Happy Friday, friends!
You guys…we have warm weather and sunny skies in our forecast. I. Am. So. Excited.
I remember being young and having so many great things to look forward to each weekend…you know, concerts, trendy new restaurants and lazy mornings with my coffee after sleeping in a bit. Now, I’m over the moon because the weather will be sunny and Smith’s baseball tournament is like five minutes from my house. This is 40, people. 😉
As always, I’m linking up with my friends Andrea and Erika . I hope you all have a wonderful warm and sunshine-y weekend too!!
You guys, I AM FLIPPING OUT…
…Sally Hepworth is coming to McKinney!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Come celebrate New York Times Bestselling author Sally Hepworth who will be meeting and greeting fans, and signing copies of her newest suspense novel, THE YOUNGER WIFE, from 4 to 6 PM at Sharla’s Boutique 109 East Virginia Street, McKinney, TX 75069, on the North side of the Historic Square in Downtown McKinney.
Um, so, not to name drop or anything, but Sally Hepworth and I are friends.
Yes.
How cool is that?
We’ve been friendly over the internet, messaging and social media for years and years, but now, this Australian beauty is about to launch her US book tour and asked me what my thoughts are about her coming to little ole McKinney, TX. (Um, my thoughts are that I’m going to fangirl hardcore, so I hope she’s ready.) She’s coming to visit and I am beyond ecstatic! If you’re local (or can drive down!), come see Sally (and me!) on Thursday, April 14th.
I’m so excited to hug your neck, Sally Hepworth!!!!!
If I had to write down the most popular questions I’ve received over the last 14½ years from readers, without hesitation, I would say that one of the most frequently asked question (maybe THE most frequently asked question) I’ve received is…
…where did you get your yellow Apple watch band.
I’m not joking.
I’ve been asked this question hundreds of times.
I just looked and I *think* I bought mine in 2018 but honestly, it could have been the year before. Out of all of my Apple watches (I’m on my 7th one) and all of my bands (I’ve had about 24)…
…yellow is my very favorite. So, why am I telling you today? Because I just saw that Apple has them out again this year (the first I’ve seen them out in YEARS!), so if you’re one of those people who want one, you better grab it before it’s gone. Please read this: I’ve had at least 5 Apple watches since I bought my yellow band, and it’s worked beautifully with each one. So whether you have the Series 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 or 7…this band will work for you (just buy the size closest to your size). You’re welcome. 😉
Friends, what took me so long to buy a heated lash curler?! My mother-in-law has been telling me for years that these are game-changers, so I finally bought one, and it’s seriously going to be my favorite Amazon purchase of 2022. It arrived right before Hawaii, so I stuck it in my bag. I’m obsessed.
It’s thin, it’s light, it heats up in seconds and it only requires two AAA batteries. It’s so easy to use that I feel very silly to just now be purchasing one. It makes my lashes lift and curl significantly better than the old-fashioned variety. I’m a believer!
So, Andrew and I don’t give each other Christmas gifts, but this year, he surprised me with something that had me laughing for days…
..he put my brand in neon. Bahahahaha!
How fun is that?! I mean…it wasn’t a bag. Bahaha! I’m still laughing now.
I’m creating a very French vibe in my office, but a little hot pink neon was apparently the touch I was missing. I absolutely love it and have so much fun playing around with it (there is a remote to control how bright/dim you want it).
It’s fun, it’s happy, it’s pink…it’s all the things I hope you all think about when you think about Mix & Match Mama.
My sweet hubby had it made off of Etsy at a shop called Manhattan Neons.
Merry Christmas to me 😉 .
Friends, I have a new obsession. I started reallllly listening to podcasts about a year ago and now, I listen all the time (when I run, when I do chores around the house, fold laundry, take a bath, put my makeup on, and drive around by myself). One of my very favorite podcasts is The Simple Sophisticate. She’s a woman about my age whose entire brand is built around making every day and every little thing you do, simpler and more special.
I want to be friends with this woman.
She speaks my love language.
I love looking at each day and finding JOY in the small details (and hopefully you’ve seen me live that here in blog world).
Well, her third book just came out this week, so I decided to buy…
…all three. From food to her garden, traveling, home decor, her dog…seriously, this woman is my soul sister. I’m so excited to dive into all three of her books!
And because it’s Friday and the weather is warm, I thought I’d share this with you again…
…Our Easy Margarita is perfect for the weekend 😉 . See all the steps HERE.
Until Monday, I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Thank you so much for stopping by this week! xx

