It’s Friday…and I feel like this right now…
…I’m just a ball of excitement!
Eeeeeeks!
A Christmas-y weekend just has to be my favorite kind of weekend. We have BIG plans for fun! So, let’s get to it. As always, I’m linking up with Erika, Narci and Andrea today and sharing my favorite things from the week and I seriously have a good list! Here we go…
Well, well, well! Look at those cute kids! Ha! I received my first copy of my newest book in the mail this week and was PUMPED! I turned this book in on May 1, so I kind of forgot how much I loved it until it arrived at my door 🙂 . Kids in the Kitchen hits bookstores on April 1, but you can pre-order your copy today HERE. I just love cooking and baking with my kids and my hope is that this book inspires you to do the same. (And lest you worry…Madeley might not have made the pictures but she made the dedication 😉 ).
Oh! This one is so special to me!!!
These are some of our dearest friends…
…Tyler, Aiden, Cooper, Brooke and Libby and this spring they are welcoming a beautiful little girl from China into their home. PRAISE JESUS! This has been such an exciting year for them and we have been incredibly blessed to watch them walk this road. And we cannot wait to meet their newest little girl, Willow, come spring. So, how can you help this sweet family? You can shop Be the Light Project on Etsy because during the month of December, half of all proceeds go directly to this family’s adoption fund. HOW COOL IS THAT?! I’ve already shopped! Here is what I bought…
Love Crosses Oceans (with China in the background). Yes, it does. Yes. It. Does.
(There is one for Africa too!)
And He does make all things new. I liked this. It’s such a good reminder.
So, shop, shop, shop! See them all HERE. You will love supporting this sweet family and their newest one!
Well…these have rocked our world…
…a few weeks ago, Andrea did this post on these Yumboxes and how they’ve completely revolutionized her kids’ lunches…so, I bought them for my kids and they’re AMAZING! My kids are obsessed with them, I’m able to put such a large variety in their boxes now with no worries about spills AND no more baggies and such. Seriously, my kids think these are the coolest things EVER. The only downside is that I have to wash and dry them every afternoon to use them again the next day, but it’s worth it. Your kids need these for Christmas!
I received an email from a sweet reader who told me the perfect polish for Christmas was OPI’s An Affair in Red Square…and she was right :).
So, I’m so picky about sweaters because THEY CANNOT ITCH AT ALL. I mean, not ONE BIT! And so I love this chunky striped sweater because it was oh so cozy and itch-free. I paired it with that red scarf I keep wearing.
I just love that scarf. And the photobomber too 🙂 .
And PS: I use these tanks to layer because they’re reversible, so easy to wear, light and don’t ride up on you. My jeans are HERE (they’re on sale!) and my leopard booties are HERE.
How much fun is this tee…
…my Merry & Bright tee makes me happy.
The other day, I posted this pic…
…and several people asked me about my notepad. They’re from Erin Condren and I use them all the time! I got this from Erin Condren this year too…
…it’s a cute little sing along game for Christmas. I love inserting games into holiday parties, so if that’s you too (I’M TALKING TO YOU ERIKA!), then you should check this out while you’re looking at notepads and planners over on Erin Condren’s site…
And I just saw that everything over at Erin Condren is 25% including LIFE PLANNERS!!! And all the Erin Condren junkies said amen :).
And finally, I’m re-posting one of my most popular Christmas recipes today…
It’s my 1 Dough Recipe that equals 10 Different Cookies!
Just take a look…
…just one dough recipe! Click HERE to see it. You NEED this little method this season!
That wraps up my Friday Favorites. See you Monday!

