Things that are: HAPPY!

Well, apparently, I’ve started a series.

Back in the fall, I wrote a post called Things that are: COZY.  And then over Christmas, I wrote one called Things that are: SPARKLY and today, it’s Things that are: HAPPY.
Because happy is good, right?
I like to be happy.  Life is short…and sometimes, it sucks…but boy, when we chose happy…even the sucky stuff is a little better.
I was pinning the way the other night while watching The Real Housewives of Atlanta (something that makes me happy), and as I was pinning to one of my oldest boards, I got this post idea.  Back years ago when Sheaffer forced me made me encouraged me to get on Pinterest, one of the first boards I created was “things that make me happy” because sometimes, you see something that doesn’t quite fit into any category…but it just makes you happy.  So, I have a board for that:

Today, I’m sharing random things that just make me happy.  It’s a bunch of silly little nonsense that just makes me smile…

Ha!  There are five things in this one picture that make me happy.  
First, my One Year Bible.  Friends, you should start this!  The Bible is divided into 365 sections for you to read once a day.  Now, they’re labeled January 1 through December 31, but you could totally get one and just start on January 1 even though it’s February 8.  No matter what date you start, start on January 1 (at the beginning).  If reading the Bible through has ever been on your to-do list, then I highly recommend this!  I use the One Year Study Bible in the NLT version.
And…I couldn’t read my Bible first thing in the morning without my little light.  I have several of these around my house for reading.  Once you have a little light, you can’t go back.
And of course, a cozy blanket, warm pajamas and nail polish all make me happy.  If I could stay in my chair all day long in my pjs, under my blanket while holding God’s word, I would :).

Netflix makes me happy.  How on earth did we live before Netflix?  I don’t know who created this bundle of happiness, but if I ever meet Mr./Mrs. Netflix, I’m going to kiss them. xo

Every single night after dinner.

This makes me so happy.

I don’t drink lattes very much anymore, but on occasion, I’ll make myself one at home for a mid-afternoon pick me up.  Latte plus workout pants plus slippers makes me happy.

My heart mug makes me happy too.

 The dog is not allowed on our furniture.  That is our Andrew’s rule.  That being said, every morning when Andrew leaves for the gym, she hops up on the back of the couch and snoozes until the minute she hears the garage door open and then she hops right off and doesn’t get back on the rest of the day.  This little ritual makes me happy.  It’s like an inside secret between the dog and me.  I know she’s breaking the rule, she knows I know…and yet, I let her get away with it because…I’m a softie.

Erika and I try to walk around our neighborhood once a week.  It starts off as a strong walk and then somewhere down the road it turns into either Starbucks or the grocery store (because they sell made to order breakfast burritos)…and this really makes me happy.

And these two squirts are along for the ride…and they make me happy too.
So, these are just a few little things that make me happy.  They’re not big, they’re not extraordinary, but they’re appreciated.

    It makes me happy to think back to how not only did I have to force you to get a pinterest, you had to get on facebook to even apply to Pinterest! I mean, that's pretty dang funny when you look at your social media followings now!!! And here's something that makes me happy: an afternoon nap. Although extremely rare, nothing makes me much happier than a nap!

    Hammocks, hiking, buying a new candle, coffee with a good friend, coffee at any time ever, comfy clothes, something delicious brewing in the crock pot, fancy brunch with girlfriends, snuggling with my hubby, a good book, Netflix, baths before bed, a glass of wine while cooking supper, visiting a new place, antique shopping, going "home" to my parents' house…. happy happy happy!     I love this post!! I did Huffington Post's 30-day Happiness Challenge (You can see it here: http://www.huffingtonpost.com/entry/huffpost-happiness-challenge_us_569414a3e4b0c8beacf807ce) because I just needed to do something different for my resolutions this year (how many times can I have working out & eating healthier be mine?!). I would highly recommend going through all of their "challenges." They were all so fun! Your post reminded me because one of the challenges was to create a "Vision Board." This was super easy/fun because I did it on Pinterest! I am definitely one of those people where I see things on Pinterest that don't really fall into any category so I pin them to my "Random" board. Now that my resolution this year is to just be HAPPIER, I pin them to my Vision Board so I can go back and look at all things that make me happy. 🙂 Thanks for the post, Shay!

    Oh my goodness, I love that you let the dog stay on the furniture. That is totally me! I could never follow that rule in our house either. And NETFLIX! We've had it since 2002 and I'm telling you, I would never be able to live without it now! I mean, hello, Parenthood streaming whenever you want to watch it?! Who doesn't want that??

    Do you have a Nespresso? I got a Nespresso DeLonghi for Christmas and I love love it. I still go to Starbucks, but when I need a Latte early morning or afternoon, it's right at my finger tips. I use coconut milk or almond milk instead of whole milk, so I feel like it's healthy!!

    I love that quote….I used it for the first cuff I ever order from Farmgirl paints! Happy is so underated…I love being happy and I think the older I get the easier it is to see the little things that can make me happy! I totally love that the sweet puppy story..so funny.

    I love your secret with Poppy. Hope Andrew doesn't read this and get on to you! I agree with Schaeffer, an afternoon nap makes me happy. Curling up with a book and reading till I doze off = perfection.
