhattan, Kansas, I was always the one who got recognized in public. Those close to me know that I am super uncomfortable in that spot light. I control it now, but I used to break out in a dripping sweat when this happened. I realize there is no bigger spot light than what I used to do, but I loved that not for the “look at me”, but for the thrill of the competition. I belabor my point, so let me get to it. So many times I can be on the top of a mountain in Switzerland, in NY, or “you insert place”, and I hear, “aren’t you Mix and Match Mama’s husband”. I am always thinking two things. One, I am glad she is the one getting noticed and two, her readers (you) are the nicest people in the world. I realize that some readers are here because they are skeptics, or to be critical, but that small portion is overshadowed by the 99.9% of you that are awesome. Thank you for being so engaged and friendly to our family, specifically Shay. Shay truly is what you see on this blog, day in and day out. Her positive attitude, her engagement in our family, how much she loves me, our kids, and Jesus is authentic. I love her for this and a million more things (it also doesn’t hurt that I find her super attractive 🙂 ). I tell her this all the time….I would be lost without her. Thank you for letting me share my day!

Andrew, my husband is so not “that guy” in the gym that he doesn’t even like to workout with other people around, despite the fact that he played football for almost 20 years, including college, and has been a football coach for 6 years. Ha. Thanks to this half of our garage is his power cage and about 5 million weight racks. Fun post!!

This was such a fun read. I just have to ask, though – how many chicken breasts do you have to buy on a weekly grocery run?!? (I’m going to throw one in my air fryer for my lunch, thanks to this post!)
Mix and Match Mama says
He buys them! He does his own little shopping for chicken and eggs.
Kristin R. says
I remember a post you did a year or two ago, showing the kids’ lunch boxes in the fridge, and there were a whole bunch of egg cartons in there too. I couldn’t figure out why – but now it all makes sense! 🙂 Loved today’s post! You all are such a sweet family!

Wooo, what a productive dude! It takes us 15 minutes to get into town and even then it’s a little one traffic light town. I love the country but how nice it must be to be able to go back and forth to your house throughout the day, run errands, and take your kids to school by golf cart or walk! You get a lot done!
Melanie Blanton says
I thought you did a great job. I love to see a husband involved in the lives of his kids and wife. Thank you for that example. I have a question on what you eat daily. Is it because you workout? My husband is trying to lose weight after a terrible car accident where he broke his leg in 4 places. He is not able to workout, but does a lot of physical activity during the day. I know this is not your job but wanted your opinion. Thank you.
Valerie says
“Run Frenchie!” made me laugh! 🙂
Caroline Klobas says
Me too, Valerie!
Jade Hudson says
Oh my goodness, that last paragraph had me tearing up a bit! What a great post! Thanks Andrew (and Shay) for sharing!!

My goodness you eat a lot of chicken! I also get up early… 4:15am. My dad always got up at that time because he went to work early to be home for us after school. He’s now retired and I live 500 miles away from him but we chat over email during the 4am hour daily. I love an early morning!
Maggie C says
Loved how you let Andrew share his day! Random question, but what coffee maker do you guys use? We are in the market for a new one and I love how yours makes espresso too!

A Jura!!

Okay so things I learned about your fantastic husband! He truly is maximizing his hours during the day! Oh my all that yard work and exercise before going to work! And i have a former football player husband and I am so glad to see mine isn’t the only one who eats so many eggs lol!!! Y’all are truly a blessing!
Melinda Penny says
Love this post! How fun and now I need to get up and get more done! You both put me to shame! Ha!
Becky Przy says
So fun to get a glimpse into a day in the life of Andrew! I am wondering–how did you get so disciplined? have you always been this way? I have been trying for years to get down a routine (prayer, family time, work, etc), but it never seems to stick. I do get up early, workout, but by the time the kids get up, the rest of my “planned routine” goes out the window!
Ella says
Loved reading all about Andrew’s typical day!

Shelley, fellow reader here. so sorry to hear you’re in a rough patch of life. Not that this will ‘fix’ anything but i just read a great book ‘vertical marriage’ and it was a light easy read on keeping marriage centered and hit on certain things we dont always talk about in a marriage. Hope things start looking up soon.

Love this post!! You are both amazing!

