Hey, hey, hey!
Guess what?
It’s a THREE POST TUESDAY!
Today, I’m sharing some really great HOLIDAY GIFT GUIDES for everyone on your list (and festive finds for home too!), plus, I have the EASIEST PECAN PIE, and…I’m doing A REVIEW OF MY OURA RING.
That is a lot for one day 🙂 .
This has been the year of HEALTH AND WELLNESS here in our little space, so I’m extra excited about this post here…
…I bought myself an Oura Ring for my 43rd birthday 🙂 .
Many of you probably already own one/know everything about them/have a lot of tips and ideas…which is awesome because that’s why I’m making today PART ONE. Once I have my Oura Ring longer, I will come back and do a PART TWO with more details and specifics but considering it’s the holiday season, I thought I’d go ahead and at least get the ball rolling in case this was on your gifting radar.
Let’s start from the beginning…
…as you know, my name is Shay, and I am OBSESSED with my Apple Watch. I don’t kind of like it, I love it. I have been wearing these watches for almost a decade now and am on my 8th one. I literally put it on before my feet hit the ground each morning and take it off right before I go to sleep at night. I wear it in the shower, in the pool, at the beach…on hot days, cold days, travel days and every single day in between. I used to have two really nice watches and sold them both because I N-E-V-E-R wore them and wore my Apple Watch instead.
As you also know, I have been on this health and wellness journey now for 18-ish months and have listened to hundreds of podcasts episodes on the topic and have read at least a dozen books. This is my new passion in life. Well, on my little journey, I have heard experts bring up the Oura Ring more times than I can count and if I’m being honest, maybe I’ve heard the Apple Watch brought up five times. Everyone seems to be obsessed with the Oura.
So, I filed that info away but didn’t act on it until…
…last month when I went to get bloodwork from my beloved Dr. Riegel and while we were chatting he told me that the single best thing he’s done for himself this year was buy an Oura Ring and that I should get myself one immediately.
With Riegel’s glowing endorsement, I went home and checked them out for the first time online and decided to buy myself one for my birthday.
So, that’s how I ended up with one.
Now, let me walk you through the process…
…when I went online, I selected my Oura Ring finish (I selected gold but as you can see, there are many other options) and paid for my ring. When I was checking out, the website said I would be receiving a box with different rings to try on before selecting my ring size. This above is that said box. It arrived about five days later with 12 different plastic rings for me to put on, wear around, sleep in, walk in, etc. I thought this was SUPER IMPORTANT because unlike an Apple Watch, one size does not fit all.
It is recommended by Oura that you wear your ring on your pointer finger but you can also wear it on your middle or ring fingers too. I decided after trying them on and wearing them in my daily life that I would go with the pointer finger and that the size 9 was the best fit for me. After selecting that, I went back to my Oura account online, submitted my size as a 9 and in less than a week my actual ring showed up…
…awwwww! My new ring!
Here it is in the box. It arrived while we were in Finland, so I didn’t open it until this last Friday and as you can imagine, this…
…made me smile 🙂 .
It arrived charged, with simple instructions and ready to go.
At this point, I downloaded the app, selected my membership option ($69.99 a year or $5.99 a month), activated my ring via the app and put it on.
Here it is!
I wanted you to see how thick/thin it is as well.
Truly, it was as easy as that.
Now, what does an Oura Ring do exactly?
Well truthfully, I’m still learning, but I *believe* it’s most well known for tracking your sleep quality (something I was never able to do with my Apple Watch because I needed it to charge at night while I was sleeping), but it does measure many many other metrics and provide an abundance of data. I’m just now sorting through/learning all of the nuances of this ring which is why today is a PART ONE.
I started wearing my ring on Friday late afternoon, so my first round of data didn’t appear until Saturday morning. I took some screenshots for you…
As you can see, based on only wearing it about 13 hours, it was able to track a little activity, but it had a plethora of info about my sleep Friday night.
I slept 7 hours and 39 minutes, it has the exact times I went to bed and then got out of bed along with my heartrate data too.
This screenshot was just to show you that you can tap on every single metric to pull up more info so you know what you’re looking at on the app.
