It’s Friday! And not only Friday…Friday of a three day weekend.
Because it’s a three day weekend, I am taking Monday off and will return to blogging world on Tuesday. I hope you have a safe and fun weekend!
I’m sharing my weekly faves and linking up with my friends Andrea, Narci and Erika today. Here they are…
Well, golly gee! Apparently reading a bad book is something we all can mourn together! I was blown away by the response from my August Book Review on Tuesday. I had a blah month in reading world and apparently, many of you did too. And bonus, so many of you recommended new things for us all to be reading this fall. #holysuggestions
If you need a book suggestion, click HERE and read the comments. You will be blown away! Thank you all so much for helping me get out of my bad book slump!
We have all the smiles this week for Nordstrom who has helped us sponsor not one but TWO giveaways! See our happy faces…
…and our happy feet too! This year for some reason, our back to school shopping had more to do with cute shoes than anything else. Kensington’s Toms and Ashby’s shoes have been favorites of ours. She has been rotating daily between Mickey and Minnie kissing (how cute are those?!?! And they come in 5 different colors) and her little fringed booties (in 4 colors). We heart a good shoe :).
We also heart some back to school fall stuff. Here are a few of our faves…
Speaking of faves…want to know who the winner is of our $300 Nordstrom Gift Card Giveaway? One winner and a friend will each receive a $300 gift card. Drum roll please…
JASMINE SHARIFI
Woohoo! Congratulations Jasmine!! I emailed you early this morning. Please email me back as soon as possible! Thank you Nordstrom (and especially their kids’ department) for making this giveaway possible!
On Wednesday, I shared my new favorite foundation with you and thought it was worth repeating today in case you missed it. I’m kind of obsessed with this one. It’s both matte and dewy at the same time. I have no idea how that’s possible…but it is.
And my nail polish is After School Boy Blazer…a favorite fall polish of mine.
So…this time of year, I like to watch You’ve Got Mail while I work. It’s been on repeat this week. I want to work in her shop :).
And because my life’s mission is to own a gazillion plaid shirts…I thought you should see my latest one. Cute, right? I think it looks especially great with my house shoes :).
Did you see my Easy Apple Recipes yesterday? ‘Tis the season friends! Whether you want savory or sweet, I have your apple recipes HERE.
Those are my Friday Favorites!
Have a wonderful Labor Day weekend! See you on Tuesday!

What jeans are you wearing with the plaid shirt? What’s the wash? Happy Friday:)
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re my J Crew Toothpick Jeans. I’m not sure what the wash is because they change them out so frequently, but I love J Crew jeans!
Narci says
Cute, cute shoes on the girls!! And, I love that plaid top on you! So pretty!! Happy weekend, friend!
Megan says
You’ve Got Mail is my all time favorite movie. Also, I think my Quinn NEEDS those Mickey and Minnie shoes for our Disney trip later this month!
Erika Slaughter says
You’ve Got Mail is one of my FAVORITES! And I have no doubt you’ll reach that life mission. You have to be close. Right? 😉
Kimm says
Have a great weekend !!!
Kate says
It’s time for a good pair of slippers… Love these! True to size?
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m literally wearing them right now. I wear them all day, every day. True to size, no half sizes, so size up if you’re a half size :).
Sheaffer says
When you set a goal, you reach it, so I feel confident that you shall own ALL THE PLAID SHIRTS. And I bawl my head off every single time I watch You’ve Got Mail. One of my Top 10 favorite movies for sure!
Farryn Bussa says
Did you find that the plaid shirt needed to be sized up as the website suggests ?
Rosie says
So excited to be up early to read your blog!! Since becoming a mom, I’ve struggled with having enough energy to get up before my baby does and have made it a mission recently to get some mommy time in each morning! (Usually I read your blog while I’m at work ???? So I can’t comment). Anywho!!….enough about me… I absolutely love reading your blog(s), fell in love with your food blog first and now love trying out some of your Friday favorites! Your blog has also helped create an open dialog about adoption between my husband and I, which has truly been a blessing for us. Thanks for sharing! I am obsessed with shoes and enjoyed seeing some of your boy picks from Nordstroms too. Happy Friday!
Jasmine says
Happy Friday! Thanks so much for having an amazing giveaway I’m so excited to be able to share with a friend. Talk about a great start to a Friday.
Britt says
You’ve Got Mail ????????I’m a sucker for a good Rom-Com, & this one I’ve already added to my Stranded post!
Lizzie @ This Happy Life says
Oh I want those Minnie and Mickey kissing shoes for my 4 year old! She would love!
You’ve Got Mail is probably one of the best movies ever!

