Happy happy Monday, friends!
I hope you all had a great weekend!
Don’t forget, if you missed my seasonal Saturday post, make sure you go back and check that out. I include content there that you won’t catch elsewhere including…a TV series I’m unfortunately not as into as I wanted to be…boo.
Today, I broke down “my hair routine” in easy steps for you. I’ve recently had some of you ask for an updated “how to” now that my hair is longer, so here you go 🙂 .
This is how I “typically” do my hair…
Here we go, time to wash my hair! I prefer to let my hair air dry either over night or during the day. On this particular day, I showered and washed my hair during the day.
I took this photo in my steamy shower (as you can see). I use THIS SHAMPOO and THIS CONDITIONER every single time I wash. Don’t forget, you can get them both 20% off with code Shay20!
My hair is washed, wrapped in my FAVORITE HAIR TOWEL and now, it’s time to…
…spray it with my FAVORITE LEAVE IN CONDITIONER/TANGLE SPRAY. All of the ladies in our house use this to easily comb out tangles after every wash.
I always comb through my hair with a wide pick and not a brush. I find it’s gentler on my hair.
All combed out and now…
…I let it air dry while I put on my makeup and then…
…head back to work and continue to allow it to dry as long as I can. I avoid blow drying at all cost as I find it super drying on my hair. Some days, I have to dry it from the start, but I really try to avoid it most of the time.
About two hours later, and I officially need to get ready. My hair is mostly dry, but I do need to dry it just a tad before I can curl…
…I pull out my Dyson dryer which I’ve had for YEARS and dry it completely before curling.
I always use THIS BRUSH when I blow dry my hair.
I also plug in THIS CURLING IRON as well.
My hair is dry, so I pull out my trusty HAIR CLIPS and…
…section off my hair. I curl it in three sections (bottom, middle and top).
I pull out THIS HAIRSPRAY and spray each section after curling.
The bottom section is curled and sprayed…
…the middle section is curled and sprayed…
…and the top section is curled and sprayed. Then, I take that paddle brush and brush through it all and then…
That’s it! I’m done 🙂 .
I typically wash my hair every other day and follow this exact same routine.
If you have any questions, let me know.
Happy happy happy MONDAY! I hope you all have the best day! xx

Love it! I’ll have to try that detangler for my girls ◡̈

Love it! I have had my Dyson hair dryer for years and still love it. Such a great investment! Thanks for sharing!

Looks so easy and natural too! Love it!