The screenshot shows my sleep data (so I can click on any of those descriptions there for more info). I learned that “latency” means how long it takes you to fall asleep. My Latency score was pink/lower because it only took me two minutes to fall asleep which means I was way too exhausted (hello, jet lag!). Isn’t that interesting?
Here are a few more screens just so you can “nerd out” along with me 🙂 …
So, this data above is based on my sleep Friday night.
On Saturday morning, I went and walked with a neighbor and took screenshots of that data too…
There was also a screen that showed a map of exactly where I walked/my pace/the distance/etc…but I’m not sure that the internet needs to see my exact favorite trail, so I am leaving that off 😉 . It’s great info though that you might like if you walk/run/cycle as well.
On Sunday morning, I took more screenshots for you based on Saturday night’s sleep…
So, there you go! I am only four full days into wearing my ring, but so far, I’m very, very intrigued by this information and digging deeper into how I can utilize it to help my overall health.
I shared THIS POST in February but sleep has always been the hardest thing for me to “change” in bettering my health and wellness. I’ve always been able to function well on little sleep, so why sleep when you can live more life? That has ALWAYS been my philosophy, and it has ALWAYS been wrong. Sleep is the lowest hanging fruit on the health and wellness journey, and I had been foolishly ignoring it. We all need sleep for rest and recovery, brain health, metabolic health, mental clarity, emotional wellbeing…the list is long. I have really made an effort this year (and whether he wants to admit it or not, Andrew Shull has too!) to get more sleep, and I truly CANNOT tell you how much better I feel. I didn’t even know I could feel better/needed to feel better but dang, I feel so much better right now in my life just getting more sleep.
So, that wraps up PART ONE. I promise to come back in 2025 after I’ve had my ring longer and share more. Right now though, if you have an Oura Ring, PLEASE SHARE YOUR TIPS, TRICKS AND THOUGHTS!! I want to know please!!!
Now before you head off today, don’t forget to check out MY GREAT GIFT GUIDES and MY EASY PECAN PIE too!
Happy and healthy Tuesday, friends! xx

This is all so interesting. I’ll be interested to hear more!

I’m super intrigued about the ring and the benefits! Thanks for your post! Looking forward to your next review!

Jess says
How do you like the fit of the ring? Does it feel bulky? I wish they were slimmer! This has been on my radar for quite sometime! Can’t wait to hear a part two to see if this is something I should invest in!
Mix and Match Mama says
I was concerned about that because I like to work with my jewelry off (when I’m typing and writing at my desk). Occasionally, I’ll wear my wedding rings, but I almost always remove them and set them next to me. I took my Oura ring off once yesterday while I was typing just to give myself a little break, but honestly, I didn’t notice it nearly as much as I thought I would. When I’m not at my desk, I don’t notice it at all.
Alicia says
I’ve had my ring for 3 years now and love it. It is really great when tracking your cycle, it will tell you when your body temp is up, if it is due to your cycle and so forth. You can tag when you start your period and it will track that as well. It usually tells me when my heart rate is high, if I am having a high stress day and you can tag reasons if you want for future references. (My high heart rate is usually at a child’s sporting event. Ha!)
I have an Apple Watch and find that my ring has about 1,000+ more logged steps than my watch. However, I wear my ring on my dominant right hand and my watch on my left so that could be the factor.
Overall, I would pick my oura ring over my watch every single time.
Their customer service has been amazing. I have had them replace my ring, free of charge, when it wasn’t charging correctly and they have been very helpful.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank you for all of this info, Alicia!! I am so so grateful!
Debbie says
I read in bed for an hour or so every night. Would that negatively impact my score?
Kelly says
I just bought an Oura ring on the October Amazon Prime day so I haven’t had it long, but it somehow knows when I settle down to actually go to sleep and doesn’t count the earlier time in bed
Peyton Cline says
My brother is a health buff like you and got an Oura ring a few years ago. It kept saying his heart rate was “off” at night and to contact his Dr. He actually thought it was a glitch and had his ring replaced twice before giving up and scheduling an appointment with his doctor. Come to find out he had atrial flutter when he laid down at night that would have gone unnoticed if it wouldn’t have been for his Oura ring! It quite literally could have saved his life! And he is a super healthy 44 year old! I can’t say enough good things about it!
