I think this is my favorite weekly post to do…just pictures of my daily life with my little family.
Blogging is a funny thing. I’m scrapbooking my life so that I can look back later and reflect on where we’ve been and how we’ve changed, and so that we can look back and remember the fun times and good days we’ve had.
But when you blog…you invite the whole world into your life and let them be apart of your scrapbook. The majority of the comments and email I receive are so positive and friendly…and I cherish each and every one of them. Some of you are so faithful to comment every day and you constantly bring a smile to my face. You really do warm my heart.
But then there are a few of you that comment often about how you want me to change. You want me to be more negative, you want me to talk about this less or that more…you just don’t want me to be me.
I will never be the kind of girl who gets on here and lists my problems…who focuses on the negative. This isn’t the place for that. This is a place for Kensington and Smith to look back years from now and see who their mom was before she had them, who she became after she had them and how we grew as a family.
I love to be positive. I love to have giveaways that just might make someone’s day if they win, I love to share my Fifty Two Shades because honestly, the feedback and enthusiasm from that is just out of control (apparently everyone is painting their nails now)…I just want this to be a happy place. Not to say I haven’t blogged trials and tribulations…infertility, miscarriage, 18 months of morning sickness, two surgeries, braces, speech therapy…I have shared some really hard days with you…just not all of them.
My life isn’t always a happy place…but that’s really between me and my most intimate circle of friends and family. Do you include your hard times in your scrapbook? Probably not. It’s a place for remembering the joys and happiness of life.
So…welcome to my week. Was it all positive and fabulous? No. But did I have some great moments and spend time with people I love? Absolutely!
Day 162: Happy Tuesday!
Day 163: I found my happy place while the kids napped…coffee and Golden Oreos.
Day 164: After a morning of Vacation Bible School, we decided lunch at Sonic was the best treat!
Day 165: They asked me to pull over (3 houses down), so that they could “walk” home.
Day 166: I spent the Saturday before Father’s Day with my fabulous father! I love him so much!
Day 167: Father’s Day lunch with my favorite 3 people!
Day 168: This is what my Monday looked like. 🙂

Amen! I absolutely agree with you! I've had people make similar comments to me too, like how on FB I'm always sharing happy things and positive things. It's not that we don't have hard days or moments but what good is it to broadcast those and become a complainer?! Very thankful for blogs like yours that encourage and uplift and make me HAPPY to read! Keep doing what you're doing girl! =)

Great photos. 🙂

Beautifully written. I love your sweet pictures and stories about your family. Sometimes, people try to expose what's wrong with you because they can't handle what's right about you. I love your blog the way it is and I think you're so inspiring!
Chris and Erica says
I love your blog. Quite honestly I've stopped reading the mommy blogs who just seem to complain, when I just think about how lucky they are. The positivity is refreshing!
Amy says
There's so much negativity in the world and it's a treat to see your positive outlook on things. Keep it up & you'll keep us smiling 🙂

I enjoy your happy, positive, blog. The thought that you can find beauty in the small things, like pool bags, is contagious!!! : )

I enjoy reading your blog every morning before going to work. You have a sweet family. My children are young adults and looking at yours makes me remember all the fun, sweet things we did. They will cherish this as they get older. Just keep going the way you are, there are naysayers everywhere and seem to want to bring others down. I will never get that 🙂
Linda says
That picture of Kensington and Smith "walking home" is about the most precious thing I have ever seen! Holding hands, no less! I got up early this morning and turned on my computer for one reason–to see your blog. 'Nuf said.

People really say your TOO positive? Is there such a thing?! I love reading your blog in the morning BECAUSE it is so positive and uplifting. I found you because of your brother being on the Bachelorette and ever since I have enjoyed getting to know you and your family! Keep on keepin on!

Don't you change a thing!! I love your blog and read it every day! Because of you, 3 of my expecting girlfriends have gotten the book Sparkly Green Earrings, and a fabulous pair of Stella and Dot earrings! 🙂 And I've realized NOT to buy a size up in a bathing suit bottom! But above all, your kids are getting the most amazing gift…I would kill to have something like this to look back on from my mom's point of view! Thanks for sharing your life with us!
Beth says
Don't listen to the negativity! I look forward to your blog every morning- keep being you, it's very encouraging!

