It’s What’s Up Wednesday!
Insert me doing a little jig right here! I love WUW!!
Here’s what we do, once a month, my friends Mel, Sheaffer and I host this link up where we share some random and fun stuff that’s up with us today. If you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up at the bottom of the post! Every month, we answer these questions…
…in our What’s Up Wednesday posts!
Today, I’m doing something I’ve never done before…I’m partnering with MACY’S!
I love shopping at my typical stores all the time, but when Macy’s approached me about sponsoring a post, I thought, “you know what? I bet my peeps would like a little Macy’s in their life to spice things up!”. So, I have some fall fashion finds from them to share today along with my other WUW stuff. Bonus, today through the 30th is Macy’s Fall Fashion Event & Fall Home Sale where when you use the code FALL, you get 20% off. Who doesn’t like that?! And who doesn’t like this…
…bahahahaha! My house smells like that year around 🙂 .
Loads of fun Macy’s stuff plus other fun WUW finds. Here’s what’s up today…
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
I did it.
I finally poached my chicken in the Instant Pot instead of the slow cooker.
I am ALWAYS poaching chicken in the slow cooker for recipes that night…but SO MANY of you told me to poach it in the Instant Pot instead, so I did! I placed my chicken in there (2 pounds) along with 2 cups of water, put the lid on and set the manual timer for 15 minutes. Friends! My chicken was all nice and poached when it was over! I shredded it right up and was able to use it in my recipe immediately. Now, they don’t say this in the recipes…but it took about 8-1o minutes for my pot to come up to pressure and then about 6 minutes to release the pressure at the end, so all in all, it took me about 30ish minutes to poach it…but it was easy, tender and delicious! If you missed my INSTANT POT REVIEW, click HERE. I share my first time experience and then so many readers weigh in with their tips, tricks, thoughts and ideas.
Also, make sure you click HERE today to see this…
…my HARVEST CRUNCH SNACK MIX. This was a hit after school with my kiddos!
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
A few days ago marked two years since we’ve been home with Madeley James. Look at those happy faces!! Nothing makes you happier than surviving 24+ hours of flying with four kids. Hahaha!
What an adventure that was!! Those are some of my very favorite memories. You can read this post HERE if you just want to reminisce with me. I wrote it two years ago today!!
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
Friends! Look at all the cute FALL stuff I found at MACY’S…
This dress!!! Eeeeeks! I had no idea that Macy’s had seasonal outfits like this. Did you? Have I been missing out for years????? I bought Madeley this one and then look at this one for Thanksgiving…
This Thanksgiving one comes with leggings as does this one…
…I’m obsessed!
I’m also obsessed with these mugs…
It is a fact that coffee and tea taste better in fall mugs.
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Still thinking about Kensington’s birthday 🙂 . I feel like we’ve been “up to” that a lot lately.
Hi, my name is Shay and I dread the hot weather during the fall.
It makes me angry.
Like really angry.
I should move.
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Things are getting super FUN over at my travel agency!! We’re giving away a $3000 gift card from us to you to plan a trip in 2019. See all the details HERE. We love, love, love working with you guys and can’t wait to do more of it next year!!
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
My kiddos already picked out their Halloween costumes for this year and let’s just say…some are hysterical! We’re all so pumped about wearing them!!!
My September Book Review was up yesterday…
…I read FOUR really good books!! Click HERE to read about them!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Thanks to you ladies, I’ve been listening to this while I work…
When I asked for Fall movie suggestions to listen to while I work, so many of you said this one! I hadn’t seen it in years and now, I bet I’ve watched it three times in the last two weeks. I really tried hard to find a pic of me when I was dating Andrew because I had that haircut. Hahaha! She was so cute in the movie that I wanted that haircut too. I totally didn’t pull it off like Reese. Anyone else have this haircut???
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
Well, since I’m partnering with Macy’s today, I thought I better head there to check out some fun finds. Look at all the cute FALL things I found…
…this dress is adorable!!
Those bell sleeves make my heart happy as do the fall colors. If you see me at church on Sunday, I’ll be the one wearing this!!
Okay, look at this cute fall outfit! The striped sweater with the stretchiest jeans and super cute booties by Vince Camuto (who I always love!)…
Aren’t the booties cute? And the color of those jeans are good too (it’s called Wright). They were really stretchy and easy to wear.
But…
…I love the sweater in this color combo most of all!
My uniform in the fall and winter is skinny jeans, booties, sweater and repeat. Basically, this outfit here…
Skinny jeans, booties and a super cute sweater!!
I found so many other cute sweaters at Macy’s this season! I was actually really blown away by them. Here are some of the others I liked (just scroll)…
Annnnnnnd…it’s beginning to look a lot like…
…CHRISTMAS PAJAMAS!! I love, love, love wearing holiday pajamas!! Macy’s had several different styles and patterns! I loved these but then thought THESE were cute too!!
Don’t forget, shop between today and the 30th for 20% off when you use the code FALL!
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
Oktoberfest!!!!
I. Am. So. Pumped.
We take our Oktoberfest-ing very seriously!!
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
Can I just say everything? I am just so excited about OCTOBER!
