The last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer, Mel and I host our What’s Up Wednesday link up! If you blogged WUW today too, make sure you link up below!
Every month, we answer these questions…
…plus one bonus question.
Before we start, let me say this…this week has kicked my hiney. I’m talking kicked it HARD. #anditsonlywednesday
On top of the hiney kicking, today, our sweet Ashby is having her second procedure done. And friends, I am so not thrilled about it. I honestly do not know what to do. These procedures are extremely painful and since her last one (on July 29), she has pretty much been in constant pain. Her doctors tell us this is normal and that things will get significantly better…but my four year old cries all day long that her arm and hand hurt, so I really have a hard time hearing the “it’s going to get better speech”. We are looking into a second opinion that is out of state…paperwork is moving, appointments are trying to get scheduled…it would be difficult to see a doctor in another time zone…but if that’s what it takes, sign.me.up. So, prayers please as we walk this road. Ashby is as tough as nails. I know people say that all the time…but seriously, if you look up “tough as nails” in the dictionary, you will see this…
So here we go, this is what’s up with me today…
1. WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
If you missed my Meal Planning Monday this week, you can see it HERE. I cannot deal with complicated dinners this week…so you better believe that everything is simple!
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Did someone say fall? I hear it. It’s coming.
3. WHAT I’M LOVING:
Okay, every year after summer, I go get a new foundation. I’ve told you a gazillion times that I like to wear Bobbi Brown’s tinted moisturizer with Nars’ Hot Sand Illuminator combined during hot weather (I just squeeze a little of both on my hand and mix them with a makeup sponge and then apply). Well, now that fall is here, I wear a little more coverage when it’s not 110 degrees and I am obsessed with this new one I found from Nars. It is both matte and dewey. How is that possible? I have no idea but I think it is. It goes on so light (not heavy at all!) and I am in love. Why have I not tried it sooner??? Love, love, love!
It’s called Nars All Day Luminous Weightless Liquid Foundation, and I don’t think I’ve ever loved a foundation more.
4. WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
We’ve been getting back into our back to school routine. Getting up early, doing homework, after school activities and going to be early. We’re back in the swing of things!
5. WHAT I’M DREADING:
Ah…my sweet girl waking up from anesthesia this afternoon. She is not going to feel well.
6. WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Quite a few things!
Eats comes out on October 1! If you want to pre-order a copy, click HERE.
And over in travel agency land…
…we opened our 2017 calendar to not only Walt Disney World and Disney Cruise Line but all Caribbean, Mexican, Hawaiian and Alaskan cruises (on any line). If you have questions, email me at mixandmatchtravelagency@yahoo.com.
7. WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
The Shull five have a super fun September planned! I cannot wait to get this month going because I know it’s going to be fantastic! I love it when we have fun stuff scheduled :).
8. WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
Yesterday, I shared my August Book Review. I read six books this month…so, if you want to read about them, click HERE.
And I’m still binge watching…
…The Good Wife and it is so GOOD! I’m going to be sad when I’m finished.
9. WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
…the soundtrack to Broadway’s Hamilton! The kids and I are obsessed with this soundtrack. Now, not all songs are kid appropriate, so you need to screen it before you let your young kids listen…but, I’m going to need Broadway to produce more shows that are historical because my kids are now well versed in Alexander Hamilton. My older two can tell you all about his young life, his part in American politics and how he died #aaronburr. Whenever they study Hamilton later on in life, they’re going to get A+ :).
10. WHAT I’M WEARING
Okay, I’m going to combine this one with our bonus question today which is “What is your favorite transitional piece?”. All week, we’ve been celebrating fall finds with Nordstrom who has so graciously helped me sponsor not one but TWO giveaways. On Monday, I announced the winner of my teacher giveaway. A sweet, sweet, sweet teacher who is 13 weeks pregnant with twins was our winner :). And then, Nordstrom and I decided to host one more giveaway this month…one winner and her friend will each receive a $300 Nordstrom gift card.
Yes! Yes! Yes! Thank you Nordstrom!
So, I’ve been showing you ladies my favorite fall finds for the last week, but here they are again. I love them because you can wear them now and then later when the weather is cooler.
Now, this top flew off the rack in several sizes. It comes in five different colors and patterns, so hopefully your size is still available in one of them. I also found these that are very similar…
…plus a few plaid scarves thrown in there for good measure.
These booties are one of my favorite fall finds along with this top that I bought during the Anniversary Sale and the necklace too. It looks all fall but it’s light at the same time. I bought the booties in wood suede but they also come in a gray and black as well.
This dress that I CANNOT STOP WEARING along with these heels in a yummy brick suede (also available in black leather).
My favorite transitional scarf…this is my third year in a row to wear it!
Don’t forget, for your chance to win the $300 Nordstrom gift card for you and another one for your friend, click HERE to enter! The winner will be announced on Friday, so don’t delay!
11. WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Last weekend, we celebrated Kensington’s birthday with some family and then this weekend, we’re celebrating with a few of her friends. I cannot believe she’s almost eight.
12. WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
September is always my favorite month of the year. I just really think this is going to be a fantastic month. I can’t wait for it to begin!
13. WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
Not much :).
Okay, thanks for letting me vent at the beginning of this post :). Prayers appreciated as Ashby has her procedure today. Love you all so much. Don’t forget to link up below if you also blogged WUW today and don’t forget to click HERE to enter to win our Nordstrom Gift Card Giveaway.

