Happy S-A-T-U-R-D-A-Y, friends!
I had SO MANY of you reach out and let me know that you loved the SUMMER SATURDAY posts, and that you would like to see more this fall and holiday season too…so, HERE WE ARE!!
Between now and the end of the year, I will be posting these bonus Saturday posts each week with different/fun/original content that you will only see here. The format will be the same as it was over the summer. The prompts will change a bit, but the rhythm will stay the same. This will also be the only place for you to see real time pics and details from any *extra* fun activities and/or trips happening this season too, so make sure you grab your pumpkin spice latte, cozy up in your favorite blanket, flip on When Harry Met Sally and check out this post every Saturday morning before heading over to my Pinterest account (and you will WANT TO HEAD THERE this fall/holiday season too because friends, “pinning” is the only thing in life I do really, really well 😉 ).
Yesterday, the kiddos were home from school for a four-day weekend, so Andrew and I decided to head to Dallas with the littles and treat them to a special lunch. These two love any reason to get dressed up and have a fancy meal (and by fancy, I mean that they were both allowed to order Shirley Temples 😉 ). Geez, I love these three!
Where are we? Highland Park in Dallas!
You’ve seen me post a million pics of this amazing little village (right in the heart of Dallas), but typically, it looks like…
Whether you go during the holiday season (the lights are BRILLIANT!) or any other time of the year, it’s always a good spot to visit.
So, that was our yesterday afternoon, now look at this goodness…
We were heading out to Kensington’s freshman football game on Wednesday and Mades came down in Ashby’s Halloween costume from 2021 (pic below). Kensington and her friends were TOO sweet to her when we arrived. She had so much fun wearing her Bronco outfit that she wore it the very next night to the varsity game too 🙂 . Those smiles on my biggest and littlest just melts this mama’s heart.
From 2021…I just could not love this picture more!
Speaking of Halloween…
Woohoo! Our inflatable was a HUGE HIT last year and guess what? They have an updated version of The Sanderson Sisters out this year too 😉 . )
Anyone else already watched Hocus Pocus? My littles had it on last night after dinner. That movie never gets old.
Who am I and what is happening?
You guys, I’m about to start watching and paying attention to a lot of football because my bestie has our entire office playing Fantasy Football together this season.
If you have played before and have any tips, please share! I have zero clue what I’m doing. All I know is that I’m out of my league but already excited about this season!
When Mades and I were at the hospital last week, our very sweet nurse and I started talking, and she told me this was her favorite parenting book. The author also has a podcast which I started listening to immediately, and I bought the book. Without a doubt, I would say that parenting teens has been the most challenging part of parenting thus far for us. I really can’t even tell you why (as I think we have pretty great kids). It’s just been different/we’ve felt less prepared…I don’t know, they’re like bigger humans now with all of these new emotions, and if there are books out there to give me advice/encourage me, I’ll take it.
Whoop! Whoop! It’s LABOR DAY SALE time for my favorite skincare line! Guess what I bought?! For the first time ever, I purchased their HAIR CARE! About a month ago, I decided to try their TRAVEL ESSENTIALS KIT and well, I truly loved it so much that just yesterday with this sale, I bought the SHAMPOO, CONDITIONER, LEAVE IN TREATMENT, and the SERUM. My total went from $124 to $99 for all four! Now is a great time to try Colleen Rothschild if you’ve always been curious but never shopped before. It’s the only skincare I use!
Speaking of sales…
There are so many GREAT sales happening this weekend!
I rounded up a few cute outfits for you to see…
So cute, right?! AND ON SALE!!
Whether I’m headed to a girls night or date night, I loved THIS OUTFIT for fall with the yummy neutral layers. So many of the pieces will work with jeans for a more causal look too!
I am living in outfits like this right now! From the gym to walking my dogs, running errands and working from home, THIS OUTFIT checks all of my “cute yet pulled together” boxes!
THIS OUTFIT would be perfect for my casual weekdays in September or running weekend errands. Pulled together yet comfy and super cute!
We love Walt Disney World year around, but geez, do we especially love it during the fall and holiday season!
If you are like me and love Disney World AND all things fall, now is the time to go!!!
It’s the perfect combination 🙂 .
We would love to help you get to Walt Disney World this year or even next year too! Contact our office for more information on our magical Disney vacations.
Well, this was an easy purchase for me. You guys, it’s delish! Add to cart and then add to coffee stat!
That wraps up our first ‘TIS THE SEASON SATURDAY!
Don’t forget…

