It’s a little life lately for your Thursday.
Only one more sleep ’til summer!
Every bit about this makes my heart happy.
We are already loving all of the time outside! Last year, our backyard time was cut short when the house flooded, so this year, we’re extra excited to spend time in our yard and pool! I cannot believe this kid is almost in middle school!!! Someone hold me.
Speaking of hold me…this girl right here is ready for first grade. And Milan. Ha! She can strike a pose!
We came home from Mexico on Mother’s Day and immediately went outside to play. Being outdoors is my FAVORITE thing to do with my family!! Andrew made us dinner on the patio, and I loved every minute of it.
Agh! And then the wheels fell off. Later that night, I opened a new bottle of something, and it had pressure built up in it and sprayed directly into my right eye. We flushed it out for a long time but after two hours, I realized I needed to go to the ER. Fast forward two miserable days…
…and I was on the mend (after one ER visit and 2 optometrist appointments) and enjoyed Taco Tuesday with my sweet friends.
Meanwhile, Madeley has decided that the days leading up to summer are exhausting 😉 .
We’ve had SO MUCH RAIN this week!! My yard is looking nice and green though!
‘Tis that time of year for me to make homemade jam! So far, I’ve made 48 jars of strawberry and blackberry jam!!! If you want to go back and re-read my JAM POST, you can get all of the details about how/why I love jam making. It’s so easy and one of my favorite things to do. Next up, peach!
We stopped by the grocery store the other day, and it was just the two of us. I love hanging with this kid.
The Byron Nelson Golf Tournament came to town!! The four of us played hooky and went on Friday. It was SO MUCH FUN! I loved that it was right down the road here in McKinney. The sun was shining, and it was a great day to watch golf with friends.
These two. Always together.
Speaking of which, on Saturday morning, Isaiah had the perfect birthday party! On the driveway, they had a little bounce house, breakfast tacos and popsicles. I don’t know about the children, but I left thinking Catherine should plan my next party. Ha!
So much cousin love.
And sister love.
And hippo love 🙂 .
Our baseball tournament was cancelled, so the Shull six found themselves in the pool all afternoon on Saturday!
Anyone else just get giddy about outside time?! We can’t get enough!
Lots of sass and one upside down kiddo.
Mades always has the best bed head 😉 .
That’s a bit of life lately!
Okay, I have to jet…today, I have both the fifth grade field day and the kindergarten splash day! Whoop! Whoop! One more sleep ’til summer! xo

Your poor eye kills me!! Ouch!! I did something similar with liquid barkeepers friend a couple months ago. What did you get in yours??
Mix and Match Mama says
A chemical that’s great for basically everything…but the eye.

We are so ready for summer too. We have 1 more week left. I love being outside with my kids but it has done nothing but rain the last 2 weeks here in East Texas. I am hoping we have some sunny days ahead. Your kiddos are growing up so fast! They are precious.

Curious what did you open that went
in your eye? You know so I won’t do that
Glad you were ok.
Mix and Match Mama says
It was totally my fault and not the product’s fault. I opened something that as harmless as it appeared to me, was not meant for my eyeball, so I should have then and should always practice opening everything away from my face. It was a hard lesson to learn. I can’t blame the product because it was truly my fault for being careless.

I am so intimidated by making jam. I also don’t want to die. ? Do you think you could do a video or story explaining the process? I’m much more of a video person when it comes to things like that.
Mix and Match Mama says
Freezer jam is where you should start!! When I “can” things, I do get more nervous because that process is way more intense. Freezer jam is a great introduction to canning and preserving.

Lots of love for your Life Lately! Have so much fun at the kiddo’s events today:).

Anyone else want to be adopted by Shay & Andrew??? 😉 I do! I do! Lol
Nancy says
I’m curious how did they end up treating your eye?
Mix and Match Mama says
Lots of medicine…a steroid, antibiotic, pain killer plus they put a “bandage contact” over my eye to keep a topical eye medicine in place and dilated my eye to reduce movement…of course, they flushed it like crazy too.

Question – do you let your kids go in the pool whenever they want or is there specific “pool time”? If I had a pool, I feel like I would be in and out all day if it was hot.
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh that’s a good question! They can’t just get in whenever they want. They have to ask and then they also have to have an adult present at all times.
Bridget says
The million dollar question… what was the chemical??
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m not going to say because it wasn’t this poor product’s fault. It was 100% mine.

My comment about being “adopted” by Shay and Andrew was in fun but I think it is easy to take our close family togetherness for granted. My husband and I have always been very close with our two sons (now grown & gone). One thing we always did was eat lunches and dinners at the kitchen table together. Our oldest son was in the Army ROTC program at a military college, and he was one of the closest kids to home during his years there. So when he and the other cadets would get leave on the weekends, my son would rarely come home by himself. Instead, he would fill his car with friends and off to our house they would come. (We absolutely loved this, by the way!) One weekend, we had a new guy there and when we sat down all together at the table to eat, this young man became very quiet and just sat there staring at his food. My son noticed his behavior and asked if there was something wrong. I will never forget this moment as he replied, “I have never sat down to eat a meal at the table with my family.” Suddenly we all stopped eating and looked at him in shock. I said, “You have NEVER eaten at the table all together?” And he replied no. He explained that when his family ate, they all filled their plates in the kitchen and then everyone dispersed to various areas in the house to eat. I asked him if at holidays they might have eaten together and he said no. We were absolutely gobsmacked by this revelation. This young man was SO TOUCHED to be sitting at the table with what he called his “adopted family” – us – that he, for a moment, had to take in the significance of that before he could eat. I still think of this incident all the time and realize that sometimes the things we do every day with our own families is so very important. We do it almost on auto-pilot and often take it for granted. Cherish every moment you spend with your family and invite others into your home to expose them to this kind of family togetherness and love. We just cannot know how much it might mean to someone who has never had that in their life.

Love, love, love family time! Question, what are the red flowers in the pots next to the red adirondack chairs by the pool? I can’t tell in the picture. They are gorgeous, especially the ones in the taller planter.
Mix and Match Mama says
I think you’re referring to our red geraniums! I love geraniums in the summer!!
Joanne says
So sorry to hear about your eye but the rest of your week looks amazing!
Sheaffer Sims says
I feel so close to Madeley right now.

Hi Shay! Love the Byron Nelson!! I went to it many years ago when I lived in Irving/Valley Ranch. So fun! Love your sandals in that picture! Do you have a link or brand name you can share? Thank you!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re from Nordstrom! They’re Valentino!
