It’s FRIDAY!
We have big, big, big plans this weekend, so I’m super pumped!
And then, there’s this…
Word.
Okay…I think I have a really good batch of favorite things for the week. I’m linking up with Andrea, Erika and Narci and sharing them now. Enjoy your weekend friends!
Okay, my first one is kind of life changing. So, you know how I like the wet bun trick to make my hair all wavy, right? I’m pretty sure I’ve blogged it 8 billion times. (If you’ve missed one of those 8 billion, click HERE.) Well, I was being super lazy and only wanted to take one product to China, so one day at Sephora, I bought this…
…Bb.’s Don’t Blow It and I LOVE IT! I used it the entire time we were in China and now, that’s all I’m using at home. I wash my hair and then apply a little bit of this. I kind of scrunch it up in my hair, then pull it up in a loose little bun (with my hair still damp), go to sleep, wake up, pull bun down and my hair is pretty good to go. Sometimes, I’ll add a few curls with the curling iron, but it’s so easy. I was super excited to share this stuff with you…because I know how you love your hair products and this one friends, is a keeper!
I went to Target in search of Halloween goodness (more on that below) and found this polish. It’s Bahama Mama and I think it’s like fall in a bottle. I bought a few more fall polishes, so expect a polish pic every week ;). #nailpolishjunkiesunite
One of my favorites this year has been the little bits of Madeley around our house. We used to only have three backpack spots…so earlier this year, we had to have one more built…
…the girls are all in a row now…
…and Smith is just around the corner. We also had coat hooks added. For months now, we’ve been walking by Madeley’s sign, so it’s so much fun to have a little bag for her to hang now that she’s home!
Speaking of signs…
…I had signs made when Kensington and Smith were born (and then for every birthday after), so when we adopted Ashby, I got a sign for her Gotcha Day and one for Madeley too. Our sign wall is one of my favorite spots in my house!
Out in the garage, we bought old lockers last year for the kids to store their sports stuff/outside toys and two little lockers have sat lonely until now…
…this just makes me smile.
Speaking of things on walls…
…I had some of Kensington and Smith’s kinder and first grade art framed for upstairs. I’m going to make it a big gallery wall and when Ashby and Madeley start elementary school, I will frame their work too. My kids are so proud of this wall :).
Oh man, oh man, oh man…this one is most definitely a favorite for my week…
…my new cookbook Eats hits bookstores TOMORROW! I am so proud of this book! You can find it in stores like Barnes & Noble or you can order it online too. It has 12 chapters (every chapter is a month of the year) full of recipes specifically for that month. You can cook your way through the book all year long. I’ve had my eye on October 1, 2016 since the fall of 2014, so to see it actually happen tomorrow is so much fun!
I had several of you ask me where I got my Madeley necklace and it’s from Stella & Dot!
Um, these necklaces are probably my favorite thing to gift. I have bought dozens of them. They make excellent Christmas gifts (both my mom and mother-in-law have them with their grandma names inscribed), graduation gifts, new mom gifts (I gave Catherine one that says Samuel), gifts for new brides (put their new married name or their hubby’s name on there), teacher gifts…I mean, seriously, it’s like my favorite thing to gift people. I even have one that says Red Sox and another one that says Mama. Seriously, I love them :). (Plus I love that you can hook the necklace on in three places, so it’s easy to layer with other jewelry!). See them HERE (under jewelry, click engraveables).
So, this show is brilliant.
I mean…it’s the best show I’ve seen on TV in years. If you missed the first two episodes, you can watch them online at nbc.com or on the NBC app. I came home from China and all of my friends told me to watch it and now, it’s all we talk about. At lunch this week, we were literally squealing when we discussed this show. Brilliant.
My favorite fall outfit from this week’s What’s Up Wednesday is a favorite. Booties, check. Gray jeans that I’ll wear every other day all fall and winter long, check. Leopard top, check. Happy girl, check, check.
Okay, I told you earlier that I went to Target to find Halloween and fall goodness. Well, last year, they had cute Halloween tees, but this year, I didn’t see any. I’m not sure if I am too early, my store was picked over already or they just don’t have them. I don’t know??? But then I saw that my friend Melanie found an array of cute Halloween tees online, so I ordered one…
…it hasn’t arrived yet, but I’m super pumped! It was hard for me to pick because they have so many cute ones…but this jack-o-lantern face is the one I bought. I love a good Halloween tee :).
And last but certainly not least…
…a little Fresh Apple Cake for your weekend.
It tastes like fall, so you should make it.
Okay friends, I hope you have a wonderful weekend! Lots of love from me to you!
xo