So true re: teens, even with awesome kids. Just different and harder (but so fun too). Good luck!! End of HS kicks up a notch too. Enjoy them, as then they leave in a flash (for college) 😩.

Have the best long weekend! Enjoy the weather!

Love Centered Parenting by Crystal Paine and Raising Emotionally Strong Boys by David Thomas have been game changers in my parenting teens! I have 6 kiddos but I’m interested thick of teens and toddlers at the same time and they are both their own kind of hard. One is physically exhausting and one is mentally exhausting. I think I pray even more now than ever 😊
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for sharing these too, Joy! You are SO RIGHT!
Nicole says
You are such a happy place!! I’m back with a super random question, but when you went out on a special lunch like that, did you order a cocktail? Haha, thanks Shay!! Happy September!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I did have an espresso martini! I normally never drink at lunch, but since we were being “fancy”, I enjoyed one.
Nicole says
Love that!! I’m also super curious if you’re by the pool during the weekend, what would be your go to drink? Do you guys ever do that? Thanks Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
Something easy like a Ranch Water (tequila, soda and lime juice!).

I’ve been playing Fantasy Football for 11 years- my first season I was CLUELESS but won our office league (against a bunch of guys) because all I did was play the highest projected players and never cared too much. Ever since I started caring and trying, I’ve gotten worse and worse lol! So my advice is to play the numbers and don’t overthink it. Have fun!
Heather says
Thanks for the book and podcast info! Going to check it out! 😅 💙

Love the bonus posts! So fun that you’re playing fantasy football as a group! We’ve done that in our family for years. My son has actually started a site dedicated to it. If you’re interested, you can follow him @ffringfactory on Instagram. I hope you don’t mind me suggesting it. As you know, I’m a long time follower, so i hope you don’t think I’m just promoting him. But, he has great insight! A mom’s pride showing through for sure! 😊
Mix and Match Mama says
I will certainly check it out, Laura!! Thank YOU for sharing!

I was just discussing parenting with my two pregnant daughters this morning and the absolute need for God’s grace every step of the way! If we stay close to Him, He covers the many flaws we have as humans. I’m in awe and humbled by how He did that in our parenting, in every season…
Also, funny comment: When Harry Met Sally is our favorite New Years Eve movie, since it ends on NYE! We watch it every year! ☺️
Mix and Match Mama says
Amen and amen, Cindi! And we watch Bridget Jones’ Diary as our NYE movie! Do you ever watch that one too?
Cindi Palma says
I know this response is delayed, but I haven’t seen Bridget Jones’ Diary-guess I need to add it to our NYE! 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!!! It’s my favorite movie E-V-E-R. Ever.
Gwen says
Love your Saturday posts, glad you brought them back. 😊 Have a great Labor Day weekend! 🎃 ☕️🌞🍉🌭🍔
Mix and Match Mama says
YAY!!! Thank you, Gwen for the encouragement! xx
Carole says
Ok, fantasy football…I played last year for the first time with a work group, and it was fun! Main tip – make sure you check your lineup each week for players that are injured or have a bye week! I lost some due to that last year. LOL Then just have fun with it!! Love the Saturday posts!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you, Carole!! I’m nervous and excited, agh!
Katie says
I recommend setting a reminder on your phone for Wednesday evenings or Thursday mornings to make sure your line up is up to date. Made it so much easier for this baseball loving gal to remember that I’m responsible for football now 🤣
Beth Knecht says
This is my first year doing Fantasy Football with our family, and I have no clue what I’m doing! I really should start researching before we make our picks on Monday!!
Heather says
My dad’s cousin is the author of that book. He is such a wonderful man and father that I have always looked up to (his siblings are amazing as well).
Have a wonderful weekend. ❤️
Mix and Match Mama says
No way?! That’s fabulous! I’ve enjoyed the book and podcast so much!

