Hello friends!
Well, over my years of watching Dancing With The Stars, I come to realize one thing…the Viennese Waltz gets a lot of tough remarks! I’m not quite sure why (I’m not exactly a ballroom dancing expert), but year after year, when I catch episodes, if there is a Viennese Waltz, watch out…the judges seem to be hard on the competitors. That being said…I think this guy right here…
…did an excellent job! This was his first really serious dance (and by the way, I can’t wait until he does a Latin dance…I’ve never seen him shake his hips, so I’m really curious to how that’s going to go down!), and I thought he had nice form, the choreography was great, the music was great, it matched his theme of how 2012 was a great year for him…the Shull family was proud!
But…I do have a few other comments and observations from Monday night’s show…
I kind of think it’s stacking the deck a bit when you allow a person to enter the contest that won a gold medal in gymnastics only 8 months ago…
…I’m just saying…
Her dance was really, really good…but part of why she is so good is that she has had experience in floor routines, counting music, showmanship, flexibility etc, that the other competitors haven’t had. I wasn’t going to point it out…but when I saw her tumbling pass on Monday’s episode, I couldn’t take it any longer. She is incredible! But…is it fair to compare her to let’s say him…
…probably not. That’s all…Aly seems really sweet but there is just no way that she is an equal competitor to the rest of them (cue bitter, angry comments from my Aly fans). And by the way, once again, I found myself saying, “I just love Andy Dick”. Really…who knew he would be so likable lovable?!
My new favorite pro (besides Peta…I adore me some Peta!) is this guy…
…Val has all of the swagger and skill as his brother Maks but he doesn’t come across as arrogant. He is just so much fun to watch! Which is why I predict his partner…
…will make it to the top three for sure!
And then there is this lady…
…Lisa might have been down and out on Monday night…but she looked smokin’ hot! Holy cow! Lisa is 20 years older than me but geez, I’d love to have a bod like her’s today! Who cares if she is a weak dancer? She’s gorgeous on the outside and lovely on the inside…and that’s a winner to me!
Well…to add a fun twist to my week, I received this fun bracelet from Nicole at My Happy Place Shop…
…and since it’s fun and sparkly, I thought why not share it on the day I share DWTS with you…because they’re both just so fun and sparkly!
Nicole has a special offer for my readers, if you go to her site and purchase two jewelry pieces, she’ll mix and match you a third beaded bracelet for free! (And honestly, wouldn’t three be even more fun?!) Just make sure you leave her a comment with your order that says you’re a reader of mine.
You can also check out Nicole on Face Book here.
DWTS and jewelry…such a great combination! Want to know what else is a great combination? Me and Sheaffer…you must check out her DWTS Told Me To post today! Hilarious as always!

This is the perfect day!

"Cue the Aly fans" made me laugh out loud. Making me laugh out loud at 5:14 in the morning is impressive!

I also think Vendaya is at an unfair advantage…never understand why they put a dancer in the competition. But I agree that Val is great!

You crack me up! 🙂
I hear what you are saying but I'm not sure Aly has a great advantage. (by the way, Vendaya is way more of a stacked deck than Aly – she IS a dancer).
Being a gymnast and a dancer really are very different though. I actually think that Aly is probably just a very gifted hard worker and is extremely disciplined. Yes she has the advantage of knowing how to make her body move the way she wants. But imagine training your WHOLE life every day 8 hours a day to make your body stiff, hard, perfect, sharp, go from pose to pose. Even the way gymnasts walk you can tell they don't move fluid & loose like we do and they think of every movement.
Now she has to make everything fluid and try her best to *not* focus on perfect poses but a continuous feel. I think she actually has to put in a lot lot lot of work to do this. I think sometimes it's way easier to go in with NO training so you're a clean slate rather than trying to undo training of other sports.
Let's just admit some people can move their bodies, some can't. Some people can keep rhythm to a beat, some can't! hehe
We can disagree and I still love ya!! I may be totally wrong!!!
I WILL say that I was so impressed with Sean's dance this week! I thought his hard work sooo showed. It was so beautiful!! I loved it!
Enjoy your day girlfriend!

Randi Jo…yes, but let's face it…Lisa probably wouldn't have been kicked off if she had done a back handspring! 🙂 XOXO

Take out Aly's floor routine and Lisa still would have gone home. Sorry.

Good Morning Shay!!!…..I just want to say that I thought Sean's routine this week was very, very good….such improvement….I hated that he went first as that is a tough spot…the judges don't want to through out high scores with the very first routine….cause really?…his dance should have scored higher….based on some of the routines we saw later on and the sores they got…but oh well, he made it through…..I will say that while I do think Aly's gymnastic tricks are helpful…I didn't think that routine deserved the scores it got at all….Aly just doesn't seem to have that "it" factor….while I know we shouldn't compare, it is inevitable to do so between her and Shawn…..Shawn had the "it" factor and her musicality was so much better…and her personality just popped…..and I know that's not fair to compare but if you watch this show every season, you sort of can't help it…..Zendaya has is the real ringer in the group…she is a dancer….her show on Disney is all about dancing…and while I know it's not ballroom dancing…it still puts her way, way ahead of everyone else…between that and her 2 million twitter followers…she was way ahead of everyone else before this thing ever started…that being said..Val is doing an amazing job this year….last year, the sexy stuff he and his partner, Kelly had going on…totally turned me off….I completely didn't pay attention to what they were actually dancing….but this year, his routines are good…he is having to do something else besides sex…ha, ha….and surprisingly, for me, at least, he is killing it!!!!!….and yes, I am Lisa's age….and I would KILL for her body..ha, ha…smoking hot lady!!!!…sad to see her go!!!!

