Friday Favorites!

Hey there, first Friday of Spring!

I hope you guys all had the best week!  I’m super pumped because today, along with my other faves, I’m partnering with Nordstrom and ShopStyle and sharing one bold statement piece styled many different ways!  How fun is that sponsored post?!   Of course, I’m also linking up with my girls Erika, Narci and Andrea  as well!

Have a great weekend, friends!

Hmmmm…when Nordstrom asked me if I wanted to style one bold statement piece different ways, I went up there one day, looked around and saw this cute top right here…

…isn’t it fun?!  I bought it in the “Red Scarlet Moroccan Sea” but it comes in TEN DIFFERENT PATTERNS!  You can see all of them (there are so many pretty ones!!) HERE.

I liked it because it was bold and very Spring-y while also being long sleeve, so I can wear it when it’s still chilly outside.  I also loved the material because it is viscose which means you can wash and dry it.  #bam  I think it can go dressier (with a pencil skirt or black pants?!) or casual with shorts

I did a half-tuck with my VERY FAVORITE denim shorts and sandals (in seashell pink) along with my wooden earrings that I cannot stop wearing (because they’re light and go with everything!)…

The half-tuck is super cute because of hemline 🙂 .  You could also throw on…

my favorite military jacket and call it a day too 🙂 .

Another way this super cute top works?  With white jeans

I wore this exact outfit on Tuesday when I went to a meeting!

Okay, so the jeans are new…and I’m in love.  You know how FOR YEARS, I’ve been talking about my VERY FAVORITE BLACK JEANS?  Well, I bought a version in WHITE!!  They’re more thick (so you can’t see through them), the waist is a little higher (so when you sit, your undies don’t show) and they have unbelievable stretch.  They were so comfy that I wore them all day long!!

With my wedges, wooden earrings and pretty cuff.  BUT…it was a little chilly outside, so I topped it with…

my favorite denim jacket.  You know, this one

…that I wear all the time with that black maxi dress!

Fun top, white jeans, wedges, denim jacket, wooden earrings and cuff!  I was good to go!

One bold piece, many different ways 🙂 .  I love a challenge like that!  I also love Nordstrom!  With free shipping, free returns, free alterations and the new curbside pick up (you can order online and then your stuff is delivered to your car!!), Nordstrom makes shopping SO EASY!

Some of my favorite tops at Nordstrom are from brands like Hinge (this one!), Caslon, BP, Halogen, and Trouve.  Here are some other fun and bold pieces you could get and style many different ways…

Speaking of Nordstrom, remember when I posted some of my new vacation items that I would be taking on our trip?  Well, I took them and loved them!

Like my hat (I bought it last year and it’s still in such good shape!) and favorite sunglasses!

I’m not sure I got a good pic of these flip flops, but not only are they super cute, but they are so comfy too!!  They were perfect for around the pool!  So was this…

…we used our new beach/pool bag every day on the trip!  It was the perfect size and was easy to fold up and pack in our suitcase.

Speaking of our vacation, did you catch my first two recaps this week?

You can read PART ONE and…

…and PART TWO!  And pssssssst: you should probably go check out Wednesday’s post too!!!!

Did you see this on Instagram this week?  Sweet Ashby was so proud because she did her own hair for school!!  I’m telling you, there is no stopping this girl.  With one hand, she pulled it back and added her bow.  She was BEAMING!  Ashby started occupational therapy this week, and it went really well.  After the initial consultation, we had things to work on at home until it officially began, but now, she’ll be going once a week.  I’m so proud of this girl!

Okay, so Andrew and I have found ourselves in a bad place.

We started down this path of watching some documentaries…and you know what happens, you watch one and then it recommends another and before you know it, you’ve watched approximately 500 documentaries on horrible things that can happen to children and you’re contemplating locking yours inside and never letting them leave.  Ever.

Since Christmas break, we’ve watched Abducted in Plain Sight, The Keepers, Leaving Neverland and The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann.  You know you’ve watched too many when you turn to Game of Thrones for something light and uplifting to watch.  Hahahaha!  Have you guys watched these?  I would loooove to hear your thoughts.

One last favorite for the day…

Lemon Buttermilk Pie

…my Lemon Buttermilk Pie is exactly what you need to make this weekend.  It’s creamy, a little tart, a little sweet and a whole lot of yummy.  Your family will love it!

Happy Friday, friends!  I hope you all have the best weekend!  See you on Monday! xo

I watched the first episode of the Madeleine McCann documentary and then went around and double checked that all of the doors and windows were locked afterwards, even in my son’s room while he was sleeping. I realized at that point it was probably best that I stopped watching. 😂

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 5:26 am

It made me a crazy person!!! Hahaha!