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I think that covers it for today!!
Bonus question this month: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE PUMPKIN THING TO EAT/DRINK?
Well, I love all things pumpkin. In fact, you can see all my pumpkin recipes HERE. One of my favorite ways to eat pumpkin is in savory dishes like…
…PUMPKIN BREAD & SAUSAGE BREAKFAST CASSEROLE.
Okay! That’s What’s Up Wednesday today!
Thank you Macy’s and ShopStyle for sponsoring today’s post! Don’t forget to use promo code FALL for 20% off between now and the 30th!
If you blogged too, make sure you link up below. I hope you guys have a fantastic day!!

Did you get the short length in the Jessica Simpson Jean’s? I am about the about the same height as you but find alot of the jeans run long especially when wearing with booties. I like more of an ankle style and being on the shorter side I don’t always get that. But then sometimes short sizes are too short!!
Mix and Match Mama says
No, I’m 5’3″ and those are the normal length jeans.
Erika Slaughter says
Ahhhhhh!!!! Two years home with Madeley Shull and I can barely remember life without her! Crazy how that happens! And Sweet Home Alabama is one of my absolute favorites!
Beth Knecht says
I’m so excited you did a Macy’s post! We have one a bit closer than we do a Nordstrom, so it is a bit easier for me to pop into a store!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yay! I’m happy to hear that, Beth!
Laine says
Possible silly question, but I notice you’ve been wearing all of your featured sweaters with a long white tank underneath. Do the sweaters run short?
Mix and Match Mama says
Not a silly question! I just like to layer a tank under most tops, but especially sweaters. I’m 5’3″, and I wouldn’t say they run short.
Elspeth Mizner says
Love this!!! I love fall just as much as you do too!
Eileen says
I love those mugs!
Sheaffer Sims says
You found some great sweaters! And Madeley is going to be so stinkin’ cute in those outfits!
NicoleinWI says
Everytime I watch Sweet Home Alabama (which is a lot because it is my favorite guilty pleasure movie) – I want to cut my hair like her! It never looks as cute.
I hope you have seen To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before on Netflix. Not a fall movie per se, but the best new romantic comedy I have seen in a while
Danielle says
Those dresses are just too cute!!! Eeek!
Narci says
Those mugs are adorable!!! And, those pics of you bringing Madeley home two years ago have me all teary! She is just precious, and it feels like she’s always been here! Love that cute girl!
Connie B. says
Oh my goodness! Those are the cutest outfits for Madeley! Cute mugs! ? I love Macy’s! That’s where I bought our Elf on the Shelf (Carter) several years ago! (On sale and with a coupon) Also, When do you buy the children’s Christmas plates at Pottery Barn? They are always sold out, or only have like one pattern left when I go look online. Thanks Shay! Happy Fall!
Mix and Match Mama says
Yesterday. Hahahaha!
Angie seda says
Where do you ship for your kids Halloween outfits? So cute! Love the little red riding hood costume!
Mix and Match Mama says
I typically google them and get them off of sites like halloweensupercenter.com and such.
April Parrish says
I feel the same way about the weather. We live in eastern NC and it’s going to be HOT for several more weeks.
Brooke Richardson says
Those mugs most definitely make the coffee better 😉 and love your fall finds at Macy’s!!!! I wish we had a Macy’s as big as the one in NYC!!!!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
Love me some Sweet Home Alabama any time of the year! It’s my favorite Reese movie. I’ve been looking for some fall dresses and it looks like macy’s has some good ones!

Clare Butler says
Who knew Macy’s has so many cute things?! This post is all the good things about fall!! My fave way to have pumpkin right now is in a protein shake – almond milk, pumpkin puree, vanilla protein and some pumpkin pie spice!!
Jen says
Do you wear any kind of socks with your booties? Or just go barefoot?
Mix and Match Mama says
I go barefoot…but I’m weird like that 😉 .
Tracy R. says
Hi! Love the Tommy Hilfiger sweaters! Can you tell me what size sweater you are wearing?
Yay to bring Madeley home two years ago!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
xsmall! I know, right?! I can’t imagine life without her!
Yvonne C says
Here is a little fall/pumpkin recipe for you. Your fall snack mix totally reminded me of this pretzel recipe. It is pumpkin spice dipped pretzels. You melt 2 cups white chocolate chips with a tsp of coconut oil (I just melt it in the microwave) and when melted, add in a teaspoon and a half of pumpkin pie spice and stir together. Dip your pretzels in and lay out on parchment paper or wax paper to dry. So yummy! I might make your snack mix with these pretzels. They are my favorite fall snack!

Well those Macy’s finds are darling!!! I’ve found some great deals on shoes there lately, too!! Happy almost-October, friend!!
Taylor says
I am SO WITH YOU on hot fall weather… C’mon, TX. I have Fall clothes to wear, and warm fall meals to make, etc. etc. #allfallthings Please cooperate. 😉 I happened to be in NYC the same weekend you were and NYC is always perfection, but I was the teeniest bit disappointed that it hadn’t cooled off yet (even though I know it was a bit early to hope for that)..