As a mom of 4 teens Dr. Wilgus’s book is my very parenting teen’s book. His weekly podcast is really good and I highly recommend you go back and listen to 3 years worth of recordings. Such wise advice. Dr Wilgus lives in your area and has in the past done one-day workshops at churches.
Anna says
I highly recommend the parenting teens book written by Lisa Damour – ‘Untangled’ about parenting teen girls was a major game changer for me – you will want your highlighter and post it notes while you read it! She also posts on Insta and is a good one to follow. What works when they were little does not work in middle school and what works in middle school does not work in high school and college is a whole different ball game altogether – such wonderful relationships wait on the other side of it all!
On another note – I would love and appreciate a post on using Pinterest effectively! Trying to get a better handle on my recipes and not having much luck. Thank you!

I absolutely loved the extra Summer content and am so happy to hear there will be more for Fall too-yay! Me and my whole family (including three teens!) LOVED your summer Spotify mix too. If you ever decide to make a Fall playlist I would be so excited for it! I listen to Steve Tyrell radio all the time, but a fall mix from you would be amazzzzing. Hope you enjoy the long weekend with family!
M says
I just downloaded that book, thanks! We are same stage as you with 4 kids and yes, even our incredible teens are still baffling to raise at times :). I have another must read for you- The Emotional Lives of Teenagers by Lisa Damour. It really changed my perspective on so much of what I thought I knew about teens and what I assumed constituted “good” mental health. Highly recommend!

I’d love to know what parenting books spoke to your when they were younger ! Love these Saturday post !

I loved the surprise Saturday post, too! 🙂
I know absolutely nothing about fantasy football but… if you end up liking it, maybe you and Erika could start a league for all your readers to join next fall? Is that how it works – is that a thing you could share a link to? Clearly I don’t know what I’m talking about haha
Also, curious if the podcast will come back! TOTALLY understand if not, but it was my happy place during the commute on Tuesdays 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I love that idea! And you are so sweet. Right now, we are trying to enjoy our fall and not adding one more thing to our plate. I don’t know when/if it will be back.
Kimbrough says
Mades at the hospital? Did I miss something? Hope all is well.
Mix and Match Mama says
She had some testing done, but she’s fine. It was a long day, but the testing was fine 🙂 .

I love the Saturday posts! I found that book last year after hearing Ken Wilgus on a podcast. I read the book and binged listened to all the podcasts. It has helped us so much!
SS says
Ohmigoodness, I love that book – Feeding the hand that bites you. I don’t agree with him on all the freedoms at the ages he does, but totally agree with the idea/concept of these people won’t be under my roof in the pretty near future, so I need to equip and allow them to make their own decisions within reason. The entire beginning part about how we infantilize our youth today and expect so little of them and created this new phase “adolescence” – so true! And I love the marker of age 13 for that being when letting them make a lot of those decisions and we council them. Also, very pro-natural consequences as he is. I’m only 2/3 through – listening through it, but it really changed my perspective on a lot of things. Our kids are similar ages to your kids. 13, 11 & 10.
Nicole says
Hi! We also love Dr Ken’s book! Our oldest is 14 and the book/podcast have been most helpful! So happy you discovered him too! I find myself having to listen and reread many of the phrasing… to retrain my thoughts, as these teenage years are NOT intuitive. These years have been the hardest for us too.. prayers! 🙂
