Happy birthday, Ashby!


You guys, today is our sweet Ashby London’s 11th birthday!

Eeeeeeks!

Oh my goodness, where did this sweet baby go?!  She’s now a legit TWEEN!

I mean, eleven.  SHE’S NOW ELEVEN!

Gracious, it goes by quickly.

Listen, we all love to celebrate one another in our family, but without a doubt, we all love spoiling Ashby THE MOST! Today might be June 9th, her 11th birthday, but we have been celebrating our sweet girl for weeks.  Before we left for Nantucket, she had a birthday party with friends at our house (pics below), she enjoyed a fabulous trip to Florida with my mom and dad (where more spoiling ensued), last night, we ate dinner at her favorite restaurant on Nantucket…Cru, and today, we have declared it Ashby Day with more fun ahead (and more good food too!).

We love this girl so very much.  While we celebrate her today and acknowledge this as her birthday, truly only a handful of people know when this sweet girl was actually born…God and her birth family.  Whether today is the day or maybe it was yesterday or tomorrow or some other time, whenever that day falls, my heart aches for a mom who loved this sweet girl so much that she brought her into this world and for whatever reason felt the best decision for her would be to raised elsewhere.  I truly cannot even imagine.  I think about and pray for my girls’ birth mamas every day, but on days like today, I think about them extra.  We are so blessed to call her our own and to celebrate today and all of her other days.  Speaking of which…

…we celebrated Ashby BIG TIME before leaving McKinney!

Ashby wanted a “game truck birthday party”, so we made that happen.  Truly, it was the EASIEST and most amazing party I’ve ever thrown.  I told the other three kids from here on out, they all get game truck birthdays and nothing else.  (Side note: my almost fifteen year old daughter did not find my joke amusing…ha!)

Why was the party so delightful?  Well, the game truck showed up, all of the excited friends went inside, Andrew and I sat on the driveway and chatted, the kids had an amazing time and barely came out, the party was over.  The end.  Bless the game truck.

Ashby was very specific about her birthday menu this time.  She wanted Chick-fil-a nuggets, chips and a mint chocolate chip ice cream cake.

Yes, yes and yes!

I mean, who doesn’t want a nugget and chips?!

Because Ashby is the sweetest, she included her littlest sister and favorite littlest friend too 🙂 .

We had such a great time!  Sweet friends, yummy food, and a game truck of fun 🙂 .

We love our sweet Ashby more than words can describe! We are so thankful for our girl and are excited to celebrate her even more today.  Happy Friday, friends!  Don’t forget, I’ll see you all back here TOMORROW too! xx

    We loved the game truck birthday party stage. We invited the parents to stay and eat food and have a beverage with us while the kids were in the game truck. It was perfection.

      We’re only a few days in, but we have plans. We’ll see how the summer unfolds. We’re trying to be open about opportunities that present themselves instead of only focusing on what we “think” we should do. I guess we’ll see?!

    I understand if this is too personal so if you don’t respond I completely get it.

    Ashby undergoes a lot of surgeries like a warrior. Can you share exactly what the surgeries are doing for her arm? Meaning are they opening veins helping with blood flow removing things etc.

    Also, what is the prognosis for her future? How much mobilty does she currently have? Again if this is to personal please accept my apologies for being curious.

      Well, I can only assume you’re asking because you care for her, and that means the world to me. Her surgeries aren’t always the same/for the same reasons, but they’re all pretty much for maintenance to keep her healthy and safe. Whether one surgery is to actually remove veins or maybe one is to remove an aneurysm or blood clot, and then some are to remove lymphatic tissue that might be causing issues…really, there’s a variety of reasons. She also gets operated on different areas of her body. Sometimes it’s just the hand, or the wrist, or the elbow or her chest or even her back. This last surgery was her wrist and chest. I try really hard not to think about long term as I’m very hopeful for medical interventions that have yet to be created, so we’ll see. Ashby’s condition will be a life long journey. We covet your prayers!
