Hello life lately.
So far this week:
1. We’ve had a case of strep tonsillitis
2. We’ve found some dead rats.
3. We’ve had rain.
4. We’re looking forward to the weekend! #amen
Needless to say, it hasn’t been dull. (If you’re new around here…rats and I go way back. We were roomies together for about a month…)
So this is like the most precious thing EVER! Ashby told me the other day that we have the same smile. I mean…my heart about exploded out of my chest. She loves to look in the mirror at our matching smiles. When you don’t exactly look like your mama…it’s good to find something you take after ;).
Breakfast outside because it was GORGEOUS!
My kids like to ride their bikes to school. I trot along behind them carrying both backpacks. It’s like an extra workout!
Headed to school. It’s almost SUMMER!
On Friday night, we were walking up to Smith’s baseball game and I noticed that they were holding hands. It melts my heart because I know that stuff is almost over.
Saturday night shenanigans at dinner.
We ate dinner and then went for gelato after. Our little town square was magical on this night. Artists were out, musicians were playing on the street corners and the streets were full of diners. It was so nice!
I put this pic on Instagram over the weekend. Kensington has decided that she is really into basketball. She plays every single day now as much as she can. Andrew told me on this particular morning that every time they practice together, he thinks about Father of the Bride and about cries. That made me want to cry! WHY MUST THEY GROW UP?!
And then on Sunday afternoon…strep struck. Smith stayed in this chair for three days. (We would later go back to the doctor on Tuesday afternoon to find out that it was tonsillitis. They think he had both.)
One day while Smith was napping (in said chair), Ashby, Kensington and I played outside. This girl loves to bike!
And do sidewalk chalk too!!
Speaking of this girl, she has a big appointment today at Scottish Rite. Prayers are always appreciated! Love this one (and her siblings!) so much. Praying all goes well.
On my foodie blog today…
Yum!

Prayers for sweet Ashby!
Have they mentioned having Smith's tonsils out? My oldest, Ian, who is now 11 had his out when he was 3 and it was the best decision ever. He had constant strep and I can't recall him having it after the surgery!
Yes, surgery is scaring and my momma heart was a nervous wreck. but it helped him!
just a thought!
have a great weekend!

Your street looks so pretty and quiet. An acquaintance of mine mentioned she is thinking of moving to Texas and I immediately said, the only thing I know about Texas is a town called McKinley that seems awesome. And she said that's one of 2 towns that she narrowed it down to where they're thinking of moving.

I'm so glad Smith is feeling better! I mean strep gets me down. Coupled with tonsillitis I'd be in bed for a week!

Thinking of you both today, big hugs xx

Love the "same smile" comment from Ashby. And I tell you, every single time I see that girl smile I WANT HER TEETH. The Father of the Bride comment makes me want to bawl too. So glad Smith is finally better! Whew!

Ok, I know this is a silly question – but does your school have bike racks for the kids? Or how do you bring two bikes back home? That would be talent!!

Prayed for Ashby on my morning walk:) She may not "look" exactly like her momma but joy shines through both of you.

Where did you get your gray shoes? Are they sketchers? Thanks!
Macy Strozier says
Smith in his chair is just to funny. In a couple of years, he'll be in that same chair and you will be taking a transition picture and crying at the difference. Ashby on the bike though. She has the best, biggest, and cutest smile in the world. Remember these moments Shay, they will be in high school in a snap

Hi! Where are your shoes from that you have on in the backpack picture? Thanks 🙂

Girl..
Rats and mice are enough to make you literally go CRAZY!!! 2 years ago we had so many mice (and they felt so at ease with us!!!) that they had the NERVE to crawl across the BACK OF THE COUCH WHILE WE WERE ON IT!!!! They were living in my NIGHTSTAND and one night I heard them trying to claw their way up our bed skirt onto OUR BED!!!! I mean, we are civilized people.. We don't have food in our nightstand!!! We (rarely .. ! Ha!) eat in bed.. I vacuum constantly. It was ridiculous!! The night they were trying to get into our bed I shot up, in tears, got into my SUV (in pajamas, no bra!!) and checked into a hotel. My husband knew I was LOSING it! They have a way of making you itch, feel dirty and invaded!!! Praise the Lord it was just in your garage.. Hoping they stay there!! Sending you rat poisoning vibes 😉 XOXO

Late to the read today (which is unusual!), but praying for Ashby and doctors! Hope all is well. LOVE the smile comment, and truly, Kensington will be studying cooking in France (Didn't you say she wants to do that??) before too long! UNREAL. You guys make me want to watch Father of the Bride with a box of tissues. 🙂 Much love. Get well soon, Smith!!

Ashby is so precious!

Prayers for Ashby. I hope her appointment went well. Ashby is right: you do have the same smile. I read your old rat post and can sympathize. I am currently having a rat problem myself. They've chewed a hole(s) right through my kitchen wall into the house. I think I'm going to try the peppermint oil. Thanks for the hint.
Chicago Mom (Heather) says
Hi Shay! I rarely comment but I just wanted to let you know that my son Henry had strep 7 times in 8 months and basically strep is tonsillitis. He had his tonsils removed in January and he has not had strep since!! Just wanted to let you know if he keeps getting strep to see an ENT. Hugs! If you have any questions email me. halsumdesign@yahoo.com. Strep is miserable. Henry had it during spring break, Thanksgiving, Christmas. It ruins everything! 🙁

A. Rats? Are you sure??? Maybe just mice? UGHHHHH
B. Yes, that pic is the exact scene from Father of the Bride…boohoo!!
C. My oldest son is 8 and still holds his dad's hand…maybe you've got a few more years?!? 🙂

Love love love your blog!!! I know you enjoy reading and although the littles I have at home don't permit me a lot of time to read, I just finished a wonderful book tonight that I could not put down. It's called Hope Heals by Katherine and Jay Wolf. It's her true story. It just came out April 26. It is a beautiful book.

We LOVE Scottish Rite!!! My son has been going to TSRH since he was 9 months old – he is about to be 6 – and we just feel so at peace there. We've also learned to make sure to set 30 minutes before or after (depending on what procedure is going on) to play on their AMAZING playground!!
Juliegab22 says
On the mice front… I found some droppings in my kitchen and set four traps. I killed three mice in 2 days. Then I bought a cold air diffuser and diffuse peppermint oil whenever I am home or overnight. So maybe 10 hours a day. I have one in the kitchen and one in the basement. its been a month since the diffuser started and I haven't seen any dropping and I have 10 mouse traps set all over the house and they remain empty…. Also it makes my house smell really good!! (I sometimes switch lavender oil in the evening. 3 drops lavendar and 2 peppermint.). Anyway… Just thought I'd share as a way to combat the rodents.
