Okay, on to today’s post! Once a month, my friends Mel, Sheaffer and I host this link up where we share some random and fun stuff that’s up with us today. If you blogged WUW too, make sure you link up at the bottom of the post! Every month, we answer these questions…
…in our What’s Up Wednesday posts!
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
MEAL PLANNING MONDAY to the rescue HERE!
I also want to remind you about…
…my 1 DOUGH RECIPE = 10 DIFFERENT COOKIES!
This really is the only Christmas cookie recipe you need for the season! Find out how to turn one dough recipe into 10 different cookies HERE.
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
I saw this pic the other day and it gave me all the happy feels!!
Oh my gosh! Can you stand the cuteness?! This was November 16, 2015…so about 10 months after we got our sweet Ashby London. She’s three years old here. Ugh! My heart about burst when I saw this. I love this girl so much!!!!
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
I wore this sweater to Thanksgiving with my family (I have no pics of myself in it…but trust me, I had it on but in another color), and my grandmother loved it, so look what she sent me three days later…
..isn’t she beautiful?! I love that my grandmother is still cool enough to shop at Altar’d State and buy the same sweater as me 🙂 . I love this woman so much!! This pic made me so happy!
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
ALL.THE.CHRISTMAS.FUN
Here was my view the other night…
…we were watching Christmas with the Kranks together. Then, Andrew took this pic…
…bahahahaha! Andrew sat in a chair by himself and enjoyed the movie…I was a kid magnet 😉 .
Stressing out over stupid things.
Hi, my name is Shay and I rarely ever stress out over big things (I have an easy time giving those over to God), but boy…the stupid, little holiday things can sure stress me out.
This is something I pray about often because it’s so dumb. Something major? Oh, I take that straight to the Lord and let him handle it. Having to find time to address my Christmas cards? That will stress me right on out.
What is wrong with me.
I really need to keep working on this.
A lot.
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
Ohhhhhhhh! Sheaffer and I have tricks up our sleeves!!! Stay tuned tomorrow and Friday!!!
7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
Please see above 🙂 .
My November Book Review was up yesterday…
…I read four holiday books!! Click HERE to read about them and get yourself into the holiday spirit!
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Right this very minute, Nat King Cole sing God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen. #allthehappyfeels
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
Besides these cute scarves?!
Click HERE to get them 50% off today with code mixandmatchscarves!!!
Well, I can’t quit these shoes and these earrings…
…I wore them with this jacket and scarf…
…and then again with my Buffalo plaid sweater (from last year, but HERE is a similar one)…and then again…
…with my black jacket and this scarf.
They’re both so easy to throw on! The shoes are comfy and the earrings are light…the perfect combination!
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
All three of my girlies are in a recital this weekend! Loads of super cute pics to come next week 🙂 .
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
ALL.THE.CHRISTMAS.FUN.AND.CHEER.
I.CANNOT.GET.ENOUGH.
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
Last but not least, look how happy I am…
…I got a Night Pillow 🙂 .
Here I am cozy in bed (in my plaid sheets no less!) with my Kindle and resting on my Night Pillow. #bliss
Hahahaha! So, you know I’m a big fan of My Pillows, but when my friend Ashley Spivey asked me if I wanted her to send me a Night Pillow, I was like SURE! Friends, if you are not a fan of the lumpy (yet delightful) My Pillow, then THIS PILLOW IS FOR YOU! I love them both, but they’re very different!! This Night Pillow is memory foam, so the whole thing is very different from other pillows I’ve used in the past. BUT the best part? The pillow case it comes with helps make your hair shiny and helps with your skin. #winning I slept on it one night and then Kensington wanted to use it the second night…the third night, Smith used it and the fourth night, I demanded it back 🙂 . I’ve slept on it now five nights in a row and honest to goodness really like it! You can learn all about it HERE. When I told Ashley that I liked it, she got me a promo code for you guys! With code Shay30 you get 30% OFF YOUR ENTIRE ORDER! Let me know if you’ve tried this before! I am really loving mine!!
Bonus question this month: WHAT’S YOUR FAVORITE THING TO DO WITH YOUR ELF ON THE SHELF?
I’m always looking for more ideas when it comes to this!! Once, I did a post on our elf and ideas we use that you can read HERE. I would say that the one my kids get the biggest kick out of is this one…
…the elf starts a puzzle and then as the day goes by, the Elf builds on the puzzle when the kids aren’t looking. By the end of the day, the puzzle is completed. We do all sorts of sneaky things to work a piece in here and there and my kids always think it’s so funny.
Okay! That’s What’s Up Wednesday today!
If you blogged too, make sure you link up below.
There is so much info in this one post!! Don’t forget to enter the Rafflecopter below for your chance to win this…

I was intrigued, but honestly, I really like it!

