If you know us at all, you know that we are a household divided. I’m a Red Sox fan and my husband is a stupid dumb hate their guts hope they lose the rest of their games Yankee fan.
I know.
Poor me, right?
Every year, I go to Boston with my dad to see the Sox play a few games and Andrew goes to New York to see the Yankees. Last year, I took Kensington with me (because she’s my smartest child and loves the Red Sox) and we had such a good time that we decided Smith should go with Andrew this year (I’m still praying that one day, he’ll come to his senses).
Usually we go at different times during the summer but this year, we decided to go to the airport together, depart for the East Coast on separate flights, see our teams play and then meet back at the airport a few days later. It was our vacation divided. And it was so much fun!
The morning of the trips! Nothing says fun times like waking up at 3:00 am to head to the airport! We were all so excited that we didn’t even care. We said goodbye to the boys and Kensington and I met Lovie and Papa Jay and the four of us headed to Beantown.
At the airport, ready to go to Boston!
After a good nap on the flight, we arrived in Boston by 11:00 and headed straight to our hotel and then to Faneuil Hall for lunch and some shopping. We brought a stroller with us because we walk all over Boston and I didn’t want little K to worry with keeping up.
Enjoying our lunch! The weather was BEAUTIFUL! Considering it’s already really hot and humid in Dallas, the high of 61 that first day was perfection to us!
Papa Jay and his girls
Kensington loves looking at the boats.
Lovie and me 🙂
We are all dressed and ready to head out to the game!
My little crew on the subway. We always have so much fun together!
Just a reminder in case anyone forgot…we won the World Series last year :). We’ve actually won it 3 times in 10 years…just in case you forgot (ahem, my Ranger friends).
We went and visited our brick of course!
Posing by our brick 🙂
The temp was 45 and we were game ready!
Love, love, love spending quality time with just this girl!
She enjoyed hot chocolate with her Fenway Frank…
…and cotton candy too.
We beat the Braves and went back to the hotel happy Sox fans!
The next morning, we boarded the subway and headed to Harvard. I saw Papa Jay and K holding hands (so sweet).
On the subway headed to Harvard!
We always love strolling around Harvard and Cambridge.
Lunch at our favorite brewery, John Harvard’s!
Love my mama!
This kid has my heart.
Seriously, she is my heart.
For the second game, mom and Kensington stayed at the hotel and ordered room service while watching the game on TV (true Sox fans!). Dad and I enjoyed the second night just as much as the first even in the rain!
It was raining pretty much the entire game (not hard enough for a rain delay but hard enough for a poncho and Wellies). We saw our brick one last time.
We had the best night!
And in the bottom of the 10th, our Red Sox won. Two wins in two nights…the perfect ending to our little trip.
So, what did the boys do in NYC? They had a pretty awesome time too…
…here they are before boarding their flight. Love these boys!
Checking out the view from his hotel room.
They hit Serendipity hard! My boys love a sundae!
My friend Katie’s brother-in-law is Adam Jacobs…Aladdin on Broadway! How cool is that?!?! Andrew and Smith had tickets to the show and when it was over, they got to go backstage and meet Adam. Andrew said Smith got super shy meeting Aladdin in person :). Andrew said the show is really good and that Adam did a fabulous job. If you’re going to NYC anytime this year, you need to see it!
The boys went to FAO Schwartz and Smith selected this Thor costume as his prize. I showed Kensington this picture while we were in Boston and told her to brace herself…Smith was coming home with a giant weapon looking thing!
Smith’s favorite food is Italian, so the next day, they had lunch in Little Italy.
Dressed and ready to head out to the Yankee game!
Elevator selfie 🙂
The boys went to the Yankee game on night two and Smith loved it! I hate to say this…but I might have two handsome die hard Yankee fans in my house now :).
Smith sleeping on the subway back from Yankee Stadium. This kid was tired!
We all had such a fun time on our trips! We moved and then two days later, went out of town. Our heads were swirling but we had so much fun. The best part of the weekend? Meeting back up in the airport when our trips were over.
And one last thing…a sweet reader named Tana emailed me that there is now MLB stuff at Nordstrom…and I about flipped out! It’s so hard for me to find Red Sox stuff in Dallas, so I was thrilled to see this! Look at this cute stuff for both girls and guys…
Coasters, Guys Red Sox Henley, Girls Red Sox Sleeveless Tee, Guys Detroit Tee, Flip Flops, Mariners Tee, Yankee Cuff Links, Girls Yankee Tee
I went through and randomly picked teams…trust me, your team is most likely there too, I just couldn’t feature all of them. There is just so much more of this MLB goodness (sweatshirts, zip up hoodies, tanks, jerseys, hats and more). Click here to see it all.
I’m thinking this would make a great Father’s Day gift. You should order your dad some stuff (and then throw in something for you too!).
It’s baseball season!
Thank you so much Tana!!
Dinner tonight is a super simple casserole…
…my Sausage and Broccoli Tortellini Bake is easy and yummy!
And if you missed out on our fabulous Erin Condren giveaway, you need to click here!!
Have a great day!

You're right!! You moved in and then left your new house two days later like crazy people!! But I'm glad you all had so much fun! Super fun to see all the pics!