You continue to inspire!! I absolutely love your blog and look forward to reading it every morning. I'm not even a mom, but find it so fun to see what your family is up to, and absolutely love all the recipes, shopping tips, etc. (I now own 3 pairs of "THE" wedges- woops! 🙂 You've given me the idea to do something similar for my kids when I have them in the future. I always look forward to Mondays after the weekend b/c I know there will be a post! Keep it up and ignore the haters!!! 🙂

Shay based on the comments that I've read, I think I can speak for the majority of us and say we appreciate your positive outlook! I know personally, you have helped me through a hard period in my life which you probably had no idea that you did. Just know that there are sooooooo many that get a blessing each and every day from your blog!
Mrs. Harvey says
I don't usually comment, but I read your blog daily, and I love it! Don't change a thing, and I too wouldn't post about the hard things on my blog/scrapbook!
Heather says
I am sorry you have to deal with people trying to change you and your blog, but I love your blog, especially your 50 Shades of Shay. Why would I come to your blog everyday to hear you complaining about all the negative things in your life… I love your positive attitude and it is contagious! Keep up the great work!

I'm so glad I found you and like your blog just the way it is.

I just love how you let the kids walk home from 3 houses down! I remember reading your post about trying not to be a 'no' mom. I find myself more and more trying to say 'yes' more when my oldest daughter asks to do something. (Within reason of course) Continue to be 100% you… that's all that matters!
Tammy Twiner says
Girl I love your blog -it is probably one my favorites! I am so glad I found it. Don't let people tell you what to blog -(I really don't understand people sometimes -geez) but just do your thing! And I made your hawaiian cake last night -it was REALLY good! and you've inspired me to do my own blog cause I used to scrapbook and gave up -but I love pics and talking so therefore started the blog.
Alice says
I'm glad you are positive! I couldn't help but think about Romans 12:2 "do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewal of your mind".
Elaine~ Honey Pie Accessories says
Ha! I totally thought, i'm going to be a grown up and paint my nails! Only for it to chip the very next day! So, I repainted the next night and they chipped again by that morning! I gave up after that!
Tammy Twiner says
Girl don't let people influence what you wanna write about on your blog! I love your blog and its one of my favorites, AND so glad I found it! I don't understand people sometimes – geez – but let it roll off your back. I made your hawaiian cake last night and it was SO good. (also made the strawbery and cinnamon a few weeks ago) Also you inspired me to do my own blog because I used to scrapbook and gave up – but I love taking pictures and talking so I decided to do blog. 🙂
Carlin Smith says
Shay, you are absolutely right about this being a scrapbook for you. I keep a blog, too, and of course, I don't put the crappy stuff on there. Nobody has pages of bad things in their scrapbooks…just like we don't put the ugly pictures of ourselves on Facebook! I certainly don't!!! I love your blog! It's a living example of a Christian family! And I don't know what in the world we would have for dinner anymore if I didn't read this and a few others. 🙂
Alison S. says
That's why I like reading your blog – it's funny and happy and light. I don't want to read a blog filled with negativity and issues! I am pretty sure the fun food and happy photos and shopping trips and more don't interest all people but then they don't have to comment on here about it – just stop reading! We (the loyal readers) love what you do and who you are! Continue the great work Shay!

Maybe those people haven't actually suffered and still think negativity is always artistic. I have been recovering from losing a baby shortly followed by a subsequent pregnancy that came with severe morning sickness. Losing a child and becoming starved and dehydrated lead to some pretty dark places. Knowing you've struggled too but reading about your high energy and beautiful family, fun food, awesome nail polish, and a whole slew of girly things that all add up to one empowered mom have really given me hope and fun and contributed to my healing in a way I never thought jcrew shorts could, ha!! You are awesome and strong. Keep doing what you're doing.
Kim R says
Shay – I am glad you won't be changing. Your positivity on this blog has led to me looking inward about how positive I am in my relationship with my family. I enjoy coming on here first thing in the morning so that I can start off my day with a smile! Thank you for providing this great blog to read!
Carla says
Kensington and Smith are blessed to have you as a mom.
Mel Tales says
I adore your blogs!! They have become some of my favorites! I couldn't agree with you more! Don't change a thing.
Sara says
I read a variety of blogs, but I have realized that the ones I come back to are the positive ones. I have stopped reading the other ones. When I post on facebook, I post something positive and happy. This doesn't mean that negative things don't happen to me as they do to everyone but I choose not to dwell on it. I read your blogs and Sheaffer's first in the morning because they make me smile. I sometimes am envious of your great figure and ability to travel, but this inspires me to be a better version of myself. Thank you for keeping it positive! I'm happy to read about what you choose to share. I can tell how hard you work!
Brittany F. says
Don't change a thing. That's why we all flock to your join in with your daily scrapbook! AND, you're correct on nail painting. Mine have been a pretty shade every day since I read your post. I've never been able to do my own without smudging until I read some of your tips. Magical. Grateful.

