This and that.

Today’s post is a random mix of things.  A little this and a little that.

I’m going to kick things off with a confession.

Some of you are going to be really happy for me, some of you are going to be disappointed and some of you are going to shake your head and say, it’s going to be a long road ahead.

Here we go…

I started binge watching Grey’s Anatomy.

I know.

What have I gotten myself into?

It’s 14 seasons and counting…but friends, I love it.

I know.

Where was I 14 years ago when it started?  The answer: I was a newlywed living in Detroit and I have no clue why I missed the memo to watch this????

I’m hooked.  I started last week and am already on season 2.  I cannot stop.

Now, listen.  I know enough pop culture to know that basically everyone dies on this show…but guys, it’s so good right now!

I can’t stop.

So, there’s that.

On Mother’s Day, I went to church with my peeps…

…and then, they took me to lunch…

…and then after that…

…we spent the day by the pool and they made me dinner.

It was exactly what I wanted!

So, last week, we talked about transitioning our wardrobe from winter to summer and I mentioned this dress that I love so much, but was out of stock…

…but now, it’s back in stock in all sizes and colors for only $38.  I love it so much!!!  The jacket is still available in limited sizes HERE (but I also wear this one all the time too!).

If you’re thinking about booking a vacation to depart in 2018 or 2019, you better hurry and book today so that you can enter our giveaway

…if you book a trip with us right now (departing any time in 2018 or 2019), you will be entered to win a $500 Visa Gift Card!  If you’re thinking about booking a Disney Cruise for 2019, you better hurry!  They are filling up FAST!  Email me at for more info!

A sweet reader sent me this video yesterday and guys, I laughed my head off…

…oh my gosh!  SO FUNNY!!!

My little two wanted all of us to have matching manicures, so we whipped out one of my faves (OPI’s I Eat Maine-ly Lobster) and polished our nails 🙂 .  This age is so fun.

And finally, if you’re looking for a yummy burger recipe this weekend, look no further than HERE!

I’m sharing so many of my Very Best Burger Recipes!  You will not be disappointed!

Okay, I’m off now because this nugget right here…

…is graduating Pre-K today.

Where has the time gone?!?!

See you tomorrow!

I never dare to start watching (or re-watching) shows with tons of seasons. It gets me so scared because there are waaaay too many to binge at once – something I can’t help doing!

Hi Shay, enjoy Ashby’s special day. Can you please like/share info on your Mother’s day dress and bikini. Thanks much!

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 5:21 am

Well, they’re both old. The dress is an oldie from Loft and the swimsuit is like 4 years old from Athleta.

  • Alexis deZayas May 17, 2018 at 5:03 am

I am so excited you’re watching Greys!! It’s so good! And your Mother’s Day sounded perfect!!

  • Erika Slaughter May 17, 2018 at 5:04 am

We should have some sort of farewell lunch…see you again when you’ve finished your show…maybe 2019? Hahahahaha!

  • Dana May 17, 2018 at 5:11 am

I did get a good laugh out of that video! The funniest part to me was her crying and singing the clean-up song. Why is it so hard to get them to clean up?!? Thanks for sharing, Shay!

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 5:20 am

I laughed the whole time I watched!! Right?! Hahahaha!

  • Jill May 17, 2018 at 5:16 am

Grey’s is the best!! Be prepared to not have a life until it’s finished! 🙂

  • Emily R. May 17, 2018 at 5:27 am

I binge watched Grey’s a few months ago. I had even seen the first few seasons and I watched them again. It’s sooo good. And now I keep up with the weekly show. That’s probably the best part – once you finish the binge you can still keep watching!

  • Julie C. May 17, 2018 at 5:28 am

Oh my goodness…that This Is Me parody is absolutely hilarious!!!!! I love it!!!! And good luck today at Pre-K graduation. 😉

  • Elspeth Mizner May 17, 2018 at 5:31 am

Yay so happy you are starting greys!! It’s a lot road but you will love it!!

