I loved this little breakfast recipe so much that I went ahead and mixed and matched it for you!
I found the top version (Cherry Oatmeal) in one of my Gooseberry Patch cookbooks and thought it was so yummy that two days later, I mixed and matched it into Apple Cinnamon Oatmeal. The best part about this recipe is that you prepare the oatmeal at night and let it cook in the slow cooker. When morning came, we had yummy and hearty oatmeal waiting on us (and the house smelled delish!).
This is the perfect breakfast for busy weekday mornings!
Shopping List
3 cups regular oatmeal (not quick cooking! basic oatmeal!)
1 (21 oz) can of either apple or cherry pie filling
1 cup of water
1/4 cup powdered sugar (for the cherry oatmeal) or brown sugar (for the apple oatmeal)
2 tablespoons cinnamon (for the apple oatmeal)
Line your slow cooker with a slow cooker liner (for easy clean up). Add in all of your ingredients and stir to combine. Cook on low 6 to 8 hours.
Remove lid the next morning, stir and serve.
Simple! Simple!
Using the liner will make cleanup a snap too! Your family will be well fed and out the door in no time.

These look amazing! I hate cooking breakfast in the morning too so it would be perfect to be able to make these ahead!

This looks yummy! How is the texture of the oatmeal (if that even makes sense)? Meaning, is it pretty moist like regular oatmeal or does it have more of a baked oatmeal taste??
Hopefully that's not too confusing of a question! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Great question! It has more of a baked oatmeal taste. It's not watery…more baked.

♥ this idea!!! We are empty nesters & looked forward to this….tho, I am allergic to apples & cherries, we don't like! I tried using Blueberry Pie Filling w/powder suger & followed the rest exactly as you said…we thought the Cinnamon would add a good flavor. In the morning, it was sooo very thick, we couldn't eat it??!!! Maybe not enough water w/this using Blueberry??!! Any ideas for me? I'd appreciate it very much!

How many ounces was your can of blueberry pie filling? I've made it several times now and though it is thick (as pictured), it is delicious nonetheless. Sorry you didn't have better luck!

I made this this morning and it was stuck to the liner. Is there a way from keeping it from sticking?
Mix and Match Mama says
It will stick a little bit (because oatmeal is kind of sticky) but you can always spray Pam in there first to help!

So I made the slow cooker apples – but in a different form. I cut up the apples into about 8-10 pieces each, put them in an uncovered pot on med-high heat for 10 minutes, then transferred them to a cookie sheet, and baked them WITH the oat/cinn/br sugar/butter mix for 25 minutes. I think the oven was around 350. We liked it quite a bit. It's kinda like an apple crumble.

What size crock pot do you use? I only have one of those big stew size pots, but I'm wondering if it's too big?
Mix and Match Mama says
I use a 7 quart slow cooker for everything (they're the big ones!).

Would it be possible to make this with pumpkin? If so, what do you suggest I use? Thanks for all your yummy recipes.
