Friday Favorites

It’s Friday, Friday, Friday!

Tonight is the talent show at our kids’ school…so we have BIG plans to watch our favorite second grader hula hoop and then tomorrow night, Andrew and I are celebrating Catherine’s LoweCo birthday party with a bunch of our friends.  I’m realllllly hoping for a nap on Sunday afternoon (which should be easy now that the Cowboys will not be playing).  Insert very sad face HERE.

As always, I’m linking up with my friends Erika, Andrea and Narci and sharing my favorite things from the week.  I hope you have a wonderful weekend friends!

Well oh my word.  I had no idea what a conversation this post would stir…

On Tuesday, I told you guys that Andrew thinks we should ditch our landline but that I am having a hard time letting go…and you ladies SPOKE into that subject.  I was actually really surprised by the response too.  Because the vast majority of my friends and family do not have a landline, I just assumed I needed to ditch mine too…but after reading over 300 of your comments (yes, over 300!), most of you (I would say 75%) said I needed to keep it for security reasons…and you know what, I am!  In fact, I had two friends tell me that after reading through my comments, they feel like they should now get a landline because you ladies made so many excellent points.  So, if you’ve had the great debate at your house about landline or no landline, you should read some of the comments HERE from Tuesday’s post…it will convince you to keep your home phone.

Speaking of topics that get you ladies fired up…I had no idea that this one would make you all so passionate…

…tea.

Last Friday when I shared my newfound love of tea, you ladies totally inspired me with your tea knowledge and suggestions.  I went through and wrote down several of your recommendations (especially the ones that kept reoccurring) and bought myself some new tea based on what you said I would like.  Here is what I bought thanks to your suggestions:

Celestial Seasonings Sugar Cookie Sleigh Ride
Harney & Sons Paris Tea
Harney & Sons Hot Cinnamon Spice

This is just the beginning, so no worries if I didn’t order one you suggested!  I’m working my way through your tea suggestions now and will go back to that post for more suggestions when I need them.  THANK YOU tea experts!  I would never have come up with this assortment without you!

I told you ladies that I was into OPI’s Chicago Champagne Toast and someone recommended their A-Rose at Dawn…Broke by Noon too and well…

…I love it.  It’s not too pink for winter…it’s just the right pink.

And yes, that’s that same sweater from Loft.  I keep wearing it because it’s soooo soft and it washes and dries…so that’s just perfect.

Speaking of things I’m wearing…my three favorite things from our trip to Park City last weekend are:

My fun faux-fur coat (it was actually really warm too!)…

my ruffled sleeveless sweater (some people asked what lipstick I’m wearing and it’s Charlotte Tilbury’s Kim K. W) and…

my tassel earrings.  These earrings come in 11 different colors and I bought rose gold.

This week, I picked another YouTube workout video from your suggestions and tried this one…

Yoga By Candace.  She was so good and very mellow.  I did her 30 minute Power Yoga but she had so many other ones to chose from.  I will absolutely be coming back to her videos this year!  I’m not sure if she’s like this on every video…but she was very calm and soothing when she spoke.  I thought the 30 minute workout was great!

So far, I’ve tried:
Yoga By Candace’s Power Yoga
Fitness Blender Cardio & Total Body Workout
Blogilates Total Body Pilates

For years now, I’ve had a Stella & Dot online “party” open on my sidebar.  My friend Jody has been selling it for years and I adore her and the jewelry, so I’ve always had it on my sidebar.  This week, I ordered two new bracelets…

…and then of course, I’m always wearing one of these engraveable necklaces too…

…this one has a KS plus a heart and then a AM.  I’m pretty sure I’ve told you guys about these approximately 6,936 times…but it’s always worth repeating.  These make excellent gifts!!  You can see my online party HERE.

And I’m wrapping up our week with my yummy (and simple!) Citrus Coffee Cake

Citrus Coffee Cake

Your weekend needs this, right?  See the recipe HERE.

Have a wonderful weekend friends!

I’m not into tea…but maybe I should get into tea? You’re going to need to tell me your absolute favorite after you rotate through some suggestions.

    • jamie January 20, 2017 at 5:53 am

i believe the harney & sons tins are beautiful {if i’m thinking of the correct brand} so maybe that will help us??!?

good morning, lovely. do you put anything in your tea?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 5:41 am

      I haven’t been. Should I????

      • jamie January 20, 2017 at 5:55 am

HA! i have no idea! i just want to fall in love with all things tea…

      • Kristen January 20, 2017 at 6:52 am

I put liquid stevia in mine from Trader Joe’s. Just the perfect amount of sweet. ?

      • Emily January 20, 2017 at 8:44 am

I love adding a little squirt of honey in my tea. The little bit of sweet helps the flavor.