Thank you! Your hair always looks great, Shay. I know there’s no one right way to wash/dry/style hair but I like to know how/what others do. I love all the details.
Angela says
Love this, Shay!! Thanks for sharing your routine with us!!! Do you ever use a heat protectant product or any hair oils? Also, you’ve mentioned that you really like the Nutrafol and it has helped your hair so much. Do you still take that supplement? I am really needing help with my hair as it seems to have gotten less thick and full over the past few years due to perimenopause. Love this post, thank you for sharing all of your tips!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do!! I take it every single day and think it has helped my hair SO MUCH! I especially think it’s helped reduce shedding. I use my CR hair serum as my heat protectant many days!
Traci M says
always love a hair update! looks gorgeous! (random- do you use eye liner on top or just bottom?!) using most of the products you mentioned! thanks to you! Have the best Monday!
Mix and Match Mama says
Both!
Melissa says
Your hair is gorgeous! I’m going to need try some of these products.
Stephanie says
Happy Monday! Thanks for sharing, I want to try that leave in conditioner! I agree, I avoid blow drying my hair as much as possible also. Loving the CR shampoo/conditioner because of your recommendation. XO
Addy Robinson says
I love your hair longer!! It is so flattering on you. Have you or Kensington tried any of the “air wrap” tools? I recently got this one and am really loving it!
https://www.nordstrom.com/s/t3-aire-360-ceramic-air-styler-blowout-kit/7911006
Mix and Match Mama says
We both have! Kensington had better luck, but my hair was still wet both times I tried. If you were me, how would you use them? Would you let it air dry longer and keep them in longer? I would love your tips!
Addy Robinson says
Watching YouTube videos is very helpful. Or Instagram reels, check out Kate with The Small Things blog. She is a hair stylist and has several helpful Instagram videos on this specific tool although I think she’s tried all of them.
I “rough” dry with just the drying tool for awhile before using the curl. I think it gives a very ‘Blow Out Bar’ look. It doesn’t hold as tightly or long as a curling iron, but it’s a salon-type blowout look.
Mix and Match Mama says
THANK YOU!!!!!!! Thank you, thank you!
Andrea says
Look great ❤️. How do you like the Dyson? I’ve been debating about getting one.
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought mine in 2017 and still LOVE IT! I haven’t had a single issue with it and feel 100% positive I’ve gotten all of my money out of it.
Whitney says
Curious how often you get your hair colored! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Every 7 weeks 🙂
Katherine says
I have curly hair so I use my diffuser to set my curls, for just a few minutes, and then let it air dry completely. Then I scrunch the cast from my curl cream. I don’t like drying my hair from wet to dry to either. I use the Divi shampoo and conditioner for fine hair, and the Divi leave in conditioner. I love their products!
Sheaffer says
Okay, you need to try the other CR hair products…. like the smooth and shine serum and the styling cream! You would love them!
Elizabeth says
What is your hair wash routine throughout the week? Like how often do you wash it and what do you do the days you don’t wash it (dry shampoo, etc)? You are active throughout the day and so I am just curious. I am always trying to juggle when and how often to wash my hair with my workouts, etc!
Mix and Match Mama says
I typically wash it every other day. In between, if I feel like I need a good “oomph”, I’ll use Dry Bar’s dry shampoo and/or the CR serum to give it some life and make it feel less icky.
Peggy Breland says
I just got my hair cut shorter than I’ve had it in years and having to relearn how to style it!! Thanks for some tips
Headed home from Colorado after accomplishing the hardest physical thing I’ve ever attempted. The Manitou Incline. The adventure was hard but the view was fantastic.
Lynelle says
Cool! The Manitou Incline is on my Bucket List. I really want to do it with my two teenage boys! How tough was it? Did you train? How would you describe your fitness level?
Peggy Breland says
Lynelle. I consider myself pretty fit for my age (69). My husband & I do triathlons so we are always training for something to keep us motivated but I have to admit it was harder than I thought it was going to be. We both finished together in 1 1/2 hrs and we want to do it again next year. We are now looking for a stair master to add to our home gym to help with training. You can do it with knowledge of what to except and don’t be in a hurry to finish. Enjoy the experience
Erin Springer says
Can we get an updated self tanning routine? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well right now, it’s fading fast. Ha! You are seeing the last remnants of my cruise tan.
Carrie Phelps says
Hi Shay!! I have a CR question that’s not hair related (although the travel hair bundle is currently in my cart;)…I want to make sure I’m getting the right facial products for my particular skin type (dry, dryer, and more dry). I’m not seeing a quiz on the site to help guide me in the best direction. Do you have a regime recommendation that may be different from yours, but a good starting point for me ? I’m 45 so definitely factor in anything that helps with aging, and of course, all the moisture.
Mix and Match Mama says
For dry skin, I instantly think about the Vitamin C moisturizer (what I wear every night) and the Radiance Cleansing Balm. My skin leans more dry than oily, and I absolutely LOVE both of those for hydration. Use code Shay20 for 20% off!
Kristy says
I am loving the color lately! Is it a slightly darker blond? Please share your color details.
Mix and Match Mama says
I have no idea what the actual color is called, but I am trying to go more to my natural brown. I just think I’m tired of the blonde maintenance. THANK YOU, thank you! My sweet hair stylist is doing all the work 🙂 .
Dana P says
Your hair is gorgeous, Shay!! I would love to try Nutrafol, but it’s just not in the budget. For anyone else with the same problem, my dermatologist did prescribe oral minoxidil for me and I only take 1/4 of a tiny tablet per day. I’ve been doing it for a while now (almost 2 years maybe?) and I do think it really helped with the thickness of my hair. And it’s suuuuper cheap, especially with only taking 1/4 of a tablet. I’ve had zero side effects too other than thicker hair! I was nervous about taking it just for hair density, but my dermatologist reassured me that it’s such a tiny dose that I really wouldn’t have any issues and she was right. Maybe that could help someone else?
Faith says
Your hair is beautiful! I sometimes want to try to grow it out but I feel like it makes me look older. Maybe I’ll try it again.
Kerry says
Your hair has gotten so long with the Nutrafol. If you haven’t heard of it, Viviscal is another supplement like Nutrafol. It made my hair grow again after so much hair loss due to menopause. I think they are probably comparable in price. My hair is longer than it’s been in about 20 years.
Darcy says
Thank you!!! I am one of the many that asked for an update- I appreciate it! Your hair is so beautiful!
I am just starting the nutrafol and hoping I get great results- curious if your husband takes it too?
I ordered it for my husband and am hoping I can convince him to commit- his hair is starting to thin out a bit and I think this may help him out. Thanks again Shay- what would we do without you?
Mix and Match Mama says
What would I do without YOU?!?!?! Andrew has his own supplement routine…and I should probably break that down at some point because I don’t even know what he’s taking over there.
Stephanie ann Harris says
I am not some global warming/environment fanatic but I recently discovered the app ‘Yuka’ . It deciphers product labels and analyzes the health impact of food products and cosmetics. If nothing else it is interesting to see what products are rated according to environment and what you are consuming or putting on your face or hair is a disrupter, irritant,or allergen. I thought in your quest for health you might find it interesting. 🙂
Cheryl Sandoval says
I find this interesting, I just downloaded the app so thank you!
Sarah says
Does the shampoo and conditioner affect color treated hair? Thank you for the detangler recommendation. My daughter will appreciate it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Not at all!
Diana says
Your hair looks beautiful! Thanks for sharing!
Debbra Weber says
Thank you for the tips! I am loving the CR hair products. Why size curling iron barrel do you use? Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I use the 1.25″ 🙂 .
Holly C says
I just got the CR hair products and loving them!!!
Kathy says
Have you ever tried this hair detangler? It smells like cut-out cookies. It is my favorite.