Shay, Thank you SO much for introducing us to the “The Simple Sophisticate” podcast and blog! I went “straight away” and perused her blog and podcast topics. She truly is a kindred spirit and offers content that is rare to find these days. I’m forwarding her info to multiple friends who share the same philosophy. Thank you for promoting other bloggers like this and “Madame Chic,” Jennifer L. Scott. You introduced me to her and now I receive her lovely and inspiring posts and love to watch her YouTube videos.
One of the Simple Sophisticate podcasts is talking about traveling to Paris during covid. One of my dear friends is having her bachelorette party in Paris this spring… so I think this episode will be so helpful to her.
I love seeing you cheer on other women and supporting other blogs. There is room for everyone at the table. Thank you for sharing your favorite finds. I’ve recommended your blog, podcast and cookbooks to many friends. Happy Friday, Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m so happy you’ve found her! I absolutely love her brand and want her to have continued success. In one way or another, she speaks to my heart daily. I hope she does to you and your friends as well. Happy Friday!

Happy Weekend! It’s going to be gorgeous in South Georgia, and my son’s travel baseball game is only 20 minutes away, so I can relate to how excited that makes a parent.
Mix and Match Mama says
It truly makes me giddy! What? I don’t have to drive an hour or more each way on both Saturday and Sunday?! YES, PLEASE!!!
Shannon Ables says
Thank you Shay for the kind mention of the podcast and all three of the books. ? Tickled to hear you are enjoying the podcast – thank you for your time to tune in. Wishing you a wonderful spring weekend. Bonne journée! ☺️

So exciting!! Can you please send Sally Hepworth to Austin after McKinney?! She’s my absolute favorite. ❤️
Leah says
I have stick-straight hair and eyelashes, so I’ve been heating up my lash curler with my blow dryer for years!! It’s such a little thing, but it really makes a difference!
Sarah says
I don’t even use a regular lash curler but I’m so intrigued by this heated version! I feel like you need to do a demo! Lol
Shannon says
1. A Sally Hepworth book would be a great book club read.
2. Sally Hepworth would be a great first “guest” interview on your podcast.
Brenda says
I was thinking this too! Would love to hear more about Sally in your podcast, Shay!
I ran as fast as I could to order the yellow band = so excited – thanks for sharing!
Cali says
Love Friday Favorites, thanks for the podcast recco and YES I do want that watch band! And your cute uggs slippers although they would not look as cute on me I am certain.
As for the heated eyelash curler… I run a lighter over the top metal piece of my shiseido curler to heat it up, wipe with a tissue and this works like a charm for me….been doing it for years!
Patty says
I would have bet money that your number one fan question would be “will you please show us your closet?” Guess I’ll stay away from Vegas, lol.
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahahahaha! That would be in the top 5 but it’s not #1!
Kim says
Have you read The Younger Wife yet? Just wondering if I should add it to my TBR list!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t, but I’m going to read it really soon!
Carly says
Comment and piece of advise. Using eye lash curlers since 16, favorites are Tarte and Japanese Shiseido. A number of years ago I thought the perfect answer to an eye lash curler was the heated version. At first it was great but I soon learned the heated version takes a toll on the eye lashes and they start falling our and getting sparse, by time I stopped I had lost almost all my lashes from using it. Ever one I know who tried heated version had same problem. So be really careful because I used it appropriately. Great podcasts to try Just B with Bethany Frankel and Two T’s in a Pod by Teddi Mellencamp. Bethany’s is a mix of interesting topics. She has raised and distributed over 100 million dollars for Ukraine emergency relief thru her non profit BStrong, brilliant business woman.
Alison says
That is so exciting about Sally Hepworth! I wish I lived closer. It is a pretty long drive from Georgia to McKinney. 😉
Hope your weekend is warm!
Kaitlin says
Hi Shay! Happy Friday! Next month I am taking a quick trip to Fort Worth, and have one free day (a Friday yet!). Any tips on what I should do?! I’m traveling alone but hoping for fun. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
You should for sure eat lunch or dinner at Joe T. Garcia’s (bring cash!). If you have time, hop over to Southlake and visit their town square too!
