Today’s post is one of my faves each year because….it’s the winning recipe from my annual RECIPE EXCHANGE!!
This was my 10th year in a row to host a recipe exchange and the winning recipe was Erika’s French Onion Sliders (or Oui, Oui Sliders as she liked to call them too, her source for the recipe can be found HERE). Every year at my party, there is a theme to what the guests bring (appetizers, casseroles, side dishes, desserts, etc), but since this was the 10th year, we decided to make it “bring whatever you want” and her sliders were the night’s big winner. They were the perfect cheesy, buttery bite for our night and would be a fantastic edition to your next party.
Congrats, Erika! Thanks for bringing them to our party!!!

- Yield: 24 sliders 1x
Description
These cheesy, buttery bites are the perfect appetizer or would make a delicious main course too!
Ingredients
- 8 tablespoons butter, divided
- 2 large sweet onions, sliced
- 2 pounds ground beef
- 2 tablespoons beef base (such as Better than Boullion), divided
- 1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce, divided
- Kosher salt and black pepper, to taste
- 24 slider buns
- 12–16 ounces Gruyere cheese, grated
- 2 tablespoons sesame seeds
- 1 tablespoon fresh thyme
- 1 teaspoon onion powder
- 1 teaspoon garlic powder
Instructions
- Melt 2 tablespoons of the butter in a skillet over medium heat. Add in the onions and reduce the heat to medium low. Cook, stirring occasionally, until lightly caramelized, about 25-30 minutes. If the onions start to look dry or burnt, add a tablespoon of water to the pan.
- In a large bowl, mix the ground beef with half of the beef base and half of the Worcestershire sauce. Season with salt and pepper.
- Add the beef to the skillet full of onions. Increase heat to medium-high and brown the beef, breaking it up and mixing with the onions as you go. Once browned, drain off excess grease.
- Preheat the oven to 350°F. Lightly grease a large baking sheet. Separate the tops from the bottoms of the slider buns. Fit the slider bottom buns tightly on the baking sheet.
- Evenly distribute the beef and onion mixture over the bottom buns. Top with the Gruyere cheese. Cover with the top buns.
- In a microwave safe bowl, melt the butter with the remaining beef base. Stir in the remaining Worcestershire sauce and continue to mix until well-combined. Using a pastry brush, brush the beefy butter mixture over the top buns. Sprinkle with the sesame seeds, thyme, onion powder, and garlic powder.
- Bake the sliders until the cheese is fully melted and the tops of the rolls are lightly browned, about 20 minutes.

Erica, Congrats on the win!! These would be perfect for super bowl Sunday. But that is way too long to wait to fix them, so going out to get ground beef today and have them this weekend. Hope you and your family enjoyed your time at the University of Tennessee, Knoxville when your husband was there to ref a football game. Only about a 45 minute drive from where we live and both of my sons attend college there. Go Vols!

ME TOO!!!!

Based on the directions, its not a patty so much as a scoop of the meat and onion mix right? If that’s true that makes it so much darn easier.
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!! Exactly! I loved the texture of it that way too!

Are you suppose to dissolve the beef base as according to the directions on the jar or just add it to the beef?