That Merry and Bright shirt is adorable!! If you don’t mind me asking, what size did you go with? I feel like I should buy a yumbox for my own lunch! I can see why your kids love them! Very cool find!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought a small…and seriously, I feel like I need a yumbox too!!!
Kendra says
Question, Does the Yumbox fit inside the PB kids lunchbox?
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes!!!! That’s what I do!!
Tyler says
I was just wondering the same thing. And how do you keep them cold?
Mix and Match Mama says
I keep mine in the fridge until it’s time to pop them in their Pottery Barn lunchboxes and send them to school.
Beth Miller says
I was wondering the same! I currently use a Ziplock container with three spaces, but I love the idea of more compartments! And yay for no plastic baggies!

my daughter purchased me my very first erin condrin planner for christmas and i am SO EXCITED. when i say {my daughter purchased} i mean i told her that’s what i wanted, i went to the site to build my planner and saw the {black friday/cyber monday} sale was extended {it ended that day} and free shipping and she handed me her card. i used my own pennies to order myself a few acessories and they arrive TODAY! the lifeplanner hasn’t shipped yet but she’s already forbidden me to open the box when it arrives. i feel like this could turn into a yearly christmas gift situation.

Thank you for posting about the Yumboxes! I was just describing them to my husband after I subbed at my son’s school and saw a child with one and thought it was a brilliant idea. My soon-to-be-kinder child needs this!!!!
Beth says
I might just have to jump right in and order myself my first Life Planner!! Love that Merry and Bright yes. Enjoy your festive weekend!

I have a solution, get the easy lunchboxes from Amazon. They are dishwasher safe and you can get a bunch at a low prices. Divided containers and have a bigger compartment for main entree! I make my girls lunches all on Sunday for the week.
Lisa Osborn says
Totally agree about OPI Affair in Red Square! Wearing it right now 😉
Erika Slaughter says
That is my kind of game!! 🙂 I’m heading over to check it out! And 25% off…even better! And I’m super impressed with those lunches! Happy Friday, Friend!
Amanda Bellemere says
Shull – I’m looking for an amazing thick fluffy sugar cookie recipe. Do you have one with the thick fluffy frosting as well? Where can I find it at if you do? Thanks
Amber Smith says
I bought a yumbox for my son after Andrea’S post too. I can’t believe how much I love it! I actually enjoy making his lunch now. I bought fun cutters too, so he now gets fun animal shaped fruits and veggies in his lunch! I got the insulates pouch as well and it holds his yumbox and a Capri sun perfectly!
Sheaffer Sims says
THAT STRIPED SWEATER!!! How have I never seen that? It’s so cute. I love those big chunky stripes and it’s perfect with that red scarf and leopard booties!!! I just ordered my new Erin Condren planner earlier this week. So excited to receive it!

I bought the leopard clutch you recommended about a month ago and it hasn’t arrived. I have also emailed the site owner three times. Did you have any issues getting yours? I’m super bummed and don’t know what to do.
Mix and Match Mama says
Oh gosh! Claire! That stinks!! I did not. I’m so sorry!
Claire Burke says
Do you know how else to get ahold of them? How long did yours take to come?
Mix and Match Mama says
I emailed her this morning on your behalf. Please email me and I’ll send you her direct email address as well!
Lana B says
I ordered one as well, and when I did, the site said that it most likely would not ship until January. 🙁 So it’s a major bummer, but hopefully soon! Hope that helps!
Bev says
I ordered one too and I believe they are on back order, but you should have received notice of that
Brenda says
Hi Shay! I too bought those yumboxes after reading Andrea’s post and they are amazing!! I also was getting tired of having to wash and dry the tray every afternoon so I went on Amazon and bought an extra yumbox food tray insert. They have a Paris themed one that my daughter loves!
heidi says
Firstly, a huge congratulations on your new book. . Look at you go!!! ☺
Those necklaces are adorable and what a special keepsake. Those lunch boxes are genius…genius lol
And that merry and bright top is darling!
Have a lovely weekend!
Chasity Campbell says
Ahhh, I thought I was the only crazy person who couldn’t wear certain sweaters. I’m apparently allergic to some materials lol! I’ll have to check out the sweater you mentioned!
Ashley says
Ok, since you brought it up…. KIDS LUNCHES…. AHHHH
My son has just started JK so I am only on month 4 of lunch making and I already hate it.
Could you do a post about kids lunches? What do you send your kids?? Also would love to see the comments from others as well.
Lizzie @ This Happy Life says
I’ve been wanting those lunchboxes since I saw Andrea post them! I need to tell the grandparents my kids need them 🙂 And that sweater, I need that in my life!
Krystal says
Hi Shay!
I just ordered a yumbox for my daughter and I’m so excited! I’ve been wanting to add variety to her lunches and this will be great. The problem I have is I don’t think it will fit in her current lunch box. Do you mind sharing what lunchbox your kids use? Thanks so much!
Mix and Match Mama says
The rectangle ones from PB Kids!
Courtney says
Thanks for sharing, I love your Friday posts! Those planners are adorable, and who would not want one of those lunch boxes!? Also, I hope you plan to share a little bit about the birthday party you hosted, I’m curious about the details! 🙂