Great job Andrew! I read the whole thing and loved it! My favorite was when you spoke about Shay at the end.. It’s so refreshing to hear husbands and wives speak so kind about their other half. That speaks volumes about you and Shay! God bless and I vote for more Andrew blogs!
Taylor says
Andrew should make a guest appearence on the blog monthly!! Regarding Andrew’s last paragraph, last year my friend was in Hawaii and ran into Sean and immediately texted me freaking out. I replied “the only Lowe I care about meeting is Shay.” Hahaha. This community loves your wife and the community she has created!
Bev says
Really enjoyed reading this! Loved your sweet words about Shay. As a regular follower, I’m pretty sure it’s safe to say the reason Shay has such “awesome, friendly” followers is a direct tribute to what you stated, her genuine authenticity. Just love her and your family!

Thank you for sharing this and presenting an amazing role of a husband, parent and all around wonderful man of the household. Trust me, the readers want to read more of this type of content!!

Ummmm I didn’t expect to finish reading this post with tears down my face. Let’s blame it on the post-partum hormones. What a sweet love you have for each other!
Andrew – I’m pretty dang amazed how much you fit into a day! I need to get my time management skills in line!
Dana says
I want to know how Andrew can separate 10 eggs everyday for his 10 eye white eggs every morning??? Or does he just buy the pre-packaged eyewhites??? LOL! I’d be half way through those 10 eggs and then 1 yolk would bust through. URGH!!!!
Justyna says
Loved this!! Can Andrew become your blog regular? His post saved my miserable commute!
Paige says
Whew! I didn’t get half way through and I was exhausted haha. I continued on until the end though and glad I did! I enjoyed seeing Andrews day for a change and wow what a sweet read to end the day 🙂 Getting up at 4:00am I would also be in bed by 8:00pm. HOW does he do it?!
Stacy says
So much Chicken!!! But seriously, Andrew clearly has a servant’s heart and I was also impressed with his calls to friends. I get so “busy” and realize I’m not making time just to talk to people. And he gets more done by 9:00 than I get done in a day ?
Becky says

PS I also love how much your sports upbringing has positively impacted your life today. Even though we didnt go “as far” – we find that to be true too. The discipline, mental strength, physical care, even knowing how to be on a team. It’s evident that the Lord can use sports to teach important life principles! Love it!
Eryn says
Andrew, I’m tired after only getting to 7:30/8:00 in the morning!! Whew!

Jocelynn Webb says
What a full day! You both seem like very authentic people, just as Andrew described you. I think that’s why after seven years, I still read your blog everyday and follow you on social media.
Hallye Terrell says
Great post, Andrew! Yes, I read all the way to the end and LOL’d at the last paragraph. I actually saw you in the Miami airport about a month ago, and told my friend “that’s Mix and Match Mama’s husband!” I didn’t say hi, because I thought that would be a little weird – so glad to know I’m not the only blog reader who recognizes you!
PS I had just been telling my friend how packing cubes are total travel game-changers…learned about them thanks to you, Shay!
Heather says
Ahhh Shay, Andrew just seems simply amazing! Love a man who loves his wife, children and Jesus 100%. You can absolutely tell you two are a perfect team.

Y’all are definitely a “power couple”! 😉

What a wonderful husband and dad. I am very impressed. Is there anything he is not good at!!!??? The last paragraph was super sweet and made me smile. And…..this man gets more done in a day then I do in a month!!!!!! (as a full time working mom with a 2 year old there is just not enough time in a day for me).
Rebecca Jo says
I’m exhausted just reading this. Between the both of you, man, a lot gets done in a day.

