July Pinspired

And it’s July!  My least favorite month of the year.  I’m sorry…but it is.
I live in Texas.  June is hot but it’s fun hot because it’s the first of summer (first swim, first shorts, first snow cone, first everything)…but by July…I’m over it!  August is great because pre-season football starts, the September issue of Southern Living arrives and coolness starts to creep into my mind (it doesn’t actually creep into the air but if I close my eyes, I can pretend it’s coming).  July is just 31 days of heat.
However…thanks to Mel and Sheaffer, I am taking July as a wonderful opportunity to dig into my closet, get creative and pull together some outfits to keep me looking good despite the nasty weather.  We’re getting Pin-spired today!
I want to look patriotic this July 4th without looking like I wrapped myself in the American Flag…so, I took my cues from this Pinterest photo…subtle and sophisticated and most certainly red, white and blue.

Easy to recreate out of my closet, white shorts, red striped tank, chambray shirt (like) and navy wedges (like).

My nails are OPI Cajun Shrimp (thanks to all of your suggestions!).  I love it!  Because I’m blond, I think I look best in gold or rose gold jewelry. You really won’t ever see me in silver.  Click here for a great gold watch option.

Mollee V made my necklace.  Love, love, love Mollee V!

And now for outfit #2.
I’m sure you guys all think my favorite colors to wear are neon pink, neon coral, neon orange, neon yellow, neon purple…because I do love my neon colors.  But actually, my 3 favorite colors to wear are pink, green and navy.  I decided to remove pink (because you have all seen 3,678 pictures of me in pink) and just wear navy and green.  This was my inspiration photo…

And this is how it worked out. (Do you see my monkey portrait in the background there?  It’s actually really something special…and I love it to pieces but the crew of the Bachelor thought my mom and I were insane for having these paintings in our homes!  She has one and I have two.  I love my monkeys!)

I’m wearing those same white shorts…I really, really love them!  And right now, they are marked down sooooo much at Gap!  A pair of white shorts will last you years and years…and as you see today, they can go with everything.
I also love these striped tanks from Gap (which are also on sale!).  And click here to see my navy top (lots of other colors and they’re on sale now!).

Not the best photo of my foot but I wanted you to see my shoes. I bought them two years ago and wear them all the time.  A great neutral shoe will last years and years!  Click here for similar options.
Don’t forget to link up below…we love seeing how you were Pin-spired this month!  (And I would also love to know what your least favorite month is…I know everyone has one month they like the least!)
Don’t forget to head over to my foodie blog…today is my suggested July 4th menu!  You don’t want to miss it!
Lots of love to you this July!

So adorable! My least favorite month is February. Holidays and New Year are over and it is so cold in MN! No birthdays to celebrate either.

  • Samantha July 1, 2013 at 11:57 am

    Your patriotic look is perfect!

  • whimsyatheart July 1, 2013 at 11:59 am

Love both looks! You've inspired me to get my chambray shirt back out!

My least favorite month is August because it's so hot and the summer is almost over. But, I do enjoy celebrating some special birthdays that month!

Great minds think alike…we both did denim and white AND navy and green! Love your looks!

  • Kathy Olson July 1, 2013 at 12:31 pm

Your comment made me laugh about the Sept.Southern Living issue arriving in August. I get excited about that, too!

  • Sheaffer {Pinterest Told Me To} July 1, 2013 at 12:46 pm

Yes. Those white shorts are a closet staple! I wear mine constantly. Everybody MUST buy them. Love both of your looks!!!!!!!

  • PippaMAC July 1, 2013 at 12:48 pm

Love the first outfit and those neutral shoes you have worn for years! Don't you wish you could somehow know when you buy a pair of shoes that they will be your favorite ever so buy them in every color or at least 2 of your favorite color! 🙂 pippa

I'm in love with those shoes! Love the 4th looking. Such a great pick 🙂

  • Lynn {A Taste of Country} July 1, 2013 at 1:05 pm

I have Cajun Shrimp on my toes right now & I love it as well! My least favorite month would probably have to be February or March because that time of year just seems so boring after all the holidays are over.

  • aprilparrish July 1, 2013 at 1:42 pm

Love the navy & neon paired together!! And love both pairs of shoes!! Have a great day!

  • Linda July 1, 2013 at 2:20 pm

I can't see the monkey picture. Could you please photograph it for us? What I do see is your Grandaddy's clock, which I will forever picture Andrew running out of the house carrying under his arm in case of fire. Oh, and you look darling.

  • vanillafrog July 1, 2013 at 2:31 pm

My least favorite is January, but July is probably second.

  • Meaningful_life July 1, 2013 at 2:38 pm

Hey Shay, this comment may be better suited to your shorts post but I don't know how to find it now. I have a question. How do you wear short shorts so well!? Like I find that whenever I try on short shorts, they feel tight and uncomfortable and make my butt look big. Like I haven't worn a pair of shorts since I hit puberty and I am a normal-sized girl. But when you wear short shorts, they have class yet look good. Please help!

  • {Hi Sugarplum!} July 1, 2013 at 2:44 pm

You look adorable…and I love you in navy!

  • Aubs July 1, 2013 at 2:55 pm

So…I LOVE the July 4th holiday but have otherwise always been right there with you. I am just not a hot weather girl AT ALL and July is pretty much miserable. Of course, 2 years ago Dylan came along and gave me another reason to celebrate in July but the faster it goes by the better!!!

Blue/Green looks amazing on you!! Love it!

And your monkey portrait totally made me giggle! ha!

  • mel @ the larson lingo July 1, 2013 at 4:55 pm

That second outfit!!!! LOVE!!!!!!! I am all about navy & green. Way cute!

  • Detroit Duchess July 1, 2013 at 5:16 pm

How funny – my favorite month is July because it is my birthday month (July 7) and I love the 4th of July.

It does get pretty hot here in Michigan, but I try to rock the summer dresses to beat the heat.

I love your navy wedges and tan heels!

  • Jenna {Real Simple Girl} July 1, 2013 at 5:23 pm

Shay! Both of your outfits are perfection!! I love that I already have all the pieces to re-create them, too! You look awesome!

  • Mix and Match Mama July 1, 2013 at 7:14 pm

When picking out a pair of shorts, you have to make sure they have stretch in them (like the Gap ones do) or go with Chino instead of denim (like either the Gap chino or the J Crew chino). A chino material will make everything look a little more polished.