I’m not sure what I love more…the pic of precious 3 year old Ashby in her leopard vest…..or the picture of your grandmother in her cut out sweater. 🙂 And I love your scarves!!!!
Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams says
The photo of you with the kids is a keeper! I get all the Christmas feels looking at your living room decor too. I haven’t heard of the night pillow but if it helps with skin, hair and sleeping sign me up!
Happy Wednesday!

Checked out the night pillow and their beauty pillow. Not sure what the difference is between them.
Cute pic of little Ashby!
Mix and Match Mama says
I have the night pillow. The memory foam is so nice!!

Random question. How was the nutcracker movie? Did your kids enjoy it? I’ve heard mix reviews. My closest movie theater is 45 min drive and not sure if is worth it or not?! Your kids are the same ages as mine so I thought I’d see if they liked it?
Mix and Match Mama says
I only took my three girls and they all loved it. I’m glad I didn’t take Smith because I absolutely do not think he would have enjoyed it.
Brooke says
I’m so glad you addressed the topic of stressing about the small stuff! I have the hardest time dealing with all this! Not sure what to do about it either. I have to just say no to many of them, but then feel disappointed that I didn’t get it done! It brings out the worst in me.
Christy says
What color nail polish do you have on in the first picture? LOVE the picture of the kids and you watching a movie! Have a good day!!!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
That’s OPI I’m Not Really A Waitress!!
Erin Port says
I can’get enough of the delightfully sweet Debbie Macomber holiday books this year. I have read 4 so far and have 2 more on my nightstand to enjoy in December :).

Elf on the shelf ideas: You can cut the face out of Snap, Krackle or Pop on a box of a Rice Krispies and put the Elf on the Shelf in the box with its face in the spot, kind of poking out. I bought a box of two shiney gold drink floating blow up holders for a pool at Target after summer, and after it snowed one night, I put the elf sitting in one with a white scarf I made from felt. Like he wanted to go play in the snow. I’ve made little Elf hats with felt and tape them on the kids heads in photos I have framed and just sit the elf near the frame. I drew minion faces on our bananas before with the elf and sharpie near them. You can make a Snowman out of marsh mallows, and toothpicks to hold it together and use tooth picks for the arms, draw face and buttons with a sharpie. If you have a box of Froot Loops you can make a necklace for the Elf out of some with string or dental floss. You can have the Elf fishing for goldfish or Swedish fish. (If you have the fishing game you can use the pole out of that) If you have a Barbie car, it’s fun to put the Elf and a Barbie in it like they went for a ride. Hahaha!! I’ve done all of these, your kids will love it all!
Connie B. says
Another cute one was I made a tiny match size box that said Elf Donuts/doughnuts or use a match box if you have one. And I put Cheerios or froot loops with a tiny bit of frosting and put sprinkles on them, like he brought the kids some donuts! Or make a tree on the table with green and red m&ms or spell Be Good. ? Have a great day Shay!

Your Grandmother is fabulous!

