New Beauty Finds for Fall!

Ohhhhh!  I’m so happy it’s Thursday!

I’ve been having one of those weeks where it feels like I’m playing whack-a-mole.  Every time, I “whack” down a problem, one more pops up.  Anyone else feel that way some days?  Today, we get to put all of our “moles” aside for a minute and focus on something frivolous and fun…makeup and beauty 🙂 .  When Nordstrom reached out and asked me if I wanted to do a sponsored post about my updated fall beauty, I was like OF COURSE because that my friends, is fun 🙂 .

Remember how this time last year, Erika and I went and got our fall makeup routine “freshened up” when we took the girls to NYC

…I was a big, big fan of so many of those products and used them all year long.  For me, it always makes such a difference when I go in the store and ask the beauty experts for help, so this time, a few weeks ago, I went to Nordstrom and told the sweet lady exactly what I loved last year (and why) and asked her if there was anything new I might like to compliment it.  I also told her I wanted to specifically look at a few pieces I have heard other influencers talk about: Laura Mercier Caviar Sticks (I had three at home but didn’t think I was using them correctly), the Clinique Pop Matte Lip Color and the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment.

The first thing she told me was that since I love Bobbi Brown products so much (and I really do!), I would probably also love Laura Mercier too!  So, she said we should probably tackle those Caviar Sticks I already had at home…

…I had Rosegold (creamy and not matte), Au Natural (matte and light cream colored) and Amethyst (just a little darker and also not matte).  Want to know what she told me?  She told me to use them as eye shadow primer!  How brilliant is that?!  For a normal day look, I can apply the Au Natural all over my lid and then add my eye shadow on top.  The caviar stick will make the eye shadow adhere better and not come off throughout the day or crease.  I loved that trick!!  If I wanted a little more oomph, I could use Rosegold as my base or for a smokier eye, the Amethyst.  She then asked me if I’d seen the latest Urban Decay Naked Eye Shadow Palette and I had not, so she showed me and it was…

…love at first sight!  Look at all the lovely neutrals!!  I loved how in this palette, the more neutral colors have larger spots at the ends because let’s be real, we use those the most.  There’s a reason why Urban Decay has a cult following with their eye shadows, they go on so smoothly and stay all day.

She asked me what I used to “set” my makeup and I told her that I love Charlotte Tilbury Airbrushed Setting Powder.  She said this one is really popular too, but I’m still sticking with my Airbrushed Setting Powder as it’s not letting me down!  She also told me that since I love the Caviar Sticks so much that I should try…

this set that includes two of the mini Caviar Sticks that I already had plus full sizes of their mascara and eye liner.  Have any of you used their mascara and/or eye liner before?  I’m so partial to this that I can’t imagine changing, but it’s also fun to try new things when I run out of the old too.  I’d love to know if you’ve tried it!

After we got my eyes all fixed up, we moved on to lips!  Nothing says “change in season” to me more than changing out my lip color.  She asked me what lip pencils I use this time of year and I said…

Ballet Pink and Rose (both suggested to me in last year’s makeover), so she gave me suggestions that would compliment both…

…I loved this Laura Mercier in Nude (with that rosegold gloss at the end) and then I was really impressed with both matte lipsticks she pulled out!  The Clinique Pop Matte Lip Color in Cute Pop and the NARS Powermatte Lip Pigment in Walk this Way are both matte but they don’t dry me out.  I specifically asked her to pull out these lipsticks, but she pulled out which colors she liked best for fall and I couldn’t disagree.  The best part?  They both last all day with just a touch up of gloss!  I had that NARS gloss in Fever Beat already at home and thought they complimented each other nicely!

Who doesn’t love a fun new lipstick for fall?!

I told you guys a few weeks ago that I’ve fallen madly in love with…

this CC cream.  It’s still my fave.  I love how I can apply as much or as little as I want without it being too heavy.  When I told the beauty expert at Nordstrom that I was using this, she suggested I pair it with…

this Bobbi Brown Primer Plus Radiance which I already had at home!  #score

Every morning, after I moisturize, I apply the primer first (it has just the nicest bit of something that makes you all dewy/glowy) and then the CC cream.  Easy as that.

After that, I top my face with…

…my beloved NARS bronzer in Laguna.  Clearly, it’s my fave 🙂 .

So, a great new eye shadow palette, a great reason to pull out my Caviar sticks, some fun fall lip colors and a primer to go under my favorite CC cream?  Sounds like a successful stop at the Nordstrom Beauty Counter to me!  I love to shop at home and take advantage of Nordstrom’s free shipping and returns, but meeting face to face with their experts in each department is just another reason why I shop there.  They always steer me in the right direction and never let me down.

Okay, I’m off now!  We have a full day and then something super fun to do tonight.  One of Kensington’s birthday gifts was an “experience”, so Andrew, my parents and I are going to take her to do that this evening.  In the meantime, I hope YOU all have the best Thursday!  See you guys tomorrow! xo

I have to ask…how many times do you wash your hands while putting your skincare products and makeup on? I feel like I’m constantly washing my hands after everything I apply! Wondering if everyone else does it too!

    • Reply Mix and Match Mama September 19, 2019 at 7:20 am

Hahaha! That made me laugh because I really haven’t thought about it, but it’s so true! Maybe like three times?

Hey Shay, I was at Trader Joe’s yesterday. Bought a lot of what you posted for FALL items. One I think you missed that is wonderful is the Cinnamon Bun spread. I put it on the whole grain pumpkin bread slices you mentioned and it’s amazing. I also bought the Apple Cider spread but haven’t tried it yet. Buy the Cinnamon Bun spread, it’s amazing !!

