Happy happy Monday! I hope you all had a wonderful weekend!
It’s a THREE POST DAY!
You can catch my MEAL PLANNING MONDAY and a 20% OFF BEAUTY CODE post too!
Today is the third and final recap of our trip back up to Detroit, Michigan for Thanksgiving.
If you missed the first two posts, make sure you catch…
…PART ONE where I recapped all of the amazing towns we love in the Detroit area and then…
…in PART TWO, we shared the magical German Christmas town of Frankenmuth 🙂 .
Today, I’m sharing Thanksgiving Day when we woke up and headed back to Ford Field to see the Detroit Lions play the Chicago Bears. You guys, I remember our last game there 20 years ago. It was unbelievably awesome to be back two decades later with our three girls…
…I snapped this pic in the parking garage as we were heading inside. When we were ordering all of our Lions gear to take with us to Detroit, she asked to wear his jersey instead. I’m pretty sure his heart is still in a puddle.
Inside we go! Ford Field was extra extra fabulous for Christmas!
Awwwww, I love these people! We were SO excited!
Thankful to be back there with him twenty years later. So very thankful.
Not only were we thankful to be there with our girls and my parents, but…
…it’s always SO MUCH FUN to see our favorite guy officiate! Listen, I could write books and books about how much we love us some Tab and Erika. They are our people. They are family. We get excited to watch Tab officiate each week on TV, so it’s EXTRA AWESOME to see him in person. Andrew and I laugh because we see Tab every day, but when he waves at us from the football field, Andrew and I fangirl like he’s a super star. Bahahaha! I think it’s the stripes. When I see him in normal life, I do not fangirl. 😉
It was a very very special way to spend Thanksgiving day!!
Let’s go Lions and #110!
Spending Thanksgiving with a very festive bunch!
After every Lions touchdown, they show a guy in the stands singing this song. It was SO much fun to see him sing it again because for the last 20 years, Andrew or myself will randomly belt it out at different times and our kids always think we’re insane. It felt validating for them to finally hear where we learned it 🙂 .
For halftime…
…I loved Shaboozey’s performance! I thought it was fantastic!
Before we knew it…
…the game was over 🙂 . We truly had the BEST time!
After the game, we headed back to the house we had rented for the week and the Slaughters came over too so we could…
…officially celebrate Thanksgiving! We found a local catering company who, while we were gone, had prepared a delicious Thanksgiving feast for us to enjoy.
So many people we love up in Detroit together for a “framily” Thanksgiving.
It was the PERFECT way to end our very special trip back to Detroit.
Wishing you the Merriest Monday!
Reminder, you can catch my MEAL PLANNING MONDAY and a 20% OFF BEAUTY CODE post today too!

For being such a world traveler, you have no idea how much it means to us Detroiters that you spent a week and loved being up north! You made our great state look as amazing as it is and picked the best out of these last 20 to come see the Lions! 💙🩶

We will be back! We had the best time and cannot wait to visit again. xx

Love it! I think the older I get, the more nostalgic I get revisiting things from our past. I can just feel the emotions you must have felt revisiting your newlywed days!
So funny, I’ve literally never heard of Shaboozey until last night. My husband was talking about how much he liked his music, and then, bam- today he’s on your blog!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well that is certainly a coincidence!
Katie Compton says
I had the Detroit game on while I was prepping Thanksgiving dinner. It was just my little family of three this year (which was actually pretty amazing!). I found myself all alone in the kitchen during the halftime show, and so I had a little dance party with myself! Shaboozey was awesome!! I’d love to see him live sometime. Happy Monday, Shay!

Looks like a great time! It was perfect weather for you guys when you were here. I’m sure you were enjoying the cold weather. Were you guys able to find a nice Air BNB in the area?
Mix and Match Mama says
The weather was perfect! It very much felt like proper Thanksgiving weather. We did find a great AirBnB for our stay!

Looks like the perfect Thanksgiving!

I absolutely love what you said about “fan girling”! Isn’t so wonderful to see the people we love – our people – doing what THEY love and it doesn’t matter what they are doing?! Whether playing a sport, reffing a game, playing an instrument – we can see our people in our normal, everyday life but when we see them out there, showing off their passion, we instantly turned into the loudest cheerleaders in the room/stadium/concert hall?!! Love this!
Mix and Match Mama says
YES!!!!! It truly is! I felt that way last night too. Our dear friends lead worship at our church and most days “they’re just my amazing normal friends”, but last night during our Christmas event, I was like “HOLY COW, THEY ARE FREAKING FABULOUS AND I’M JUST HONORED TO BE IN THE SAME ROOM”. It fills my cup to see my favorite people “do their thing”.

It was such a fun surprise to see your pictures of Frankenmuth (which is where I live). I forget how lucky we are to live in such a quaint little town!
Mix and Match Mama says
YOU DO!!!!! It is right out of a Hallmark movie!
Sarah Farhood says
Go Lions!
andie says
Oh my goodness!! You were in the precious town I live in~Northville!! We’ve been here for 23 years and raised our four children here!! Thanks for giving Michigan/Detroit/Lions some love! Looks like you had fun! God bless you!
Mix and Match Mama says
Ohhhhhhh! I cannot imagine how wonderful it was to raise a family there!
Jessica says
I cracked up at your fan-girl comment about Tab. Our family, who has never met yours or Erika’s, also fan-girls every time we see “Mr. Tab” as my kids call him on TV. Cracks me up!
What a special trip to Detroit! So glad you got to share it with your girls.
Erika Slaughter says
It was a GREAT Thanksgiving!
Patty says
Wait, as a former Lions player, Andrew didn’t get any special perks…locker room visit…front row seats, etc? What a special visit for all of you!
Mix and Match Mama says
Well he didn’t want to ask about going up to the practice facility. That’s a very short week for the Lions (playing two games in one week), so he certainly wouldn’t want to impose/get in their way. I’m sure we’ll go visit when/should we ever get to visit during the off season. We were also happy to pay for our tickets and support the Lions. They certainly did a lot for us that year when we were there, we were happy to buy our tickets and not need/expect anything for free.
MelanieL says
We (I?) fangirl over seeing Tab on TV!! Ha ha! There has to be several of us out here who have told our peeps about our “friends” husbands who were in the NFL and/or officiate! I just love you and Erika both, so glad you all could spend Thanksgiving together in MI!! 🙂

Would you mind sharing the link for the Airbnb and also the local catering company that you used? Our family has never been to that area, and now it is on our list! Such a fun trip! Thank you for sharing it with us!
Mix and Match Mama says
I need to get the VRBO info from Andrew (it was in Detroit), but I have the catering info here: https://www.abodefinedining.com/
Robin says
That would be great as I know nothing about the area. Thank you!
