Whoa!
Everyone settle in.
Grab a beer, maybe some schnitzel and get ready because today’s post has approximately 4 million Oktoberfest pics. #apologiesinadvance
Here’s the deal, I love me a festival. Give me any town in any city and turn it into a festival of some sort, and I want to be there. Right smack dab in the middle of it. Every year, our town hosts an Oktoberfest weekend and then my parents’ town does the very next weekend, so we always make it a priority to do it twice! This year, we even hit up our town’s Oktoberfest two nights in a row…because we clearly have issues 😉 . Here are the pictures to prove it…
Greetings from McKinney, TX!
I love my town. I love it so darn much, but I absolutely am OBSESSED with it during Oktoberfest!
The four Shull kids look forward to it all year long too! We always try and go late afternoon/evening, so we were pumped on Saturday when it was finally time to show up.
This year, we let Kensington bring Frenchie along too 🙂 . Poppy was thrilled to stay at home and enjoy the peace and quiet 😉 .
Guys, I am a lot to handle sometimes. My bubbly/obnoxiously cheerful personality around the fall/holiday season is probably a lot to live with. It’s a good thing the Lord had Andrew in mind for my hubby because he’s as giddy about this stuff as I am!
Let’s do this, Oktoberfest!
My big kids climbed way up high on the rock wall!
We ran into the Slaughter crew and all four big kids decided to spin like crazy on this ride. It made me nauseous just watching it go around!!
Living our best life 😉 .
It’s always so much fun when we can find a ride that all four kids can enjoy together!
It always makes me smile to see how they pair up each time. It’s always a little different.
Around they went!
When you’re too cool for school…
…when you’re just filled with JOY!
Meanwhile, Samuel and Frenchie waited patiently for them to get off. Hahaha! Isn’t this the cutest?! Samuel didn’t want to ride, but he wanted to watch…with Frenchie. (By the way, Madeley ONLY calls that dog French Fry. Ha!)
When you’re like “What the heck is wrong with this weather?! Record breaking temps?! Warmest September in 100 years! What is going on?!”.
Pony time for Samuel and Madeley!
Just a girl and her horse 🙂 .
It wouldn’t be Oktoberfest without root beer!
It’s been a rocky fall for this one, but she has really kept the most positive attitude. I am so proud of her!
Cheers!
Oh hey there, Auntie Catherine! So, what do we think? Is this new baby a boy or a girl? I’ve already guessed what I think his name will be if he’s a boy (I haven’t finalized my answer if it’s a girl yet).
This one.
So many people, so festive, so happy…we love you, McKinney!
Smith and Isaiah were having a very serious conversation.
We played so many games and rode so many rides all day/night long! I just love the community feel about it!
They all had so much fun!
So, that was our first Oktoberfest! Last Friday after school, we drove to Southlake (my fam was all out of town, so we didn’t meet them there) and enjoyed their Oktoberfest too…
Round two, let’s do this!
This boy has his mama’s heart!
More root beer? Of course!
Gang’s all here!
We always have to stop and get body art!
She was two days post-op and DOING FANTASTIC! Praise Jesus!!
All the pretty art 🙂 .
We drank root beer, got our body art, played games and rode rides!
It was so much fun!
Until next year, Oktobefests. We always enjoy you so much!! xo

Such sweet photos, your family just melts my heart! Madeley’s little smile is everything. Looks like such a fun celebration, we don’t do anything like this in the UK 🙁 …also, what lipstick are you wearing during the first Oktoberfest?!

Seriously so much fun!

Will you tell us your guess on boy name?! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I will tell you after he’s born. They’re keeping it a secret, and I think my guess is pretty good, so I would hate to give any part of it away. Who knows? Maybe I’m totally off???
Jill says
Well you are great at choosing baby names! 🙂
Laci Murray says
We love October-December around here too, so bring it on!!
Priscilla says
Samuel looks just like your dad, and you are looking more and more like your mama!!
Erika Slaughter says
Is it wrong that I feel like McKinney needs a redo with the Oktoberfest weather??!!
Kim C says
McKinney sounds like a fantastic town to live in! I love seeing all the different things that go on there during the year and I’m envious of some of them. We have an arts festival at the beginning of September but really wish we did an Oktoberfest.
Can you refresh my memory — when is Catherine due? I know I saw it somewhere on Instagram but can’t remember how long ago.
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t know if she’s put it out there or not, so I probably shouldn’t say. Not soon enough will be my answer 🙂 . I’m ready to love on a new baby!!
Kim C says
I understand! I thought one of them had mentioned it but with my mind anymore it easily could’ve been someone else and I’ve mixed them up ? Whenever it is, that baby will be so loved! ♥️
Mary Jane McNeill says
I’ve just got one thing to say…BUY THAT GIRL A PONY!!! 🙂
Marilyn says
Hi. Looks like a fun event! This makes me think of Helen, Georgia. Have you ever been there? It is a little Bavarian Village in NE Georgia. We are going there for Thanksgiving this year. Google the images at Christmas….looks so cute. Have a good day!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t! That sounds like my kind of town!!
Susan D. says
So Sean and Catherine are having a boy?? My hubby is one of 3 boys… such fun!
Mix and Match Mama says
They don’t know! I just have my boy guess solidified. I am not quite sure what I’m going to guess the girl name will be. Make sense?
Patty Anderson says
Always a treat to see such happy smiles, but that look on Smith’s face on that ride…priceless!
Carly says
Keep the fall posts coming! Nothing gets me in a better mood. I just ordered a book I thought you might like. “Love in the Salted Caramel Cafe” saw it on Amazon and thought it would be the perfect fall read 🙂
Genevieve says
Can you tell me where you bought the striped dress from? I love it!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s from last year at Nordstrom!
Janet says
I laughed way too hard at Madeley in the picture with Samuel. She looks like she is done with that awful heat!
Lacey says
You guys would LOVE the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk! Have you been? We took our girls back in August and the weather was perfect and we had the best day! The rides, the games, the food, and the beach…so much fun 🙂
Anna says
Since Catherine is having baby #3, maybe y’all can team up and do a post on baby products that y’all liked, didn’t like or just okay.
Lisa says
Oh no! How come it’s been a rocky fall for Kensington?
Mix and Match Mama says
That dang rash! It’s been a beast! She’s had such a good attitude, but that’s hard to deal with. I’m pretty certain we’re on the right path now, but considering she got it over a month ago, it’s been a long fall for her.
Jessica Luedtke says
I hope this isn’t too personal, but do you put any kind of spending limits in place for your kids when you go to stuff like this? I also love stuff like this but feel like between rides, games, food, etc. it can get really pricey, really quickly…especially with 5 kids!! Any tips???
Mix and Match Mama says
We talk about that every year, because the fair is PACKED and yet also so expensive (when you add it all up!). For the games, you use “cards” that you buy, so we buy each of them a card to use however they want (thus limiting spending and keeping everything fair)…they’ve wised up and if they really want a prize, if they can’t win it, they ask Dad to use their card and try.