I love your 'coffee & cupcakes' mug! Where did you get it? Good for you for sticking to your guns, this should be your happy place and who cares what anyone else thinks. I love your blog 🙂
Lauren K says
I only read a few blogs, Peanut Butter Fingers and yours. (I found yours through PBF when she talked about your brother being on The Bachelor.) I read your posts every morning on my train ride to work so I can start my day with a dose of positivity and happiness. So, thank you for being you and sharing what you do!
Christine says
I enjoy reading and hearing about fun things. If people don't like what you blog they don't have to read. It really is that simple. I know you can't say that but it is true. I enjoy your style and will continue reading!
Meaningful_life says
This is my first comment. I've been faithfully reading your blog every morning when I get up because it does bring so much positivity and smiles to my life. I don't even feel like you are one of those over the top happy-all-the-time kind of people that annoy you, I definitely know some of those. You are so honest and exude friendliness. One of the things I love about you is how you embrace who you are so wholeheartedly, I hope to achieve that kind of sense of self at some point too. Thanks for being you!
Jenessa says
Hi Shay! I love your blog- read it every day! I really look forward to seeing what you've been up to, what your life is like and what makes you, you! You've also been part of the inspiration to get me to start my own blog! Thanks for being a bright spot in my day!
Chelsea says
God bless you for being YOU!!!!!
{Hi Sugarplum!} says
so well said!!! thank you for staying true to yourself, and helping to brighten my morning every time I stop by here!
And love all your shorts…I'm a big colorful shorts fan, too.

I love your blog and totally agree with you! You have actually inspired me to start my own blog and "scrapbook" about my own little family. Thank you!
Tiffany (A Touch of Grace) says
First I just have to say that pic of Kensington & Smith walking home is freaking adorable.
Now, whoever says you should be more negative obviously doesn't understand who you are. I've never even met you (although I do talk about you on a first name basis to my husband; you and Sheaffer both), but I do know you see the joy in the little things and your smile is contageous. I appreciate your positive outlook; you have been such an inspiration to me in my blogging journey. Don't ever change who you are girl (but you know that)!
Jenna {Real Simple Girl} says
I love that you're always so positive! We need more of that in our lives. I often think that when people focus on the negative it's because something is missing from their lives, and that something could be God. So glad you have that testimony to share with everyone, too. And I think it's so neat that your kids will be able to look back on all the fun times through your blog!
Andrea says
Can you imagine scrapbooking your negative days?! Taking a picture while crying so you can remember how horrible that day was! HA how silly. I love reading your posts!
Spencer and Michelle says
I love that. People need to realize life is messy and beautiful all at once. I heard once, I think it was in a book, if we could rewrite God's story for us, would we really? Because all of those trials help shape us into who we are and help us to appreciate when things are going good.
I always say, sometimes a boring life is a good life. I love those mundane days of no make up, folding laundry and playing with my babe.
Trish White says
How sad for the naysayers that they don't have anything better to do than to harass you about your blog. Keep being the real you…that's what we enjoy about your blog and why we read each day. Those other folks can just sit on a tack!
tiff prater says
I love your blog! I've learned you can't win either way. If you post negative stuff people will comment saying you need to be more positive and the sad thing is that if you post nothing but positive things many people think you're sugar coating your life and that no one can be THAT happy. Anyway, I enjoy your blog and love reading it. You inspire me to be more organized, more girly and spend more time doing fun things with my kids. I'm also hoping you'll do a shade of shay on relationships perhaps? And maybe give some tips on what you've found has worked in your marriage? We seem to be struggling a bit over here so any advice would be great! 🙂
Dawn says
I have been so happy to have found your blog! I always look forward to your posts and they bring a little sunshine to my days!! 😉 And you have brought my many new wonderful recipes!! I am thankful for you!!
Jaclyn Johnson says
Shay, I too read your blog each.and.every.day and look forward to it as well! It seems so many do the same thing, so obviously whatever you're doing is just fine, just keep on doing it Momma 🙂
RebeccaLynn17 says
I look forward to your blog each day BECAUSE of your positivity, grace and happiness. Thank you for being your authentic self and for your honesty 🙂 Keep on doing what you do best!! God Bless you & your family!
Kaylyn Marie says
You go girl!! People always say that to me too, " You're always so happy… don't you EVER have a bad day?!" … well of COURSE! Doesn't everyone? But I learned a long time ago that just because I'm having a bad day doesn't mean that I need to make everyone else have a bad day too. I love how positive you are. This world needs more light- and you definitely let it shine! Thank you!! 🙂
Hayley Chandler says
Thanks so much for sharing your life with us. I almost look at you like a big sister. Crazy, I know!!! You have given me so many great ideas that are so practical and helpful as a first time mom. I also just recently started a family blog to document my family's life in large part because of you. Thanks again and keep being you!
E @ Oh! Apostrophe says
Amen! I can't stand those comments either. I mean, do they put lots of pictures of their kids throwing tantrums in their photo albums!?? Do they write down to remember all the fights and whining and etc? No! Ignore the haters 🙂
Lora G says
Very well put! I love reading your blog (I too have started painting my nails after years of not doing it). Anyone who doesn't understand that you are simply trying to be positive and remember the happy things in YOUR life shouldn't read your blog. As for me, I love it, keep the posts coming! 🙂
Brittany Bladow says
I am so glad that you dont get on here and rant about negative things! When I am having a rough morning I know I can count on you to make it a little brighter. I never used to follow bloggers because I mean I dont know the people that are talking about their lives but now I dont really think that matters. I read some blogs just for recipe ideas or fashion tips but then there are others like yours that I read because they make me happy and they show the world how family is really supposed to be. So thank you for being you and blogging exactly the way that you do.
Anonymous says
I love your posts and think you a wonderful blogger just the way you are! I think your attitude is inspiring and when I have a rough day, your blog is one of my go to pick-me-ups and it reminds me to look on the bright side and smile! I hope you never feel like you have to change, because you definitely do not 🙂
Nicki says
I will never understand why people feel the need to voice their opinions about how someone blogs. If you don't like it, don't read it – seems pretty simple. I Love reading your blog each and every morning and staying true to you is what makes it so great!
Shelley says
Goodness, how sad is someone's life if they complain that you're too positive.
I quite enjoy your blog and am very happy I stumbled across it.