  • Sheaffer Sims May 17, 2018 at 5:51 am

I WILL SING THE CLEAN UP SONG! So freaking hysterical!!!!!

  • Jenny Bedner May 17, 2018 at 5:52 am

I love your blog and have been following for quite some time.. i’m totally binge watching Grey’s Anatomy right now as well.. its such an addiction LOL..

  • Beth Knecht May 17, 2018 at 5:56 am

I was just thinking of starting to binge watch Grey’s! I watched the first probably 7 seasons and then stopped. I turned on the TV the other night and got sucked back in. Now I need to catch up…just as soon as the school year is over!

  • Rebecca Rooney May 17, 2018 at 5:56 am

Grey’s is THE BEST!!!!!!!! It’s still sooooo good 14 seasons in!

  • Kristen May 17, 2018 at 5:58 am

You are brave to start watching greys now and it will be a long road! It really just gets ok towards end(past 4 yrs)but I can’t stop watching because it’s been on for so long. Good luck. First 5 are great!!

  • Derricca Krutsinger May 17, 2018 at 6:01 am

I’ve been following your blog, it’s amazing! What’s your secret to doing it all? Do you have a cleaning service? Nanny? Consistent routine? Thank you kindly 😊

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 6:20 am

I’m tired. Ha! I do have someone that comes in and helps me clean, my kiddos go to school enough during the week that I don’t need a nanny and can work while they’re in class, I have an annoyingly consistent/don’t mess with it/set it stone routine, but most of all, I have a hubby THAT HELPS OUT SO MUCH!! He is my partner in everything from cleaning to shuttling kids around, running errands and being there for us all.

  • Courtney Anderson May 17, 2018 at 6:01 am

I started watching Grey’s from the beginning a few months ago and haven’t regretted it since!! I am on season 7 now but I know I missed a lot of episodes over the years Between residency and living overseas. It is fun to see it all connect together!!

  • Anna May 17, 2018 at 6:07 am

Oh Grey’s…I’m so happy for you in the first handful of seasons (the best in my opinion) but will be worried for you after that! Ha!

  • Stephanie Landrum May 17, 2018 at 6:08 am

Love love me some greys!!!!!! It’s simply amazing!!!!!

  • Allison May 17, 2018 at 6:10 am

That video was amazing! I laughed and cried! Thanks for sharing!

  • Narci Dreffs May 17, 2018 at 6:11 am

Aw!! What a perfect Mother’s Day!! I just love that dress on you too! You know I’m shaking my head at Grey’s—I’d be lucky to wrap up 14 seasons in 14 years. 😉 You will probably be done by next month! Hahahahaha!!

  • Angie P. May 17, 2018 at 6:15 am

Greys!!! I binged it a year ago and was like, Where Have I Been??? I was watching 1-2 episodes a day and once I got to I think it’s Season 7….I slowed down. The whole season is slow and it took me awhile to get through it but now I am watching live each week. Love Greys! I am binging Scandal right now because of you and OMG! I am just about to finish Season 2.

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 6:19 am

Scandal (probably like Grey’s) hits a low spot around season 6…but hang in there!!!

  • Merideth May 17, 2018 at 6:15 am

Oh my gosh! So funny you said that about GA! I just started Season 1 last week as I work out on the treadmill. I remember watching it when it first started 14 years ago, and I’m having so much fun revisiting Seattle Grace and the original cast!!!

  • Lisa N May 17, 2018 at 6:30 am

On Grey’s, I was out after the Izzy/Denny storyline. But I know I’ve missed out on a lot because my daughter has been with it from the beginning. Seriously!😉

  • Tamara R. May 17, 2018 at 6:36 am

That video parody was hilarious! I recently started binge watching Grey’s too! I watched the first few seasons when it originally aired and then quit …I can’t quite remember why. And now it’s like watching it new because I hardly remember anything I watched before…except the Denny episode. 😬. I’m addicted and I have no one to talk to about it because everyone else watched it forever ago! Let’s start a Grey’s binge watchers Facebook group. Haha

  • Kristine G. May 17, 2018 at 6:38 am

I’m almost done reading Shonda Rhimes’ book Year of Yes, and now I want to watch all her shows especially Grays! You NEED to read her book Shay! It’s so good! I really wasn’t expecting to love it so much! I know you would love it too.