Shay,
Even though I hate both of those teams, I really appreciate your love for baseball and passing that on to your kids. I also grew up in a baseball family and am having a blast teaching my daughter about baseball. Whoever said baseball was only for boys!! We are diehard O's fans, but went up to Boston a couple years ago for a game and have to admit, it was a beautiful city! We loved it! However I could never root for a team with David Ortiz on it though…what a horrible role model! That aside though, great post and great job with the baseball love!

Hi, just wondering if you can say what hotel you stayed at in Boston? Love that city but could do with more hotel locations! Looks like a great trip.

Ahhh! I love me some Big Papi! Trust me, if he had an Oriels jersey on, you'd love him too :).

I love this! I was tickled to see that Andrew and Smith got to see ALADDIN! We had just seen it a couple of weeks ago and it is a great show. I'm thrilled you are giving your kids such rich experiences at such an early age, they will be lovers of travel and adventure for sure. Both trips looked really fun, glad you posted this!

I love love love Boston (the city, not the team lol). Visited for the first time last summer and can't wait to go back. How about a post about all things Boston (besides Fenway and the team). Where do you stay, what do you do and see. Suggestions etc etc.
We found it such an easy city to get around and the people were so friendly. We stayed in the Seaport District when we went and with the T being so great and easy to figure out it was a great location but would love other suggestions. Thanks.

We live in Colorado and are Red Sox fans!! We went to Boston a few years ago and decided to see a game mostly for the history at the stadium. Fell in love with the team and the city!

My husband and I want to go to Boston for a 4 day weekend for our anniversary this year. Is October a good time to go or will it be freezing?

Love Boston. Love my Red Sox. Love walking around Harvard. Basically I am jealous of your weekend! And you got to see two great games!

Love me some Big Papi too!! Thank you so much for showing beautiful Kensington in her stroller!! When my girl was a little younger I used ours for travel a lot, and would get a little grief for it, but their little legs have a hard time keeping up for an entire day!! It kept both Mama and her girl happy 🙂 !

HOW FUN!! I've always wanted to go to Boston and NY, not really for baseball reasons, just to go there! Your husband is such a trooper! Mine would be like "I'm not taking selfies!" ha!! Looks like a fun time was had by all! 🙂

This was one of my favorite posts. That was such a good and cute idea to take them on separate trips. Your kids will always remember that special one on one time!

What kind of stroller do you travel with?

To the poster who asked, October is a great time here in Boston…it can be cool, but fall is great here!
Where do you suggest staying while in the city Shay? I know where I tell visitors to stay, but am always interested in hearing other's thoughts..especially when they take the T..

Hi Shay! Love your blog. When are you going to post pictures of your new house? I'm sure we're all dying to see it!

Adam Jacobs worked with my daughter when she starred as "Little Cosette" in Les Mis! He is amazing! He married someone from my hometown and now I'm wondering if I know your friend Katie? 🙂 very fun connection!

Great post! Beautiful pics of everyone (even the Yankee fans). Your love for each other just pops off the screen! So glad both "teams" had a great trip!
"My team" (Oakland A's) is playing the Red Sox here next weekend. Love you, Shay, but rooting for the A's!

Oh Shay, I have to disagree. If he was an Oriole, I would be embarrassed! Especially when he started smashing phones in the dugout, pubically declares that his team stinks, or speaks his mind about everything. I hate the yankees…but hate that man more than the yanks combined. 🙂
Paula says
Smiling so hard at all your pictures!! You guys are soo fun! Thanks for sharing!

We always stay at the Wyndham near Faneuil Hall. It's within walking distance of so much plus the subways stations are near. We really like that part of town!

Love this post! I'm a huge baseball fan too. And this is going to make me seem like a TOTAL stalker, but when I got to the pic of Smith eating in Little Italy, I couldn't figure out why the scene looked so familiar. Then I realized that's the same place you were in the picture you always post of your favorite scarf! Okay, stalker moment done! 🙂

Where do I start?!?
1) Love the idea of taking separate trips! And love that you went with your parents!! I'm officially going to start hounding my mom to take a trip with me and Sloan.
2) Can't even deal with how cute K looks in pigtails and a ball cap.
3) Love your shorter do!!
4) Happy happy weekend!!

I love everything about this post (minus the Red Sox, lol)! I am a huge Yankees fan myself. My dad grew up in New York and raised me as a Yankee. I imagine the hubs and I doing something similar when we have kids as we are a Tigers/Yankees house divided.
I love having something special to share with my dad and I think it's awesome that you both are able to share your baseball love with Smith and Kensington.
Jaren says
Looks like both were fun and special trips! We have a local friend whose son just got called up to play for the Red Sox and got his first major league hit (I think at one of the games you went to). His name is Garin Cecchini…a huge baseball family here in Lake Charles. Such excitement down here that he's playing for the RED SOX!!

I can only imagine how irritated you get when Brits refer to you as a "Yank." 😉

John Harvard's! One of my favorite restaurants in Boston. I lived in Boston for 4 years before making Texas my home. Such a great city, and growing up in New England, the Red Sox have my heart!
