Today is July 31st and the high in the Dallas area is only 80 degrees. It’s going to be a great day :).
This week…we’ve been up to not much. Just hangin’ out and enjoying summer…
Day 204: We were eating gummy worms before 11:00 am…that totally must mean it’s summer.
Day 205: When I’m old and grey, these are the lunches that I’m going to miss the most.
Day 206: Pretty typical…Smith is completely oblivious and Kensington is laughing behind him because she was stealing his Dibs without him knowing. Poor Smith.
Day 207: My two boys on Saturday morning.
Day 208: I looked down at the checkout line and Kensington was “reading” a cake mix baking magazine. Is this my daughter or what?!?!
Day 209: It’s hard to believe that five years ago, eight of my closest friends and I were all expecting babies and now…they’re all going to kindergarten! Andrea and I hosted a little Kindergarten Back to School dinner for these sweet kiddos and their mamas. 2027 is going to be here before we know it.
For all of the details, read Andrea’s post here. Listen, we co-hosted this little dinner but we all know that Andrea is the creative genius behind everything. Thanks friend :).
Day 210: Andrew was really surprised the other day when I told him that I had never been to In-N-Out…so, I rectified that. Lunch in my car was really tasty on this day! Apparently, I need to go back and order off of the “secret menu” but nonetheless, I enjoyed my burger :).

For those of you linking up, Pin-spired will be Monday!!
August 4th is the day to link up!
And on the foodie blog today…
…I mixed and matched my little pie cup method to create Chocolate Cream Pies! They’re so simple and soooo good (you use sugar cookie dough to make the crust!).
Have a great day!

What a great idea for the kick off dinner for your future class of 2027. I hope their senior year you did it again and take the same picture. My son graduated this year and we had two other friends with kids same age. All started soccer together , kindergarten together etc. In 3rd grade, all 3 of us moved to different areas and are about an 1 1/2 hr away from one another but keep in touch daily. Last fall when our kids were all getting their respective senior pictures taken we got them all together for a picnic and had pictures taken of the 3 of them together in front of their elementary school they started at and mimicked the picture we took that 1st day of kindergarten on those same school steps. Treasured photos/treasured memories….you're kids will never forget it.

Poor Smith!!! Hahaha!! Love that sneaky girl!!

I'm loving the weather here today, I live in the DFW area myself. I usually don't care for rain but if its cooling down this good old Texas heat I'll take it.

My daughter, Molly, starts kindergarten this year as well!! I can't believe how fast she is growing up!!
So what's the "secret" menu?? 🙂
Slightly Askew Designs says
Girl – I will host with you ANY time! I love any opportunity to do my creative "thing" 🙂 hahaha And yes – 2027 will be here WAY before I want it to. College Kickoff dinner?!?!?! Hopefully it will be a little quieter, but it will probably cost more to feed them. 🙂 LOVE YOU, FRIEND!

Darling Kindergarten Kickoff Party! In N Out is my favorite! We live in GA and don't have them here, but we were recently on vacation in CA and I truly believe that In N Out is responsible for my crazy weight gain on that trip! Ha!

That picture of A and S is precious. And I'm soooooooo going to miss our lunches with all of our friends and all of our kids. And the Kn kick-off party was too much fun! Such sweet memories! Love you friend!

You have to try the secret menu at In & Out. I'm from California, so I think I've tried them all. My kiddos don't always like hamburgers, so when we go there get we them a grilled cheese. They love it!

How fun they will all go to school together!
Secret menu…ask for your hamburger or cheeseburger 'animal style'…they cook the onions and then put them on the burger. Heavenly! Also, you gotta try the fries 'animal style.' They cook the onions and then pour them over the fries with cheese and dressing and melt it. You gotta eat them with a fork but they're wonderful! You can also get a protein burger…the burger is inside a lettuce leaf.

Mmmmmm….I love In & Out. Sadly, I live in Oregon and we don't have them here, so we always make sure to stop at one when we're traveling. 🙂

Oh my gosh! You'd never eaten at In-N-Out?! I didn't even know they had them in Texas! Here in California there's practically one on every corner. You need to get your burger protein style sometime! And also, you can ask for grilled onions on it instead of fresh. Delish!

Loving this weather in the south this summer!

California girl here and I second the animal style burger. Also, since I know from your food blog you like a little heat, you can also order "light chopped chilies" and they will chop up a few yellow peppers for just the right added kick! 😉

Is there a reason why you didn't bake the cupcakes yourself for the party? You pride yourself on your cooking creations. I am really surprised that you did not bake your own cupcakes especially since your co-hostess created her own decorations.
Mix and Match Mama says
There is a mom of one of Kensington's friends at school who makes the cutest cupcakes. Erika used her for Ebby Lee's birthday and I thought they were adorable. She just stopped teaching in June and is going to be baking cupcakes full time out of her house, so I thought I would order some for her. Not only were they were super cute, but I got to help a mom with a new business. I'm even going to use her again in September for Kensington's birthday because they were so cute.
I do pride myself on baking and cooking but not on cupcake decorating. What this mom does is an art form…plus, I really like helping other mamas.
As for Andrea's decorations, Andrea threw a party last year where she used all of those decorations (that post is on her blog from last August), so she told me she was going to pull out those decorations from last year, I said that I was going to bring the cupcakes and we split the cost of the food and drinks.
This was a really special night for us and our kiddos. I'm so glad that I have such a great group of friends to celebrate these life moments with.

The way you answer some of those snotty comments SO sweetly is worthy of medal! Keep on shining, girl!

In Texas, you enroll in kindergarten the year you're five on September 1. Kensington's birthday is September 15…so last year on September 1, she was only four which doesn't qualify her for kindergarten.
If your child has a late spring/summer birthday, you can wait one year to enroll them so that instead of being the youngest in their class, they're the oldest.
It really depends on your kids maturity level at the time, but yes, there is flexiblity when you enroll your kids. My kids are both enrolling the year they are fie on September 1…which for Kensington, is this year (and then 14 days later, she'll turn six).
Laura says
Can you explain why kids in Texas don't go to Kindergarten until they are six? In Tennessee they go at 5 and are starting 1st grade at 6. I don't understand the year difference. Did you all just want to keep your kids home an extra year or ???
dresselfamily.blogspot.com says
shay, I had the option of putting then in so the youngest inthe class, or putting it off a year, and have them the oldest, I.chose the latter, and never looked back!!
