Happy Tuesday!
I’m sharing THREE POSTS today, so hopefully, you’ll find something to love as they’re all very different
I have one of THE MOST POPULAR RECIPES EVER here on my blog. It’s easy, it’s delicious, and it’s exactly what a winter week needs.
I also have EASY WAYS TO ADD COZY TO YOUR WINTER, so if you’re looking for little ways to make your day a bit cozier, there you go.
Here on this post though, I am super, super excited because this year, I have read several great books on health and wellness (I will sprinkle them in as often as I can, don’t worry!), but this one here is MY ABSOLUTE FAVORITE…
…Outlive by Peter Attia.
You guys, I will be reviewing Outlive by Peter Attia on this month’s JANUARY BOOK REVIEW (because I read it end of December/beginning of January), but in the meantime, I wanted to share it with you all because if you’re looking to really make some changes in 2024 with your own health and wellness, I personally cannot recommend another book more.
I first started hearing about this book on podcasts I was listening to last year (people were mentioning it, giving it high praise), but it wasn’t until mid-December when I saw my own amazing hormone replacement therapy physician put this on his Facebook that I actually bought it…
I took this message to heart and immediately purchased Outlive…
…and I DEVOURED IT!
Not only that, but I started listening to Peter Attia’s podcast (I even paid the annual fee so that I could have access to his “member only” content), and truly, I’ve learned more in the last month than I did in all of 2023.
So, I hope many of you who are on the same road as me pick this book up. It’s quite detailed and thorough but written for the lay person, so it’s filled with information we can actually understand clearly and apply to our own lives.
I hope you all enjoy it! I will give it an official review at the end of the month on our January Book Review.
Okay, I’m off! Have a warm and cozy Tuesday! xx
Erika Slaughter says
Too funny! I bought this when he shared on FB too but o haven’t read it yet!
Katherine Darlington says
I will certainly get this book! Have you read Kelly Noonan Gore’s book Health? There is also a documentary of the same name! I recommend it!
Elspeth says
Sounds fascinating! I’ll have to give it a try!

I’ve been so curious about this book! I’d love to hear your takeaways and how you’re applying what you’ve learned into your daily life. I’m nervous to hear his thoughts on caffeine LOL
Kimbrough says
Isn’t another phrase for anti- aging “pro dead?” I am sick of people making me feel like I shouldn’t be a 41 year old woman when in fact I AM a 41 year old woman. As a nurse I have zipped enough body bags I’m grateful for every day I’m blessed to live. Gossett out, for good.
Mix and Match Mama says
I cannot even imagine what it’s like to be a nurse. I don’t want to be younger, I want to feel the very best I can and live independently and cognitively healthy as long as I can no matter the age. I’m “pro” that. I’ve seen my grandparents do it really, really well, and I want that for myself too.
Kimbrough says
My friend to me to back to read your reply (hi, STK!)— THAT makes more sense to me than anything else said previously.
Mix and Match Mama says
I think you would REALLY like the book especially as someone who is a clinician.
Becky says
The book and Peter Attia’s philosophy isn’t so much about living longer but about making your later years more active or increasing your “healthspan” not just your lifespan.
Andrea Conrad says
Shay, I just started reading this book 2 days ago & it is AMAZING! I’m not a huge reader, nor do I love books with a lot of little details (that are probably way over my head) but this author does such a great job of explaining things without getting too “technical”. I am 49 years old & I wish I’d read this book much sooner. Truly life changing (and I’m only on Chapter 4!) I can’t wait to read more about his personal experiences with health & wellness (I am still laughing at his wife’s comment about how maybe he needs to stop being so “un-thin” 😂
Katrina Goodman says
Just ordered Outlive. I am on my own sort of wellness journey right now as well. I finished Last Love Note a couple days ago, too!
Kit says
Shay! I asked for this book for Christmas after you posted about it, it is AMAZING!!! Thank you thank you!! My husband is excited to dive into it too 🙂 Thank you truly for the daily inspiration and joy!!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I got this book after you posted about it on stories (I think?) back in December. I’m finishing up another book and then will pick this one up to read! Can’t wait!