    • Reply Mix and Match Mama September 19, 2019 at 8:29 am

Is it near the jams??? How did I miss that???

      • Reply Taylor September 19, 2019 at 1:03 pm

Yes! I actually just bought that today. It was sitting right next to the apple cider jam.

Love the Nars Powermatte pigments – I have American Woman and Somebody to Love. Now I want to try Walk this Way and that gloss! I also love those caviar eye sticks. The Nars version of those cream shadow sticks is also really good. I wear Oaxaca almost daily. Great update for fall!

Can you do a Fall skincare routine post or is your skincare routine the same as your Summer list?? Thx!

Have you tried the It Cosmetics x Drybar Lash Blowout mascara yet!? I LOVE it!! The tube/packaging is super cute too 🙂

What? NO! I’m looking that up right now!!

    • Reply Stefany September 19, 2019 at 3:02 pm

That new mascara by IT cosmetics x Dry Bar. Is amazing…my new favorite. I don’t even need a primer with it…long, full lashes!!! I am a mascara snob, ha ha. If I could only wear one thing it would be mascara. 😄

The Laura mercier powder is great to set and brighten your under eyes!! I just use a beauty blender and then brush away the excess with a big fluffy brush!

  • Reply Audrey September 19, 2019 at 8:35 am

What shade did you get in the CC cream? Thank you!!

I have been eying that Urban Decay pallet since the cruise that we went on this summer through Mix and Match Travel.

Beauty Brands is having a 10.98 Lash Bash Sale and I have stocked up on some pretty awesome mascaras! In fact I ordered two and a primer, then they sent me a $10 off and I ordered two more and another primer!

  • Reply Anna September 19, 2019 at 8:58 am

I have short Asian lashes and the best mascaras I’ve found that will hold the curl is Lancôme hypnose drama waterproof for my top lashes and the definicils waterproof mascara for bottom. Too faced better than sex waterproof is good as well but it smudges towards the end of the day for me. I live on an island so I don’t think that helps.

What color in the Chanel CC cream do you wear?

  • Reply Kay September 19, 2019 at 9:02 am

Shay – could you do a post on how you do your hair when it’s pulled up in a high pony tail? It’s always cute, but I can’t ever get my mid-length hair to look like that. I just love your blog – look forward to reading it every morning!

Hi Shay, You’ve posted your favorite face tanner pads numerous times, but I didn’t think I’d ever use it. Now, with a pre-cancer spot on my nose, it’s past time! Please remind me of the product’s name and any tricks you use to make it look more natural. I love all your posts. In fact. I started back at post #1 reading the first years that I missed. It has been like a fast time travel with your family. (My husband just can’t understand why I’ve done this. Ha, ha!) Last night I recorded a House Hunters that was filmed in McKinney. HGTV is planning on filming more in your town. I’m excited to watch the one I recorded and get a different glimpse inside your town.

    • Reply Mix and Match Mama September 19, 2019 at 1:28 pm

I just used one last night!! They’re my absolute favorite! Dr. Dennis Gross. The tanning face wipes!! Annnnnd I need to watch that episode!!

  • Reply Amy Stone September 19, 2019 at 10:34 am

I know you love your MAC mascara; that was also my go to for years! I’ve switched over to Thrive Causmetics Liquid Lash Extensions Mascara and will never go back. It’s amazing! So easy to apply and it adds a tone of length and volume. Not a Nordstrom product but totally worth it! When washing it off, you gently squeeze your eyelashes and it just flakes off. I like that because it doesn’t ever leave any black film under my eyes. The one downside is it definitely isn’t waterproof.

  • Reply Jenny September 19, 2019 at 10:45 am

It is the most wonderful Mascara I have ever tried. My new Fave for sure!!

  • Reply September 19, 2019 at 12:26 pm

I love all this! Can’t wait to try some new products! I really want to try the Chanel CC cream!

Oh, I LOVE Bobbi Brown and jjust recently started using their foundation. And, I really like Laura Mercier as well. And, I always enjoy hearing/reading about other women’s favorite makeup items. Happy weekend!

  • Reply Emily September 20, 2019 at 7:04 am

I use the LM powder liner. It is great and stays put. I apply it wet with a flat thin brush. If you are looking for a really tight water line it’s great, but doubt you need to add it to your makeup if you have others you like. I’m just really bad at eye liner.

  • Reply Nicci September 20, 2019 at 9:44 am

I have the Laura Mercier caviar stick in moonlight, which is a light champagne-gold color and is comparable to the rose gold one you have (I wanted to buy both, but thought they’d be too similar haha). I like to put it on the center of my eyelid and blend it in. It opens your whole eye up and works as a really pretty pop of brightness against the rest of my more neutral shadows. There are also some tutorials on her website for different techniques if you wanted a visual–NigNf8A

It always makes me so happy to hear when people give a gift of “time.” My kiddos are 18 and 16 and I have given them a gift of time every birthday and Christmas for about the past decade. They LOVE it and expect it – so it makes it fun for me to trick it up a little. This fall – I gave my daughter Jonas Brothers tickets. It was the first time she has been given two tickets and a friend comes along. Usually it is for the two of us to do on our own…It was fun and surprising for her – that I allowed a friend to accompany her instead of me! HAHAHA 🙂 Umm, I am pretty sure her friend would sing along and enjoy those boys more than I would. Gifts of time are THE BEST!

I love the Bobbi Brown shadow sticks for eye shadow. I keep things real simple haha so I just do a couple of swipes depending on day or night makeup and it lasts ALL day. You could also use as a primer. My fav. shades are Golden Pink (has some shimmer), Goldstone (shimmer) and vanilla for primer

It’s a “dip” from the salon. I think it looks very much like OPI Lincoln Park at Midnight though!
