Happy Friday! I’m linking up with my girls Erika, Andrea and Narci and sharing my Friday Favorites. I hope you have a great day!!
This is just a random tip for your Friday…this week, Ashby got a hold of a pen and marked all over the front of her dress. I immediately sprayed the spots and washed the dress…and they didn’t come out. At that point, I did the smart thing and consulted Pinterest where I read that spraying hairspray on pen marks gets them out. I sprayed the spots, lightly dabbed them and they all came right out! I washed it again to get the hairspray out and they all disappeared. Just a little tip. Thank you Pinterest :).
Question for you now…I have tried several things but don’t just love any of the results…what do you use to clean off your chalkboards? I would love some suggestions! I use the chalk pens and it’s hard getting them off my boards. Please comment below and share!
On Monday, I shared pictures of Ashby’s room and there were a lot of questions about paint color and such. So, here you go…
Paint Color: Sherwin Willilams’ Merry Pink
Bedding: Pottery Barn
Pictures above the bed: We bought them on vacation years ago in Bermuda and had them framed at Hobby Lobby.
Pictures next to the dresser: I think they came from TJ Maxx or Pier One…I can’t remember but some place like that!
I’ve mentioned my sweet friend Megan’s online boutique before, and since she was so kind as to send Ashby, Kensington and I some tassel necklaces and bracelets, I thought I should share it with you. Heart and Home Collection has everything from colorful tumblers to stationary to jewelry to scarves…everything (plus a lot of great seasonal stuff!). You can visit her site here. Megan is such a super sweet mama of twins…you’ll love her ;).
And while we’re at it…I had so many questions about these four little bow heads on my Easter post. My cousin’s wife owns One Stop Bow Shop and therefore between my two girls and her two girls, we have the bow heads covered! If you need a bow (or two!), you can find Casey’s store here.
And my two favorite blue shirts are perfect for April weather…
I love me a gingham shirt and this blue one is great with my jeans and Converse for errand running on a weekday (and will transition well with shorts this summer too!). It’s also available in pink :). And I love, love, love my blue floral shirt. It’s light and breezy and per-fection for spring! (And it’s 50% off today too!!)
See…I just keep wearing this shirt :). This time, when I had brunch with three of my favorite mamas. xo
Just a reminder that I always have a Stella & Dot show going on. You just click the logo on my sidebar or click here and you can see it. I’m wearing my Smith necklace in the floral pic above and my Shay necklace in the gingham. I have a necklace with each kiddos’ name on it plus one that has our wedding anniversary on it. Sometimes, I wear them all together and sometimes, individually. These are great Mother’s Day and graduation gifts!!
Today, Stella and Dot launches their summer collection (pictured above). Woohoo! You can see everything here.
This month, my Stella & Dot rep is donating $1 for every bracelet sold to the HollyRod Foundation in honor of Autism Awareness. Great bracelets and a great cause!!
And so this is super random…but for dinner tonight, we replaced tortillas with big kale leaves in our enchilada stack and the results were so good! The edges of the kale got all crispy like a kale chip and the honestly, we didn’t even miss the tortillas. For a lightened up Friday supper, click here to see my Chicken & Kale Enchilada Stack.
Have the BEST weekend friends!!
xoxo

I agree on the Magic Erasers!!! Pinterest helped me with that one! That kale and chicken dish looks fabulous!!! Your four little bow heads are adorable!! And…happy Friday, Mama!

Thanks everyone for the tips on the chalkboard. Shay, where do you get your chalk pens – Hobby Lobby? I've been using everyday chalk on my board, but don't always get the look that I want, if that makes sense. Always enjoy Friday Favorites – Happy Friday!