  • Charmaine Ng | Architecture & Lifestyle Blog March 22, 2019 at 5:09 am

Nordstrom is the best place for basics! Love how you styled the red top, très cute! 🙂

First, you look so much better in clothes then then the way they style the models on Nordstroms site. I see you and think I’m buying that! Then you get to the site and question if it’s the same shirt! You look young and fresh they make the models look frumpy and boring!

Second, Abducted In Plain Sight is horrifying! Why they share their story is beyond me. It is so sad! Those parents did nothing to prevent it. Maybe they dont have good instincts but still.

  • Amanda @ Cupcake N Dreams March 22, 2019 at 6:10 am

Love how you styled that top! I wouldn’t have thought to wear it with the shorts! I stay away from all those documentaries and some TV shows (not GoT though lol), I already know they are too much for my mind. Go Ashby!! Happy Friday!!

  • Kelly Sites March 22, 2019 at 6:28 am

We can’t stop with the documentaries…we are currently watching (and heart broken) The Madeline one. You also need to watch The Staircase! Crazy town!!!!!!!

  • Erika Slaughter March 22, 2019 at 6:34 am

I’m refusing to watch that McCann documentary. I like to sleep at night and watching it would definitely mess with my sleep!

  • Jordan March 22, 2019 at 6:57 am

I highly recommend The Staircase as well!!

  • Alexis deZayas March 22, 2019 at 7:03 am

My OT heart is so excited for Ashby! Awesome job sweet girl!!

  • Rachel Embery March 22, 2019 at 7:13 am

Shay, I think you two would love Charlie Luxton’s Home by the Sea and Himes by the Med. we have he travel bug in common and his shows are super interesting and fun to watch. Will give you a lighter feel instead of the protect and lock up the kiddos feel! Also, The Worlds Most Extraordinary Homes. All are on Netflix!

  • Raquel Whatley March 22, 2019 at 7:13 am

I LOVE documentaries! The most recent one I watched was Free Solo. It was incredible!

  • Sheaffer March 22, 2019 at 7:15 am

That top is adorable. I love the color!!!

  • JodieKingsbury March 22, 2019 at 7:20 am

Love that top. I wish we had a Nordstrom here in Western Michigan!. I love trying on clothes and have a hard time buying clothes on the internet since I’m a bigger women.

    • Lindsay March 22, 2019 at 12:05 pm

We don’t have one within 2 hours of us so I have the same problem… they have free shipping both ways though, so I order a bunch of things, keep what works, and ship the rest back!

  • Tamara R. March 22, 2019 at 7:24 am

Girl, you have me buying ALL the things today! 😁. I am terrified every time I see the Madeline McCann preview but I am also a little obsessed with true crime documentaries. 😬. Did you watch the Staircase and Making a Murderer? Eeks!

  • Narci March 22, 2019 at 7:24 am

That top is darling! Darling!!! 😍😍😍

  • Hilary March 22, 2019 at 7:33 am

Watch The Staircase. It’s SO interesting and just a crazy story. Every episode I felt myself flip flopping on whether or not he did it. Even after watching all of the episodes I still can’t decide whether or not he’s guilty!

  • Amanda March 22, 2019 at 7:43 am

Are you still watching Game of Thrones? It really is the best show. I think that and Outlander are the two best tv shows. I listened to serial season one about Adnan Syed. HBO is doing a 4 episode in depth documentary on his case. Sunday will be the third episode. So good! I want to watch the one about Madeline McCann. Making a Murder is good too.

  • Becky Batten March 22, 2019 at 7:57 am

Exactly what you said ! I was having nightmares after watching those documentaries before bed. I said the same thing “ We better go back to Game of Thrones so I can sleep better tonight . “ Haha, not normal!

  • Kristin Bannister March 22, 2019 at 8:01 am

Ashby is so incredible. I am so happy for her & her sweet hair she did herself. Love that top- so cute. Girlfriend, abducted in plain sight we watched weeks ago and I still find myself shaking my head every time I think of it. 😳 Hope yall have a great weekend!

  • Beth Valenta March 22, 2019 at 8:06 am

I love the shirt! I just got it in the navy and so adorable. I also have a hat obsession so I got it for my trip to Vegas with my husband soon. Such cute options! Have a super weekend!! Ashby rocks!

  • Nicole March 22, 2019 at 8:10 am

abducted in plain site, omg whyyyyyy????? That was horrible. I also do not understand why they shared their story, those parents are idiots. We are currently binge watching Ozark. Man if I ever thought about laundering money for the mob I’m second guessing that now. lol We loved watching the Frye festival. What a joke!

