My friend Andrea makes the best Dr. Pepper cake. Have you ever heard of a Dr. Pepper cake? It’s a yummy chocolate cake with Dr. Pepper instead of water. The chocolate and sweet soda pair beautifully together. Don’t use diet…use the real thing. This cake (and especially the frosting) will knock your socks off…or maybe your flip flops off…it is summer after all.
Shopping List
1 box of chocolate cake mix
2 small boxes of instant chocolate pudding
1/2 cup of veggie oil
2 cups Dr. Pepper, divided
4 eggs
1 cup chocolate chips
4 cups powdered sugar
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
1 stick butter, softened
Preheat oven to 350 degrees
Grease (I use Pam) a 10 inch bundt pan
In mixing bowl, combine cake mix, puddings, oil, 1 1/4 cups Dr. Pepper and eggs with electric mixer. Stir in chocolate chips. Pour batter into prepared pan and bake 40-45 minutes or until toothpick inserted comes out clean.
Let cake rest on counter in pan 10 minutes. Then, invert cake onto serving plate to finish cooling.
To make the frosting, beat butter with powdered sugar, cocoa powder and a few splashes of Dr. Pepper. Spread on cooled cake.
Thanks for the inspiration Andrea!!

You never cease to amaze me. I would have run out of ideas after like 8.
I have not had a Dr. Pepper cake, but there is a Brazilian cake I know that uses Guarana (a brazilian soda) instead of water, and it is GOOD. Chocolate, coconut, and soda. This sounds great as well!

I stumbled across your blog…looking for new recipes…although I'm trying to cut back on soda, who can resist an ice cold Dr. Pepper?! Putting it in a cake – perf! I've only heard of the diet soda and cake mix recipe with nothing else. Can't wait to try this! Thank you and bless you!! 🙂

So glad I could inspire something that looks so yummy – curious as to why a piece didn't end up on my doorstep 🙂 Next time, lady!

This cake is so good! However, it doesn't taste like Dr. Pepper but I didn't care because it was a very good chocolate cake with a small taste of something indistinguishable–which was the Dr Pepper but you wouldn't know it without making it yourself. Thanks for the great recipe.

This one did not disappoint! My 7 year old said it was "plate lickin' good"! And that's just what he did ~ licked every bit of cake & frosting off of his plate! (and maybe I secretly wanted to do the same thing….) 🙂