  • jamie January 20, 2017 at 5:38 am

    and {ps} i’m a tea drinker wannabe. i try every so often…

    • Lana B January 20, 2017 at 7:53 am

Teavana has rock sugar sweetner (natural) that makes tea really good. You can also treat tea like coffee, like the Brits, and put cream and sugar in it, or “white tea”. It’s actually really good, too! But then again, I love coffee, but not with out a little something in it, too. What can I say? 🙂

  • Nicole January 20, 2017 at 5:41 am

Per your recommendation last year I got Kristin McGee’s yoga app and have loved it! It’s truly my favorite video workouts to do. Well, I’m 15 weeks pregnant now and am still able to do all the yoga so far…but I just discovered she has a Prenatal Yoga and Pilates app! I LOVE it! I know you’re not in need of prenatal yoga, but thought maybe some of your readers might be. 😉

  • Bailey Bryant January 20, 2017 at 5:53 am

That pink nail polish was made for me!

  • Narci January 20, 2017 at 5:57 am

So many great things today!! You looked darling in that sleeveless sweater!

  • Sarah Shaneyfelt January 20, 2017 at 6:01 am

I’ve read so many great things about green tea and the benefits of drinking it in the morning, so now I really want to try it! And you just use the tea bags right? How long does it take to make a cup of tea? You can tell I’m from the South because I know how long it takes to make a gallon of tea, but not a cup ha! Happy Friday!

  • Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams January 20, 2017 at 6:04 am

Yay so glad you tried Yoga by Candace! I agree she is very mellow during the videos and that helps me stay in it because her voice isn’t jarring. That citrus coffee cake looks delicious!
    Happy Friday 🙂

  • Erika Slaughter January 20, 2017 at 6:06 am

I’m gonna give that yoga video a try. You had me at soothing voice. :). Happy friday!

  • Rachel Bierschbach January 20, 2017 at 6:09 am

Any tips on how you started selling Stella and dog. I’m obsessed with their smaller items and would love to sell but don’t want to have they pop up parties at my house! Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 6:17 am

I don’t sell, my friend Jody does. You should reach out to her or Narci! They both could help you. Email me and I’ll connect you :). mixandmatchmama@yahoo.com

  • Jessica January 20, 2017 at 6:35 am

My husband bought us Tile for our keys and phones. It’s a small tile to put on your keychain and an app for your phone. It will ring your phone, even if it’s on silent, and the tile will sound on your keys. You can put it in your wallet or any other item you lose. It’s been super useful for us. He purchased it on Amazon.

Have a great weekend! Love your blog!

  • Diane January 20, 2017 at 6:38 am

I loved all of the phone suggestions! I’m keeping our land line now too!

  • Nikki January 20, 2017 at 6:41 am

I usually add a bit of honey and lemon juice. My husband is European and likes to add milk to black tea. Kids in Europe grow up drinking tea, maybe yours would like it too? An afternoon tea party would be fun!

  • Lizzie @ This Happy Life January 20, 2017 at 6:51 am

Love those tassle earrings and those bracelets!

  • Kelly January 20, 2017 at 7:12 am

    Love those earrings!!!♡♡♡

  • Laura January 20, 2017 at 7:15 am

Love these favorites! I’d love to know about the leather jacket your wearing, please. Thank you!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 7:26 am

It’s an older one from Nordstrom. It’s one of my faves :).

  • Laura January 20, 2017 at 7:15 am

You have to try Yoga with Adriene! I love her channel PLUS she is a Texas girl too!

Someone mentioned what to add to tea. I don’t add anything but most people I know add honey. When I am drinking plain black tea/English breakfast, I do add a tiny bit of milk and sugar.

My very favorite tea of all time is Constant Comment. It is black tea with hints of orange and spice in it and I seriously could drink it every day of my life! https://www.bigelowtea.com/Shop-Teas/By-Type/Constant-Comment/Constant-Comment#.WIIM1oHVvYU

  • Amanda Wilson January 20, 2017 at 7:26 am

It was Wednesday! I’ll post it soon!

  • Jennifer Ashcraft January 20, 2017 at 7:31 am

Youthberry tea frmo Teavana is one of my favorites! hot or cold. Also, did you get a new Apple watch in rose gold!?

  • Becky Reid January 20, 2017 at 7:33 am

I always look forward Friday Favorites!
I’m happy to see a pic with your Apple Watch. I was worried the novelty had warn off. I’m (finally) going to pick one up. Any suggestions?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 8:45 am

      I’m obsessed with it!!

