It’s What’s Up Wednesday !
Friends, IT’S ALMOST FALL!!!
I. Am. So. Ready.
Now that the kids are back in school and #alltheactivities have started, I’m ready for season to officially begin. Correct me if I’m wrong, but doesn’t the PSL at Starbucks come out today? Yesterday? Tomorrow? Sometime this week? I need one 🙂 . In the meantime, it’s What’s up Wednesday!
Now, if you’re new to WUW, on the last Wednesday of every month, Sheaffer and I host this little linky party where we share what’s going on with us right now. It’s a little food, a little family, a little what we’re wearing, a little what we’re doing, a little what we’re watching and a little bit of everything else all in one post.
Happy end of August, friends!
1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
My OBGYN posted this on FB this week and it made me chuckle. Right? Until we die.
Here’s what we’ve been eating so far this week…
We ate this on Monday night…
…but over their butternut squash ravioli instead of their cauliflower rice. Last night, I made…
…my Best Slow Cooker Brisket and then tonight and tomorrow night, I’m making new recipes. One of them involves the Instant Pot…so let’s all cross our fingers that I love it. Speaking of which, did you see my SLOW COOKER VS INSTANT POT post last week? The comment section is GOLD! You ladies know #allthethings about both!
2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
Awe!!! It’s almost Madeley’s GOTCHA DAY!! Look how tiny she was in this picture!!! I can’t believe it’s been three years. Part of me remembers it like it was yesterday and then part of me cannot even remember a Shull family without Madeley.
3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
I’m using a new foundation…
…so when we were on our Greek Cruise, we had a wine tour, and I met a really nice couple. The wife and I were chatting and she mentioned traveling a lot for work, so I asked her what she did and she told me she was high up at Chanel in the beauty department. I had #allthequestions then! I thought that was such a cool job, so I wanted to know what her number one favorite Chanel makeup product was and she said this CC cream. After we got home, I bought it and friends, I really love it! My favorite foundation (the one I always go back to even when I try new things) is the Bobbi Brown Foundation Stick. I’ve used it for years and it just always works. That being said, I really haven’t picked it up much this summer because I’ve been using the CC cream daily. I like it for many reasons. First, it’s a little thicker, so I can use as much or as little as I want. If I want a light application, I just use a little less, but if I want more coverage, it’s thick enough to do it. I also love that it has SPF in there as well. The color I bought is Beige 30 and I’m super happy!
4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
All of that #backtoschool stuff. This week, my big kids both started safety patrol which is an honor reserved only for 4th and 5th graders, so it was Smith’s first time to do it. On his first day, he wanted me to see him in action, so Andrew dropped off the big kids early for safety patrol and then I came back 10 minutes later to drop off Ashby…he was adorable in his bright green safety patrol vest. I’m trying to soak up all of this elementary school stuff before it’s gone. I know one day, he’ll be in high school and I’ll be all “remember when you were in safety patrol”, so I’m trying to really enjoy the moment. Speaking of which, my kids’ kindergarten teacher sent me this pic this week…
…look at Ebby Lee and Kensington on the school video announcements. We were both like “when did they get so big?! Weren’t they just in kinder?!”. Yes, yes, they were.
5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
I have a list that’s a mile long of things I’ve been putting off all summer to do once all of the kids are back in school. Time to handle that!
6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:
It’s beginning to look a lot like FALL around here!
Judge away, I’m about to start putting pumpkins out 😉 . They make us happy.
WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
Have you been following Erika’s blog this week? She’s been recapping her week at Walt Disney World!
Look at that picture…if Disney World says it’s time for fall then IT’S TIME FOR FALL!
Right?
Right!
Erika went to do some of their new “fall experiences” last week and had the best time! You can catch up on her recaps over on her blog! I’m already thinking about the next time we go to WDW…I want to go in October!
8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
Tomorrow is my AUGUST BOOK REVIEW so make sure you come back to read that! In the meantime, I’m still watching both Game of Thrones and Jane the Virgin…spoiler alert, they’re nothing alike 😉 .
9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
Right this minute? Michael Buble…because he never lets me down.
10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
On Friday, I showed you a few things I’m wearing right now that help me transition from summer to fall…
…like this cute fall-ish looking top and my peep toe booties! Plus…
…I love the color and cut of this top too!! Annnnnd…
…give me all the leopard 🙂 . Side note, those wedge booties from last year are so comfy! If you’re looking for something cute that you can walk quite a bit in or stand up a long time in, I think these would do the trick!
11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
It’s Labor Day weekend! We’re going to enjoy lots of time at home and around our town.
12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW:
I have a techy question for you! (This is super random!) When I plug my phone into my computer to move pics from my iPhone to my PC, it used to (for like a decade) pop up easily and let me see all of my pics and slide them over into folders, but now, when I plug my phone in, the pics don’t show. I’ll see like a white box with the word JPEG but not the image (so you can’t tell which pic is which and which one I want to save). What’s happening here? Does anyone know? I like legit would love help!
That’s it for What’s Up Wednesday! See you back here tomorrow for my AUGUST BOOK REVIEW!!