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow! That is unbelievable!
Amanda Taylor says
AMAZING thanks for sharing!
Lisa N says
Amazing that little (big) ring can do all that. Just curious …..doesn’t your sleep number bed give you similar info?
Mix and Match Mama says
It gives me some great info, but it’s not nearly as specific especially when it comes to my own biological metrics.
Teresa says
I love my Oura ring but my HRV has always been crazy low. This lead me to the cardiologist 🙂 Who said I was completely fine and all bodies are different!!
Maddie Giamello says
Amazing!! Love it! Just don’t get as obsessed with your sleep score as I am, haha!! Soon, you’ll be competing with your husband over who got the best sleep score the night before! it truly is amazing how much data you can get from it. I’ll notice even if I have a cocktail or 2 how much it affects my sleep. Also, you can tell when you’re getting sick because your heart rate will be higher and sleep more disturbed. I really knew in my heart I was pregnant before I even took a test because of my sleep data starting to change! it’s fascinating!!
Mix and Match Mama says
Wow!! THIS is the kind of info I was hoping for today!! Thank YOU, thank YOU!
Ellie says
This may not be applicable for everyone but wanted to share in case it is! I got my Oura ring about 2 years ago after getting married primarily to link to the Natural Cycles app as a way to avoid having to take any kind of hormonal birth control and track my cycle instead through the app. It takes your temperature first thing, so you don’t have to worry about forgetting. There’s also an option within Natural Cycles to say if you are feeling sick so that an increase in temperature won’t feed into the data and falsely track your ovulation date. After tracking for two years, the data was spot on and it was so cool to track ovulation to a specific day, something I had never done before. Fast forward to trying to get pregnant a few months ago, and not only was the specific ovulation day incredibly helpful, but it also picked up on when I did get pregnant through a steady increase in my temperature after ovulation. The app then switches over to tracking your pregnancy, and can still track your temperature and let you know when you might be getting sick, etc. Again, I know this might not be helpful for everyone but I’ve been amazed that there was a way to track these things that didn’t rely on me remembering to take my own temperature first thing, but also that would help us know when the best time to try to get pregnant was too. Wanted to share in case someone else is looking for an option for BC that doesn’t involve traditional birth control pills. Oura is the very first app I click on in the morning! It is the best!! I’ve also found the longer you use it, the more accurate and in-tune with your body the data/insights get.
Mix and Match Mama says
Thank YOU for this info!!! I am so grateful for it!
Sheila says
I’m so glad you shared your experience with the Oura ring!! I’ve been debating on getting one!! Thanks so much!! 😊
Laura says
I have a fitbit watch and wear it while sleeping and it too, gives great data. I’ve always charged my watch while taking a shower so that I could track my sleep. I look forward to hearing more about the ring, too.
Suzanne says
Laura- I agree with you. My Fitbit seems to do all this fine and I charge it once a week. It’s a super fast charge.
Joan says
Interesting. When do you charge the Oura and how long does it take? I get all that sleep info from my Fitbit watch, which I wear to bed and charge while I am showering, which is enough time. I chose the Fitbit because it is so much less bulky than an Apple watch. I imagine you could get the same sleep info from your Apple watch if you wear it to bed. But the Oura is way less bulky for sleeping. I think all these items do pretty much the same thing…am I wrong? Although, I can take an EKG on my Fitbit….don’t know if that’s available on the other 2 items.
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t charged it yet since it arrived! I asked Dr. Riegel that same question and he kind of scoffed and said hardly ever. I’ve never owned a Fitbit, so I can’t speak into that one, but my Apple Watch can’t be worn 24/7 because it needs to be charged daily. If I could wear it while sleeping, I would. I don’t think the data is as sleep specific though on an Apple Watch?
Morgan Godbold says
Hi Shay! I wear my appple watch at night to track my sleep! I use the AutoSleep app, it connects with the Health app too! I just have watch chargers in places I’ll be sitting during the day, like my desk, and in my car so I throw my watch on when needed. The newer chargers charge so fast too I’m not missing out on my watch during the day!