WOW! This was an interesting read and I am in awe of how disciplined Andrew is! It is awesome and inspiring! It is also awesome to hear about being so dedicated to his friendships… we could all learn from that!
Pam says
Andrew, thank you for sharing this with all of us! It was beyond inspirational & like reading “words of wisdom.” I’m a little on the OCD side when it comes to cleaning (I remember things being cleaned up as being important to you when I watched the anniversary video Shay posted), & I know it can be hard work keeping the inside & outside of a house looking in tip-top shape–the outside work you have done yourself is remarkable, & it’s cool the kiddos have such a beautiful yard to play in!
Your day, (& I know Shay’s) is so organized–WOW!
We’ve been with State Farm for over 30 years, so if we ever move back to Texas (born & raised in big D)–we know who to call! :}
Reading Shay’s “daily” (as I call it) is always a part of my morning, & this was a nice surprise today–so, thank you for taking the time out of your busy life to let us all take a peak into what makes you & your family so special! Blessing to you all!
Rene' Kiser says
OMG! This post was so awesome and also soooooo sweet!!!! Such a beautiful and genuine family!!!
Lisa Fowler says
Loved this post, especially your kind words about your wife at the end! That air fried chicken looked great! I think my husband would use that a lot. Not sure about throwing it in a bag, but that’s just me. Great job! You should start your own blog!

You do more things before I am even out of bed. I’m going to talk to my husband – he will have to step up his game! ha!!

I just went and looked (and looked at our manual) and it only says Jura. We bought it at Williams-Sonoma.

So grateful my boy still gets to continue on and follow his passion and is playing college ball in Kansas. Happy Summer and Happy Baseball Days!!
Jesslyn says
I loved reading about Andrew! I’ve never met anyone who eats that much chicken lol! My future husband, whomever that may be, will have to live up to Andrew standards. Seriously, what a great guy, father, and husband.
Anne says
Okay, seriously.. I feel like I need to shadow him for a day to figure out how to get all of that done. I kept checking the time markers to figure it out ?

kellie says
Andrew!!! How do you do it all!??!?! And seriously, how do you not turn into a CHICKEN?!? (hahaha, just kidding — I love chicken too but I don’t think I’ve ever eaten THAT much in one day!)
What a good Daddy you are, too — but the thing I love most is the time you and Shay take together over your fancy drinks and snack board. That’s sacred time when you’re on the run so much.
Thanks for the fun peek into your world!
Simona says
Great job, Andrew!
Wendi Findley says
Now I am super tired just reading this! Thank you for sharing your day and what made it even better is that my beloved Auburn Tigers were mentioned. War Eagle!!

Pam says
I was on the fence about the air fryer at Christmas time, but I just ordered through your link! Wow, you must buy a TON of eggs and chicken! LOL I consider Shay a friend, and my book club teases me about it. Thanks for the fun post! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m so happy you do,Pam!! That makes me so happy!!
Kristi says
Loved this!! Shay, did you have that for dinner too?!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes, I was sitting right next to him. He forgot to photograph me basically the whole day…but I was there! Hahaha!
Patty Anderson says
I hate to disappoint you, Andrew, but you can no longer get the Bath & Body Works cracked heel treatment. They discontinued the whole True Blue Spa line. Too bad-that stuff is amazing! Also, you eat like a Hobbit…1st breakfast, 2nd breakfast, etc. Good for you! I learned the hard way, too, that only eating small, healthy meals wasn’t doing me any favors. All it did was keep my metabolism slow and cause me to store the fuel as fat. Once I began eating smaller, healthy meals more often along with my exercise routine I finally began dropping weight. Loved seeing your “day in the life” post!
Mix and Match Mama says
We get it on Amazon!!!
Jessica says
Loved the post! Always fun to read about someone else’s life. Simple pleasure for a SAHM?. I love how relatable your family is. And EMAW?. Go Cats!

KatieB says
Yes! I want it too, especially if it’s “skinny.”
Elizabeth says
Did Smith miss state testing for a skip day?
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course not! That day was reserved for all of the kids who had missed it and needed to make it up.
Katie Stuen says
This is was sooo much fun to read! The world needs more Andrews. What a terrific guy!
Debbie says
I’m so tired and worn out just reading this post, I had to stop and get coffee, stop and let the dog out, stop and make breakfast and now I’m finally finished reading it and all I want is a nap. Can’t imagine actually living it! Lol! Way to go you over achiever Andrew! ????????????????
Morgan says
Wow, Andrew really makes the most of his day! Maybe this will motivate me to be somewhat less slothlike after the work day is over. 😉

What a great post!!! Loved it!
Anamarie Simmons says
Aside from being a pregnant woman and getting a little queasy looking at all the eggs and chicken he eats in one day :), I have to say I’m impressed with how well he documented his day! This was a fun read! Love to see how people spend their days, even if there will never be a day I willingly get up at 4am! 🙂
Amanda says