  • Rosie January 20, 2017 at 7:39 am

Oh no! As of 2 days ago your posts no longer show up in my blog reader… I even deleted you and added you back to see, but the last post that shows up is Smith’s birthday post! Any idea what went wrong and how I can fix it?

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 8:44 am

I’m on this Rosie! So sorry!

      • Tracey January 20, 2017 at 12:43 pm

Same problem! Glad that I saw Erika’s post so I could catch up the last few days.

  • Angela Ellingson January 20, 2017 at 7:58 am

Oh my goodness, this post is a wealth of good info!! I literally just asked my friend this morning if she has any favorite yoga youtube channels. I’m trying this one now!

  • Jill January 20, 2017 at 8:02 am

Try Teapigs Licorice and Mint. It is so sweet on its own; I drink it in the afternoon instead of eating something with sugar. A friend raved about it to me and I was put off by the name but she gave me one to try and now I’m hooked. It’s amazing – and no it doesn’t taste like licorice. It’s from England and the tea bags are compostable.

  • Sara January 20, 2017 at 8:05 am

Are the tassel earrings heavy? Online reviews suggest they are heavy and I can’t wear heavy earrings.

As for what to put in your tea, some people add sugar just like with coffee but I never add anything to mine. It’s personal preference so you may want to try a little sugar to see if you like it 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 8:43 am

I can’t wear heavy earrings either (like the big Kendra Scott), but I didn’t find these heavy. I wouldn’t wear them all day, but they worked for evening.

  • Kelly January 20, 2017 at 8:25 am

I checked out that pretty black ruffled sweater you’re wearing.. from the picture on the model it looks like there may be a lot of side-boob issues? And kinda see through? Im less concerned about the see-through aspect cause I can wear a cami, but I wondered about the side boob ? Is that a problem IRL? Just wanted to know before I order it.Thanks!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 8:42 am

Ha! Side boob never even crossed my mind! I was totally fine!

  • Kim Kauffman January 20, 2017 at 8:26 am

I LOVE the Harney & Sons Cinnamon. It’s so good and I don’t even need any honey or sweetener. I’ll have to try the Paris one. I love that I can grab it when I’m at Target!

  • Ruth January 20, 2017 at 8:40 am

The Cowboys ?? they were so fun to watch this year, I was so bummed they lost. Maybe next year.

  • Cait January 20, 2017 at 8:49 am

If you are looking for a quick paced workout with lots of different options (cardio, arms, legs, abs) Try sweat lab fitness. You can subscribe and choose from a bunch of videos!

  • kristen January 20, 2017 at 8:57 am

i put a little honey in my tea. the harney and sons cinnamon spice is my very favorite. it not only tastes amazing but it smells so good.

i love the black ruffled sleeved sweater!

  • Jennifer January 20, 2017 at 9:02 am

Harney & Sons hot cinnamon spice is my favorite tea! I can’t drink any kind of tea without a little sweetener. Also, sometimes it’s kinda fun to add a little milk to switch things up. Honey is also a fun addition. Enjoy!

  • Mandi Moore January 20, 2017 at 9:24 am

I LOVE my Stella & Dot bar necklace, but mine is vertical, I think I might need a horizontal one as well. 🙂

  • Megan Butler January 20, 2017 at 9:25 am

I always drink my tea black!! (And I prefer black tea!) but sounds like I need to try harney and sons!!

  • Shelley K. Watson January 20, 2017 at 9:31 am

Hi Shay! This question has absolutely nothing to do with today’s post, but I’m curious. Did you have a professional photographer take the pics of you in your kitchen (the one posted below the “about me” section? Thanks in advance!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 20, 2017 at 12:48 pm

Yes! I did. It’s a picture that is used in my Eats cookbook :).

  • Vicky January 20, 2017 at 9:53 am

Harney & Sons has the best tea! I always order the satchels (they’re like little pyramids) and they come in the prettiest tins. Their peppermint tea, jasmine tea, and hot cinnamon sunset are 3 of my favorites. For workout videos, you should try Tone It Up on YouTube! They have a wide variety of workouts ranging from high intensity cardio to yoga 🙂

  • Kayla B January 20, 2017 at 9:56 am

For online yoga, I would highly suggest Erin Motz at Bad Yogi. She has a great Instagram/ FB presence, currently lives in France, and I am LOVING her Perfect Body Yoga Program course. She’s really great.
For tea, the British drink it with milk and sugar, but I find that to be pretty decadent. I usually stick to some sort of sweetener and add some cream when I want a treat.
    Have a good weekend!

  • Heather S January 20, 2017 at 10:10 am

You need to head back to Teavana and pick up their Belgian Rock Sugar ! All you need is like half a teaspoon and the little rocks dissolve right in the tea sweeting it just the right amount. Also, did you know you are currently not showing up on Bloglovin’? I had to head to your website two days in a row now.

