Okay, for the most part, I can make stuff and not be tempted to eat it. Do I love cake? Yes. Do I go in there and just eat on it all day? No. This Spicy and Sweet Snack Mix? I have to make myself not eat it. Oh my gosh! It’s this kind of snack that I cannot stay away from.
It’s a little spicy, a little sweet, a little salty and a whole lot of crunchy.
Basically, it’s perfect.
There is not very much cayenne in this recipe…just enough to give it a little umph, but not too hot for kids. BUT if I’m making this for adults only (like a little bar mix), I will double the cayenne because I like the extra kick it gives things. Either way, make it this holiday season to either gift to someone or enjoy yourself while watching your favorite holiday movie.

Description
A little spicy, a little sweet and a whole lot of delicious! This is great for gifting or for snacking.
Ingredients
- 1½ cups Cinnamon Chex
- 1½ cups cheese crackers (like Cheez-its!)
- 1½ cups pecan pieces
- 1½ cups lightly salted cashews
- ¼ cup butter
- ¼ cup brown sugar
- 1/8 teaspoon cayenne pepper
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 375 degrees.
- Lightly grease your cookie sheet. Set aside.
- In a big mixing bowl, add in your cereal, crackers, and nuts. Toss together and then set aside.
- In a small sauce pan over medium-high heat, add in your butter, brown sugar and cayenne and melt together. Once melted, remove from heat and pour over your cereal mixture. Quickly toss together and then pour out on your prepared baking sheet.
- Pop this in the oven and bake 15 minutes. Remove and cool before storing and/or serving. We keep ours in a big gallon-sized baggie.
Notes
I like to double the cayenne in this recipe for an extra kick! Also, all of the ingredients we use when making this mix are gluten-free. This is a great snack choice for those of you who have eliminated gluten too!