Alison says
I have never heard of this ring before but I am totally fascinated! Do you think it matters which hand you wear it on? Like, dominant vs. the other? I am obsessed with my Apple Watch, but like you, I don’t wear it to bed. I will definitely be checking this out. Thank you for sharing!
Mix and Match Mama says
I absolutely could be wrong, but when selecting mine, I really think it was more about the finger than the hand. Mine is on my dominant hand.
Lisa Elliott says
I am intrigued! This is the first time I’ve heard of this ring.
Debbra Weber says
Thank you! This has been so interesting. I look forward to your follow up post. Does Andrew have one? Does it bother you to wear it when you are lifting weights–does it pinch when lifting heavier weights?
After reading everyone’s comments, I am thinking about purchasing one for me and my sons as gifts too.
Mix and Match Mama says
Andrew does not have one. He’s not into gadgets like I am. I have been removing it when lifting weights because I don’t want to scratch it. I use to wear gloves when lifting all the time but have gotten out of the habit. I need to put them back on so that I can wear the ring and lift at the same time.
Lindsey says
I’m a year into my Oura ring and love it! The weekly recap is one of my favorite tools and helps me look forward to the week ahead with intention. Do I need to work on my sleep, manage my stress better, add in more exercise? The guided breathing exercises are so helpful in learning how breath work reduces stress. I work at a Functional Medicine practice, and we are all big fans of the Oura ring. We do tell our patients, just like any tool (labs, scale, ring, etc), it is just one angle of looking inside your body, so it’s not the end all be all. Love your review and think you will love it more the longer you wear it!
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t received a weekly recap yet. Is it emailed to you? I am so encouraged by your comment!
Lindsey says
I get a push notification through the Oura app. You can find them on the drop down menu under reports. I just looked, and my weekly reports started on Week 3, so maybe you need a few weeks of data before it generates!
Maggie says
It just pops up in the app each week! You also get monthly and seasonal updates too, which are really fascinating. Another great thing is it asks you questions when your sleep is lower etc. and you can “tag” things. Like someone said above, even having a drink or two can drastically change how you sleep. If you tag these things over time, you can see how certain things might be affecting your sleep (eating late is one too!). The tag feature has been super great also if you’re adding things to your routine (cold plunges, blackout curtains etc.) and you can over time see how things are helping your sleep/activity etc. You can also get really type-A about it, ha-ha!
Nic says
Shay, as someone who has read your blog for years I have been waiting for the light bulb to go off for you re: how important sleep is. So glad you are getting more rest!
Denise M. says
I think you meant to point out all of the nuances and not the nuisances of the ring 😉 Thank you for enlightening us!
Mix and Match Mama says
Of course. I really need an editor! I just corrected it. Thank you!
Sheaffer says
Wow. So much information from one tiny little device!
Erin H says
Ooh.. thank you for the review! I’ve been considering this for awhile now. I am in the opposite camp and really dislike my apple watch. Probably I have never taken the time to really dig in on how to use it, but the constant buzzing at me drove me crazy.
I believe you can use your health savings account and/or flexible spending account to pay for this so I’m waiting until mine resets in January since I’ve used it all up already this year.
Mix and Match Mama says
You can silent notifications on your Apple Watch to reduce and/or eliminate the buzzing.
Alyssa Norman says
This is such good info! Thank you for sharing! I’ve been contemplating getting an Oura ring for some time and just might take the leap. I’m finally in a phase of life ( not pregnant, won’t be nursing for long) that I really want to start taking charge of my wellness and you are such an inspiration to do so!
Marian says
Do you go in to the app to say when you are going to bed, or does the ring just KNOW? Same with exercise, walking, do you specifically indicate that you are doing something like that like you do with the Apple Watch? Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
The ring just knows! Isn’t that nuts?! I don’t go into the app and tell it anything (at least not now, but maybe people are about to comment and tell me that I should?!).
Marian says
Thank you!
Jen says
I’ve been eyeing oura rings for a while now, but haven’t made the leap because I tend to not wear much jewelry (have abandoned many a smart watch over the years LOL). But I just saw on their site that they are HSA/FSA eligible and I have a bunch of leftover HSA money this year, so I might go for it now! Thanks for the nudge!