Bri @ My Life As... says
Now I really want to watch Sweet Home Alabama again! I haven’t seen it in ages either. Those mugs are super cute & I am so with you on the heat in the fall. I’m originally from MN & even though I’ve been in Texas for almost 7 years now I still hate that there is no real fall down here. Give me sweater weather & pretty leaves!
Julie Goolsby says
Ok, so your ire at hot weather in the fall cracked me up!!! Then I’m here in Alaska where that chilly weather starts way to early for most of us…….sigh.
#toomuchfall
Meg says
Oh my goodness, I totally did that haircut too! Love that movie and all things fall 🙂
Kara says
Hi Shay! Any recommendations on where to get fall/pumpkin/thanksgiving outfits for Kensington’s age? My daughter is in a 12/14 and she still loves to wear the holiday themed outfits but I am having the hardest time finding them in her size!
Mix and Match Mama says
Etsy!!
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
I need to see a picture of you with your Sweet Home Alabama haircut! And Madeley in pumpkins and ruffles is just too cute! Happy Wednesday!!

I love Macy’s(maybe because I’m from NY?) and yes, you’ve been missing out!! I’ve always bought the most adorable seasonal pajamas for my boys there. They have such cute, great quality cotton pjs for Halloween,Thanksgiving and Christmas! How I miss those days…at least now you know and you can shop, shop ,shop! Love all the goodies you’ve purchased. Have a great day!
Allison says
Madeley is darling in that dress! She is so cute! It’s hard to believe we’re nearing the end of September and approaching holidays. I need to grab those flannel plaid pjs. I waited too long last year and missed my size. Love the dress on you! Perfect for Fall. May I ask what size you’re wearing? I think I’m going to order that with the pjs. Thank you!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’m wearing a 2. I love those pjs so much too!!
Amanda says
Reese’s hair – did I – oh honey I did! And I wore it like that for like three years! It’s so funny that this came up because yesterday I was like I NEED TO CUT ALL MY HAIR OFF luckily, I didn’t. I cannot. Cute booties. Cuter babies! xo
Laura says
I love Sweet Home Alabama! I’m from Birmgham 🙂 Did you know the movie was filmed in Georgia? HAHA
Reese has been doing her book tour for Whiskey in a Teacup!! My mom and I saw her at the Alabama Theater last week! Have you read it? There’s different recipes and a lot of her childhood! I bet you’d love it!
Heather says
Love your blog! Please do a fall home tour. 🙂
Mother of 3 says
I just love Macy’s; I almost always find something that fits just right (and I have a hard time with that!). Thanks so much for hosting. I am really having a fun time with these WUW posts!
Debbie says
Great post Shay! A little of everything and I love seeing all your great finds from Macy’s! BTW, what doesn’t look good on you? Is there really anything? LOL! You are gorgeous! ?
Alexis deZayas says
I can totally relate to everything pumpkin around here! I brought my puppy to be boarded this weekend and they were raving over how good she smelled. I couldn’t figure out what it was and realized later that she smells like pumpkin because of all of my fall candles/plug ins 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Hahahahahaha!
Leanne Gilchrist says
Shay!! I never thought to look at Macy’s!! I’m a sweater fanatic! I love new ideas for sweaters. Madeley is the most. That’s what we say at our house, when we just can’t find the right adjective for something that is totally freaking awesome. It really seems like Madeley has been yours forever. And I’m an Autumn fanatic, as well! You ought to get up to the NW for Fall, it’s absolutely astonishing and so gorgeous here. The coast, the rivers, the mountains….it’s the most!! LOL. I haven’t seen Sweet Home Alabama, but now I want to, I do like Reese Witherspoon! Thanks for all of the amazing ideas. I’m still praying for Ashby, and always will, and also, for all of your family. Happy Autumn from the Pacific NW!!
Shelly says
Dangit Shay! Sweet Home Alabama is one of my faves ever…AND…when it came out I went straight to my hair stylist and had my hair cut like that….only it never looked as cute. Now seeing this picture…I’m wondering if I should try one more time. haha Best movie…and the soundtrack is awesome too!
Mix and Match Mama says
She looks adorable in that haircut, right?! I loved mine…but I wasn’t nearly as cute as Reese 😉 .
Sara says
LOLING @ your #5! I live in Mississippi, so I feel your pain. I hate leaving my house this time of year because I want to wear ALL the sweaters and vests and scarves, etc, but it’s just too dang hot! URGH! Laughed at your feeling the same as me! Here’s to a cold front coming soon – hopefully!
Kelly Buffington says
Give me all the seasonal girlie outfits! So cute:) I haven’t seen Sweet Home Alabama in years, need to rectify that soon. I watch You’ve Got Mail every fall and it always makes me want to move to New York City but only if I can live in a brownstone on the Upper West Side:).
Mix and Match Mama says
I loooooooove that one!! And yessss to the Upper West Side!
Judith says
Random, I know, but Overstock also has the most darling seasonal clothes like that ones pictured. So does Dillards.
Cindy Shook says
I also had the haircut….and for as long as I had it, my sweet husband quoted her mama….”are you tired? You look tired…maybe it’s just the way you’re wearing your hair…” I loved it though!!