  • Valerie May 17, 2018 at 6:38 am

You will love Greys! Be prepared to cry a few times!

  • Ashley May 17, 2018 at 6:48 am

    Ok….so Grey’s…..
I watched episode 1, season 1 when it aired on TV and was immediately hooked. You will LOVE the first 5 seasons. Then you will still really like it for a few seasons but the wheels fall off around season 8. Shonda Rhimes is an emotional terrorist (…is that ok to say?!) haha
Everyone dies. No one can be happy. It gets tough.
The first few seasons though are GOLD. Love them.
Get the kleenex ready for the end of season 2. My goodness you will need them! You will also never listen to The Fray again without tearing up.
    Enjoy the (bumpy) ride!!

  • Lindsey May 17, 2018 at 6:50 am

Be careful with Greys!!! I had never watched it either and then one summer they started playing 3 episodes a day so it seemed like a good show to start binge watching. And yes I agree it was so good but it actually left me too emotional and depressed!! I gave it up after a while I couldn’t take the pressure anymore!

  • Kate May 17, 2018 at 6:55 am

Best decision you will ever make. I binged Greys earlier this year and I’m rewatching again because I can’t stop! It literally is the best show ever.

  • Julie May 17, 2018 at 7:00 am

Some may tell you Greys hits a low, but I love rewatching it. It’s so good!

  • Brooke Richardson May 17, 2018 at 7:00 am

Oh my gosh Greys! I hate to say it’s a classic because it’s not that old, it’s still going strong. Such a good show! Oh and as soon as the dates are released we are booking a Jan 2020 Disney Cruise, will have missed the giveaway date though, booooo. 🙂

  • Laci May 17, 2018 at 7:14 am

I have never watched Grey’s! Thinking I might need to binge!

  • Kristen May 17, 2018 at 7:15 am

When do you paint your nails so they have time to dry or do you use a quick dry top coat?

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 8:09 am

At night before bed. Then, I get in bed and watch a little TV. When I wake up, they’re good to go!

  • Morgan Godbold May 17, 2018 at 7:18 am

Grey’s Anatomy is so good! There are several things that happen that are a little crazy but overall the stories are so good!

  • Amanda Wilson May 17, 2018 at 7:22 am

Greys!!!!!!! I am a newbie Greys lover to but legit LOVE it!!!! You are going to want to talk about it all the time. Keep us posted on how you like it and where you are!!! I talk about Greys probably to often in real life because I swear there is a Greys episode that fits so much of life!! It may sound dumb but it changed my life!! It keeps me thanking God for every moment because you just never know what can happen!!!!

  • Beth Miller May 17, 2018 at 7:30 am

My youngest graduates Pre-K today too! So excited for this next chapter and both my girls being on the same schedule! I love Grey’s, and that’s saying a lot since I’m a nurse! The show portrays the doctors doing everything that nurses normally do! I spend most of the show talking to the TV like “nope, that’s not how it happens” and “nope, the nurses are the ones who connect with patients like that.” But I still love it! And yes, pretty much everyone dies!

  • Ramona May 17, 2018 at 7:50 am

Oh my goodness! That video was so great! I’m almost 63 so my daughters are grown and have their own homes, one has my two grandsons. The best memories are making memories with my girls, not keeping house, (which, by the way, is like shoveling snow when it’s still snowing! Why?!), your children will be little only a little while, play with them, enjoy them, love on them, love them to pieces!

  • Francesca May 17, 2018 at 7:53 am

Omg! I also binge-watched Grey’s Anatomy last January from the very beginning!! SO GOOD! I truly felt a void in my life when I was finished haha. And it just got renewed for season 15! Obsessed.