Spray Windex (or the Method alternative) on your chalkboards and the chalkboard pen comes right off!
Love all the darling pics of your kiddos from this week and am looking forward to browsing through the Stella and Dot jewelry later today. I already ordered my big "spring bag" from your show a few weeks ago and LOVE IT!!!
Danielle Kirchner says
Use Mr. Clean magic eraser (just get a corner damp) and then wipe it off. Use a dry rag to wipe the moisture off and keep writing. It works great when you make mistakes a don't want to start from the beginning again! 🙂

agree with all of the other people suggesting Magic erasers for getting the chalkboard pen off the chalkboards, that is the only thing that worked for me! 🙂

Magic Erasers for chalkboards! And after awhile I slap a coat of chalkboard paint on (it just totally freshens it up).

Hairspray. ..great tip!
Mr. Clean sponge erasers work great on so much. I bet chalk too.
I love all your sweet family photos. The Easter picture of Smith and his girls…priceless!

I actually use windex on my chalkboards.

Coca-cola! I pour it on a washcloth & wipe= super black brand spankin new boards. Orange soda worked for me once when I was out of coke. Or, at a restaurant I just save a little soda w no ice in my cup and I have enough to clean my boards wout going to the store!

Definitely magic erasers!

I use a Magic Eraser like everyone has suggested… and it's definitely the best method of anything I've found… but it STILL doesn't get it completely clean. I can still see the old writing underneath on the chalkboard.

I started reading your comment about the pen mark and I said to myself "hairspray" then I read you found it on Pinterest. 🙂 Love your blog! Happy Friday!!
Lindsay says
I had the same problem with chalk pens on my chalkboard and started using Magic Erasers and well…they're MAGIC! I used to spend forever scrubbing and now it takes seconds. That totally sounded like an infomercial. Ha!

Happy Friday, Shay!! Thanks for introducing me to the Heart and Home website… cute stuff!

I use Caldrea cleaner, I also use for my granite and it's better than pledge for your wood.

Water and white vinegar does the trick in a spray bottle. Half and half of each. A small bottle works well.

I love your blog and you always look great! I'm curious if you tuck your shirts in completely, or just in the front.
Thanks! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
In this pic, I just have the front tucked but I also wore it to church with a pencil skirt and tucked the entire shirt in. It works either way! (I also think it would be cute untucked with a tank underneath!).

Another easy and 100% effective way to get out ink is any toothpaste that contains baking soda. My daughter found a sharpie marker and marked on our wood floor, wall, dishwasher, and printer. You just put the toothpaste onto the stain and scrub. If it doesn't start to come off right away, let it sit on the stain for 20 minutes and then use a damp washcloth and it will lift the stain. It also worked on Gentian's Violet, which is a treatment for thrush in babies…basically a super intense purple dye that spilled on our cream carpet. I scrubbed in the toothpaste and it took every last ink drop out. And it doesn't leave an odor behind besides mint 🙂 I keep a tube of the arm & hammer brand toothpaste with my cleaning supplies.

Like everyone else, use Magic Eraser. It gets just about everything out!! We use chalkboards at the restaurant where I work (and our nametags are also mini chalkboards) and this is what we use when we can't get it out.
also, i wish i could just go shopping in your closet but love when you post the links of your outfits. you have such great style!!

I use a Magic Eraser on my chalkboards. Works like a charm!

Magic Erasers! They are the best!!!
Betsy says
Just like everyone else mentioned, I recommend using the Magic Eraser. It's great for getting the majority of the marker off, especially if it's sat for awhile. There's always a residue left though so then I just wipe it clean with a damp cloth or paper towel. Works like a charm!

We used windex and it worked well.
Lolabell82 says
I use a mix of white vinegar, rubbing alcohol and water, equal parts. It's amazing for chalkboards, wood floors, granite or any stone countertops, windows…basically a dream multipurpose cleaner …. no streaks all shine!

I use a Braham chalkboard cleaning cloth. I am a teacher, and it is amazing on the board and makes it look brand new. You can get it on Amazon!

Hope ya'll have a wonderful weekend. xoxo

I haven't tried the Magic Eraser on the chalkboard, but I have had success with the product Goo Gone to get crayon marks off a chalkboard and just clean the chalkboard in general. After using the Goo Gone I clean the whole thing with Windex.
