Happy Thursday, friends!
Here’s a little look at life lately…
A pizza date with my favorite oldest child at Cadillac Pizza Pub in McKinney 🙂 . This was their “pie of the month” and clearly, it had me at “jalapeños”.
Beautiful morning sky in McKinney.
Did you know that McKinney, TX is known for their…
…crepe myrtles? If you visit right now, you will see them EVERYWHERE! It was in full bloom when I left!
bACK on Nantucket…
…they hydrangeas are slowly starting to bloom. I love hydrangea season! Please anticipate many pics to come 🙂 .
They picked me up from the airport, told me to drop my bags, put on my swimsuit, and then they whisked me off to lunch at Millie’s and…
…the beach! It officially feels like summertime on Nantucket.
On Monday…
…Mades had her first sailing lesson. Smith took sailing lessons for years and LOVED it, and now Madeley is doing it too. Ashby wasn’t interested until this week, and now, she wants to do them too. After Madeley loved it so much, Ashby decided she wanted to try this summer too. I love that they’re wanting to learn a new skill!
Early morning views…
Oh how I love to bike! The traffic has really picked up here now that so many seasonal residents are back on island, so I’m especially loving to bike. If I can avoid driving, I do.
New England charm.
Always by my side.
We try and take our lunch to the beach just about every day. With record breaking temps in Boston this week, we have had warmer weather here on island as well. While Boston felt like 103 on Tuesday, Nantucket only felt like 78. We had sunny skies and sandwiches…the perfect lunch combination.
Any time I walk or run, it basically just consists of me stopping every four feet to take a picture. I just LOVE the flowers.
Super yacht sighting this week on Nantucket. I just love a boat. I really want to knock on their hull and ask for a tour. I won’t…but I really want to see inside.
And that’s life lately.
I’ll see you tomorrow, friends! xx

Katie Stewart says
Ahh, I love a good Crepe Myrtle. The deep pink is my favorite! So jealous of that “feels like 78” on Nantucket… we’re feeling like 100 here in SEMO today! Happy Thursday!

Love these summer pictures on Nantucket!!! Shay, can you share more about the beach? Is the water very clear? Can you see your toes in waist deep water? Is there ever any worry about rip currents? And I remember you sharing how one beach (maybe the north shore?) is known for sharks so no swimming there! Nantucket is definitely a place I’d love to take my family! But we love the clear ocean waters so I was curious what it’s like on Nantucket. Definitely, the island has such a New England charm to it that I’m sure it’d be amazing to visit. The beauty of the homes and flowers and darling shops… it all looks so lovely!🥰
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s very much not a tropical beach destination. It’s not a crystal clear, white sandy beach, palm tree kind of spot. I would actually say it’s not a “beach” destination. I think the beach is a great perk if you come here during the summer months, but if someone told me they wanted a beach vacation, I wouldn’t say this is the spot. It is VERY lovely!! I think you’d really like it. The beaches are all public and have life guards who inform about the ocean conditions and raise their various flags for current conditions (rip currents, shark sightings, etc). I’m not much of a worrier, so I don’t worry about those things…I just pay attention to what the life guards have on notice and abide by that. Great Point is the very tip top of the island and you have to have a special annual pass to access it (it’s the most remote part of the island) and there is no swimming allowed because there are many many sharks in that spot. The other beaches are very active with swimmers. Other than being at Great Point, I have never seen a shark in the water. Now…sharks and rip currents don’t bother me, but croc and alligators VERY MUCH DO. So, I DO worry about some things when I’m in certain places 😉 . The “Florida version” of Shay worries a lot.
Marisa Patel says
oh boy, I wish I could say that I am not a worrier, but sharks are right up there with the alligators and crocodiles for me….and SNAKES!
I love seeing the pics of Nantucket as well as those of our beautiful McKinney!!! Makes me want to get out of the house and go get some of that hot air…haha
Angela says
Yes! I’m with you… crocs and alligators frighten me, too! Thank you for sharing more info about Nantucket. It IS beautiful and I know we’d love to visit! It’s definitely on our list! Thank you for sharing about life on Nantucket!!!
Jamie Beckman says
How often do you wear your weighted vest? Do you think it affects your posture?
Mix and Match Mama says
I wear it more when it’s not cold outside (it’s a little bulky under a jacket, so in the winter, I will wear it inside on my walking pad when I do wear it). I would say at least twice a week. I don’t think it’s positively or negatively affected my posture.