So after Andreas post I bought myself a yumbox and an extra insert off of Amazon. Love that I can have healthy snacks in my bag at all times when I’m out and about!
Angela Ellingson says
Such great favorites! I’m excited about your new cookbook! We are loving Eats right now. I’ve been so busy lately my hubby has been helping out with a lot of the cooking and he keeps commenting on how much her loves Eats. 😉 Have a great weekend! 🙂
Katelyn Magerko says
I think a yumbox is just what my daughter needs as I’m struggling with creativity in the food department for the babysitter’s house. My daughter will be 2 years old next week. Do you think she’s too young for one? Are they more geared towards those in school?
Mix and Match Mama says
Absolutely not! I think they’d be perfect for her too!
Kelsey says
I have a box like that for my lunch too & love it!! Hint: they have them at T.J. Maxx all the time so if you want to grab a second set so you don’t have to wash them every day that’s a cheap way to do it! They also have cool ones for adults that are like that and then others made for salads, sandwiches, etc. Love that nail polish too!
Cara says
I love how you did your family names on the note pad. I recently placed an order with EC for note pads and planners and such but I couldn’t find a way to customize it like that with the color dots or to add more than one line on the website. Any tips? Thanks! Love your holiday spirit and can’t wait for the new book! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
You need to click “personalize” on whichever notepads you’re ordering and there is a place to enter names!
Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World says
Shay, you are on a ROLL with the cookbooks, and how fun is this one?! So special that you were able to incorporate time with your kiddos into your work! I can’t wait to get this one… I love my Eats cookbook so much! I know I’ll love this one, too!
cassie {hi sugarplum} says
So so excited about the new cookbook!! Holy moly you are one busy, hard-working mama!!! And can we talk about your hair!!! #goals
Megan Butler says
First looooove the cookbooks. Congrats lady!!! And second I found kids bento lunch boxes this year for my kids and they are life changing. Super similar to the ones you showed but the inside inserts can be put in the dishwasher!! Yes amazing. The outside still has to be hand washed but it doesn’t get that dirty. And I love the variety of things I can pack easily. (Now I’m only packing twice a week but still!) life changing. Love them
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
Ugh where were those lunch boxes when I was a kid?! I hate using so many plastic baggies for everything. I agree with the nail polish color and the fact that sweaters CANNOT be itchy! I thank you for your many sweater recommendations over the years because I do not buy any with wool. Have a fun Christmas-y weekend!

Okay I’m 40 and I bought a Yumbox a few months ago for my own lunches! I love the variety that I can take with me to work . And I get so many questions/compliments about it! Lol
Random question….do you wear your wedding rings on your right hand? Just curious. And if so, is there a specific reason or tradition?
Mix and Match Mama says
No :). I always wear it on my left hand.
Tricia G says
Another amazing lunchbox worth checking out is planetbox. (http://www.planetbox.com) it is an eco-friendly stainless steel lunch box with compartments, its own lunch bag and an ice pack compartment to keep your lunch cold. We have the rover box and have had it for 4 years now, my daughter uses it everyday and it looks brand new. Each school year we pick out new magnets from planet box to decorate the outside of it. We have been so pleased with this purchase I felt I needed to share.
P.S. It’s also dishwasher safe!!!!
Cyndi says
I love the little gold bracelet you are wearing in the nail polish pic, can I ask where you got it from? The one that is closest to your hand.
Mix and Match Mama says
J Crew!
Kari says
So I went to order an Erin condren notepad like yours but they only allow for one line at the bottom. How did you get yours to have the shull family and your names under it? It’s so cute
Mix and Match Mama says
Click on “other” instead of “first and last name” and then a spot for two lines will pop up.
