On Monday morning, Andrew and I put our marriage to the test…we went to New York for the day to see the Sox play at Yankee Stadium 🙂 .
Just kidding…we were both really good sports about it! As many times as we’ve seen our teams play, we’ve never gone to a game just the two of us, so we were due. When we thought there might be a chance the Yankees would make it into the first round of the playoffs (the Sox were firmly established there since they do, after all, have the best record in baseball this year…hahahaha!), we bought tickets for Game 3 which was played this past Monday night.
Here we are on the plane! New York City bound!! (Side note: I’m wearing the comfiest sweater EVER. It feels like chenille!) .
We landed around 3:00, checked into our hotel, changed clothes and hit the streets…
Hotel selfie 🙂
Our favorite neighborhood in NYC is the Upper West Side. We walked from Central Park South all the way to 103rd St. We just strolled and enjoyed the beautiful (and a little rainy) New York afternoon. We stopped at The Smith to sit on the patio and have a little late lunch/snack as we walked.
We walked and walked…and enjoyed. I loved seeing all the pumpkins out on Columbus Ave. We had a handful of people comment on our wardrobe. Ha! Everyone was so sweet about it though.
We walked until 103rd when we caught the subway all the way to the Bronx. This was my first time at Yankee Stadium, so I was super excited!! As much as I hate those Yankees, you can’t discount the history of that organization.
Ah! I love this particular Yankee so much!
We had great seats!
View from our seats. We settled in and were ready for the game!
Well, Yankee Stadium, you sure do know how to bring the FOOD! Holy cow! We had brisket with pasta salad on top and…
…dare I say the best pulled pork nachos I’ve ever had. The food was unbelievable! So, was the score…
My Sox all lined up on the field!
Now, I have to give it to my uber competitive husband. He was SUCH A GOOD SPORT!
We laughed and laughed and laughed as the score got crazy high and the Yankee fans ran out of the stadium in droves.
This fan stuck it out to the very end.
16 to 1.
A very fun game for one of us 😉 .
The next morning came early. Here we are leaving the hotel and heading back to the airport. (My sweater is HERE.) I am so thankful we went on this quick trip! It was super short, but super special. xo

You guys are so stinkin cute! Love that you guys have the good graces to enjoy a quick trip like that cheering opposing teams! Hope to see you in Houston next week, but I’ll be rooting for my beloved Astros (although I was rooting for you to pull through last week – I am not a Yankees fan either 🙁 )!

Looks like you had a fun trip 🙂

First, Ashby’s picture with her Fair win on IG…precious!
Second, the food. Holy cow. Stadium food has changed sincecI was a kid in the 80s and went to see the Cubs play. I thought Cracker Jacks was fun. ??
Lastly, I look Andrew’s expression of him in the last picture of you two in the stadium. The defeat days it all. ???
My son is a Sox’s fan & my SIL a Yankee (Stankee’s as Colton calls them.) They had a nice bet going throughout the series and banter back and forth. I have to say, my child is $100 dollars richer. It was a hefty bet. One we were willing to make him pay since he agreed on it. But no lesson to teach. ???? Stankee’s lost….

I’m from Boston and am a HUGE Sox fan! My family and I were vacationing in Disney, but that didn’t stop us from watching the Sox crush the Yankees!
Tracy Doubts says
I agree, you guys are soooo cute! And kudos to Andrew. My husband would not have been such a good sport! lol

I’m a Red Sox fan and my fiancé is Yankees fan. We live in Boston so every trip to Fenway includes him wearing a Yankees hat (whether they’re playing or not). This was a fun series!
Jenna says
I love that you both went together. We are Mariner fans in this house so our team doesn’t make the playoff’s very often! Hahaha! We still love the playoffs though!

Those three photos of you and Andrew had me laughing! From Smiling to hiding his face to his mean face! haha!

Glad your Sox won, but now they play our Astros!!

GO SOX!! How were the fans to you at Yankee Stadium and when you left? I thought about this the whole time you were there!

There weren’t many left when the game was over… 😉

I was so happy when you posted on IG that you and Andrew were at the Sox/Yankee’s game! It just seems like such a Shull thing to do:). And, kudos to Andrew for being such a good sport!!
Patty says
Yankee stadium doesn’t have a history. They tore down where Ruth played just to build something new. I am a Boston Fan forever so I am thrilled with the outcome. GGGGGGGGGGGGGGOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO SSSOOOOXXXXXX
Mix and Match Mama says
Well, the club certainly has a lot of history. Those 27 World Series wins are hard to ignore! It’s super cool that you see the old stadium ground right next to the new one.
kellie carrara says
So fun! And what an amazing game! We were cheering for our Sox right along with you! (sorry, not sorry, Andrew!)
Fingers crossed for more wins!
Lauren says
That looks so fun!!! Who watched your kids since your parents were on vacation? Also what hotel did you guys stay in? Would you recommend it? Love your posts! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
We stayed at the JW Marriott on Central Park South and a friend from church watched them 🙂 .

I love that you did this and I can relate – after the last out on Tuesday I immediately booked a flight from LA to Boston for 48 hours this weekend so I can go home and watch the ALCS!! Go sox!!
Erin says
So fun!! Boston area Sox fan here, my hubby and I went to Game 4 and I had to hide my hat on the way into the stadium! Yankee fans were not so nice that night- yikes!

Impressed that your marriage thrives despite this rivalry! 😉 Now you need to bring the other RS fans in your family and come see them play the Astros in Houston. Should be a great series!
Liz Thorson says
Love you and Andrew’s passion for your teams over your Texas Rangers and Astros. What a fun 24 hrs. for you! Poor Andrew! One of our brother-in-laws grew up in NYC and is a die-hard Yankee fan living in San Francisco! His daughter is a Yankee fan, too! I’ve been a Mariners fan for decades but grew up in N. CA, loving the Giants as a little girl and then became an As fan since I went to UC Berkeley. We lived the 1st yr. of our marriage in Boston, a 10 min. walk from Fenway and the As and Boston we’re in the ALS playoff that yr.—1975. The Sox took the series then, too 3-0! Such fun, exciting memories. Is Catherine a Mariners fan, still?❤️
C. says
Love the blog! I love your recipes too! As a west coast baseball fan I can root for the Sox….. never a NY fan though….. enjoy.
Dianna says
I just love this! It makes me want to do spontaneous 24 hour trips with my husband.
Beth Knecht says
Love the Upper West Side and any stroll throughout Central Park! Which airport do you typically fly into and do you find Uber to be the best way into the city?
Mix and Match Mama says
LaGuardia! We either take a cab or a car service out of the airport. Uber takes too long (in my opinion) there.
Melissa Gutierrez says
Do you have suggestion for a good hotel in the city? We are taking our daughter for her 18th bday and want to be close to a lot of activity, but also want it to be affordable…I’d love some suggestions 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I have stayed at several that I like: Hyatt by Grand Central Station, JW Marriott Central Park South, Marriott Marquee and Millennium Broadway.
Paula B. says
It’s always so fun for this New England lady when you post about the Red Sox/Yankees rivalry at your house. And, how exciting that you got to go to a playoff game. Too bad it wasn’t more of a contest that night (just sayin’). The “pasta salad” on one of your ballpark meals looks like mac and cheese? I hear they have quite the array of food offerings at Yankee Stadium not so much at Fenway other than the standard hot dogs, pizza, sausages, and snack items. I know you’ll be rooting along with the rest of Red Sox Nation as we continue on this week with the next round of post season play. Go Sox!
