Happy Friday, friends!
It has been a BUSY week! Between the kids and me, we had five different doctor appointments, Smith had a middle school orchestra audition, we had a choir scavenger hunt, and as crazy as it sounds, I’ve already received about 4 billion emails about all of the “end of school” details. End of school?! What? What?! YES! We have less than a month to go!!! I cannot believe everything is winding down. This year, our district added extra minutes to each school day so that we could get out of school a full week earlier. If anyone on our school board happens to be reading this, please feel free to add a few more minutes next year…I didn’t miss those minutes, and I sure love getting out a week earlier 🙂 .
I have a few faves for my week! As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika .
We’re baaaaaaaack! Coming up this summer, it’s SEASON 2 of THE BESTIE BREAKDOWN! Erika and I are SO excited to share new episodes with you all summer long! If you have reader questions you’d like us to answer at the end of episodes, episode topics you’d like us to break down or any other podcast requests, email us! thebestiebreakdown@gmail.com is where you can send all of your requests for this next season! We’re so excited to podcast with you again!
Loads of question about my coffee mug! Isn’t it so fun?! It’s very “summer”. It’s an Amazon find and keeps my coffee warm for hours. I love it so much!! I also love my shorts which are another Amazon find! You can find my sweatshirt HERE. Also, so many questions about my phone case and pop socket 🙂 . They’re both Amazon finds!
So, this isn’t the best pic, but I HAD TO SHARE IT!!
I’ve said this before, but was always sleep on flannel sheets. Always. Year around. Andrew and I think that once you sleep on flannel, you just can never go back. Worried about getting hot? Turn down the A/C…trust me, it will be worth it 🙂 . We ordered new white flannel sheets for our bed, and they arrived on Saturday morning. We. Are. Obsessed. Andrew even went as far as to say that we will be gifting them to everyone we know for every birthday and holiday moving forward. Bahahaha! These are even more soft and fabulous than other ones we’ve had in the past. If you’re wanting the best night of sleep ever, try them 😉 . They come in other colors too!
I cannot quit it with these raffia earrings! In fact, I am wearing them right now as I type this! They are SO light!! I love them so much that I also bought them in the multi as well. They just scream “summer” to me and jazz up everything I wear. My dress is HERE. It’s TTS!
Love them 🙂 !
Last week, I shared these workout pieces with you…
TEE//SPORTS BRA//SHORTS (all three come in multiple colors!!)
…and I had several requests for more workout wear heading into summer!
How cute is this tank and these shorts?! (I’m wearing the same sports bra as in the above pic!). Both come in many, many colors and run TTS (I bought them in xs), but I thought they were just so CUTE!
These shorts make me want to go for a run in Hawaii! After they arrived, I loved them so much that I bought a second pair too. They come in the cutest colors!!
And because I always need a layer early in the morning, this sweatshirt 🙂 . It’s also available in multiple colors!
That tank works well for yoga too…
…with those Zella leggings I always talk about (which are on sale right now!).
Awwwww…this picture…
…melts my heart! This was sweet Smith the day of his first violin lesson!
Now…
…it’s been four years, and he’s really doing SO WELL!! This week, he auditioned for the middle school orchestra, and we’re so proud of him and his hard work. I cannot believe that little boy who begged us to take lessons (to be like Charlie Daniels) is now this big almost middle schooler. We weren’t sure how long it would take to find out which level he qualified for, but as soon as he played his piece, the teacher said he qualified for the highest level they offer! WE WERE SO PUMPED! I know it will be challenging for him, but I very much feel confident that he’ll rise to the occasion. Plus, I realllly liked the orchestra teacher and can just tell in my heart that this is a great fit!
If you’re needing something new to make for dinner this next week, I have 18 Spring Suppers just in time for the warm weather! You can see them HERE!
One last thing, don’t forget that I am THE QUEEN OF PINTEREST 🙂 . If you love pinning too, I have my spring and summer boards in full swing right now! Hop on over and see what I’ve been pinning these days!
That’s it for this Friday! I hope you all have a sunshine filled weekend! See you Monday! xx

Thank you for the flannel sheet recommendation and link! My 10 year old will only sleep on flannel sheets and it’s hard to find just solid sheets in flannel. He always has Christmas sheets on his bed. ☺️

Mary says
Way to go, Smith!! I was an orchestra kid too. That’s a huge deal to qualify for the highest level at an earlier grade. He should be so proud!!!
Susan says
The oxford sheets from Land’s End are wonderful to if you’re looking for something a bit more lightweight for the summer. Land’s End makes the best sheets!

There is nothing better than cosy, flannel sheets.