Lots to love this week. Those signs you have made for all your kiddo’ bdays are awesome as is the wall of “kid art”!! It seems that you have their artwork displayed lower than I would normally hang pictures and I LOVE it! For someone (myself) who doesn’t think outside the box in decorating, it’s great inspiration to see these little unique things you do that I will of course imitate! Any chance you could take a picture of that wall from a distance for us to see the whole effect?
Thanks for a great post!
Mix and Match Mama says
I wish I could but I can’t because directly across from the wall is an upstairs railing that looks down to the first floor below. I have to stand at an angle because I can’t back away or else I’ll fall overboard ;).
Erika Slaughter says
You had a week full of favorites! Love your gallery wall. They do some cute art in kinder and first. Some days when they come home I’m super impressed. Happy Friday!
Britt Hensley says
The kids’ art wall is so cute. I’ve just started cleaning out the piles of school work we kept for just a project like this! Enjoy your weekend!

I just finished the second episode of This is Us – LOVE IT. But I am already wondering how in the world they will make this a full series — I guess that is why I am not a hollywood writer!! haha! What a fun list of favorites this week!
Megan says
Great favorites! Love all of the Madeley touches.
Kelly says
Love all these favorites! I’m doing the same thing with my kids artwork but am having trouble finding frames the right size. Do you mind sharing where you found the frames? Have a great weekend!

My copy of Eats came in this week – and I love it!! I’ve been following your blog for a few years and my teenage daughter looked through the book and said “Oh my goodness ….It’s Ashby!” LOL…it made me realize that I talk about you guys alot; as if I knew you! Your family is such an inspiration and joy to follow! Thank you for being an inspiring Christian that demonstrates the love of Jesus in so many ways for others to see….you have no idea the impact you make on those of us who follow you!
Suzanne @ My Life is a Mix says
My Target had super cute Halloween tee’s the other day but the sizes were pretty picked over. Good thing I got a cute one last year!
Thanks for the “This is Us” recommendation. I saw the previews but forgot all about it. I’m going to catch up on episodes tonight.
heidi says
Oh I just love everything about today’s post. ..everything ☺☺☺
TP says
Did you make the signs? Or did you buy them? If so, where?
Mix and Match Mama says
A friend of mine made them :).
Laura says
My apologies if I just missed it, but where did you get the cute personalized signs? I love those!!! I’m so happy for you all – we have adopted from China twice – it’s an amazing experience. I hope Madeley is adjusting well! <3
Melissa says
On the hair note- how often/how much do you cut yours? It looks longer lately…if you are growing it out do you skip trims altogether? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I get it trimmed and highlighted every 6 weeks.
Sanna says
Melissa, are you like me that every time you get it trimmed, they cut off exactly what you just grew? Mine grows to a certain length (just over the shoulder) and then it needs too many trims just to stay healthy. I waited ten weeks a while back and they had to cut two inches of split-end mess off. So that didn’t work either. So frustrating. Scuse me, just had to vent about this growing out your hair business :-). I even tried Biosil supplements for months and still no better. Ugh!
Melanie says
I love all of your gallery walls! I bet the kids love them too.
I think I’m going to gift those personalized necklaces this year. What a great idea!
Kim says
I love those lockers! What a great idea! Can you share where you got them?
Mix and Match Mama says
At an old antique/junk place in town.
Ruth says
This is Us is so good! I can’t wait to see how the story unfolds. I love all of the kiddo touches you have around your house and what a great idea to put lockers in the garage for their sports gear. Also, I love a good polish that screams fall and Berry Naughty is also a good one 🙂 Happy Friday!!
Karah Stracener says
I am loving This Is Us!! It is filling my parenthood void. I can’t wait to see how it all plays out. I love your little signs and how you framed your kids artwork. I would love to do that with my girls stuff. Have a great weekend! I’m off to order your cookbook, can’t wait. My family always loves your recipes!!
Angela Ellingson says
Eats is incredible! I am loving it and so is my hubby and kids. And the kids are actually eating the meals I make for once! 😉 This Is Us is absolutely my new favorite! Do you recognize Jack as Jess from Gilmore Girls? Makes me love the show even more! And I love your backpack hooks, lockers, kids’ framed art, and of course your sign wall. What a beautiful, practical, homey home you’ve made for your family!
Stacy Tsoukatos says
SO I am not a blogger but I said that I would start one just because of the show This is Us. It is the best new show I have seen on TV in years. So glad you and your friends found it and are watching it too. OBSESSED!!!!!!!!