I love your Nantucket summers! Thanks for sharing!

I have a totally random question: what kind of bike do you have? I’m currently using my father in law’s bike (which is actually older than I am) and am in the market for a new one. Your pictures look lovely as always!
Mix and Match Mama says
I legit just had to look out the window to see as I’m not bike savvy and had no idea. It’s a Trek. I went to a bike shop in McKinney and they helped me find one that would be good for both leisure and activity on different surfaces. I like it!
Jen says
Thank you so much!
Kari Miller says
If you could do a day in the life post everyday that would be great! 😜 so fun getting a glimpse into life on Nantucket. Thanks for sharing!!

Hydrangeas are my favorite!🤍💙

My husband and I are heading to Nantucket at the end of August after we drop our son back at college. We have never been before, any tips for getting a reservation at Cru? We are there for three nights, what two other dinner spots should we try to get a reservation at?
Mix and Match Mama says
My tip is that you should try for lunch. It’s hard to get dinner reservations, but lunch is much easier. You can also always walk in and go to one of the two bars for a drink if you just want the Cru experience but can’t get a reservation. Have so much fun!
Cris Farrell says
Thank you!
Robyn says
Hydrangeas are one of my favorite flowers, also. Mine are slowly starting to grow where I live in Wyoming by August they should be in full bloom. I hope you all have a great weekend…I’m off to the mountains.
Lois says
Shay, is your bike an E bike?
Mix and Match Mama says
No, a traditional bike.
Kara says
Random question-Do you know Dayton (or her family) who tried out for Dallas Cowboy Cheerleaders? I am not sure how big McKinney is but couldn’t help but think of you when they mention McKinney as her hometown.
Mix and Match Mama says
I have’t watched this season of the show yet, but I don’t think that I do. I had no idea a McKinney resident was on there?! I need to watch!
Erika Slaughter says
YES! I agree! The crepe myrtles are gorgeous right now but seems like they’re blooming a little late this year?! Either way, I’m enjoying it!
Elizabeth Feldpausch says

I’m so enjoying hearing about Nantucket and the wonderful temps. No 100s yet in McKinney but it’s only a matter of time.
My favorite pizza at Cadillac is the Goat & Fig pizza. Yum!

Love following along with your Nantucket summer!! I’m also reading a book based on Nantucket so makes it extra fun!!
Karen in Virginia says
Shay… In one of the pictures you showed a window box full of gorgeous Flowers. Is that window box yours? Or was it on one of the homes on the island? It’s absolutely beautiful! I am in the DC area and yesterday we had a heat index of 105°! So jealous of your weather. 65 to 70° in my opinion is perfect!
Mix and Match Mama says
That was one of my window boxes! I love them 🙂 .
Bren says
I love hydrangeas so much and the flowers in McKinney are gorgeous too! So much summer beauty in this post! As always, loving following along with your Nantucket summer!
Carolyn says
Hi Shay! I’m loving your Nantucket pics and also your brown hair! ☺️ I’m curious – do you ever cruise around on your red Vespa??
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t drive it. Andrew does by himself or sometimes, I’ll go on it with him, but he uses it often.
Annie Lieberman says
How did the sailing go?! I grew up sailing on the east coast and wish my kids were learning, but where we live in Southern California is not conducive to it. Are they teaching them on optimists? Cutest boats.
Mix and Match Mama says
She loves it! She and Ashby are going to both continue doing it this summer. I don’t know what an optimist is? They’re teaching them on small sail boats.
Kathleen says
Love your Nantucket content from a fellow Southlake, TX fan – especially as we leave next week for our trip to Martha’s Vineyard and Nantucket! We used your recommendation for hotels – Winnetu & Nantucket Hotel…now we just need plan our days! Would also enjoy a “Day in the Life” or even “A day as a tourist” from a seasonal local.
Mix and Match Mama says
You are going to have the BEST time!! You will love it! Great post idea!! I can do that!
Laura Holmes says
Can’t wait to be on the island this summer also! 3 weeks and counting!!!