  • Jenny January 20, 2017 at 10:13 am

Oh, I need to give up coffee but I really, really don’t want to. I’m hoping you find the perfect tea to share with us… maybe that will give me enough motivation.

  • Anna S January 20, 2017 at 10:30 am

    My Friday Favorites:
Tea: Teavana orange-blossom hibiscus tea served cold or hot
    Book: Daring Greatly- Brené Brown
Food: Your barbecue chicken tacos. I am obsessed. So simple. So delicious.

  • Nicole January 20, 2017 at 12:06 pm

Your email hasn’t also stopped showing up for me as of this week. I just subscribed again to see if that fixes it!

  • Lindsay D January 20, 2017 at 12:12 pm

Happy Friday!! Really enjoyed the post today!! 🙂

  • MEGAN January 20, 2017 at 12:20 pm

I am going to have to try the yoga!! It sounds awesome. Also, we totally called and got a landline scheduled to be put in after I read your comments on your post about the phones. You had some totally good points made there!

  • Holly Hopkins January 20, 2017 at 12:35 pm

Loving the necklace. I love that you wear rose gold, silver, and gold at the same time. I’m always nervous about mixing my medals. It looks great on you so I am niw going to relax about it haha. Thank you!

  • Jennifer January 20, 2017 at 1:06 pm

you will LOVE the cinnamon spice tea. Its by far my favorite tea to drink (and I’m a coffee addict too!)

  • Jenny January 20, 2017 at 1:14 pm

Would u tell me where that sweater is from? The one on the pic with tassel earrings. It’s so beautiful.

  • Laci January 20, 2017 at 1:25 pm

I have been wanting a Stella necklace so I just hit order! Can’t wait!! Love your trip to Salt Lake. Makes me want to book a trip. 🙂

  • Kinsley January 20, 2017 at 4:54 pm

    • Mix and Match Mama January 21, 2017 at 6:08 am

      Navy!

  • Laura January 20, 2017 at 5:21 pm

I haven’t been receiving daily emails as I have been in the past that you have blogged for the day. Do you know if something is wrong? Thank you. 🙂

    • Mix and Match Mama January 21, 2017 at 6:08 am

The emails should be back on Monday :). Thanks for checking!

  • maria January 20, 2017 at 5:52 pm

i was wondering how madeley did while you were away???

    • Mix and Match Mama January 21, 2017 at 6:07 am

      She did fantastic!

  • Jillian Sasistella January 20, 2017 at 6:21 pm

Whenever I click on one of your links, it directs it to ‘rstyle’ then the item. Is this a virus?? Please forgive me, I am not tech-savvy so just double checking!!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 21, 2017 at 6:58 am

I emailed you immediately to make sure you weren’t concerned but you’ve apparently typed your email address incorrectly here because it bounced back :). It is not a virus, you do not have to worry. Sometimes I use rStyle links in post. Since I apparently do not have your correct email, please feel free to email me. Happy Saturday!

  • SMB January 20, 2017 at 7:20 pm

Hi there, I didn’t get a chance to comment on the landline debate. It sounds like you have already made your decision… but wanted to share. Three years ago three men broke into our home (with a gun) while my entire family was sleeping… when we woke up and when my husband figured out what was going on, he yelled to me to call 911. I had NO IDEA where my cell phone was, but I KNEW that landline phone was on his night stand. There you have it.
    Stay safe.

  • Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog January 21, 2017 at 12:52 am

I just saw your recipe for the citrus coffee cake and it’s making my mouth water. So on my weekend baking list!

Love the sweater you are wearing in the pic with the tussle earrings. Where is it from?

  • Amanda January 22, 2017 at 5:58 pm

Very smart to stick with the landline! My 5 year old took Safety Town over the summer & the police chief told us afterwards that 911 can only determine address location from a landline…so if a child needs to call 911 and does so from a cell phone and aren’t able to say where they are, the operator doesn’t know where to send help 🙁 so we had a landline put into our new house! It was definitely worth it!
Love your earrings & nail polish! The ski trip looks fun too!

  • Lindsey January 23, 2017 at 8:40 am

How do you set your watch face to show the actual numbers of calories, hours stood and minutes of exercise? I’ve been trying to figure it out since your Apple Watch post and haven’t been able to. Thanks for your help!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 25, 2017 at 4:51 am

You have to enter your personal info in the fitness app and then it will calculate!

  • Becky January 27, 2017 at 5:42 am

Hey Shay, can you tell us where you sweater is from in the tassel earring picture?? It’s darling!

    • Mix and Match Mama January 27, 2017 at 6:24 am

It’s an oldie from White House Black Market :).
