Favorite Makeup (and a winner!)

It’s the morning after Halloween.  This should totally be a holiday.

If I were President, Halloween and July 4th would always fall on a Friday. #justsayin #voteforme

Okay, so last week, Nordstrom helped me sponsor my Birthday Giveaway and today…I have a winner!

Drumroll please…

(insert that scene from Christmas vacation…because it makes me laugh every single time)

Yay!  Congratulations Kacy!!  You have won the $500 Nordstrom gift card!  I emailed you this morning, so all you have to do is email me back to claim your prize.  Woohoo!

Thank you Nordstrom for making this stuff possible…we big puffy heart you.  Speaking of which, I’ve had some comments lately about my favorite makeup products for fall/winter (because I think most of us tweak our routine this time of year, right?), so I thought I’d show you my favorite makeup from Nordstrom today.  I pulled my stuff straight from my bathroom drawer to photograph.  This is the stuff I love to wear this time of year…

Favorite Beauty Products

Okay, for my face…

…my products stay the same year around except instead of using a tinted moisturizer, I use a light foundation.  I’m still using my  Clinique’s City Block Sheer SPF  every single day for both sun protection as a primer and then I use my beauty blender and follow it with my favorite foundation, Nars All Day Luminous Foundation (in Santa Fe) plus a little drop of Nars Illuminator in Orgasm mixed in for a little color and glow (I was using the Hot Sand color but switched to the Orgasm color for fall/winter because it has a little more oomph which my pale skin needs).  For a concealer, I use Tinted Eye Brightener in Bisque.

My favorite bronzer is this Bali Brown Illuminating Bronzer and I use the cult favorite Nars Blush in Orgasm because it is like the absolute perfect color (read the reviews, people are obsessed with this one!).

Probably the most life changing, absolute favorite product of mine is Urban Decay’s Eye Primer.  Your eye makeup will not move if you put this on your lids beforehand.  I live in Texas where the heat and humidity can slide eye makeup right off…but with this stuff, it stays on all.day.long.  I love this Long Wear Cream Shadow Stick in Golden Pink for my eye shadow, Gel Eye Liner in Chocolate Truffle and my favorite mascara is MAC’s Haute & Naughty in black.

For my brows, I love Brow Shaper in Blonde and Brow Pencil in Blonde.

And my favorite fall lip includes these three: Nars Lip Pencil in RikugienPlum Rose Lipstick and Lip Gloss in Risky Business.

And I’ve probably said this on my blog 4,892,376 times but the only two scents I wear are…

Burberry Brit in fall/winter and Flowerbomb in spring/summer.  I love them both so much.

So, that’s what I’m using now.  I know it’s only November 1, but I’m already crossing gifts off of my Christmas list and some of my favorite gifts to give are beauty gift sets.  I love to receive them too (hint, hint) 😉 .  Here are some that are out right now…

So thank you Nordstrom for my birthday giveaway and happy November 1st to all of you!

Don’t forget, if you’re cooking your way through Eats, the November chapter is full of recipes to make your Thanksgiving month delicious and simple too.

This post came in good time. The other day I was wanting to try some new beauty products and went on an old post to find what you use. Thanks so much for the update! I do need something that’s going to liven up this pale skin for the winter! XO

  • Erika Slaughter November 1, 2016 at 5:05 am

You have my vote! 😉 When do you start decorating for Christmas?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 5:20 am

      Next Friday :)>.

  • Jess November 1, 2016 at 5:19 am

Do you change your hair products in the winter?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 5:19 am

      I do not!

  • Kristina November 1, 2016 at 5:47 am

Have you tried IT Cosmetics CC Cream? I used to use Cliniques sunscreen for years, but this CC cream has SPF 50, anti aging (because which girl doesnt like that) and full coverage. I’ve converted and thats all I use. The benefits are amazing!

  • Jordan November 1, 2016 at 5:50 am

Have you ever tried Mac’s eyeshadow primer? It’s my absolute favorite! I love it even more than UD’s!

  • Natalie November 1, 2016 at 5:58 am

Beautiful as always! I can’t get my eyeliner to stay in my waterline. It disappears after a little while! I use the Lancôme Le Stylo Waterproof. Do you wear yours in your waterline? Any tips to keep it from disappearing? Thanks so very much!!! ????

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 6:07 am

It’s that eye primer! Seriously, your eye makeup will not budge!

      • Whitney Thompson November 1, 2016 at 8:44 am

The MAC Paint Pot in Painterly is also amazing as an eyeshadow base! It’s a must have 🙂

  • Sheaffer November 1, 2016 at 6:05 am

Loved this post! I’m going to have to try that Risky Business gloss! Looks so pretty!

  • Narci November 1, 2016 at 6:14 am

Oh fun!! Beauty product posts are my favorite!! Off to add some of these to my list! You always have the best recommendations!!

  • Megan November 1, 2016 at 6:43 am

I’m shocked to see we have a lot of the same favorites. And my apologies to teachers everywhere this morning. #shayforpresident

  • Lizzie @ This Happy Life November 1, 2016 at 6:54 am

I love urban decay’s eye primer! And I need to try that Nars foundation, thanks for all the recommendations!

  • Kristy November 1, 2016 at 7:13 am

Amen to m Cement 1st being a holiday. As a teacher today is going to be one longggggggg day! ????

