Since we’re chatting all things SUPPLEMENTS today, I thought it would be an excellent time to share with you my favorite way to make a protein smoothie.
This is not rocket science. It’s fast, it’s easy, it gets me my extra protein AND my creatine, and it’s delicious. I *typically* have this if I’m needing to get a protein boost mid-day. It’s one of my favorite little afternoon pleasures 🙂 .
Okay, here we go…
I grab my protein powder. My favorite brand is Clean Simple Eats, and I use a variety of their proteins to make my smoothies. I almost always do 1 and a half scoops to give me about 30ish grams of protein.
After putting the protein in my blender, I put half a frozen banana in there too. I buy bananas, split them in half and keep them in my freezer. I have found that my family and I don’t need/want an entire banana in one smoothie, so half is the perfect amount. I also have found that frozen bananas make creamier smoothies than room temp ones.
If I’ve selected a protein powder flavor that pairs well with peanut or almond butter, I’ll add about a teaspoon to the blender too.
I add 5 grams of unflavored creatine monohydrate to the blender too. This is an easy way to get that creatine!
I add ice and water (about a cup of each) and…
…start blending!
Thanks to the ice and frozen banana, this gets creamy quickly.
The perfect protein smoothie 🙂 . Lots of protein, creatine, and deliciousness! xx

I know you’ve mentioned this before, but what are the benefits of creatine? I am 44 so I’m thinking it’s something I should definitely start incorporating. Thanks! Looks delicious ◡̈

There are so many! In fact, I’ve heard multiple experts mention that this is the most researched of all supplements. Some of the key benefits are bone and muscle development, brain health, brain clarity, and better sleep.

Thanks for the recipe! I will try it out! I do:
1 scoop chocolate protein powder
1 scoop creatine
3/4 cup plain Greek yogurt
1 cup frozen blueberries
2 TBSP chia seeds
3/4 cup of water & ice mixed
And blend it up! It makes a smoothie with 48g of protein & some fiber from the seeds and blueberries.

Hi Shay, how did you choose which creatine to take? I want to add that to my daily supplements but there’s so many out there. Thanks for sharing!
Mix and Match Mama says
There are so many out there! I read how it’s made (you’re looking for the purest kinds) and then I also read reviews. I almost always though, at this point, purchase based off what I hear these experts on podcasts recommend. If someone like Dr. Peter Attia, for example, mentions a supplement brand he trusts, I take that as a very good recommendation.

And if like me you can’t tolerate Whey, Truvani has some delicious flavors! Chocolate Peanut Butter and Banana Chai are great. You can order sample packets and Sprouts has some as well. Great to try before you buy the larger bags.

Love a mid-afternoon protein smoothie! I use vanilla protein powder and FairlifeFF milk to up the protein, add half a frozen banana and 1/4c of frozen blueberries. So delicious! Sometimes add a scoop of Supergut to it also.

Shay, is this a snack for you? Lunch replacement?
Mix and Match Mama says
This would be a snack. This is just to get my protein up for the day (on days when I feel like I need more than what I’m consuming through food).
Michele says
Do you not eat any yogurt or cottage cheese? This is such an easy way to get more protein in every day. Also, adding low fat milk instead of water to your smoothie would give you more protein & calcium for your bones, which you say you are concerned about about.

I do not eat a lot of dairy, so no, I do not eat/drink those things. I eat cheese, but I don’t know that dairy sits well for me, so I tend to not eat it as much any more.

Since I know you love coffee – I will often add a splash of cold coffee or espresso with my milk or water. It’s soo good. Do you find the clean simple eats protein gets really frothy for you? I always hear people gush about it and I got some but it gets so frothy and thick in the blender…I feel like some people may love this about it though. I always go back to the arbonne one and use the clean simple eats in things I don’t blend.

I add a lot of ice which I think makes it creamy. I’m telling you, I LOVE IT! I have probably purchased 9 or 10 bags over the year and every single one, we devour. My kids love it too.

Hi. Wanted to clarify- only 1 top of a nut butter? Did you mean TBSP? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
No, I typically just add in about a teaspoon for one smoothie unless I’m really trying to amp up the protein, and then, I’ll add more.