Sundee Dennis says
Will you continue to wear your Apple Watch?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes! I’m wearing both right now. The Oura is not going to replace my watch.
Stacey says
Do you have any reservations about having all this technology strapped to your body day in and out? No judgment – just really curious over here. I have held off wearing a smart watch because of the idea of having that radioactive item on my skin all day, every day. I know the amount is low, but still… And now I find myself with a broken regular watch and I’m wondering if now is the time to make the switch? However I’m still hesitant and curious what others think who find health as important as me.
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve certainly thought about it, but right now, I feel comfortable with it. Who knows? That could change too!
Kay says
I have also worried about this! I have an Apple Watch but not a ring. But a doctor once said to me, you’re holding your phone to your head all day, so if you’re worried about having all the tech near you, you’d have to also swear off your phone! Which, believe me, I’d LOVE to do but we all know we can’t, sigh. Also, most of us charge our phones in our rooms at night, so I’m not sure that’s much different than wearing a ring to sleep.
All that to say, if you’re interested in getting a watch-go for it! We’re surrounded by tech waves everywhere anyway 🙁
Julie Harris says
Shay, you’re getting a GREAT amount of deep sleep in your first sleep cycle, which is super important for brain health. Way to go:-)
I have a Galaxy watch which tracks all of the same things and doesn’t bother me to sleep, except when I wake at night and move which lights up the screen. I’d imagine I could change that in the settings, but your post has inspired me to try an Oura instead. I love to nerd out to this kind of stuff. Thanks for the post!
Leah says
I’ve also been told that the ring tracks your temperature and can tell if you’re going to be sick before it even happens and can track your menstrual cycle. I’ve been leaning towards buying one.
Nicole says
Wait!! So I’ve been on the fence about getting one for awhile, and I’m like you – well the old you 🤣 6 hours of sleep is my typical, do you work out after the kids go to school now? Gosh, I know I need more sleep but it’s so hard to sacrifice all the things I get done in the morning! How are you handling this/what did you change in your morning routine now? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I am still waking up early, but I’m going to bed earlier. I had to pick whether to sleep in or go to bed early, and I picked go to bed early. Of course there are exceptions…but my general rule is getting in bed early. I will always be an early bird 🙂 .
Karen says
We have been looking into the Oura rings ourselves. I don’t know anyone personally who has had one so I’ve been hesitant to make the investment. Your review is persuading me… I’ve also been considering the Apple Watch, would you say having both is over the top or because the Apple Watch has additional uses investing in both is a good idea? And which model is your favorite Apple Watch? Thnx
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh, this is hard for me to answer because I’m 9 years into the watch but only four days into the Oura. Because of that, I would say that my watch is my very favorite…but who knows? In six months, I might be saying something completely different. I am using both and right now, cannot imagine not wearing my watch. I would say buy the latest watch (Series 10) in aluminum.
Erika Slaughter says
This is so intriguing! Maybe I’m adding this to my own Christmas list!
Jill says
This is really cool. I’m so glad you’re sharing your journey with this ring.
Alexa says
I have been contemplating an oura ring, thanks for sharing!
I’m also currently reading Fast Like a Girl. I’m only a couple chapters in, but it’s very intriguing so far.
Mix and Match Mama says
I really, really loved that book!
Lois says
I’m curious what the difference is between your Apple Watch and the Oura when you walk/strength train. Do they give you similar metrics as far as calories burned, steps a day, etc. Wondering which is more accurate!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m still figuring this out. I haven’t grasped the fitness aspect fully yet.
Jeanette says
Thank you for sharing! Definitely looking forward to Part 2 next year when you’ve had more time with the ring.
Rhoda W says
Each to their own. I’m a self confessed technophobe. I don’t sleep well at the best of times so I think this ring would cause me to be more anxious and have even poorer sleep as it continually tells me that my sleep quality is bad! Have bought two Apple Watches and hated being a slave to both lol. Have you ever read The Circle, by Dave Eggers? It’s a dystopian story of life with everything we do monitored by devices, apps and the Circle Corporation. The book really struck a nerve with me and made me very wary of every bit of personal data we share as technology marches relentlessly forward. OK, now that’s off my chest I will take my tin foil hat off!
