It’s Stranded!!
The second Wednesday of every Month, Erika and I share three things we would take with us if we were stranded on a deserted island. Last month, we kicked off this linky party with What 3 items from your medicine cabinet would you take? To see my post, click here.
Today, we’re all sharing what three books we would bring with us if we were stranded on a deserted island. Books you would read over and over and over again while you were there.
Now, in my head, I would take the Bible. a book on surviving on a deserted island (I looked on Amazon…they write such books!), and a cookbook on how to cook fish a million different ways. But…since those seem so obvious, I’ll skip them and move on to some other fun ones (just know, I’m hoping my plane goes down on that deserted island with something besides People to read for the rest of my life…)
If I had to take three books that I just enjoy reading (and would want to keep me company while I was deserted), here are my three:
Bread & Wine by Shauna Niequist was the best book I read in 2015 (and I read 63 of them!). This book is encouraging, heart-warming, inspiring, full of vivid imagery and speaks right to my soul. I think I could sit under a palm tree, read this book, close my eyes and feel at home.
Bridget Jones’ Diary is my very favorite movie. Years ago, I read the book, fell in love, saw the movie and fell even more in love. Bridget would keep me company on that island. She would make me laugh and probably, make me not feel quite so sorry for myself.
Well, it’s not the Bible…but it’s close :). Jesus Calling by Sarah Young is my favorite daily devotional. Each day, there is scripture and a little devotional that goes with it. I love this every day right now while I’m cozy at home…so just imagine how much I would love it if I were stuck on a deserted island!
So…my three books: one to make me think of home, one to make me laugh and one to make me think of Christ. Win, win, win.

Next time on Stranded…what three Netflix series would you want with you on a deserted island??? Oh…now, we have internet access on this island and Netflix…things are looking up!

Did you know the movie "Bridget Jones' Baby" is coming out this year?! We saw the trailer at "The Mother's Day" movie and it looks SO FUNNY. Jesus calling almost made my list too:)

Ok I really want to go to this deserted island. I just got my hands on an early copy of Liane Moriarty's new book (Truly Madly Guilty) and I could use some uninterrupted time.

I think I need to read bread and wine! Maybe it should be my vacation read this summer! Or since we are going to Napa, maybe I should read it first!!! Love your picks! I also thought that Jesus is calling would be a great record keeper for how many days youve been on the island too.

If the new People magazine was somehow dropped on the island each week I could totally read that as long as I was stuck there! 🙂 It's the first magazine I search for whenever I'm in a waiting room of any sort. I think all doctor's offices should be required to subscribe!

Bridget Jones's Diary is such a good pick–that book just makes me happy and makes me laugh. My choices were a little heavy on the angst! Liz @familyoffoley.wordpress.com

Never read or watched Bridget Jones' Diary. Don't hate me.

I finished Bread & Wine last week and absolutely LOVED it. It's going to be birthday/Christmas gifts for just about every woman I know this year!

I think I would have some similar picks… BUT, I would need a good Jane Austen book in there… 🙂

Love Shauna Niequist-anything! Savor is a terrific companion to Jesus Calling.
I didn't even think about a book about survival!!! I wouldn't stand a chance!
Have you read Out of the House of Bread? Niequist does the foreword and its great.

I'm not 100% sure what three books I would bring, but I would definitely choose The Royal We. I read this on your recommendation and I LOVED it so much I read it two times in a row. Do you have any recommendations for similar books?
Heather Lockhart says
I just read Bridget Jones's Diary for a book challenge (category: a friend's favorite book), and I was surprised that I enjoyed it because I didn't enjoy the movie at all. I could see Bridget being a comfort and a source of entertainment if deserted on an island

Speaking of being stranded on an island, have you watched Lost? I'm watching it now & I'm obsessed!
Jen Arthur says
Great picks. That is definitely saying something if out of 63 books, Bread and Wine was your favorite. I'll have to add that one to my (ever-growing, especially after today) list! And having wi-fi on the island will absolutely improve the stay! This is starting to sound like a vacation! 😉

I had to suggest this book, as I just read it and cannot stop hugging my husband – Forever Interrupted by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It was absolutely heartbreaking and absolutely beautiful. It's one of those that will stick with me long after I read it and really make me appreciate the people I love even more. Just had to reach out 🙂