Go Smith! I played violin since age 9, and all throughout middle school and high school. Orchestra is the best!!
Lisa K. says
I feel the same way about the Cotton Jersey Knit sheets from Lands’ End. I can’t go back! And they work well in all seasons.
Arika says
We get flannel sheets from LL Bean and they are AMAZING! We use them year round as well. So soft and cozy.
Mary Straus says
I just sent an email telling her how amazing they are. I agree. Ditto!!!!
Julie says
Off topic…but your IG story last night of Kensington crashing your date made me laugh out loud, literally! I think I played it back about 10 x’s because it was SOOO stinkin’ cute and funny! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
We were so close to the perfect date 😉 .
Penny says
I am so impressed by Smith and his musical pursuits. The dedication, commitment to practice and work speak volumes about who this young man is becoming. I am a pianist and my parents had the foresight when I was too young to make such decisions to give me the opportunity of piano. Through everything else – sports, extracurricular – in school, music is something you keep for life. It is my personal joy. I recently accompanied a young man approximately 25 years old who masterfully presented “Amazing Grace” for his grandfather’s memorial service. I am encouraging Smith from afar.
Lindsay says
What sandals are you wearing in #4?
Mix and Match Mama says
Aren’t they cute? They’re super old Tory Burch!
Kristi says
Hey Shay!! I bought the whole outfit!! Love it!! What other color did you get in the shorts?! And how many miles did you run today?
Mix and Match Mama says
It looks like the ones I ordered are already sold out (with the floral down the sides). The second color I ordered was “green glow”. And today, I ran 3 miles!
Nikki O’Dell says
I love those shorts! Do you remember which color you ordered? There are several choices.
Mix and Match Mama says
The second color I ordered was “green glow”!
Kym says
Congrats Smith! from a former Viola player!
Leslee B says
Congrats Smith!!!
Hallie says
I have to know what other color you ordered the Nike shorts in!! I love those shorts
Mix and Match Mama says
Aren’t they adorable?! I also ordered them in “green glow”!
Heather M says
I am sweating just thinking of Flannel sheets on my bed…We have cooling sheets on our bed from Brooklinen and I am still hot in those suckers. ha ha
Jenn says
I was influenced to buy those sheets- thank you! I just bought a house and am finally getting a king-sized bed for the first time, so I’m excited to try these sheets on it:)
Constance says
As an orchestra teacher turned private violin instructor, I am so so so pumped for smith!!!!!!
Sarah Barry says
Excited for the Bestie Breakdown! My one suggestion is that you discuss topics that you do not usually on the blog (so that it’s new content and not redundant). Not that you need suggestions, but thought I’d mention!!

Wow I hadn’t thought of flannel sheets for years. My Grandmother had them on her beds all year long too, I loved it when I stayed with her for 2 weeks of the summer. They were so soft and I never felt hot on them and back then( early 70’s)there was no AC’s just fans. Now I’m going to have to get me some.
Mary Straus says
Shay,
Hello. You have got to try llbean supima flannel sheets. They are even better than lands end. They wash and dry like no other. Once you try them Andrew will be gifting these instead ?
Kay says
I, too, LOVED flannel sheets….until I hit menopause & have hot flashes during the night. Then all of the flannel sheets got swapped out for cotton percale & I sleep much better! Lol!!!
Susannah says
Flannel sheets are way too hot for us too
Patty Anderson says
Way to go, Smith! Has he ever seen the Trans Siberian Orchestra? I can see him doing his thing with them someday!
LB says
Hey Shay! From one planner to another, 1/2 of my brain is already on vacation mode, but half of my brain is thinking ahead to next school year. Do you guys do heavy back to school clothes shopping right before school? Do you just buy here and there? Would you consider a back to school clothes shopping post, especially with the big kids?
Mix and Match Mama says
The weather is still so warm here when school starts that we do a little bit of back to school shopping before school begins, but mostly, we get stuff here and there as the weather changes.
Joanne says
Congrats to you budding violinist! That’s fantastic.
Elizabeth Ripley says
Hi Shay, I love your blog, and I look forward to reading it each day! Thank for your openness with your very special family and your love of Jesus! I’m wondering if anyone is having the trouble I am this week seeing any photos you post. I could not see any of the numbered photos today, also, some of the others. They don’t come up with your comments. Sometimes if I click on the heading, the photo will come up, but not always. I am not a “techie”. Am I doing something wrong? I enjoy seeing the photos! Help!
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh no! I’m sorry about that! I’m not techy either!!! I always “clear my cache” or cookies or whatever when I have problems. Did you try a new browser? I wish I were tech smart. Ugh! I’m sorry!
Raelynn says
The Jean shorts from Amazon that you posted today. Are they TTS and which style/color did you select?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! They are! Mine are “galaxy blue” and I bought them in a small.
Mare Deig says
What size did you order in the Nike shorts? Did you size up like they recommend?
Mix and Match Mama says
I did not! I ordered xs (which would be my TTS).
Stacey Blackford says
How deep is your mattress? We have a temperpedic and I’m having trouble finding sheets that have a shallower pocket depth. The fitted sheets are just too big and scrunch up during the night. Do they stay on better with the elastic all around?
Mix and Match Mama says
We sleep on a Sleep Number I10!
Emily says
Way to go Smith!! I’ve been wondering how his audition went. So proud of him!
Tiff says
WAY TO GO SMITH!!! I hope he has the best time in orchestra next year. From a former orchestra kid 🙂
Janet says
I thought it was only me that could sleep on flannel year round. Glad I’m not the only one.
Kristy Moore says
I’m so excited for Smith! Some of my best school memories were those that involved Band class! I’m so glad and proud that he didn’t give up (this teacher is proud of his perseverance!).
Adding a couple of extra minutes on per day sounds like an awesome idea to get out a week early-I may pass this onto our school district!
Leslie says
Off topic, but I noticed in the background of your pics- What is lining your shelves with the purses and other things on them? I need all the info! Thanks!
Pamela says
Oh my goodness, Smith just melts my heart. I just can’t say how “cool” it is that he plays the violin. …and now the highest level in orchestra?! Sports and music are so beneficial in those years. It teaches so much and it seems like Smith really enjoys and wants to master both. By the way, you’re doing such a good job, Mama. God Bless you and your sweet family.
Mary says
A few weeks ago, you asked for recommendations for music. Have you listened to the father/daughter duo, Mat and Savannah Shaw? Incredible voices. They basically started their “music career” during Covid and already have 3 or 4 albums. I think you would enjoy them.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve never heard of them! Thank you for the rec!!
Lauren says
OH excited the podcast is coming back! Also – if you guys haven’t heard of Billy Strings yet … get on board.