  • Marissa May 17, 2018 at 7:53 am

I did the same thing – 2 years ago! I came down with flu and started watching Grey’s. OBSESSED! I am on Season 12 now. It doesn’t even matter that you kind of know what happens – it’s just THAT good!

  • cassie {hi sugarplum} May 17, 2018 at 8:15 am

I love all these darling faces! And your Mother’s Day looks PERFECT!!

  • Katie May 17, 2018 at 8:16 am

What nail color are you wearing on Mother’s Day?

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 8:54 am

      OPI something…I need to look!!

  • Anna Henderson May 17, 2018 at 8:16 am

Ohhhh you’re getting yourself in deep with Grey’s! I love the earliest seasons because Shonda didn’t have quite the taste for blood back then! LOL! I can’t wait to hear what you think as the show progresses!!! Who’s your favorite on the show so far? Mine changes with every season, it seems like. I started binge watching it while looking for a job after moving to a new area for my husband’s work a few years ago…he’d come home and I’d be on the couch SOBBING watching it. Prepare yourself!! Ha!!

  • Abbie May 17, 2018 at 8:16 am

Grey’s is the best!! And you will love it! It does slow down for about a season or two but I loved it all! I still look forward to Thursdays when it comes on live. One of the best shows!

  • Angela Ellingson May 17, 2018 at 8:21 am

14 seasons does sound overwhelming! I listen to Becca Tilley’s podcast Scrubbing In, named after her love for Greys, so I kinda feel in the loop on the show. 😉

  • Alexandra C May 17, 2018 at 8:25 am

SHAY. You have made an excellent and terrible decision all at the same time. I’ve been in a relationship with Grey’s Anatomy for LITERALLY half of my life (I’m 28). I remember feeling so grown up when my mom didn’t tell me I couldn’t watch Grey’s with her. I know you said on the blog recently you were sleeping an extra 30 minutes each day, and while you may sleep later, I think it’s a safe bet you’ll be kissing sleeping extra goodbye. #CantStopWontStop

  • LeeAnn May 17, 2018 at 8:29 am

You always manage to look so put together! And I’m with you… I’m tired! LOL! I need a set in stone routine. In my head I KNOW it will help SO MUCH, but it’s the actually following through with it while managing everyone’s totally different schedules that makes it so difficult! I’m embracing it but I need some order! 🙂

  • Celeste May 17, 2018 at 8:30 am

I actually just finished bing watching Grey’s. It took me a little while to finish. Last week’s episode was the first time I watched it at the normal time. I hated that I had to wait a week to watch the season finale. Enjoy it, I loved it.

  • Kelly May 17, 2018 at 8:34 am

Have the best day with your sweet girl! I am so far behind any pop culture tv probably because I’ve been raising children non-stop for 36 years! ( We have 6, my oldest is 36 and the youngest are almost 17 year old twin boys add in 9, soon to be 10 grandchildren and that pretty much explains it;) BUT, I started watching Parenthood last summer (LOVE) then Madame Secretary (your recommendation, LOVE) and was just thinking about starting Grey’s. Summer is good time for me to watch a series, so I’m in!

  • Mindy May 17, 2018 at 8:45 am

So I have followed your blog for a very long time!! Thank you for sharing your life and family with us! I started binge watching Grey’s about a month ago. I never watched it when it first came out, I’m obsessed! I’m on season 5 and I’m really glad that the show is still on because I’m notorious for binge watching shows that are not on TV and it’s really disappointing when I’m done and I can’t watch anymore 🙂 Enjoy!

  • Shari Florio May 17, 2018 at 8:54 am

Shay, I ordered the maxi you shared in the royal blue and just ordered another one in the red because I love it so much!! I have a question though, how do you wash it? Do you dry clean it as recommended?? Thanks for sharing your favorite finds with us!

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 8:55 am

      I dry clean it!!

  • Emily May 17, 2018 at 9:00 am

I’m still a Greys junkie but I will admit there were a couple seasons in the middle that just weren’t that great but I stuck with it and it got better. They are sort of slacking again now so we shall see how many more seasons it is around for. Happy watching! Next up should be private practice 😉

  • Elizabeth May 17, 2018 at 9:05 am

I am so excited that you are watching Grey’s!! Definitely keep us updated on your thoughts as you go through the seasons!!!!!

