2. Invite families to dinner: We had one family over for dinner and then one family over for lunch. Summertime meals with friends are some of my favorite moments of the year!
3. Begin Christmas shopping: I have three words for you…Nordstrom Anniversary Sale. I hit it hard and got several gifts for people in my life! Come December, I’m going to be super excited that I have these things tucked away!
4. Pray for others: I’ve been blogging now for 8 years and I don’t think any post has been as meaningful to me as the one when I asked for prayer requests. Oh how I’ve prayed. I’ve prayed and cried this month over prayers more than any other time in my life. Not only have I prayed, but I know so many of you have too. I can’t even begin to tell you how grateful I am for this community of ladies. You are so faithful, so sweet, so caring and so sincere. I’m going to continue praying for these requests indefinitely. You all have a special place in my heart.
5. Walk 5 miles a week (extra): Yeah, well this didn’t happen. I walked every week but not five miles. I was going to prayer walk (you know…pray as I walk), but it didn’t happen as often as I would have liked. Instead, I prayed the most early in the morning while my kiddos were still asleep.
6. Back to school shop: Yes! I started with shoes for my kids and then got them backpacks too. I still need to get them a few new things to wear but shoes and backpacks were my first priority! (I got them Pottery Barn Kids small backpacks…Kensington loved hers last year!)
That wraps up July. If you want to add your prayer request to my post, you can see it here.
It’s Monday…
…and I have your meal planning already done for you! Five simple suppers for you this week! Click here to see.

Christmas Shopping?????? You're crazy!! I am a hardcore week-before Christmas girl. The majority gets shipped on amazon prime and then I take a whole day without the boys and hit the shops hard. It's so festive. And stressful! But that's half the fun 😉

Giving and receiving notes are so fun!! And yes to Chistmas shopping….I love getting started early!

Is there a lunch box you recommend?? First year the I have to pack a lunch! Any tips????
Laura Fuller says
My family has used the Pottery Barn backpacks for years. We graduated to PBTeen this year. We have always used the matching lunch boxes. They attach to the backpack nicely. Don't splurge on the water bottles, though (they leak…two years in a row).
Jess says
Do you buy the matching lunch box?? Or can you recommend or give any tips about lunches for kids?? First timer here!!

The PB Kids Lunch Box is great! We like it better than the backpack even! It attaches to the bag and it's large and insulated.

Love love your heart for praying for your bloggers.
We ordered the pottery barn zebra print backpack in small with turquoise monogram and it turned out so cute! Three more weeks to enjoy these kiddos.

I love the note idea! Enjoy your last month of summer!

We just got our PBK booksacks and lunchboxes in on Friday, and they are so cute! We ordered the MacKenzie Classic Lunch Box, and it is a great size. It's nice and deep to fit a drink and a thermos really well. We also ordered the large booksack because my kiddos will need to fit their binders, and I wasn't sure if the small would be big enough. This was my first booksack/lunchbox order from PBK, and I love them so far!

"Having no goals for August" can be your goal for August! For someone who likes to be super productive with every hour in her day, having no goals for the month can be a challenge and a goal in and of itself 🙂

I love receiving letters or cards in the mail. What a fun idea to pick 1 person each month. I might have to do this as well. 🙂

Ok so I'm relieved to see you bought your kids the small PB Backpack and they were a good fit! My Ike is heading to 1st and I ordered him one since that's the size they suggest and it was so small! My friend was about to rip out the embroidery so I could fix it up for my two year old instead. Silly first world fear, but I'm still relieved. Enjoy your August!

We are going on year #3 with a Pottery Barn backpack – it is holding up so well I just can't justify a new one yet!! "The faithful, fervent prayer of a righteous man avails much"! Keep praying Shay!

Wow we basically wrote the same thing today. Crazy! I love your goal about writing notes to people. I want to start doing this because I know I LOVE getting things in the mail 🙂

Just ordered my son's backpack from PB (he's starting Kindergarten) and was debating between small and large…glad I went with small! Ordered the matching lunch bag since it was almost half off!

Your goal writing (even if it is to have no goals this month!) always gets me thinking. I can't wait to create a few goals of my own to most about this week. What better time to write goals that a month before I get married. Right?

I love the idea of writing one letter a month. The whole concept of "writing letters" seems time consuming, but when you put it that way, it seems much more reasonable. I think I'm going to try it out:)

Hi Shay! Can you talk about what size bookbag you got for Smith? I love the PBK bookbags, but don't have a store near me and don't want to guess which size is appropriate for a little boy entering Kindergarten. My (first) son starts at the end of this month (insert me sobbing!)
Three Gals and a Guy says
Hi Shay! We are also looking at sending a Kindergartner off to school this month! I did create August goals but for the most part they are related to shopping for school- so shopping is always fun! 🙂 I also ordered the small sized backpack from PotteryBarn- so many fun options! Good on you for Christmas shopping already- I am one of those last minute shoppers!
Lauren says
What did you get for shoes for the kiddos??! Do share!! 🙂

Any girl shoe ideas for the new school year? I got my daughter the gold & silver stride rite mary janes you linked to last year and LOVED them! 🙂

Shay, I meant to send you a personal email but the day you asked us to read through the comments in the prayer post. I got a healing while I read through them. I had some dental work in the beginning of June and was in so much pain and couldn't sleep for weeks and I had my first good night sleep that day. I just felt the Lord's peace flow in. God is so good. Keep up those prayers. I'll always keep you in my prayers. XOXO