Love your blogs so much. Blogging is such a "happy part" of my day and I only follow happy positive blogs/people! Thanks for being one of them!

Hope you're having a great day!

The fact that anyone would ask for negativity just blows my mind. Keep up the happy posts, nothing like some happiness and nail polish to brighten my day .

I adore the stories you share and the beautiful life you have with your family! Who wants to really read about rants and complaints as we all have them in our everyday life and as you mentioned, many of them are of a personal nature. I personally go to blogs to escape for a bit and enjoy and be inspired by other ladies stories and lives. Keep on doing what you're doing and your kids will have a beautiful place to reflect their childhood and what a beautiful and fun life their loving mommy have provided for them! What an awesome gift this virtual scrapbook blog is!!
Scarlett's Mama says
I am fairly new to your blog (and admit that I started following it when Sean was on The Bachelor!) but now I read it because it IS so positive and so relatable! I feel like you and your little family are like friends now and it has become something to look forward to reading as soon as I get to work! There is enough negativity in the world and we all certainly have our fair share of it, so it's nice to forget about that for a few moments each day on here… Thank you for sharing your life with us and being such a positive inspiration to this new mama!
Kristal Strong says
I love your blog!! And I love that you are positive and let us who don't personally know you share in that. I strive to be positive in my everyday life but that doesn't mean things are always "peaches and cream." However, I choose to keep my focus thankful and positive. So, thank you for doing the same!!
Oh, and my bff Mia won one of your giveaways…they make people's days even if they don't actually win. I was so excited for her!! 🙂
Aubrey says
SONIC. Mega drool. So hungry for cheddar peppers right now…
The single negative comment I get about our family blog is that it's so positive that it has to be fake. Somewhere people got brainwashed into thinking that positive is not REAL. That's total BS. In real life, the good times and the bad times are all mixed in and jumbled up. Which parts will you remember the most? Which parts to happy people focus on? THE GOOD TIMES! So keep on scrapbooking, girl. The hard times are a given. Celebrate those joys each and every time they come your way. We are so blessed that we both have so dang many.
Olivia says
Ahhh…so many comments…hope you read this – I just wanna say I LOVE your blog (as most do). It's shocking to me that people suggest or say certain things. Just shocking. Can you imagine picking out scrapbook paper and stickers/pictures for all the negative things you go through? Haha…nope! Anyway, wanted to let you know your schedule (working from home post) has really inspired me to get my butt in gear and on a strict schedule. I just started my own business and MUST find a scheduled time to work because I find it tempting to work when I'm with my son. I'm going to make a sign (early bird gets the worm and a scripture one…which is my business) to put on my desk as motivation in the morning when I'm wishing I was in bed! All that to say, thanks for posting and letting us in your life. I know it's a lot of work and sometimes hard to be so open, but I (we) appreciate it! Here's to this night owl waking up in the morning! 🙂

