Every Monday, I post my Meal Planning Monday which you can see right here. Five simple suppers to make your weeknights a breeze.
Snow.
Last year, we didn’t get snow until February and March…so, we still have time. But right now, I’m thinking about snow. I could really use a lazy snow day right about now.
Well, January is the month of celebrating around here…so that’s what we’ve been up to. We kicked off the month celebrating Ashby’s Gotcha Day…
…both occasions called for fried rice. Apparently, that’s how we celebrate in January!
I told you guys last February that I had my first mammogram at 33. And then, because they thought they saw something, I had another one. And then in August, I had another one as a precaution. And now in February, I’m having another one. That’s four mammograms in 12 months. Apparently, I’ll be getting at least one a year for the rest of my life. Due to family cancer history and some other markers, my doctor feels like I should get them annually now. So…I’m dreading that. It’s not fun girls, but it sure is important! Skin cancer and breast cancer are on my radar…so, I’m taking every opportunity to get check ups on both of them. I hope you do too.
Well…quite a few things.
On Monday, Cakes hits book stores nationwide along with…
The 10 of us are trading in this cold weather gear and heading on a cruise this spring. I.cannot.wait. #mamaneedsavacation #evenifitiswithsixkids
I posted my January Book Review on Monday. I read four books this month that you might want to check out. See that post here.
And as for what I’m watching on TV…it’s all over the place…
…I mean, there’s this. Wowzers! I think everyone is watching this…it’s a train wreck and I can’t look away.
Speaking of train wrecks…
I took a few years off from watching The Bachelor, but I’m back this season because I really like Ben. When Sheaffer and I went to the Men Tell All over the summer, he seemed really sweet, so I’ve committed to his season :).
And I am beside myself about this one…
…who’s with me? My inner 12 year old cannot wait until February!
After Christmas, I turned off my holiday music and started looking around Pandora for a new station. I found this French Cooking Music Radio station and love it! If that’s your kind of thing, then you’ll love this station too!
Layers.
Speaking of scarves, two of my faves from this fall are still in stock (which is very rare!)…
Valentine’s Day 2015
I’m excited about Valentine’s Day! We make it a family affair around here, so it’s something we all always look forward to.
I think I covered it all!

Those UGGs are cuuuuuuute! Now I'm mad that I talked myself out of buying UGGs this year! And the French cooking station is getting a listen today. I've been listening to a folksy album we bought on the west coast of Ireland, and it's such a lovely soothing sound. Especially when contrasted with kids yelling, whining, shrieking, and meowing. 🙂

What are your booties called and who made them? I search eBay and it's amazing what old styles you can sometimes find new! Thanks

I also have breast cancer in my family. Both my mom and sister are battling breast cancer. I am age 41 and see a breast surgeon to manage my care. She has recommended alternating mammogram and MRI with IV annually. So every 6 months I am having either a mammogram or an MRI. I am sorry to hear that you are dealing with this as well. I hold my breath every time I have to go in but early detection is so important. Good luck with your mammogram!
Elizabeth Birenbaum says
I feel ya on the mammogram screenings! I'm only 31 now but my mom passes away from breast cancer when I was 17 and her mom way before I was even born (my mom was 21) so I've been all over that. I had the genetic testing done (which came back negative – thankfully! – though I was SHOCKED) but my doctor is taking extra close watch. I start mammograms at 34 (or earlier if I can convince her). It's so so important to get checked! I so agree.
Karen says