My daughter did an internship at a major pharm company in Indy this summer and worked in the data analysis / IT area. Anyway, while designing a game for employees to play to learn more about the benefits employees are eligible for (I know, a game not a manual!) she learned they have an app/ game for kids to play while in the hospital to express pain levels. I will see if I can figure out if its public yet but in the meantime maybe ask around and see if such a thing is available for your daughter. It was very simple and set up like a “help us solve a mystery” or “help us find this” and adults pop up and give positive video messages of support like “you’re doing great! we are almost there”” A game/distraction for sure, but also gives kids a little control in their situation

Thoughts and prayers that Ashby pain goes away soon. Your sweet little girl has gone through so much already, hate to hear that she is in pain everyday. I think it’s a good idea to get that second opinion. Good luck today with Ashby’s procedure.

My heart broke as I heard Ashby has been in such pain- for her and for you mama. As a patient in pain a lot of the time it is so so hard and I am praying that this season of pain ends very quickly for Ashby. I am also praying for you- because I can only imagine how hard it is to watch this pain. I know for my parents this is one of the most difficult parts of me being sick. I am so so sorry. I am praying today goes smoothly and is filled with unimaginable peace and that even waking up she will not feel sick or pain. Praying that the Lord touches her body and gives you grace for these difficult moments ahead. I am truly so sorry.

Prayers for you and your family, the doctors that you will interact with, the nurses, and hospital staff. May the Lord watch over you , guide them, and heal Ashby!

My heart breaks for Ashby and for you and Andrew as her parents. Daily constant pain is just awful. I so relate personally. Let this procedure be what gives her relief. And if this isn’t it, I hope you will get some clarity on what to do instead. Every second of pain feels like hours, and an hour feels like days. I can imagine how helpless you feel. Good thoughts are with you and your little one!! xo

Praying for Ashby! Shay, have you heard about Casey Martin, the former PGA Tour golfer and now Head Coach of the Oregon Ducks golf team, that also has Klippel Trenaunay Syndrome? He was in the news years ago for suing the PGA over using a golf cart on the tour. He is a family friend from years ago that I’ve lost touch with but I know he’s on Facebook and reachable. I’m wondering if he may have doctor contacts that would be helpful to you as you all seek second opinions. Granted, they may be in the Pacific Northwest as we grew up in Eugene, OR but just thought I’d throw that out there. He is a strong Christian and has gone through so much with that condition. I’d be happy to try and reach out to him and connect y’all if you need other options. Either way, I hope the Lord leads you to the right care for your sweet girl!

Shay!! Hugs my friend. I can understand why you are wiped out 🙁 Prayers for Ashby today! I will be praying that she wakes up and doesn’t feel rotten from the anesthesia and that her pain is relieved. I can’t imagine how hard that is to know she is in pain all of the time. I remember you saying that once you started these procedures you had to continue so prayers for that too and whether or not you try something out of state. That instagram video of her dancing was so cute yesterday. HUGS, PRAYERS!! YOU GOT THIS!!! I will be praying for Jesus to be present today and to be holding you all in the palm of his hand.

I feel so bad to read about Ashby’s pain. I had no idea her hand and arm were bothering her all the time. Can she take Children’s Tylenol?