Love Peter Attia! I would also highly recommend Dr. Mindy Pelz. She focuses on fasting for woman. I had no idea us ladies needed to be so careful on when we fast during our cycle. It can really impact our hormones if not timed correctly. Her book Fast Like a Girl is great and she last year she published The Menopause Reset.
Erin Hernandez says
Yes, I agree, if you like Peter Attia, you might like Mindy as well! And Jason Fung too!
Mix and Match Mama says
I LOVE Jason Fung!
Stacy says
I bought this awhile ago and have yet to pick it up ! I think I’ll start it!
Polly says
My favorite book I read in 2023. I read/listened to it twice. Very eye opening. I also highly recommend!!!
Becky B says
I have spent the last year listening to Peter Attila’s Podcasts, so much great content for living healthier.
Stephanie says
AGREE!! Love the book and podcast. If this wasn’t the book you loved, I came to recommend it. Should be required reading!
Laura says
I bought this book last May after hearing so many great things about it and promptly forgot about it. I’m leaving on vacation this week and was planning on reading it on the airplane. Thanks for reminding me. I look forward to getting into it.
Em says
One of my 2024 goals is to read and apply this book alongside my husband! Glad to know you’ve found it helpful!!
Valerie Allen says
I love the Huberman podcast! He always has such wonderful guests and content. Thank you for the book recommendation and I plan on getting a copy as soon as possible. It’s interesting that I just saw the YT video with this Dr. yesterday. Another doctor I love the content from is Dr. Mary Claire Haver who is the creator of the Galveston Diet. She is an Ob/Gyn that has changed her practice to concentrate on treating when in menopause, and her content is fabulous!
Heather S says
🏃🏼♀️ Actual depiction of me running to buy this book! So sick and tired of feeling sick and tired! We and our children deserve better. Let’s all live to 100!
Mix and Match Mama says
Amen!!
Andrea says
We are huge fans of Peter Attia! We have learned so much from listening to his podcasts and reading his book. It’s truly been life changing! My sister in law is having heart issues and just met with a cardiologist who asked her if she had ever heard of Peter Attia and was recommending specific podcasts of his on heart health. We had already sent her the podcasts to listen to and told her all about him, but it’s definitely a huge endorsement of Peter to have top doctors recommending him!
Jessie Hyde says
I’m almost done with this book and completely agree-it’s gold!!!!!! I also just completed my first fast last week and feel soo good. Highly recommend. The author of this book did an episode on fasting on the Disney + series Limitless. I’ve learned so much from him!
Chrys says
I just used Libby to put a hold on the audio book at my public library. Can’t wait to dive into it once it becomes available! Thanks Shay!
Paula R. says
Thanks for being led by the Spirit and being obedient to head down this new path of wellness. Its obvious with over 250 comments on your original post that it resonates with so many women. I’m dealing with various Physical issues at 53 and it’s a wake up call to me to take action to ensure I have the healthiest, most active life possible.
I reserved this book at the library and I’m 117 on hold, ha! Very popular. I would also highly suggest Dr. Mindy Peltz resources and Dr. Mary Claire Haver.
Thank you for taking this leap of faith and bringing us along for the ride.
Allison says
Very well said!!
Chris says
Shay I love that you are sharing this content with us this year. I am on a health journey of my own and enjoy getting insight from other women.
Beverly says
What have you found helpful and what have you tried and how has it made a difference in your health. Just ordered it, hope it’s not too late to make a difference I’m 70, but my brain thinks I’m 25.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m going to do a full review on my book review at the end of the month, but I don’t think there is ever a time when it’s too late. I was just listening to his podcast in the car today, and he was talking about an Australian study of women (I believe he said they were all in their 70s) and what incredible results they all had just by adding strength to their daily routine. I really think you’ll find it very beneficial!!
Sara says
I gifted this to my husband for Christmas and can’t wait to read it once he’s finished!!
Allison says
Ordered! Can’t wait to read it. Thank you for the rec!
Carrie says
I am almost exclusively a Kindle person, but I know there are some books that “read” better in physical form. What version would you recommend?
Mix and Match Mama says
I am too, Carrie, but I bought the hardback book and am so happy that I did. You will return to it over and over again as a reference guide. Plus, you can make notes/mark pages too.
Sharon says
Would you recommend listening to this or reading the actual hard cover book? I normally do non-fiction as audible but read everything else on my kindle. So should I 1) listen, 2) kindle or 3) buy the real thing. I am thinking buy the real thing so I can reference stuff and go back and forth?
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought the actual book (and you know how much I love my Kindle!) because it’s not just a “one read” book. I have already returned to it over and over again like a reference book. My rec would be to buy the actual book.
Carrie @ Curly Crafty Mom says
I just added this book to my to read list! It may skip to the front of it! Ha, ha! I’m also excited to check out his podcast. I am curious, do you have any books to recommend on peri or nearing menopause for those of us in our forties or mid to late forties and feel clueless about it?

Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!! I will be sharing those coming soon! This is SUCH an important topic to me.
Courtney C says
I’m *almost* done reading Why We Get Sick by Dr. Benjamin Bikman. It is 👀 👀 👀 opening to say the least. Just added this one to my cart to continue my “healthspan” journey.
Mix and Match Mama says
That book is on my “to read” list!!!
Laura JeanS. says
I think you mentioned this book last month, so I bought it for myself and step-dad for Christmas. I’m sooo excited that you are going down this health journey!! I love this topic, and as a 50 year old, I know it’s time to start making changes. My hubby and I are so “normal” in our bad habits, (not enough exercise, eating processed foods, stressed etc.), and I think you have to be a little UN- normal to have the best life 😉 I can’t wait to talk more about this topic on your blog! I need your can-do spirit to get my lazy butt off the couch! HAAA!!!
Julie says
I am very interested in this book and what you took from it! A life changing book for me was How Not to Die. I highly recommend.
Roberta says
I bought this book last summer. I can’t recommend it enough.
Emily says
I can’t wait for you to share more details! I am looking forward to following along. I just finished listening to this book. Loved! 💞
Emily says
I read this post the day it went live. I am just finishing the book now. I am LOVING your tidbits of health items this year. I can’t wait for more! Thank you!