I just bought the Bahama Mama Essie nail polish last night! I put it right on my nail when I got home so I can start soaking up Fall things.
Rebecca Jo says
I just fall in love with every sign you show. Such a creative unique thing.
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
That wall of the kids’ artwork just melts my heart. We have a similar wall in our playroom and it makes me smile every time I walk by it.
And This is Us… ALL THE YES!!!! I agree with you 100% that I haven’t seen anything quite so brilliant on television in years. I was so worried because my hopes were SO HIGH for it. I thought for sure it wouldn’t live up to the expectation, but oh how wrong I was. And good news in case you didn’t hear… it got picked up for the entire full first season so we don’t have to worry about them taking it away from us! Woo hoo!
Francie says
I’m so happy for you, Shay! I’m so stealing the art wall idea. http://www.supersimpleways.com
Kristin says
I love those ILY Jack-O-Lantern shirts! What size did you get? I’m thinking I want to order a small but wondering if they are TTS. Thanks lady!
Sarah @ Foxy's Domestic Side says
This Is Us is in my Friday Favorites too. I didn’t get a chance to watch the first episode until a couple of days ago and have yet to watch the second, but oh my goodness, SOOO good! So what happens when your walls fill up with too many signs? Now with 4 new signs going up each year…space is bound to be a problem?
Erin says
I have a half finished art area for my kids art…I need to buy clips, sigh but your post reminded me I need to finish. And everyone is talking about “This is Us” so while hubby is reffing I might just have to watch the first 2! 🙂
Kelly says
Where can we get a sign?
Mix and Match Mama says
My friend just makes them for me. I keep telling her to open an Etsy shop!
Irene says
This is us got picked up for the whole season ????????????
Tammie says

Love your blog! Been following you for a while, but this is my first comment 🙂 just wondering when you gift teachers the necklaces, what do you engrave on them? Their names? It’s a fantastic idea for teacher gifts!

I’ve done our school mascot on there. But the names would be cute too!

Mix and Match Mama says

Audrey Dawkins says
My laundry room walls are covered with my girls artwork and I love being in there….makes folding laundry so much better
Kendra says
Hair product question! =) (I’m ordering the BB product!) When you are on second day hair, do you use the product again? Or just dry shampoo and go?
Thanks! Here’s to beachy waves =)
Mix and Match Mama says
Just dry shampoo and go!!
Ann Marie Tennison says
There are too many fun things to comment on… LOVE ALL OF IT! I’d just have to stop there and say I agree with all of your favorites!
Lori Blong says
How do you keep from having a huge pony tail crease in your hair when you let it dry in a bun on top of your head?
Mix and Match Mama says
Well, the waves cover a multitude of sins like a pony tail crease! I also don’t pull it too tight, just a nice loose bun.
Katie says
Love the lockers! Can you share where you got the name plates?
Mix and Match Mama says
I just had someone make them!