I’m ready for your book review! I always wait to pick out my next set of books till your review. Have you ever thought of starting a book club? Like you need one other thing on your plate! lol! YAY for FALL!!! Disney knows what they’re doing! 🙂

I’m totally not ready for fall. Love summer and really don’t want it to end. Love that salmon top too. It’s such a pretty color.
Lauren Lane | sunwashedlinen.com says
Love these fall outfits! I wasn’t ready to accept it was fall until this week, and now I’m ready for all the fall things and in need of some cute “fall-ish” outfits that can still be worn when it feels like summer 🙂
Narci says
Ah! What a CUTE pic of the girls on the announcements. I love that!
Rachel Kemper @ Growing Up Kemper says
Doesn’t the release of Pumpkin Spice Latte’s mean the unofficial start of fall?! 🙂 I think so! Really cute transitional pieces for fall. Leopard prints, fall oranges, and all the snakeskin mules please!! I’ve used the Chanel foundation before and I do really like how you can use so little and it goes such a long way. It lasts FOREVER!
Sarina says
Not that we should cheat on the PSL or anything – but Starbucks also came out with the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew and I’ve heard good things!
Not sure if this is helpful but if you open the folder with your pictures in it and right click, there should be different “View” options… hope that works!
Emily says
I’m not sure about the white boxes, but last week I was unable to load my photos into iPhoto on my computer. I ended up logging into iCloud with my Apple ID on my browser and downloading the pictures from there.
Erika Slaughter says
Please tell me someone reading today is gonna solve that computer issue. If they do, will you get their number and send it to me? ??? I have a techy problem myself.
Mindy Tierney says
I thought you had a Mac
laptop. If so, you can airdrop them.
Mix and Match Mama says
I do but I keep my files all neat and organized in folders on my PC. I’ve been doing it since 2006, so I hate to stop now.
jennibell says
I would love to know how you organize your photos. I have always just done by “month and year” but sometimes I cant remember what month/year is was :/ I know you’ve shown a pic before in a Day in the Life like, “I’m starting my day” and I saw there are lots and folders and such. . .I would love to have other ideas!
Sorry, no help with the downloading. . .I had the same problem this morning when I went to link up to WUW with y’all — I couldn’t get my pictures to transfer to the computer! My husband was late running out the door — he’s my go-to guy with this stuff. . .so, we’ll see if I get anything posted today. Loved catching up with you though!
Aileen says
I got a PSL yesterday so they are out! ?
Debby says
You need to use AirDrop between your Iphone and your Macbook. It is so easy! It has been a huge timesaver for me.
Mix and Match Mama says
I like to keep my files on my PC because they seem so much more organized (plus, I’ve been doing it that way for so long!)
Sarah Shaneyfelt says
I’m so excited about fall, too!!! The colors are my favorite!