    • Lisa March 22, 2019 at 12:57 pm

yes. i was so angry after watching abducted in plain site. That family was a mess! I do a lot of research about pedophiles/manipulation etc and these people were just off the spectrum in every way. i was so disappointed someone gave them a platform to share their story.

  • Jennifer March 22, 2019 at 8:15 am

I find the documentaries fascinating as well. I watched The Keepers and thought it was amazing how her brain totally blocked out the horrible things that happened to her in an attempt to protect her!

  • LeeAnn March 22, 2019 at 8:21 am

Can I just say…I love that pie plate!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 9:03 am

      Me too!!!

  • Genevieve March 22, 2019 at 8:30 am

shay, what size did you take in the Paige Jeans? The reviews say that they run small? Did you find that to be true as well?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 9:03 am

I bought them in 26 and found them very true to size!

  • Katie March 22, 2019 at 8:30 am

The other documentary you must watch is Dear Zachary. I mean, if you’re into horrible things happening to children. Haha. That sounds awful! You get what I mean…

  • Rachel March 22, 2019 at 8:32 am

The keepers was insanity!!! Couldn’t stop thinking about that one. Other good ones are Dawn Wall, Free Solo, Heal.

  • Alicia F March 22, 2019 at 8:35 am

Have you watched Making of a Murderer yet? That is a good one. Also, Free Solo was insane and nuts and beautifully done. Definitely worth watching, but it was beyond intense for my not-a-fan-of-heights self.

  • Staci Patyrak March 22, 2019 at 8:42 am

I LOVE documentaries and memoirs! I’m all about the music docs lately. What Happened Miss Simone?, Two Killings of Sam Cooke, Amy (about Amy Winehouse), Whitney, 5 foot 2 (about Lady Gaga). I also like all of the docs about religion/cults. Cults & Extreme Beliefs, Scientology & the Aftermath, Wild Wild Country…

  • Beverly March 22, 2019 at 8:44 am

Happy Friday! Love that top styled so many different ways! In the first picture are the shoes white? Thanks

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 9:03 am

      Nope, they’re the pink color 🙂 .

  • Laci March 22, 2019 at 8:52 am

Abducted in plain sight messed with my head for weeks. I had ALL the thoughts and ALL the anger towards her parents. Matter of fact, I am still not over it, lol. I have not watched another one since, but I am a sucker for documentaries!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 9:02 am

ALL THE ANGER!!! Yes, yes, YES!

  • NicoleinWI March 22, 2019 at 8:55 am

I keep recommending Abducted in Plain Sight to everyone I know because I just want more people to talk about how bananas the entire thing is!

I then also started listening to crime podcasts as well as I find it fascinating.

  • Alicia March 22, 2019 at 9:03 am

I watched the first episode of The Disappearance of Madeleine McCann and did not sleep that night… now I can’t stop watching!

  • Kelly Lane Nation March 22, 2019 at 9:13 am

I fell into a documentary hole too! After the R. Kelly doc, I refuse to watch Abducted in Plain Sight. It’s just too much to see how these parents have neglected to protect their children. However, the Staircase is a good one and Evil Genius is a shorter, good one too….with NO KIDS BEING HARMED!

  • Sandy Blitch March 22, 2019 at 9:23 am

I wish they would film more episodes of The Keepers, now that it has been proven that there was abuse going on! I would love to see some sort of follow-up from the people that produced that. I was angry for days while watching that!

  • Kristy March 22, 2019 at 9:28 am

We just watched all those documentaries and Dirty John so we started friends from college on Netflix and it’s hilarious!

  • Chelsey Fernandez March 22, 2019 at 9:54 am

I don’t think my jaw came up off the floor the entire time I watched Abducted in Plain Sight. SUCH a crazy story – it made me so angry, I think I even yelled at the tv lol I’m watching Leaving Neverland currently and WHOA! I love documentaries though. You and Andrew should check out The Inventor (and the book Bad Blood about the same story- I couldn’t put it down, I was fascinated). And The Staircase is another good one. Also, the Netflix and Hulu docs on Fyre Festival are interesting too!
And lastly, I’m making that pie ASAP – give me ALL the lemon flavored thing 🙂

  • Sara March 22, 2019 at 9:55 am

Abducted in Plain Sight = CRAZY!!!! I was screaming at the TV. Literally. We haven’t watched the Madeleine one. Obviously, that should be next on my list! And if you want something lighter…like no kidnapping/abuse…watch Fyre!

  • Darla Cain March 22, 2019 at 9:57 am

What size are you wearing with the statement top?

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 1:13 pm

  • B Griffin March 22, 2019 at 10:08 am

I liked the top so well I purchased it in the Red Scarlet Love Worn.