I don’t even want to pick up Truly, Madly, Guilty. I have never seen such an abundance of terrible reviews. I totally agree with the recommendations for The Nightingale and The Shoemaker’s Wife.. Both are fantastic. Have you read The Kitchen House or The Thirteenth Tale? Both are faves!
Denise Holthaus says
Thanks for the book review! I too read Truly Madly Guilty and I liked it, but wasn’t blown away. I thought there would be more to it. It wasn’t as good as others! I went to the comments and now I have a list of books to read!!! Yay!! Also, I want to watch The Good Wife next! I am in Season 6 of Heartland!! It’s been really good! I bought the NARS foundation yesterday at Nordstrom and plan to try it today!! I can’t wait!!! Praying Ashby is feeling good after her procedure. <3

On our first visit to NYC for our 25th anniversary, I had searched filming locations for You’ve Got Mail. We took one afternoon and found Cafe Lalo, Zabars, and Riverside Park by the Hudson (I think 91st street) where the last scene was filmed. My husband was such a good sport because he really could have cared less, he just knew it was something I would love.
If you ever get a chance to go and see those spots- it was a lot of fun!
I love watching that movie this time of year also:)

On our first trip to NYC for our 25th anniversary, I had printed off some filming locations for You’ve Got Mail. We took one afternoon after exploring Central Park and walked to the locations. We found Cafe Lalo, Zabars, and walked on further to Riverside Park by the Hudson (where the last scene was filmed. I think 91st street). My husband was such a good sport because he really could have cared less about seeing those locations, but he knew I would enjoy it. It was a lot of fun finding those spots.
I love watching that movie this time of year also:)

My husband and I are coming to Dallas for a quick 4 year anniversary trip September 22-44th. We plan on going to Oktoberfest in McKinney that Saturday before our flight!

Youve Got Mail is one of my all time fave movies! My love of this movie and of reading left me wanting to open my own Shop Around The Corner and for it to look just like this. My heart still kinda aches that Kathleen Kelly had to close shop. 🙁
Kelsey says
I love You’ve Got Mail!! Such a perfect movie 🙂 Oh and you can never have too many plaid shirts!
Maria D. says
Have a great weekend – I think I’m going to have to watch “You’ve Got Mail” now…lol….
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
I LOVE You’ve Got Mail, and I also love to watch it this time of year. I worked at the movie theater when it came out, and I have such fond memories of working there around that time that it came out. I’ve probably watched it dozens of times since then!
And I know how you love plaid, so PSA, Target has the CUTEST plaid shirt-dresses right now and it comes in lots of different colors. I just picked up the red and black one and the green and black one at lunch and they are to die for! Soooo cute!
Karen says
I think we have the same taste in movies!! Though I think there’s a couple with more British humor, and though I love so much that is British or has that Brit flair ( i.e. The Holiday), I can’t always get behind the some of that super dry humor. ha! Still haven’t seen Love Actually though, and I know you love it, right? I think I’ll give it a try…
I think I keep You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, While You Were Sleeping, The Family Stone, and The Holiday on repeat in the fall… 🙂 #countdowntoChristmasbegins YAY!
Jenny says
You’ve Got Mail, is the best! I dream of owning a bookstore just like it. Enjoy your long weekend! 🙂
brett says
Love You’ve Got Mail! Perfect for the fall.
Rachel Zimm says
I love your “After School Boy Blazer” nails!
I’ve had You’ve Got Mail for many years, but it’s on VHS so I never watch it. Steve just got me it on DVD this week for my birthday 🙂 🙂
Have a great weekend!!
Megan Butler says
You look great in plaid!! and I love your life’s mission!! HA! And I want a pair of kissing mickey and minnie shoes in my size!! Happy weekend!

I belong to 2 book clubs and we sometimes have a dud. I’m not reading the non-fiction one this month, How to be a Victorian. I got through the first 50 pages and knew it wasn’t for me. Glad I got it from the library. I’m thinking of getting, Shoe Dog: A Memoir by the creator of Nike.
It was fun to meet you yesterday at Nordstroms. I actually saw Sheaffer first and she went over to talk to you. I didn’t know that Ashby had another surgery the day before. She’s just as cute in person and seemed to be doing well. You were so sweet to take time to say hi. Have a great weekend!
Laura Bolger says
What size are you wearing in the coral plaid shirt? Thanks Shay!!
Alyssa Albany says
Hi Shay! I miss your gap and old navy posts!! Can you do a post on fall clothing from gap and old navy?? Thanks 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I miss them too! Right now, I don’t see anything at either that I love. I walked around Gap just like week and everything was blah. I’m hoping their new fall stuff knocks my socks off because I typically LOVE their fall stuff! I think they’re still trying to get rid of summer stuff.