I need to try those meatballs!!! And I think I’m the only girl who doesn’t like Pumpkin Spice anything….can we still be friends?!?! haha
Mix and Match Mama says
No. 😉
Angie Sharp says
I do not like PS anything either! bleh
Anissa says
I had the same issue and gave up really easily. I’m curious to learn the answer but I also downloaded google photos on my phone and I already have a gmail account. It’s the easiest thing and organizes the pictures so well!
Rebecca Jo says
Look at those big girls doing those announcements!!!!
OH MY GOSH – that every day till you die dinner meme – YESSS
Emily says
I have a mac and hate how iPhoto organizes my pictures! It’s the worst! I started organizing all of my pictures in google photos and am getting closer to how I organized them on a PC. You can have hundreds of different albums organized however you like. I really like that I can access them from my phone or any computer that I use (I travel non-stop for work). Uploading pictures from your iPhone is really easy – install the google photos app and open it whenever you want to transfer pictures. It will auto-transfer them for you and then all you have to do is organize them! It’s been a lifesaver for me!
Elspeth says
I am the same way, now that school is back in session, bring on all the fall!

My phone started giving me an error message when I tried to link it to my computer. I know have to select the photos on the phone and e-mail them to myself, open the email and save them to my computer; just to get them up on the blog. It’s such a pain! I do love technology when it works but most of the time I sweat at it under my breath. Good luck figuring it out!
Jill says
My phone moved my pictures to the icloud to save room on my phone. It took me forever to find them because like you, I downloaded them onto my computer to make it easier to store them. I just finally figured out that you have to go to the icloud on your computer and then you can download them to your PC into the happy organized folders you have waiting! Good luck!
Jenn says
So I had the same problem and last week I finally buckled down and made the time to fix it. iPhones, with one the more recent updates, along with Windows 10, have switched to HEIC files (high efficiency image) which need a new driver to convert on to your computer. When you plug it in, if Windows photos pops up, there is an option that says “download Codecs at Microsoft Store”. There are also programs you can buy that will automatically do it as you transfer. Just google “how to open/convert HEIC files on windows” and figure out which works for your computer. There’s a really good article from “how to geek.com” that will walk you thru it! Mine was just the Codecs issue but for my mom we had to buy a $9.95 program to do it automatically. I am not techie but I’m like you and want to keep up with my organization system!
Jenn says
The howtogeek article pops up when you google what I typed in!
Courtney says
I’m going to have to try that CC cream!! Are you going to do an updated makeup routine soon? Those are some of my favorite posts. 🙂
Mix and Match Mama says
Yes, ma’am!!! xo
Angie G says
I’m a PC pics girl, too. It is SO much easier than the MAC system of folders. I keep telling myself I’m going to switch, but I keep hanging on to my PC, external hard drive, yellow folder icon with all my organized by year then month folders.
Here’s what I have noticed…my IG and other photos that “double-save” if you will, (also I use Diptic sometimes and it asks “do you want to save 2 images”, and I can never figure out what the 2nd one is). save like a blank .jpg when looking at them on my computer from the iPhone folders. When I compare what I see in photos on my phone, all of them are there. So, I copy what shows up as an actual pic in my phone folders to my external drive folders, open up external drive to make sure the pics are all there, then go back and delete what appears to be all “leftovers” in the iPhone folder.
There may be someone with another super techy answer about this, but this has been my experience.
Laura B says
I am not sure I completely understood the computer issue but I did send you a DM on Instagram with what I though was the problem and how to fix it. Hopefully it helps!
Chrissy says
We’ve been to Disney twice now during the fall and we love it! The weather in October is great and Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween party is fantastic (Hocus Pocus show is a must!). Next time we go I want to do December and see their Christmas decor! As for the techy thing, my hubby would say, have your rebooted and done all the updates? Usually that does the trick for anything going awry for me.
Karleigh Johnson says
Hi Shay,
I am by no means a tech expert, but do you think your PC is getting too full? How big is your hard drive? My only guess would be that it’s running out of room, therefore only allowing you to save certain versions of the photos…again, just a guess coming from someone who also drinks PSLs before September 1st! My husband bought me a huge external hard drive that I put all of my pictures on, you know, for when and if I ever go back and print them 😉
Susan says
Are you talking about when you’re in the folder and the pictures aren’t showing what they are? If so you might just need to change your view. If you right click you should get a popup for view and then change it to large or extra large icons. View should also be a menu item at the top too. Hope that helps.
Julie says
Hi Shay! Have you read ‘You’ve Been Volunteered?” yet? It is hilarious and the sequel to Class Mom. Anyway, she is the head of safety patrol so if you haven’t read it, you will love her hilarious stories about what goes wrong with the parents that volunteer, etc. So funny! We don’t have safety patrol at our school (suburb outside Boston) so it’s cool to me that they truly exist. Cannot wait for your book review. And also can’t wait for your fall house tour-one of my favorite posts every year. Happy pumpkin shopping 🙂
Allena says
It was only 85 yesterday in Austin (the humidity was awful though) and this morning it was just the tiniest bit crisp, and I was in heaven! We ate dinner outside and played until bedtime. I’ve been listening to the Hamilton soundtrack on repeat for about 3 months – talk about something never letting you down!
AmandaG says