This is so fun! Love my fellow Yankees fans! I just downloaded that prayer app – what a great idea! My husband is also obsessed with Chernobyl right now, I am going to have to check it out. You two are such high performers, it is inspiring to see how you both attack the day.
Becky Cowen says
LOVED your post, Andrew! Two things… As I was reading and before I got to where you specifically talk about nutrition, I was already thinking I need to forward your post to my husband to convince him he is not eating enough! Also, I’m going to need more details on that strawberry margarita! It looks delicious!
Paula says
Andrew did a great detailed job documenting his day. Very impressive day. You two compliment each other very well. Your children are extremely blessed to have two very loving & dedicated parents.

Ashley says
Hi Shay! I have been reading for years and I thought I remembered you saying before that you and Andrew didn’t drink alcohol. Am I crazy or did you guys change your thoughts on it? I am just curious how you both balance it in your diets to look so amazing.
Mix and Match Mama says
No, we said we prefer to eat our calories instead of drink them. That’s still pretty true! I’d much rather eat queso than drink something 😉 .
Ahsia says
I really enjoyed reading about Andrew’s day. Your family is awesome.

Andrew seem so sweet and such a good hubby & dad. And what a good sport to document his day! Man, he gets so much done before 10 a.m. 🙂
Amy D. says
What a fun post to have a look into Andrew’s day! Thank you for sharing, Andrew!
Also, I love what you wrote about Shay. It’s so true! After following her blog for years, I got the pleasure to meet Shay at the Go Wild Conference in 2017 and it was such a fun experience getting to meet my favorite blogger in person. Shay is so down to earth and you can tell that she is totally the person you see on her blog in real life, she isn’t fake in any way.
Thanks again for sharing your day with us.
PS: I love that Andrew managed to slide in that Yankees championship reference! It made me laugh.

That was a lot of fun hearing Andrew’s side! He does more before taking the kids to school than anyone I know!!! But I wasn’t surprised, I love how intentional y’all live. I agree with what some others said … the last few lines were the best! What a nice man, husband, and father! ?
Karly Roush says
What a fun thing to read! Kudos to you and your disciplined routine! Love following Shays blog and love that you did this for her audience. My hubby and I are kstaters and we were there when you played! I remember seeing you and team on campus numerous times and you and the guys you were with were a real class act on and off the field!
Janie Reinert says
What a fun read ! You both are amazing on how much you do in 1 day !

Great job! Loved it! But I also now feel like a serious slacker!! ? serious question—what do you use to kill poison ivy that doesn’t kill your trees?? I need help with this!!!
cindy says
Great read! Thanks Andrew.

I loved this post! I have to say, my husband would never admit it, but he keeps up on all my Bravo shows! I love Summer House too! I was pretty amazed by how much chicken you guys must go through! LOL!
Elizabeth says
This was awesome!! Thanks so much for sharing Andrew!
Sheri says
Great post – thanks for sharing Andrew with us! Like everyone else, I’m amazed at how much he gets done in a day. Also love that he keeps his friends a daily priority, as well as his family. Do you both need an alarm to wake up in the mornings, or do you pop awake? (I can’t imagine getting up as early as the two of you do. It’s impressive!)
Alice says
Ok, Andrew is so nice! That last nit about you is perfect. You guys are both lucky to have each other!
I use that Montreal Chicken seasoning all the time!
Do you have a recipe for that Strawberry Margarita???
Alice says
Also, we have been having some crazy weather for baseball in Oklahoma! Our baseball fields in Broken Arrow are flooded. And more flooding and rain is coming. I know our boys are around the same age, mine was 9 in February.
Jodi C. says
I loved this – I think he should do it more often. Shay – I have read you EVERY DAY for years. 🙂 I love everything about you. I begin my day with a short devotional and prayer intentions with my family and a blog post from YOU. Allowing us to see a glimpse from Andrew – is just so giving and transparent. 🙂 Truly. I love hearing from all of your family.
I love celebrating Madeley’s swim lessons and praying for Ashby’s surgeries… I LOVE hearing your sweet Kensington’s book recommendations and cheering on Smith (just watching his expressions in photos IS ENOUGH – ha!). I love seeing your parents exude their love for you and even your pups adore your predictable routines and kind spirits.
There will ALWAYS be naysayers… But you – brighten my day. Plain and simple. Not for the style posts (although they are amazing) or even your incredible food recommendations… But Shay – simply for being you.
Thank you for that and for loving Christ and your family, BIG! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
This made me BIG TIME smile, Jodi. Thank you so much!!
Shay says
LOVING this change on the blog today! You get SO much done before I am even awake and now I feel like a slacker haha!