Please keep blogging. Please keep it just the way it is. Because I love it!

Hi Shay! I love your blog and found it by mistake, and have since read it everyday! Unfortunately there are always people out there who want to bring you down. They have a hard time with seeing other people's joy and happiness. Keep doing and writing the way you are. It is a pleasure to read and look at your pictures. I guess pray for those who want to bring you down, that God would lift them up!

I try to not post a lot of negativity on my blog too. Sometimes it's a hard balance to be true to you and to always be positive. I guess happiness is sometimes work to find BUT I always find I have many reasons to be happy if I just look!

By the way, I forgot to mention this in my earlier comment, I have never worn shorter type shorts. I have always been too insecure. But, after reading your post on shorts I decided to go get some of the shorts you recommended. I didn't tell my husband until I put them on one day. He came home and said, "Wow! When did you get those? Don't ever wear long shorts again!" Thanks for the tip!
Shoshanah says
I think it's always a little ridiculous the people who complain bloggers aren't real. Yes, there are, but when you blog you get to choose what part of your life you want to share. I think you make so much of your life public, you get to draw the line. And I imagine with everything with the bachelor, where you draw the line may have changed, which is fine too. It's one thing to know there's 100 or so people reading, but knowing there's 1000 or so is quite a different thing.
Beesmama says
I love your blog! I love that it is positive and I think it is very 'real'! I look forward to reading it every day-keep up the great work!

I love reading your blog! Thanks for sharing it with all of us. I always read while I'm having breakfast.:) Your nail polish post inspired me to begin painting my nails again. When I was a teacher I painted them all the time, but when I switched professions to become a personal chef, I let it slide since my hands are in water so much during the week and who wants to find chips of hot pink polish in their food?! Now every Friday I take a little time for me and make my nails pretty for the weekend. I went into Target shortly after your post for the Essie naughty nautical shade. I came out with THREE different shades and no naughty nautical b/c they were sold out! Now I have the naughty nautical shade too! 🙂

I look forward to reading your blog every day and hope you don't change a thing! We all know that no one's life is perfect and happy all the time, but I don't necessarily need to know every detail…just keep doing what your doing! I, for one, will keep on reading!

First, double stuffed golden Oreos are so good! I need to have one (or five) now. Second, your positive attitude is the reason why your blog is so successful. No one likes a hater! I'm probably too old to use that word but there it is!

I totally get that your blog is a highlight reel of your family and no one wants to relive their daily bloopers down the road…but what do we all love about the blooper reel? It shows us that the people we are "watching" are really real people too and not perfect. I mean…isn't everyone's favorite part of the Bachelor and Bachelorette the Bloopers portion? Hours and hours of love story and we fans live for those 60 seconds of funny, hillarious, and sometimes embarasing moments of the cast members that we have fallen in love with over the season as the show aired. Perhaps people are just saying "show us your bloopers?" Its all good. I love your blog. I started reading it from the beginning about a year ago. You are a great writer and I appreciate that as your blog has grown, you have remained humble.

umm… what baffles me in "bloggy world" is that people have (a) the time to write something like that to you and (b) the viewpoint that they would want to read that kind of thing? Honestly girl- I love your blog and I love the joy that you share in the little and the big things and it inspires so much of us, myself included to look for the joy in all of the moments in our lives. Thanks for being YOU and sharing that with us! 🙂

Everyone blogs for different reasons. I blog as a diary, so I write about all kinds of stuff– happy, mad, sad, whatever. You blog as a scrapbook for your kids, and that's totally ok. If I wanted my kids to read my blog some day as a way to look back, I would write something COMPLETELY different. Don't let anyone tell you how to write. It's YOUR blog!