  • Rebecca May 17, 2018 at 9:09 am

I’ve been a Grey’s fan since the first show & I love it! Just remember that very tragic, dramatic disasters & accidents occur, but it’s so good. I never wanted to quit, like others have bc I love the characters too much! It started when Friends & SATC ended & I needed a new show! Also, i’d Just had my first baby & spent many hours nursing & watching, ha! Hope you continue loving it! 😊

  • Raissa May 17, 2018 at 9:14 am

I recently did the same in binge watching grey’s at the end of last year into this year. Oh my word! It is all consuming but so worth it! Halfway through it really started to take over my mind, and I actually started to think the characters were my friends. I would go to text them in my phone and wonder why Derek/ Alex/ Meredith weren’t contact names I had to invite for happy hour after leaving the hospital (I don’t even work in the medical field!). Be careful for the low point you’ll hit when you run out of episodes to binge, and have to wait for it weekly like the rest of society.

  • Sara May 17, 2018 at 9:27 am

I’ve watched Grey’s since the beginning. I’ve wanted to quit a few times when I’ve gotten behind on my DVR watching but I remind myself that I’ve invested over a decade of my life in this show so gosh darn it I’m not quitting. And you know what? I’m glad I’ve stuck with it because it’s still SO GOOD. Enjoy!

  • Rachel May 17, 2018 at 9:33 am

Grey’s is SO great – I’ve been on board from day one and still watch. The show has definitely changed – I think the first 7 seasons or so are like the “golden years.” However, I can’t quit it! I can’t wait to hear your thoughts! Season 2, Episode “Into You Like a Train” emotionally wrecked me but it is SO good. There are so many good episodes! So many of the guest stars give amazing performances! Great choice to binge!

  • DANIELLE K RIGG May 17, 2018 at 9:37 am

I LOVE Grey’s!!!! You should also try How To Get Away With Murder another series by Shonda Rhimes, if you don’t already.

  • Amy May 17, 2018 at 9:41 am

Yes Shay! I am so glad you’re watching Grey’s! My freshman college roommate convinced me to start it because I was pre-med, and I got through all the 12 seasons that had aired at that point in my first year of college! Now I’m starting my senior year and still hooked. You gotta stick with it!! 🙂

  • Lauren D May 17, 2018 at 9:43 am

Ok, so Grey’s Anatomy. I watched it until
Season five. Then I decided it wasn’t fun anymore and I was too sad about it week after week so I stopped. I watched a few episodes here and there since then but never kept at it. My friends were adamant that I was missing out. So I had surgery recently and decided to start from season one. I’m approaching the episode where I stopped last time and I gotta be honest – I feel like I might stop again. It’s a great show but Shonda just breaks our hearts way too much!

  • Erin May 17, 2018 at 10:04 am

I have watched Greys since season 1 and it is my favorite show ever. Funny story I always like to share with Grey’s fans – When one of the characters died one season, I was about 8-9 weeks pregnant. The scene came on where this character died, and I lost it. hysterical, bawling, just a mess. I went out to the living room and was a crying so hard, my husband started freaking out. I couldn’t get out what was wrong and he thought something was wrong with the baby, like I was miscarrying. Finally I was able to get it out that the character died and went into a long explanation about why it was so sad. Needless to say, my husband was not happy when he realized my freaking out was over a tv show character dying.

  • Kim May 17, 2018 at 10:15 am

Grey’s is AMAZING!! But be careful too – when I binge watch it, I find myself worrying too much about that freckle I’ve always had on my arm or a little headache I got one day last month (is it a tumor?!). Does anyone else ever get this way when they watch too many medical dramas at once?!