Lindsay D. says
Loved the post! Thanks for sharing!!
Mikala says
I enjoyed seeing Andrew’s perspective and I stuck around to the sweet end. I love your family and sometimes pretend that I’m part of it LOL! I’m a K-Stater too so always love it when a KSU blanket makes an appearance, or when you guys attend a football game. I love your intentional and disciplined way of living. Work hard, play hard. You inspire me, thank you! 🙂
Becky Carl says
Andrew! This was awesome! I must say by the time you put that piece of chicken in the air fryer, I was exhausted! And then you just kept on going! You sure pack a lot in your day but the things that touched me most was the prayer time and family time. I could see those are the things that ground you and make everything you do a success. Thanks for the info about nutrition, I was wondering about all the chicken, now I see. I started following Sagi just to see what he can help me with on nutrition. Believe me, I am a 63 year old Giamma and not interested in body building. But need nutrition help bad. So I would love for you and Shay to share more about nutrition. I’ve been following Shay for years and have been so blessed by your little family. It’s helped me more than you can know. God bless y’all always❤️
Wendy says
What a fun post! Thank you for sharing your day!
Laura says
Ok. Great post. I have questions. How many pieces of chicken did Andrew eat this day? I knew about the eggs and the brownie. Lol. What was Andrew recognized for in the past? I must’ve missed that. What candle was he burning? A manly scent? What oils? Ok it looks like you need to do a Q&A post about this post. Lol!
Allison Ferrell says
Absolutely loved this post! And hysterical too! Run Frenchie! lololololol

Andrew, this was great! What an inspiration you are to many young husbands and dads out there (I may have stood read this to my boyfriend this morning) What a beautiful note at the end. Thanks for sharing Shay with us and your family. I pretend Shay is my friend (glad to hear I can now be excited if I see the Shulls at the airport) her blog is such an inspiration to me in so many ways and many of us would be lost without her too! Come back and join us again soon!

Thank you so much for stepping outside of your comfort zone and writing a post about your day Andrew. You did a great job and I’d love to hear more from you. And a previous poster mentioned this, but I too saw baseballs on your coffee machine. Hahaha!!!
Also I really liked the morning selfie with each kid 🙂
Natashajk says
Also, even though I am a Jays’ fan, the “27 time World Champions” comment made me laugh!!!

I LOVE this post! Why are people’s everyday routines so interesting? I also got chills reading the last paragraph Andrew wrote. The way you two speak about each other is so refreshing and encouraging.

Okay, looking for a new car, which one would you prefer? The Cadillac or the Land Rover? Does Andrew drive the land rover, or does he have a truck? Car situation is a big talk over at my house right now!

I would say we love all of them, but I needed the bigger one 99.9% of the time for all of the kids, their friends and their stuff.

This was a great post! I read it twice and I now have that prayer app and I have shared it with my prayer group. I am so encouraged to have this way to track prayers.

Finally, the answer to the question: Which came first the chicken or the egg?
Now we know! The egg came first (10 whites), followed by chicken, chicken, chicken!
Great post!

Thank you for sharing a day in the life of Andrew Shull! I was worn out just reading about everything you get accomplished during the day just as I was after reading Shay’s daily schedule recently lol. I love reading of your sweet family and the fun times you have together. You’re making many sweet memories your children will always have. ?
Shana says
Wow! You did a great job Andrew and your words at the end made me cry! I Don’t know your family personally, but from all the times I Bring up something one of you do or like (we looked for the shoes Shay said you swore by for weeks for my husband) I sometimes feel like I do.
Christine says
Such a fun post! Out of curiosity… Why 4:01 a.m. instead of 4:00 a.m.? Someone may have already asked, but there’s a ton of comments on this post. ?
Marsha says
Enjoyed this post so much! Andrew sounds like a great husband, dad, boss, and friend. He is so disciplined! Of all the things he said, the thing I appreciated the most was his statement regarding prayer: “I am a big believer that when you say the words “I will be praying for you”, it is not just something you say to be nice. If you invoke the P word you better follow through and do some praying.”
I feel the exact same way. I consider prayer a privilege and if you say you are praying, somebody is counting on you to pray, so you better follow through or don’t say it!

