Okay, let’s go to some life lately.
We have been busy bees 30 miles out in the Atlantic…

Last week, Madeley wanted to attend Vacation Bible School at First Congregational Church here on Nantucket. We had seen it advertised around town, and she wanted to go.
You guys, it was A GREAT WEEK! She absolutely loved it!

Day One

Day Two

Day Three

And Day Four
She met some new friends, I met some new moms…from beginning to end, it was such a blessing to our family. I am so happy she did it!

Oh sweet Charlie. All of this sunshine and salt air makes for a great nap.

I think we’ve made it to the beach every single day over the last two weeks. Sometimes, we go and only stay an hour…sometimes, we’ll stay three. It always makes me happy.

More napping. I’m telling you, it’s exhausting to have this much fun 😉 .
One afternoon, Andrew and Smith wanted to head out to Great Point. The girls were busy, so the three of us made the trek. I’ve shared this before…

…but do you see Great Point way up there at the tip of Nantucket? It’s the most remote part of the island. In order to get up there, you have to have a special permit, you have to check in at the station at the entrance with the attendant, you have to deflate your tires, and then you drive on the beach to get up there.
Nantucket is very small (only 15 miles long), but to get from my front door mid-island to that lighthouse at the top takes about an hour. I say all of this to say, it’s an “event” when you go. It’s really such a special spot because it’s preserved.
We try to head up there at least once a season, but we always pick a day when we don’t want to actually get into the water because…there are signs everywhere that warn you about the sharks. No thank you.
Smith wanted to fish, Andrew and I just wanted a little adventure, and the girls were happy as clams, so off we went…

…we made it to the very tip where the lighthouse sits. The lighthouse has been here, the most northern tip of the island, since 1784! Wrap your brain around that…

It was chilly and really windy way up there, but we had a really nice afternoon.
At one point, I couldn’t take the wind any longer, so I got back in the car…

…with my book and watched my boy fish. My mom calls these “silent blessings”. These are just little, normal everyday, unexpected blessings. I sat in the car and had one. It was really, really sweet.
Because it’s tasty and beautiful…

…the Faraway Mermaid at the Sister Ship restaurant makes me happy. It’s a spicy margarita 🙂 .
The Sister Ship is one of those very underrated spots in town. If you’re headed this way, I highly recommend.

One day last week, we had lunch at Something Natural. This is just a sandwich shop that sits on this beautiful property. We have eaten approximately four million sandwiches here. This was one of the first spots I visited with my parents way back in 1996. It’s a Nantucket must!
Another day…

…another beach!
On this day, we headed out to Jetties for a bit in the afternoon…

…sunshine and smiles!
After our beach time, we stopped…

…at the Sandbar restaurant right there at Jetties for…

…their buck a shuck. Truly, it’s the last deal left on this island. We love oysters, and we really love them at a good price! 😉

Love my people.
One night, we made it over to…

…Topper’s for dinner.
I’ll pull my map out again for you…

…this restaurant is in Wauwinet (see it way over there on the far northeastern side?).
We had dinner in time for…

…the gorgeous sunset.

Who doesn’t love dinner with a sunset?!
And then…

…back to the beach we went! This time, we were at Invisible Beach which is a tiny, hidden little beach on the south shore. I love seeing my kiddos heading out with boogie boards!

Dinner at Bar Yoshi. My view was extra cute on this night.

This girl (and the boy sitting next to her) were extra cute too! We were all accidentally wearing blue.

I have spent a lot of time biking behind these girls this summer…

…and a lot of time at the farmers market. I am going to miss these Saturdays!

Their wardrobe is clearly quite supportive of Massachusetts 😉 .
And a few pics around town to wrap up our post…

And that’s a little life lately.
Smith and I take an annual adventure each year here on Nantucket and today is that day 🙂 .
I’m going to enjoy my time with my boy and see you back here on WEDNESDAY. Until then, have a great great start to your week! I’ll see you Wednesday, friends! xx

Enjoy your day! I’d love a post of how to be intentional in your relationship with your son as they grow older. My oldest will be turning 8, and naturally spends lots of time with my husband through athletics and such. I want to make certain I’m being intentional in maintaining a strong relationship with him as he ages. 💛 Just a thought!
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s so easy for me to find time and ways to spend with my girls which makes this time with my boy feel EXTRA special. He and his dad are besties, but I try and steal him away as often as I can.
Ellen says
I just read The Hotel Nantucket, and some of these sites jumped right out at me! So fun!
Peyton Cline says
You all have had the best summer 😊 random question, but do you have a link for the beautiful blue necklace you have on in several of the pictures?
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from a shop here on Nantucket called Love Shack! They do online orders! https://www.lolacompany.com
Nicole Klaver says
I always leave your posts excited to create my own happy! I’ll be on the look out for my own silent blessings. 🥰 It also encourages me to be more mindful and intentional with living life well and present with my family. 🩷 Happy Monday!