I have not but it sounds divine!!
Cathy Perez says
Your hair is just lovely!
~B~ says
Jumping in Shay, about the CR cleansing balm. I LOVE that product! Along with that, I love the travel products, but don’t want/need to buy the bag they come in each time. Have you ever tried refilling the little travel jar? I keep hoping they will begin to sell travel sets without the bag (just hate to waste). Thanks so much!
Mix and Match Mama says
I would love that as well!
Blake says
This is great timing because I feel like September marks the beginning of my “wear my hair down season.” I basically only wear my hair up (braids, claw clips, buns) all summer! It’s too hot for anything else and my thick wavy hair doesn’t behave in the heat!
Jeanette says
A simple routine with fantastic results ☺️.
Christa says
Your hair looks so healthy! I took notes and added them to my list of things to try. We have 3 girls, which amounts to A LOT of hair. We are always looking for quality products/methods to try. Thanks for sharing! ❤️
Tina says
so pretty! I miss having long hair. My current meds have caused such thinning that I had to cut it shorter so it could get more volume…less weight pulling it down. BTW, your routine is great but you lost me at the final step…brushing through all those curls. If I brushed through my curls I’d end up a frizzy mess! LOL!
Tish says
Do you curl away from your face or towards your face? Or do you rotate every other curl? So excited for this post!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do a combo! I typically curl away from my face in the front and then go back and forth as I go around.
Julie says
So helpful, and pretty! Trying to grow out my hair right now, and going to jump in the nutrafol thing too. Thank you!
Leah says
What is it you do after working out again ? With your hair? Dry shampoo? Trying to figure out how to not wash my hair as often 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I make do with dry shampoo or a bun. I just cannot wash it every day. I would go mad!
Lyndsey says
How long does this routine take you? Say from the time you start to finish off blow drying it? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Blow drying my hair is one of my least favorite things to do in life (it’s so boring). If my hair is wet from the shower, and I pull out the dryer, it takes probably 10 minutes. If I let it air dry at least an hour or two, it takes about 1 minute.
Marisa Patel says
I am going to give that hairspray a try because my curls fall out as soon as I brush or even just tousle them.
Betsy Green says
Thanks for sharing! Do you not use any other product in your hair when prepping/styling then? Thx!
Mix and Match Mama says
I do not!
Kelsee Polk says
I use the same leave in conditioner. It’s so good!!!
Sarah says
Yay! I got my first order of the shampoo and conditioner!! I can’t wait to try it tonight.
Curious to know if it’s just me but my email subscription with mix and match is sending old, like 2023 blog post, not current day post.
Again super excited to try CR products!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
We had tech issues today, but it should be fixed tomorrow! Sorry about that!!