This was so much fun to read! Thank you Andrew and Shay too. I love the blog and read it every day. My husband and I tried for years to have children and were unable to. We tried adoption and fell in love with two beautiful boys and at the final hour, they were given to a family member that came forward. My heart was broken into a million pieces. You have a beautiful family and I find comfort, joy, and inspiration in reading about your little ones! Thank you for sharing a piece of your life with us! God bless you all!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m so sorry, LeAnn. I am stopping right now to pray for you and your journey to be a mom.

I am always teasing my daughter (she is 27 and is a nursing student). I tell her that every night when I pray before bed, I pray for my future son-in-law. She always giggles, but in reality, it’s the truth! I pray that God will put a wonderful man who loves the Lord, in her path. Now…I think that I will say, “Lord, can you bring someone like Andrew into her life?” 🙂 You and Shay have the most wonderful relationship and your family is absolutely precious. God Bless you.
Denise Haley says

Interesting to see Andrew’s day & his thoughts, but what really led me to comment was his super sweet thoughts about Shay, at the end. Loved that this gave him a new appreciation for the effort it takes to maintain the blog everyday too!

Impressed with how much Andrew can fit into one day and inspired to accomplish more in my day!

Odd question.. lol. What brand of turkey bacon do you use? Mine never turns out crispy and would for it to. And how do you cook it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Butterball!

What a wonderful God fearing, masculine role model for your family and others. Everyone always doesn’t understand how my husband runs a football program and gets s$#! done too. He demands a lot from his people but is always there to take care of them and pray for them. He’s not quite the early riser like Andrew, but loves his role in life and appreciates his family and what hard work has gifted him. Wish more people could celebrate the the small moments and good in their lives and yearn for less! Thanks for the blog post!
Debbie Dunbar says
Great post!

Loved this post SO Much!!! What a wonderful and beautiful family you have! Thanks for always sharing a bit of your life – it’s so much fun to read. Andrew – you did an awesome job! 🙂

Thank you for sharing your day! I always tease my daughter about the amount of chicken she eats, I tell her she has been responsible for a massive drop in the world chicken population;). She will be happy to hear there is someone out there even more detrimental to chickens everywhere!?. PS. She insists that the chicken she eats only die of natural causes!

Man, this post really affirmed why you and Andrew are relationship and parent goals for me. Loved this behind the scenes peek at daily life from his POV, thank you for sharing!
I’m probably the minority here in terms of being one of your readers who doesn’t have my own household but would you ever consider doing a post or video with Andrew on lessons learned in your relationship and how it’s evolved from when you first started dating to now being parenting of 4 kiddos?
Erin says
Shay or Andrew! Is the Bible app you mentioned the same as the Echo or is it different?
Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
We use the You Version app!

Thank you!!! I love this idea

Wow! I really enjoyed this peek into your daily life! Andrew, you are a great writer and a terrific role model for men everywhere! I have to say I was most surprised by the heel cream, Bath & Body works cream and the Bravo tv shows, but that just makes you even more charming! God bless your family and your businesses! I know you honor Him by the way you live.