The deck is always stacked a little every year so it's not anything new. They had Nicole from Pussycat Dolls (literally a dancing/music group!) on there who won a few years ago, so it's just what they do. How boring if they had all very new dancers anyway — no one would watch it! There has to be some sort of a mix. And she's a gymnast … I'm sure they are related but I don' think they go hand in hand. Shawn Johnson did gymnastic stuff too (are back handsprings really that impressive?!!), and for some reason I liked her a lot more than Aly anyway! I don't see her making it all the way to the end even though I loved her routine on Monday.

1000% agree with you DWTS observations!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Agreed! I also think its unfair to have zandaya who is a trained dancer (and even kellie pickler who has sung and danced) against regular-non-dancers!

I am so loving Val this season too… what happened? Maybe taking away the bad brother made him more loveable?
I keep saying "I cant believe I love Andy Dick" over & over!!! 🙂
Your bracelet is the perfect mirror ball addition bling 🙂

I absolutely agree about Aly. I actually have felt that way about any entertainers that have been on the show in the years past. Andy Dick is so loveable and his dance actually made me cry. To dedicate to his daugther is awesome!

Shay, thanks SOOO Much for the feature on my bracelets!! I'm glad you love it, and it looks great on you! 🙂

I seriously thought that Sean did great! And I feel like I'm critical of everyone, but he looked really great to me.
I like Aly, but I don't like to see tumbling on the dance floor. This isn't "doing back handsprings with the stars." Tumbling isn't dancing, so I don't know why she and Mark would even put that in the dance. It's weird. And for some reason I'm not feeling any kind of connection from her. Meh.
I was a huge Shawn Johnson fan and big Kristy Yamaguchi fan on the show, and do think they have an advantage. But I think Melissa Rycroft is my favorite contestant of all time!
I am a HUGE Maks fan, but Val is growing on me. I liked him last year, but didn't like Kelly Monaco a bit. And I am loving Peta so much more with Sean than with Gilles. (They seemed a bit steamy, no?)
Gah! Wish we could all sit around and talk about all of this in the same room because clearly I have a lot to say about the show 🙂
I boo-hooed at the end of Kelly Pickler's dance when she walked toward her husband. I never liked her on Idol, but I think she seems so genuine and sweet. Derrick always picks the hotties, doesn't he? (Not a Derrick fan :-/ He's actually one of the few TV personalities my husband cares enough about to dislike. So random!) But I do like to see Kelly dance.
Anywho… I've rambled long enough! xoxo

I think they should give the contestants handicaps, like in golf. Or possibly give some of the score based on improvement. I'm glad they include fan votes, but that can get tricky too. All in all, it's just fun to watch, I love to see how the contestants improve over the course of the show. And the back stories this week really made the show!
Aubs says
Couldn't agree more with your observations! And Zendaya is in that same unfair category as Aly! Andy Dick…could he be any sweeter? He has completely and totally won me over! Sean did fantastic and his scores weren't what they should of been! Hope you're having a great day!! =)

If there is anyone who should not be on this show it's Zendaya. She's a professional dancer who has been training in all forms of dance since early childhood. She even appeared in a televised ballroom dancing special for her show with the professional dancers of DWTS where she learned and performed a ballroom dance with Derek Hough. She's a complete ringer and I wish the judges would acknowledge that she's a professional dancer and judge her accordingly instead of fawning over her and acting amazed when she blows everyone else out of the water each week.

Your brother brought me to watch DWTS, and I'm really enjoying not just his dances with Peta, but all the dancers. Your blog recaps are entertaining and fun. I was surprised not to read any thought you may have on how romantic Sean's dance was. Had me welling up! Your family is lovely, and I need to read more recipes off your foodie blog!

ohhh the things we think & talk about! I'm starting to have more grace for how much my husband talks about football baseball basketball and all the stories & players and who is best and who has the advantage and yada yada yada hehe.
Thanks to DWTS, the bachelor & blogs – I no longer think I can say to him – WHO CARES, this isn't important?! 🙂

Couldn't agree more about other dancers having a better advantage! Love this show and the blog! GO SEAN!!!

Loved Sean's dance this week! Loved seeing Sean dedicate the dance to Catherine! So sweet! 🙂

Hi Shay,
I was wondering if your parents are living in LA for DWTS or just travel out there each week to see Sean perform? I see them in the audience every week!

Hi Shay,
Thank you for writing your blog and opening up to the world. I was wondering if it is weird to have so many people now reading your blog? Do you get stopped when you are out and recognized? I know your fan base is young mamas (which makes it a little less creepy at least!) but it still must be nuts!
Also I think I have seen a dozen youtube videos of the paparazzi following Sean and asking him questions… how does he feel about this? He is always very polite but it must get hard. Is he looking forward to returning to Dallas?

I agree about Ali and the others having a dancing advantage… BUT this show is half votes and Sean definitely has a HUGE voting advantage. I am sure that Zendaya's 8 year old fans, Victor's boxing fans, Jacoby's football watching men, etc aren't eager to tune in to DWTS every week and vote. Sean was in the dwts time slot a week earlier and they just rolled him over from bach to DWTS – of course every Bachelor fan is going to follow him and watch (myself including). Plus I think if you look at the Bachelor/DWTS demographic, you will see that most people watch them both. So yeah, Ali can dance, but Sean was a ringer sent from ABC!
