My kids and I love making Rice Krispies Treats together. They’re simple, they’re fast, they don’t require the oven and they’re a blank canvas for almost any occasion. For our summer holidays, we decided to make our treats red, white and blue. So simple, so quick, so fun, so patriotic!
Shopping List
3 tablespoons butter
6 cups mini-marshmallows
6 cups Rice Krispies cereal
Red and blue food coloring
Grease (I use Pam) an 8×8 inch baking dish and set aside. Put two cups of cereal into 3 separate bowls. Set aside.
In a microwavable bowl, melt 1 tablespoon of butter (about 30 seconds or so). Once melted, add in 2 cups of marshmallows and coat with melted butter. Microwave another minute or so until marshmallows are melted.
Remove from microwave and immediately stir in a few drops of red food coloring. Working quickly, pour the red marshmallow mixture down over the cereal in one bowl. Mix well and then spread the red cereal mixture across the bottom of your pan. Pat evenly (I spray Pam on a spatula and pat it down with that).
Repeat the above steps two more times (on the next time, you skip the food coloring for your “white” layer).
After you pat down your third and final layer (blue), you will be able to cut the bars into squares and enjoy!
These are not only yummy, they are super simple to make and perfect for kiddos in the kitchen.
Enjoy!