I simply cannot get enough. Please stay forever!

I wonder if any of your kids will end up going to college on the East coast? We have so many great ones in MA. 🙂
Andrea says
Do you still have a comprehensive list of Boston restaurants? We used your list back in 2019 for a trip and it was wonderful. I can’t seem to find it anywhere on the blog now.
Mix and Match Mama says
I think this is my most updated post, but please feel free to email me if you need more ideas! I’m so happy to help! https://mixandmatchmama.com/2019/11/all-about-boston-part-2/

What a wonderful Life Lately!! I especially loved the “little blessing moment” watching your sweet boy do what he loves. Have a great week, everyone!
Michelle from Boston says
I love this post and I especially love Nantucket. I am curious, have you been into the Nantucket Cottage Thrift store? We heard so much about it and we went last year on my birthday and it was so fun. First the building that it is located in, is so historical, I loved just looking at the floors, but the trinkets and the fun items that were donated for sale were amazing. So much history in those items. I ended up with some painted martini glasses but only 3 made it home. If I had a car that day, I would have gone home with so much more. Some of the serving ware from the old Nantucket homes could tell some stories.
Mix and Match Mama says
I haven’t, but Kensington likes to walk through there!
Sheaffer says
I wonder where I could go grab oysters and a spicy margarita for lunch around here?!? 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
If ANYONE would know, it would be YOU!
AJ says
Does Great Point have any businesses or buildings other than the lighthouse? If not, does the lighthouse have a restroom? That would be a key for me!
Mix and Match Mama says
It has absolutely nothing out there. The park rangers do keep porta potties in certain locations. That’s it!
sandi says
I thought Virginia could beat the age of your lighthouse with the one located at Cape Henry in Virginia Beach. Ours is a youngster built in 1792, and on an active military base.
Beautiful pictures of Nantucket as always!

I heard a funny quote on Sunday, and thought you’d appreciate it…
Summer should get a speeding ticket! 😁
Mix and Match Mama says
AMEN TO THAT!
Dana says
Thanks for the reminder about silent blessings. I often overlook them and this was a great reminder to be on the lookout. Sometimes those make up the beauty of our lives so much more than the big stuff can!!
Jackie says
Do you have a link to Madeley’s cherry swimsuit? My 9yo daughter is in her cherry era 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s from Target!
Connie Barrell says
I just love your life! 🥰 So fun and full of family and traveling! I want to travel more! Hopefully we can soon! Life is too short! Thanks again for sharing your life with us all! I’ve been reading for years and still enjoy it! 💝
Mix and Match Mama says
Life is very short. xx
Maddy says
I just can’t get enough of your Nantucket posts! After seeing the map, I am wondering if Tukernuck island is named after the online store? I love their clothing! Can you boat over to Tuckernuck or is it remote?
Mix and Match Mama says
The store is named after the island! And it’s pretty darn remote.
Lisa Siebert says
What’s Kensington been up to this summer on Nantucket? You haven’t mentioned her much. Wondering what kind of things does she likes to do there.
Mix and Match Mama says
She has been a busy busy bee this summer. On Nantucket in particular, this season, she would say her favorite things to do were go to the beach and shop. Ha!
Dana J says
I love all of the pics…they are all so dreamy!! Hope you have a sweet day with your boy!!
Jen says
I rarely comment but I just had to today! We live on an island in the middle of the Pacific Ocean and my kids went to VBS last week and did the same Illumination Station theme. They had the best time too! It’s so fun that we both live on islands in different oceans but our kids had the same VBS theme last week!
Mix and Match Mama says
How cool for you! Which island?? I love the connection!
Jen says
We’re on Maui! It’s such a fun connection!
Mix and Match Mama says
JEALOUS! Enjoy your beautiful island!!
Arika says
Shay, how have you been showing us Nantucket pictures all these years and you’ve been sleeping on that church. WOW! It makes me want to go and get married again! (Ironically, I got married in a very beautiful white Congregational church but it was in Kansas!) I know you guys do church online but I think you should go at least once, out of respect for how cool that building is!
Mary Brown says
Love this Life Lately! As a geography nerd, I think you mean northeast instead of northwest for Toppers restaurants. 😉
Mix and Match Mama says
typo! Yup! I’ll correct that!
Bren says
Love what you share from your beautiful days on Nantucket!
YAY! I have been hoping for some of these travel sets from CR and I am so, so excited to be able to get the body care in travel size! Thanks, Shay!