Where did your deer decor come from, holding the ornaments?
Mix and Match Mama says
A store in McKinney called Homeology!
Ralinn says
I love the picture of all of you on the sofa. It looks like a cozy spot to me. And Ashby in the vest and Hunter boots. She is so adorable. I love this time of year. A cozy fireplace and sparkling lights. We don’t do Elf on the Shelf. Our children are grown. Thanks for another fun giveaway.
Sara Robinson says
Can you put the link in for the sweet sweater your grandma is wearing? Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
I just looked (again) for it and Altar’d State’s website isn’t showing it, but it’s a recent purchase so I know it’s there!
Jenna says
What a fun recap of your November. I am loving all the Christmas stuff right now. Also, I love those scarfs. Happy Wednesday!
Andrea McAnally says
Ashby in that leopard vest made me smile so big!!!
Taylor says
I can so relate with stressing about the small stuff!! I hand all of the big things over to God but you better believe I’ll start stressing about what to wear to the Christmas party next week and how many pies I need to bake for Christmas. Hahaha..glad I’m not alone
Dana C says
I hear ya on stressing over the small things. I always try to find little ways to make my life easier to reduce this stress. A few years ago I found a life saver website: Minted. Ever since I’ve ordered all our Christmas cards from there because they address all your envelopes for free! And they have a ton of different designs to pick from for the addressing, not to mention a ton of awesome designs for the cards as well. The first year might take a little bit since you have to upload your addresses (but you can do it from an excel sheet), but every year after that you just select who you want to send it to and then a few days later in the mail you get a package with all your Christmas cards ready to go, just have to add a stamp! Thought you’d be interested to look into something like this. 🙂 Hope it can help you out! https://www.minted.com/
April Faulkner says
Love reading your blog every morning! I’ve even been forwarding your recipes to my mom and she asked for your slow cooker cook book for Christmas! just purchased it on amazon ! 🙂
Angela says
Shay, you’ve probably tagged this in a previous post and I missed it but where did you get that pretty red sweater you have in the family pic? Thank you!!!
Mix and Match Mama says
I bought it last fall from H&M!
Beth Valenta says
Accessories! I really think I have a problem, but I adore all things accessories and shoes. Love your pics!
kellie carrara says
Hi there! I learned about AC when you were doing a fundraiser for a friend’s son — and I LOVE my necklace! Thanks for this!
My daughter LOVES Disney, so our elves will be wearing (homemade) Disney ears one day and leaving her some new ears, too!
Leanne Gilchrist says
I’ve never done Elf on the Shelf, but the ideas from readers are fun! That photo of Ashby, dang it, she’s so CUTE! And so tiny! Your grandma is a doll. It’s so sweet and beautiful that you’re so close with your family. I’m using your cookie dough recipe this year, I may even make it when I get home today! Shay, my favorite thing about your blog is that you’re so generous with your ideas and your tips and the things you love! Have a great day, okay?
Mrs. B says
Can you please post a link for the sweater that your beautiful grandmother is wearing? Or maybe I missed it.
Mix and Match Mama says
I tried looking for it on Altar’d State’s website, but they aren’t showing it. Weird???
Tish Ferry says
Are you still using the tapered wand on the T3? Mine came with 3 options – tapered, a smaller straight wand, and a larger straight wand and I’m trying to figure out a favorite! I always love the way your curls look! 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
I use a variety! I either use the tapered, the 1″ barrel or the 1″ clip. I love them all!
CampDallas says
Oh, I totally relate to stressing over the little things!!! This time of year is packed full of fun…but it also adds to the ‘ol to-do list! On the bright side, my cards arrived yesterday and turned out great…now, to find time to address them! Have a wonderful day, Shay!
Jenn says
Shay! Minted lets you enter all of your addresses into their database and they will address your cards for FREE each year!! It is the BEST! You can even print out the address book if you need it for other stuff. Just go through your list and click on/add/subtract who you want to send to.
Amanda @ That Inspired Chick says
I’m going to want to feel that Night Pillow tomorrow so have it ready. 😉 And sweet Ashby…ahhhhh!!! What a DOLL!!! And I’ve got so much to catch up on now that we are home that I’m feeling all.the.stress. I need a vacation after my vacation. Ha!

Mother of 3 says
Just love those blanket scarves!! I also love that your grandmother went out and bought the sweater; sounds just like something my grandmother would have done. She really loved to shop and had quite the fashion sense.
Kacy Mah says
That pic of you on the couch with the kids is too sweet!
Stephanie Gentry says
Thanks for the Elf idea! I always need new things to do☺️ Also, I love #4- that was me last night with my 3 while watching Rudolph?
Dawn says
I’m embarrassed that I’ve already forgotten to move our elf twice!! Had to print up an excus that he was stuck,(lol). I started a new job and have to get up at 4:30, so apparently I’m not adjusting as well as I thought!
Alicia says
Shay, which do you like better my pillow or the night pillow? I value your opinion! I have a My Pillow but I’m not in love with it. Thanks!
Mix and Match Mama says
Then you should get a Night Pillow. They’re completely different. For me, I think it’s a toss up. I’ve been using the Night Pillow to see if it really is making a difference with my hair and skin…but I still love my My Pillow too. If you’re not happy with the My Pillow, then you’ll probably like this one because they are so different.
Michael says
Ok, for starters, that pic of you and the kids on the couch is beyond precious! Second, talk to me about the shoes you’re wearing in the pic with the buffalo plaid sweater… are they wedge sneakers, regular sneakers, where are they from? 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
They’re wedge sneakers from Nordstrom! They are so comfy!!
Kathleen says
This is so random but do you remember where you bought the rug that’s in your closet? I’m looking for something just like it for my living room! Thank you!