I agree with a previous commenter that your picture issue may be solved by changing the View. Right Click–>View–>Large Icons. It might be more helpful to have a picture if that doesn’t solve it. Good luck!
Kaytlin says
It’s me…the nerdy Apple mama! ? I think I have a solution to your question about your pics. This is going to be a long comment, so I’m sorry in advance! I know you’re saying you want it on PC, but since you also have a Mac, my favorite way to move my pics from my iPhone is NOT through iPhoto, but rather through Image Capture on Mac because it just moves the picture files straight to where I want it, so you can put it on a USB thumb drive (that has enough space, obviously) to swap over to your PC as thumb drives translate between Macs and PCs better than external hard drives. Image Capture is an application that is already on your Mac, so nothing to download.
Go to Finder/Applications/Image Capture. Unlock your iPhone, then plug it into your Mac. The Image Capture window should show that your phone is connected under the “Device” menu on the left side, and all your pics & videos should pop up in that window. Then, on the lower left side, you should see some additional menu information; if not, click the little triangle in the box in the most lower left corner until you see the following options: “Connecting this camera opens:” then choose what you want (choose Image Capture if this process works nicely for you, but if you don’t know yet, leave it as “no application”); “Delete after import” is what you can check if you want to clear your phone after the pics are moved to your computer or external drive, but if you want to keep the pics on your phone until you get your bearings on this process, leave this box unchecked.
In the lower center of the window, choose where you want your pics to go under the menu for “Import to”. Here, choose “other,” and then find your USB drive from the menu window that pops up, then click “new folder” in the lower left corner to create a folder and name it whatever makes sense (date, event, etc.).
Finally, you can choose to “Import All” which will move all the pics from your phone on your computer to the designated place, or you can click individual pics by holding down the “Command” button and clicking on all the files you want to move, then click “Import”. Once complete, you can eject your USB from the Finder menu, then move the thumb drive files over to your PC.
Whew! Hope that helps! If this process doesn’t work for you or is too cumbersome, the other thought is that you may need to update the operating system software on your PC so that it can recognize your iPhone as the new iOS on your phone isn’t being recognized. I don’t PC anymore, so I will not be much help on the PC side. ?
Ashley says
I too organize my pictures like you! Folder by year, then within that by month and then by events within the month. Someone already mentioned it but google photos is the way to go. If you don’t have a google account just create one and download the google photos app to your phone. It automatically backs up all photos from your phone in to google photos and so they’re also on the cloud as another backup. Then, you can log in to google photos on your computer and download your pictures from there. Way easier than plugging in your phone every time you want to save pictures. Someone at the AT&T store taught me this awhile back and I love it!
Amanda Wilsom says
We head back to school after the long weekend so it’s still summer for us! Heading out camping with 9 kids wish us luck!
Sandy says
Go into your “iCloud” iCloud.com. All of your photos are stored there, no need to plug your phone in. You can pick and choose what you want to down load. Super easy. Seriously didn’t know they were there till less than a year ago. Has made downloading pictures so easy!?
Katie M Stuen says
Shay! I feel your pain. I’v been uploading pics from my PC since 2006. All neat and organized by year and month. Out of nowhere, I was no longer being able to upload from my iphone to PC. My husband is a computer wizard and he couldn’t even help me. I ended up creating a Shutterfly account and I transferred all my old stuff to Shutterfly. Then I downloaded the Shutterfly app and it’s really easy to create a folder and organize photos right from my phone. It also makes it much easier when I’m looking for an oldie to upload to Instagram or to show a relative/ friend old pictures.
Happy Pumpkin Season 🙂
Kim S says
You have to read the new Class Mom book “You’ve been Volunteered” by Laurie Gelman. There is a lot of Safety Patrol drama in it!
Nicole Silva says
I just had this same talk with my parents and they had a come to Jesus moment that it’s time to kick the PC to the curb. I recommend getting an external hard drive and save all of those pictures to it. iPhones and PCs are no longer going to be friends and we all need to face the music!
Louise says
Don’t know what’s up with your computer, but I do have a recommendation. I use the iexpand drive to transfer photos to my computer. I plug the tiny drive into my phone and it sucks them off onto the drive. I then put the drive into my computer and I transfer them onto the computer. I find it much easier, and there is the added bonus of having a quick back up of every photo on my phone on a drive. I’ve done it this way for years. It recently came in handy when my computer crashed and I had another back up of photos from my phone.
Terry says
I just bought the leopard top in your recommendation. Love it! Question, is the Chanel product a foundation or a sunscreen? Their product labeling is confusing.
Mix and Match Mama says
It’s a CC cream…so thicker than a tinted moisturizer that includes SPF. I think it’s just like a foundation!
Kim C says
Do it!! Put out ALL. THE. PUMPKINS! ?? It is the best time of year ?
Truer words have never been spoke than those about figuring out what to make (or plan a month in advance) for dinner.
And it’s nice to know that I’m not the only one that makes a list of things more suitable to do when the kids are at school all day. First year I’ve been able to take advantage of that! ?♥️
Stefany says
I thought of you today, when I got an email from Alex and Ani (bracelets), they came out with a Pumpkin Spice Latte bracelet. ?
I have the same issue with my computer, hoping some of these suggestions work.
Have a great rest of your week!!!

