Athleta is one of my favorite places to get swimwear. They make real swimsuits for real women. They also make their suits out of the most durable, shrink and fade resistant material. This suit here comes in a tankini, bikini, shorts and not-so-string bottoms. You can buy several pieces and mix and match them with their solids too. I highly recommend Athleta!
And so is this one! One piece suits don’t have to be boring!
How fun is this bikini by Gap?! You have two bottom choices with this one…one with more coverage and one with a little less. Such a fun color combo for summer!
What if you need a coverup? I have a few of those too!
I bought this cover-up several years ago in three colors and continue to wear it again and again. It’s easy to get on and off and looks cute with just a pair of wedges or flip flops after you’re done swimming.
This cover-up would look so cute thrown over any suit! It comes in so many fun colors too!
And this one just oozes summer! Love!
One last thing…what would a swimsuit post be without me talking about my favorite Shade of Shay…my shades.
I am an aviator girl. If I’m outdoors, I have my aviators on :).

Laughing. SO. Hard. Yes……I got on the get ready for summer train yesterday. I was on the exercise bike twice yesterday. TWICE. Ugh.

I despise swimsuit shopping, but I love your girl math!

I have taken the shopping alone a step farther- alone, in front of the computer with a virtual model so I don't even have to get undressed (well, at first!)! 🙂 Land's End has been a great source for me.

I do the same thing. I usually buy a few and return the ones I don't like to Sears.

Love your picks for swimsuits! I hate swimsuit shopping more than anything but now I think it will be a little more bearable this season!
Meagan @ The Clanahan Fam says
The gap suit is adorable. 2 rules for that one: order it online and have a glass of wine (or 2) before trying it on 🙂 That works for most of my swimsuit shopping.

So it's either have a saggy bum from a larger size bottom or muffin top from a smaller size bottom?! haha We can't win! 🙂

Love the suggestions on where to shop ~ i never would of looked at Athleta!! Having struggled with my weight for too long now, i admit that i have avoided wearing a swimsuit for years, but now that i'm losing the weight and getting fit, i'm hoping to find a couple of cute suits and enjoy wearing them this year!!

Will you be doing a 52 shades of shay with skincare please?!?!? You always have such pretty skin!

Do you prefer a bikini tankini or one piece??

So true about tanning! My trick is to buy a suit at the end of summer. Not because they are on sale, but because that's when I look best! I'm tan and I work out much harder in the summer! The only drawback is the selection is limited.

Good tips. I'll have to check out some one pieces (post baby)! I don't know what you have planned to share about work-at-home, but I would love to know how you keep everything organized (blog, business, kids, life). I struggle with that. Thanks Shay!

At this point in my life, I wear bikinis. I will do a skincare post and yes, I will cover all of the stuff listed next week!

I am purchasing the yellow sunglasses from The Loft. Super affordable. Thank you for mentioning them!

I was swimming laps at the pool over the weekend and I saw a girl in a bikini that clearly sized up in the bottoms. They were so big and saggy that they weren't even covering anything!

Do you use those self tanner pads all over or just on your face? The reviews for them all talk about them as facial tanners so I just wondered. Thanks.
Mix and Match Mama says
Dr. Gross makes body pads and face pads. I use both of them.

Oh If only I looked more like you……….
You have inspired me to go to the gym (and then shower after – novel idea!!) and dress up more …….so maybe one day I will be brave enough to get on a swim suit again. 🙂

I buy mainly Lands' End suits. You can mix and match and they are durable. ALSO you can order lots of sizes of tops and bottoms and try on AT HOME and return the ones that don't fit to your local Sears. Score!
LE suits last me years and years. I need lots of top support in suits and there isn't an inexpensive suit that exists with top support.
Others have recommended Athleta since their tops come in bra sizes. I just might check those out!

When you're up at 4:30am this morning (and I KNOW you'll be up at 4:30am because you are EVERY morning!) would you please please pretty please do a little scouting around for a great maternity swimsuit? You know, for us mamas-to-be. 🙂

I've never looked at the Athleta site. Great suits! I might give one a try…but first I must self-tan!

Love your blog! I may go swimsuit shopping this weekend because of your encouragement. And the fact that spring has finally arrived in the midwest 🙂 Thanks!

Land's End also has some great, and cute, bathing suits that make me feel comfortable chasing my toddler around the beach.

I love your picks of swimwear for summer. I love those one-piece. Not that revealing yet not that conservative. Great!