Ellen says
Ha ha, I am also a light sleeper who can’t handle anything “extra.”
Keisha Dawson says
I have always used my watch to track my sleep, but I have seriously been considdering the ring. I’m going to put a bug in my hubby’s ear. Thank you!
Traci m says
Will you be wearing this just for sleep or for activity also?! I’m curious about all your findings! Thanks for sharing.
Mix and Match Mama says
I will be wearing it 24/7 but for me personally, the emphasis right now is on my sleep tracking.
Amanda says
I read through all the comments to see if there’re any negative comments or people who said they didn’t love it. Am I the only one? I got an Oura ring back in August and wore it for about seven weeks. At first it was interesting to see the sleep data. But then I noticed that the data wasn’t telling me anything I didn’t know…in fact, I found that it was wrong sometimes. I’d get an optimal sleep score when I knew I tossed and turned and couldn’t stay asleep the night before. And then other nights when I fell asleep quickly, didn’t remember turning over once, and woke up feeling rested, it would say my sleep score was only fair. It was frustrating and again, I just didn’t see the benefit personally so I stopped wearing it and canceled my membership. I wonder if anyone else had the same experience? From the other comments, it sure sounds like there are a lot of fans out there! I look forward to your Part Two!
Shannon says
I’ve been really interested in getting an oura ring to use along side the natural cycles app instead of using traditional birth control. Is there anyone who uses this for this purpose and could give feedback? I would love a reliable option in place of traditional birth control.
Jessica says
I’ve been thinking about getting one too! They’re so interesting! I don’t have an Apple Watch because I have a really nice watch I wear everyday, but the Oura might persuade me! My little question is, can it track your steps? I’ve heard it can, but it’s not really spelled out that it does. Thanks so much! Can’t wait to follow along and read Part 2! 🙂
Mary Collins Bugg says
I got my Oura in July and am loving it! After consistently staying in the 95+ range for activity I upped my goal a few weeks ago to try and push myself to hit that. Something to consider if you continue to score so well for activity. It’s fun to have a challenging goal now although I am not loving when I don’t hit above 90 haha.
I believe people have mentioned this as well, but the longer you wear it the more it comes to “know” you and will provide you new, customized recommendations. (Ie it just gave me a new recommended bedtime since I’ve been staying up and waking up later)
the best time to charge is in the shower! I only have to charge every 6 or 7 days.
I’m so excited to hear more as you discover more, I’m sure you’ll have a thing or two to teach us too. I have been a long time follower of the blog, but this is my first ever comment. Thank you for sharing your life with us 🤍
Tamara R says
One of my close friends has an Oura ring and posts her score/stats daily on Instagram. It has intrigued me for years and just yesterday I texted her to ask if I should get one (of course she said YES!). So I’m so glad you got one! This is definitely going on my Christmas list and I can’t wait to hear more about what you think of it! Xx
Julie says
Wait until you see how horribly alcohol affects your stats. Very eye opening.
Rhoda W says
eek I don’t want to know …ignorance is bliss!
Shaunna says
I’ve been researching the Oura ring to use up my flex spending money. Can you tell me if you ordered the 3rd or 4th version?
Mix and Match Mama says
I ordered the 4th!
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
This was such a great post! I’ve been waiting on you to do another wellness related post, so yay!! I didn’t realize the Oura ring did all of that and I enjoyed reading the comments and learning how it can tell you when you’re getting sick–so cool! I recently learned about Whoop–have you heard of that? It seems to be like an apple watch and Oura combined but it’s a band you wear. I think I would love the amount of info it provides, but it doesn’t have a watch face so I think that would bother me not knowing the time. I love having all of these health and wellness gadgets to choose from!
MeetTheShaneyfelts
Bri Runde says
I am so interested in one!!! Do you know how long the charge is supposed to last?!
Mix and Match Mama says
I don’t, but I’m wearing mine until it dies to see how long that takes. Right now, my ring is still lasting off of the original charge that came with it from the box. I am very impressed by that!
Gretchen says
I’ve had my ring for almost 3 years. For the first bit I was putting it on the charger whenever I took it off, like to shower. I then read that this is bad for the battery and to only charge it when it gets really low. Just an fyi.