Two things! I tried the Pumpkin Cream cold Brew today from Starbucks and it’s AMAZING!!!! It was my first time trying cold brew, so I didn’t know what to expect. It’s so so so so good!!
Second, fall at WDW is the best!! We’ve gone in September the last three years. They do such an amazing job making you feel all the fall vibes. We aren’t going this year and I’m going through major withdrawals.

I have been using Chanel CC cream for years and love it! Here’s a tip…mix it with a dot of the Chanel ale Blanc Light Creator Brightening Makeup Base for a little added glow. Did the woman you met have any other great Chanel makeup tips?
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve never heard of that! I’m going to look it up now! And she told me a lot about the products while we chatted and not really technique. She was really sweet and I do love the CC cream!

Ran into the same problem with moving pictures from
phone to computer. Couldn’t figure out what was up! I literally unplugged and switched to the opposite outlet (most computer have two I assume)… and the images popped up! I have no idea if that helps you, but my issue was that simple to resolve!

Hi Shay!
I highly recommend Google Photos. My phone automatically send my photos to Google Photos and then you can search by anything to find a picture you are looking for – including by people’s faces!

No judgment here… decorating for Fall has been on my calendar for over a month (I’m decorating on Friday). ? And I’m so excited to try the pumpkin cream cold brew – I’ve heard many people say it’s even better than their traditional PSL. ??

I didn’t realize you haven’t been to WDW in the fall…you must go! As much as you love fall (as do I), you will just LOVE it! Both times we’ve visited in October and one time the weather was super cool, another blazing hot, but with Disney’s magic, everything felt so “fallish” and we just love it! We are going in December for the first time ever and can hardly wait to see the Christmas decorations. After that I’m going to try January…but you can bet another fall trip is definitely on the wish list!
UGH = had the same iPhone problem and am greatly appreciative of the tips above. Sorry you’ve had the same trouble!
Mix and Match Mama says
I’ve been in November and December but not October…I need to see the pumpkins 🙂 .

I use air drop to transfer pictures

I had trouble with mine recently also. It used to just pop up when I would plug in my phone or camera, but now I have to go to my files and under “This PC”, my IPhone shows up and then I have to click the “Internal Storage”, then “DCIM” and then I can get to all my pictures. I’m not sure if that’s what you are already doing, but that is something that has changed on my PC and I’m not sure why?!?