  • Kayla A Bruce March 22, 2019 at 10:13 am

OK- a little off topic, but I have questions about the dip nails. Haha. I’ve tried them and didn’t love them, so I’m wondering what your experience has been! Do you get the extensions or just do the natural length? How often do you get them redone? Are your nails weak after having dip done? What color do you paint your toes now that your nails are always white? #alpinesnowforever

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 1:13 pm

Okay…I was skeptical at first and had them removed after my third time…but then I missed them and had them putted back on. I do not have extensions. I have them clip my nails as short as possible and then dip them. It is so nice to just always have nice looking nails without having to mess with them myself.

  • Casey March 22, 2019 at 10:17 am

Hi! Weird question but I’d love to know what kind of skincare you use in your body…soap, scrubs, lotions. Your arms and legs look so good. I battle with dry skin and have the hardest time finding good body products.

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 1:12 pm

      Ohhhhh! Good post idea!!!

  • Lauren March 22, 2019 at 10:25 am

Abducted in Plain Sight made me want to throw things at the TV. And I just watched Free Solo. Was pretty interesting, won for Best Doc at the Oscars.

    • Mix and Match Mama March 22, 2019 at 1:11 pm

      Hahahaha! ME TOO!!!!

  • Genevieve March 22, 2019 at 11:03 am

What is the white cami pictured? Can you post a link to it?

  • Brea Withrow March 22, 2019 at 2:37 pm

    Three Identical Strangers.

  • Kimberley March 22, 2019 at 4:08 pm

Those were all good that you listed. If the tv is on, I’m streaming a documentary, ha! You should watch Evil Genius, The Ted Bundy Tapes, Oklahoma City, Gleason (N. O. Saints player), Fyre, The Innocent Man.

  • Lindsay March 22, 2019 at 5:00 pm

Just watched Abducted in Plain Sight today. It is BANANAS!!! Now I need to watch all the others recommended. My parents just watched The Dawn Wall and are raving about it. Love the top and jeans today. I also need to check out the wooden earrings. Have a great weekend!

  • kelli March 22, 2019 at 5:33 pm

The Keepers was so good! I had to stop listening and watching true crime documentaries and podcasts – I was starting to turn extremely paranoid!! Ha! Love Havaiianas – and love the red top you featured. Will be ordering! Thanks for all you do to brighten up your spot on the internet! 🙂

  • Lily March 22, 2019 at 6:14 pm

Last week I made you orange marmalade and it is amazing! We used it to make your Orange Marmalade Chicken Sandwiches and they were amazing. we had made this recipe before with store bought orange marmalade and it was by far the best with the home made! My whole family ate it! Thank you for these amazing recipes!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 23, 2019 at 7:03 am

Yay!!! Thank you so much, Lily!!

  • Pamela Kennedy March 22, 2019 at 9:29 pm

Abducted in Plain Sight. Ok…my dear Lord..where do I begin? I am a Christian. I grew up in church and went to Point Loma Nazarene University. After watching the documentary, I thought to myself, can I see my father on a drive with his good church buddy and “said church buddy” says, “I am really frustrated and need some relief…and then my dad saying, “well let me help you out there?” Are you kidding???! My dad would have been out the passenger side and running as far away from “said friend” as fast as he could! I mean, gross!!!! Then, the mom and dad decide that it’s ok for Uncle Looney Tunes to sleep in the bed with their daughter??!! I think that the three of them including the mother, need a lot of help. What a mess! That poor child. I am so happy to see that she has grown into a strong, independent woman despite her childhood.

  • Jenna Lathrop March 22, 2019 at 11:49 pm

We have been watching documentaries like crazy too..Free Solo and Dawn Wall are two that we cannot get enough of. Also, The Ted Bundy Tapes. And we also have been watching Adam Ruins Everything.

  • Amber March 23, 2019 at 8:22 am

I’ve gotten addicted to true crime podcasts!! I listen while I’m getting ready in the morning and on my drive to and from work. OBSESSED!!!

  • Tessa March 24, 2019 at 8:58 am

I went to the high school from the keepers. Totally freaked me out because the corruption was so hidden that none of us that went there (many years later) had any idea! So creepy!

    • Mix and Match Mama March 25, 2019 at 5:07 am

      Noooooo. That’s crazy!

  • Sonia March 25, 2019 at 8:15 am

Yeah – I agree with all the Abducted in Plain sight comments – although the hardest part to watch for me was the mothers interviews. It made my stomach turn, that despite everything this man did to their entire family – she was recounting it with smiles on her face and talking about how she felt so good being around him, and he made her feel pretty, and loved and excited….REALLLYYYY!!!!???!?!?! Almost like she had no remorse! It broke my heart.
