You guys, it’s the last week of October, Halloween is this Thursday, and my heart has ALL THE FEELS.
The only thing making me less sad that Halloween is ending is….
…I mean, you know it’s true.
Since this last weekend was the final weekend in October along with my birthday, I thought I’d do one big WEEKEND RECAP for you.
Spoiler alert: it was filled with lots of time with my five favorite humans which was THE BEST part about turning 43.
Here we go…
Thursday night, we headed to the neighboring town to see our freshman Lovejoy Leopards play! That number 55 might be a big defensive end, but he LOVES his mama which is literally like the best thing ever.
On Friday morning…
…Mades was able to go with me to see…
…the McKinney Boyd High pep rally and cheer on her big sister! I can’t think of a better way to spend my birthday morning than with one kiddo cheering on another. It was very, very sweet.
Later that afternoon, Andrew, Ashby, Mades and I drove to Lucas, TX to pick up Smith and two buddies from high school and then the seven of us…
…enjoyed amazing Mexican food before going to…
…the varsity football game. We were playing away and honestly, this school was closer to our house than our actual school, so we very much considered it all a win.
Look who sat in front of me at the game…
…sweet Braiden! I have known this girl since she was in the first grade and for FIVE YEARS while she got her undergrad and graduate degrees from Clemson, she worked remotely for me. Now, she is officially an engineer, and I could not be more proud of her. I love this girl BIG.
I spent the whole evening wedged between my hubby and my bestie outside watching football. If that’s not a great way to spend your birthday, what is?
High school football and a cute defensive end. Forty three feels a lot like 17 did 😉 .
On Saturday, we had a nice day at home catching up on life before we headed to our church’s annual Fall Fest to catch…
…Swedish Fish 🙂 . This year, our family worked the “fishing” station…
…I love seeing that kid back there serve his church. Fall Fest was a HUGE success both indoors and out. We had the best time!
When we were finished…
…we headed to the square for dinner…
…it was a gorgeous night in McKinney.
Yesterday we went to church, did chores, got everyone ready for the week, and then watched football.
That’s your weekend recap! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend too! xx

It sounds like a wonderful birthday weekend! All your loved ones doing all their/your favorite things.
Thanks for sharing. One burning question, did you have a cake?
😉
Mix and Match Mama says
I had a birthday cookie from Mary’s Mountain Cookie on our town square instead 🙂 .

Looks like an amazing Fall-family-filled weekend! I can’t believe it’s already the last weekend in October. I too am sad, but I’m also giddy to put my Christmas tree up! 😉 Have a great week!

Looks like a fantastic weekend! Hope your birthday was one of the best ones yet and wishing you a beautiful year ahead! I’m not mad about Christmas season being right around the corner too 🙂 If you had to rank your favorite major holidays from most to least favorite what would it look like and why? I wonder what everyone else would say too!
Mix and Match Mama says
I feel positive that there is a blog post or podcast about this, but I would say that the MOST important holiday is Easter, but it’s not necessarily my favorite (as in I can’t quite get excited about the decorations/music/etc). My favorite to get pumped about from a “seasonal” perspective is Christmas, Halloween, Thanksgiving and July Fourth 🙂 .
Heather says
My vote is a Top 5 Bottom 5 Holiday addition!
Sheaffer says
That looks like a pretty perfect weekend!!!
Natalie Alvarado says
Looks like you had the perfect fall birthday weekend! 🍁🎃
Jami Romano says
Perfection all around 🙂
Alicia says
Why do your children go to different highschools?
Mix and Match Mama says
Smith was wanting to go somewhere a bit smaller. We looked at several options that were private, but then when we heard that we could do a transfer to this public high school with open enrollment, we looked into it and it was a great fit.
Lisa Elliott says
It sounds like you had the perfect weekend!!
Laci says
The perfect weekend and birthday!

Hope you had an amazing birthday! I spotted Chuy’s food in there! I live in KS but lived in McKinney a couple years and have friends in Plano and Frisco still. I went with those friends to see Taylor Swift in New Orleans (amazing by the way) and when we drove back to Dallas (before I drove the rest of the way to KS), we had to have Chuy’s since I can’t get it in KS. Have a great week!
Mix and Match Mama says
I love me some Chuy’s!! It’s so good! I hope you had the BEST time at the Era’s tour!!!

Erika Slaughter says
What a weekend of football! Man, those were some great games!
Alyssa says
Happy Belated Birthday, Shay! So grateful for your blog and the community you’ve created!! Did I catch that Smith and Andrew play(ed) the same football position?! How fun!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s correct!! Andrew was a defensive end and now, Smith is too 🙂 .
Katie Hahn says
Love this recap! Do the highschools of your two bigs ever play against each other or are they in different sections?
Mix and Match Mama says
They don’t. Kensington goes to a 6A school (so the largest division in Texas) and Smith’s high school is in the smallest 5A division, so they’ll never play each other.
Katie Hahn says
I was going to say.. you would have to have a Mama Kelce moment!
HB says
As a mom who is missing Friday Lights TERRIBLY this year, I love seeing your FNL pics! My son graduated in May and is playing in college now and while college football is cool, there’s nothing as fun about FNL. Enjoy these years and the pep rallies, games, etc. as you blink and they’re gone.
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow! What a HUGE accomplishment playing in college too! Sending YOU so much love! xx
Laura Holmes says
Happy belated birthday!! Sounds like a perfect one to me!
Holly C. says
Love the weekend recap…fall is truly the best, FNL, leaves, fall festivals, pumpkins!!!
Marci P says
What a fun time of year!
Deanna Gemmer says
Hey Shay – Maybe you’ve already answered this and I missed it, but why are your high schoolers at different schools? If this is private information, no worries, just something I’ve been curious about as I’ve been following you and your family for a while now.
Looks like a perfect fall weekend!
Mix and Match Mama says
Smith just wanted to look into other options last year, so we did and landed on this one. It’s a public school that offered open enrollment. It’s a little smaller which he loves!
Deanna Gemmer says
Thanks for sharing! It sounds tough to have high schoolers at two different schools. (It made me SO happy when my two were back at the same school, especially when big sis started driving!) But how cool that your kids get to find a place where each can flourish and thrive.
Jessica Belanger says
Hopefully this Mexican restaurant was better than the one a few weeks ago? haha! It sounds like you had a wonderful weekend…you deserve it! Happy Birthday Shay!
Mix and Match Mama says
MUCH BETTER!!!!!
Deb says
Sounds like an amazing weekend! I am sad October is ending too! Seems like it went so fast this year!

Happy belated birthday, Shay! Wishing you a year ahead filled with God’s light and love!
Brianne says
Sounds like a fabulous weekend! Could you post the link to the necklaces your wearing in your picture? Love the way they layer so well together!
Mix and Match Mama says
I wear the big pendants from Love Shack on Nantucket (the brand is Lola) and then the chains are from Kendra Scott.
Lisa says
What a fun weekend. Happy Birthday!