  • Amanda @ That Inspired Chick May 17, 2018 at 10:25 am

What?!!! I had no idea you’d never watched Gray’s!!! I would have talked you into that a long time ago!! Enjoy that roller coaster ride!! It’s so good!
    That Inspired Chick

  • Cara May 17, 2018 at 10:25 am

Hi Shay- do you mind to share a link to Kensington’s dress and your cute hot pink shoes?
Another question that is random is type of suv/ car you recommend. I drive a minivan but want our next car a suv. I want good gas mileage and storage!
    Thank you!

    • Mix and Match Mama May 17, 2018 at 3:31 pm

My shoes have are Steve Madden from Nordstrom and her dress is Lilly Pulitzer (also from Nordstrom!).

  • Shelby Hennigar May 17, 2018 at 10:50 am

Grey’s is my favorite show!!! My sis-in-law text back and forth during most episodes comments like “oh my gosh! Can you believe that?!!” So good!! You will love it!! That video is the best!!! Enjoy your day!! My last preschooler graduates next Wednesday!😭😭😭😭

  • Paige May 17, 2018 at 10:50 am

Grey’s is the best! It gets a little iffy in some of the middle seasons, but just power through, it gets good again! I’ve been watching since the beginning so I was committed, and I’m so glad I stuck with it.

  • Kelly May 17, 2018 at 11:25 am

Shay!!!! So funny you say that because I binged watched all 14 seasons in 5 months…it was AMAZING! I’m now onto Private Practice because Addison Montgomery from Grey’s was my favorite character and I think PP is even better than Grey’s. Enjoy!!!!

  • Sarah May 17, 2018 at 12:24 pm

I’m super jealous you are watching Grey’s Anatomy from the beginning for your first time! I wish I could go back and re-watch having never seen it before. It’s THAT good!! Prepare to shed a lot of tears… Shonda is good at making you do that! Ha ha!

  • carolyn May 17, 2018 at 12:31 pm

looking for your recipe for Pecan and Cranberry cheese ball. Followed a link but it wasn’t there. Could you help, please? Thanks in advance.

  • Kim May 17, 2018 at 1:30 pm

That video was TOO funny! I was actually holed up in my room with my chocolate stash when I started it, so that was perfect timing! 😉 And then the part with the Mom singing the clean-up song just CRACKED ME UP! Thanks for sharing!

  • Nicole May 17, 2018 at 1:46 pm

I just finished binging all 13 seasons of Grey’s last night! I love it and I’m not sure why I didn’t watch in the beginning. Be prepared to cry!

  • Carrie Burke May 17, 2018 at 1:57 pm

Don’t stop!!! There are a few seasons that are slow and could be skipped but don’t stop!! Then you get to seasons like this and you fall in love again! #AlexKarevForever

  • Hanna May 17, 2018 at 2:18 pm

Ohmygosh yay!!! I started watching Greys 4 (4!!!) years ago and I am JUST now caught up. Get ready for tears followed by more tears. Love it!

  • heather May 17, 2018 at 3:20 pm

Ahhh….I binged on the first five seasons of Grey’s. But, the writer made me so mad at one point, I had to stop. Haha.

I LOVE that nail polish color. Perfect for summer. 🙂

  • Diana May 18, 2018 at 5:54 am

YAY for Grey’s! I started watching it when I was on maternity leave with my son two years ago and I am now caught up 🙂 AMAZING.SHOW! And it’s kind of cool how the show has been able to survive with main characters being “killed off”.

  • Michelle Eberly May 19, 2018 at 2:21 pm

Did you see the new Kindle Oasis? Thought of you and your waterproof question.

  • Lo May 21, 2018 at 12:50 am

I agree with what seems to be the general consensus- Early Grey’s is some of the best television you’ll find. I still rewatch the first 4-6 season regularly. It does go downhill, simply because watching a show where nobody gets a happy ending and everyone dies gets old. But the early years are definitely worth it.

  • Bethany May 21, 2018 at 10:29 am

My husband and I started watching Grey’s from the beginning a few weeks ago! I had never watched an episode, so i’m just like you and HOOKED!

    • Mix and Match Mama May 21, 2018 at 11:45 am

      I cannot stop!!!