Heather Murray says
Been eyeing this ring for awhile….did sizing at Target yesterday; but haven’t bought one yet!!! Been using my Apple Watch to track sleep, but love the idea of using the Oura ring and charging my watch at night. I’ve heard an Oura ring charge last about 8 days, which would be amazing!!!
Stephanie P says
So I am also a fan of Apple Watch who got an Oura ring. But sadly I gave it up after about 3-4 months. I loved the sleep info! That part was fascinating. But the calorie burn/steps/fitness piece was way off and conflicted with the Apple Watch data. I could live with that but the final straw was the Oura ring telling me often I stressed I was! It literally alerted me during meetings I was stressed…and that was stressing me out more. So I decided I didn’t need another device tracking me and just commit to going to bed on time each night. Curious what you think as the months go on. I’ve debated giving it another try.
Mix and Match Mama says
I am processing all of this, but I think my #1 question is how you were getting notifications. My ring isn’t notifying of anything right now.
Stephanie P says
I remember it was both in the oura app setting and the Apple app setting. But you couldn’t pick and choose alerts too granular when I had it. Another poster mentioned battery. The battery on oura is excellent but you do need to monitor because you don’t want to lose charge in the middle of the night. I charged about every 3 days.
Michelle G says
I just sent mine back last week. It was within the 30 days so I received a refund. I think they’re a neat idea but for me I felt it was uncomfortable and bulky! I also felt like I was so worried about the data all the time and I didn’t like that. I really thought I would love it. I have an Apple Watch so I’m just going to stick with that for now lol!
Leslie S says
This is interesting!! My husband is trying out the LUMEN – have you heard of that? It’s a metabolic tracker and it’s pretty cool. He’s only had it 2 weeks so still in learning mode but it is fascinating.
Mix and Match Mama says
I have heard of it, but I really don’t know much about it at all.
Laura Holmes says
I’ve been so curious about these rings also. I’m an avid apple watch wearer. I do wear mine to sleep and get good data using an app. I’d love to hear how the watch compares to the ring data wise as the months go forward. Are they identical? Do you feel one is more accurate? I think my biggest hesitation is that the ring looks very think and like it would be uncomfortable between your fingers. Do you find it comfortable to wear?

I will note all of these when I do PART TWO! Thank you for prompting the questions so that I can really pay attention to this as I learn my ring.

I’ve been on my own health journey for about 18 months as well! Different than yours, but just a dedication to walking at least 4 times a week. This past year, I’ve walked over 800 miles! Unfortunately, this summer, I couldn’t breathe on one of my walks and had to go to the hospital.. we discovered, for a reason unknown still, that all the lobes of my lungs were filled with blood clots – hundreds! So in the hospital, I ordered an Oura ring! I loooove it … I love the sleep component, the period tracking and predicting, how it can predict when you’re about to get sick, and the stress level has been the most fascinating; focusing on how FOOD and things we put on or into our body affects our stress is so important and I’ve learned so much about what isn’t good for me based on my data! I also gave up all forms of alcohol (for this season of health and wellness) and it’s crazy how you can notice that on the ring as well!!

I’m so excited to know you’re on your own journey too!!
Meagan Booker says
Wow! Lots of good info. Are you wearing it on your dominant hand ?
Mix and Match Mama says
I am! I thought it would bother me on the same hand as my Apple Watch and my wedding rings.
Meagan Booker says
That was my worry too! Thank you for the info 🙂 how is does the gold look in comparison to your other gold jewelry is it super yellow?
Mix and Match Mama says
I think it matches perfectly. When I look down, it looks like an actual piece of jewelry to me. My biggest fear was that it would scratch easily and look terrible, but one week in and it’s yet to have a scratch, so I consider that a small win.
Meagan Booker says
That’s great to know! Thank you so much for the feedback. I’m gonna order one!!

My daughter wears one and loves it. I use a whoop strap which is very similar.
Dena Randall says
What Apple Watch do you have right now?
Mix and Match Mama says
I got it last year, and I have no idea if there is a brand new version out but I *think* it’s a 9?