Now, wait! This was a week in the life of Andrew, wasn’t it? I thought after he got up at 4am, did the Bible study and app, went to the gym and worked out, went grocery shopping, came home and did the peloton, ate breakfast, weeded the garden and watered the flowers and fought the evil vine, made lunch in the air fryer, and took the kids to school, whew! Bring on the brownie, it’s time for bed! You mean he had to go to work too!? No wonder he needs breakfast 1 and 2 and lunch A and B! I’m confused and tired, lol!! Amazing!
Jen says
I love that he wrote and took his own pictures for the post! So interesting to get his perspective. You guys are so cute!
Marisa Tompkins says
Totally inspirational and my husband and I enjoyed following your schedules and how we can implement some of the efficient rhythms into our day. My husband rises every morning at 4:10 and has his quiet time. At 5 he comes upstairs and brings me a cup of coffee in bed..then we head to the gym at 5:30 for a workout most days. It’s a very sweet way to start the day. Anyway I wanted to ask about your coffee maker at home. We just make a big pot but that double spouted thing you have that makes espresso looks like something we might be interested in! Thanks for being so open how you use every day to be intentional and use the endless gifts and blessings God has given y’all.

Hi Shay! I’ve reading your blog for years but somehow I’ve missed what Andrew did before getting into insurance. Did he play football professionally? Why did he stop?
I have a Godly husband too-aren’t we blessed? ?
And I am right with Andrew when I say I’ll pray for you, I *mean* it. So when you share about Ashby’s procedures I PRAY for her as well as you Andrew. Thank you for sharing your lives with us. ?
Mix and Match Mama says
Ah! Thank you, Pam!! The first year we were married, Andrew was on the practice squad for the Detroit Lions. After that, he’s been in insurance 🙂 .
Dustin says
I would love to hear what else you cook in the air fryer!

What a wonderful blog post! So glad to know that our sweet, funny, loving Shay married such a loving, productive, happy, and family focused brother in Christ. As an adoptee I want to say that I thank God every day for my parents. Being adopted by loving parents was my biggest blessing. I love being able to “see” your beautiful family grow and thrive through Mix and Match Mama! God Bless

Great post Andrew! I’m a SF agent wife in Weatherford, OK and also a SF daughter…..my dad retired last summer after 40 years in SF. He started about the same time as Jay did. Anyways, I have loved reading Shay’s blog for years now. Love following your family….I learn things all the time like new things/places to eat, new products to use or new places to go on vacation or whatever! Thanks to your family for always being genuine….such a breath of fresh air in the world today. Have a great holiday weekend!
Jill says
My husband would be so envious of his day. My husband gets up at 4:30 to be at his office by 5:30 so that he has two hours of uninterrupted time to get things done before the school day starts at 7:30 (HS administrator). From there it’s non stop and he’s lucky if he gets to eat lunch. Can’t leave the school for lunch! After that it’s usually 5:00 before he can leave because there are still things to catch up on at the end of the day. If he’s lucky he can come home at 5, but plenty of days he’s there until late because he has to be there if there is a sports competition going on. During football season, he is there from 5:30 am until 10:30pm. This type of schedule leaves him physically and mentally exhausted. I wish he had the energy and time to work out. Maybe after retirement. Andrew’s day seems wonderful to me and I’m sure he appreciates the flexibility that comes with it.

I wonder: are we the only readers who noticed the picture collage of Andrew with dead African animals which presumably are pictures taken on a big game hunt? Such disturbing images to display. Big game hunting is grossly unfair to the targets. But perhaps that’s the “fun” that occurs after the “Christian” mission trips?
Mix and Match Mama says
The meat from every one of those animals went to a school where he and his friends built a kitchen with resources for them to store the meat to feed those kids lunch for a year (multiple trips, multiple years). For most of those kids, it’s the only meal they get all day. You probably should “presume” anything. He’s feeding kids that aren’t getting enough food to eat.

I have never commented on your blog, but this was such a fun post!!! It felt like Andrew was sharing an entire week’s worth of activity (and food)!!! I cannot believe that was just ONE day! Reminded me of a recent Adam Sandler comedy clip I watched when he talks about waking up at 4am (check it out!). Also, the Endless Summer body lotion, LOL!! 🙂
Thank you so much for sharing, Andrew!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ah!!! Don’t be a stranger, Kelly!! Come comment again 🙂 .
Karen says
Great post Andrew! Like other commentators, I am exhausted just reading how much you pack into a single day. You both seem to have managed to find MORE THAN 24 HOURS in your day(s)! What’s your secret??? 😉
Lo says
I think I speak for everyone when I say Shay, how dare you hold out on us and not tell us at which store we can get our own Andrew?!
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahahaha! I picked my version up at Kansas State University 😉 .