  • Sarah November 1, 2016 at 7:57 am

I saw a few reviews on the NARS Blush Orgasm saying it has a shimmer or almost glitterly look. Is that right??

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 11:51 am

The Super Orgasm blush has shimmer, the regular old Orgasm does not.

  • Jenna November 1, 2016 at 8:02 am

I am going to have to try the gel eyeliner and the illuminator. I love the Urban Decay primer. That is a must for every day. Have a great day!

  • Katie November 1, 2016 at 8:03 am

My Burberry Brit just came in the mail last week and I’m so excited! Do you just spray it and walk through or do you use some on your neck and wrists? I don’t want the scent to be overbearing!

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 11:51 am

I spray it on every day. I love it so much!!

  • Jess Deisher November 1, 2016 at 8:30 am

I ate SO much candy yesterday. Oh well.

I also love when you post your makeup routines because I’m clueless when it comes to makeup and you seem to have the simple natural makeup figured out. So thanks for the tips!

  • Angela Ellingson November 1, 2016 at 8:53 am

Happy November! Michael Bublé’s Christmas album is on, kids are dancing around the living room, I’m snuggling my baby… Life is good! I would totally vote for you for president, maybe I’ll write you in. And I have several of these products thanks to you! Love the inside scoop. You always look stunning!

  • Jenny November 1, 2016 at 9:04 am

I love the Urban Decay eye primer! Love the rest of the tips too. Now that my daughter is wearing makeup, I’m constantly looking for things for her and myself.

  • Chrissy November 1, 2016 at 9:51 am

Does your Nars blush in Orgasm have sparkles in it? I got it last year and only wore it twice because each time someone mentioned the glitter on my face! Lol!

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 11:50 am

Super Orgasm has sparkles, but regular Orgasm does not ;).

  • Kara B. November 1, 2016 at 10:08 am

Yay Christmas!!! I too have Michael Bublé’s Christmas album at the top of my list, but Brett Eldredge dropped a Christmas album last week, and I CANT STOP LISTENING! It’s not country AT ALL, and it just brings so much joy 🙂 try it out!

  • Courtney November 1, 2016 at 10:10 am

Thanks for sharing your favorite scents, adding those to my Christmas list now!

  • Jenny November 1, 2016 at 10:14 am

Can you please do a skincare routine product post just like this one soon?!?! You’re skin is so pretty! Thanks!

  • Jenny November 1, 2016 at 10:37 am

can you please do the exact same post with your day/night skincare routine and products?! Thanks!

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 11:50 am

      • Meg November 2, 2016 at 10:33 am

Yes, I would love to see that too 🙂

  • Jordan November 1, 2016 at 10:48 am

Your nails always look perfect. What top coat do you use?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 1, 2016 at 11:50 am

      Essie! I love it!

      • Mel November 1, 2016 at 2:07 pm

You like the Essie topcoat better than Seche Vite?!?!

        • Mix and Match Mama November 2, 2016 at 4:29 am

          Their new gel-like one, yes.

  • Erica Marchelle November 1, 2016 at 11:11 am

I love NARS blushes! I always try and buy the holiday palettes so I have multiple shades to choose from every year. I also read a comment about someone recommending the IT Cosmetics CC+ Illuminator and I have to second their recommendation. It is life changing. I’ve never loved a BB or CC cream the way I do this one. You must try it! It makes my skin look flawless.

  • Lindsay @ Lindsay's Sweet World November 1, 2016 at 11:35 am

Amen about the holidays, girlfriend! Our kids were so hopped up on sugar and so exhausted last night I can’t imagine how their teachers must feel today!! EEKS. At least they had the courtesy to do away with homework last night!

  • Sam November 1, 2016 at 11:58 am

You have such flawless, glowing skin! It always looks so healthy! Any tips to achieve that? Or do you have favorite skin care products as well?

    Thanks for another awesome post!

  • Michelle November 1, 2016 at 12:18 pm

Happy Halloween Hangover Day! Such a fun evening cruising the streets of downtown Charleston with a little Huntress, and a skateboarder. But this morning was rough for me. The kids were up early and ready to go….I think because I let them take their candy to their rooms 😉 I love this day, and as excited as I am for Christmas carols to start, I always am a little sad it is over. But lots to loo forward to this month and next. Can’t wait for your Christmas decor posts!!!

  • Megan Butler November 1, 2016 at 1:31 pm

Every time you post that blush, I think “I need to try that.” Seriously! Maybe I’ll add it to my Christmas list!!

  • Francie November 1, 2016 at 1:40 pm

I absolutely love your beauty post! Burberry Brit just happened to be one of my favs also! http://www.supersimpleways.com

  • Mel November 1, 2016 at 2:08 pm

What soap do you use to clean your beauty blender? How often do you clean it?

    • Mix and Match Mama November 2, 2016 at 4:29 am

I just use my kids’ shampoo to clean it. About once a week.

  • Britt Hensley November 1, 2016 at 2:26 pm

Ain’t no crash like a post-Halloween sugar crash!

  • Leisha Hemphill November 1, 2016 at 4:42 pm

Is that the only eyeshadow that you use? Or do you use different colors/layer??? I hope that makes sense:)

    • Mix and Match Mama November 2, 2016 at 4:28 am

Sometimes, I use other shades and layer…but most of the day, that’s all I use.

  • Ashley November 1, 2016 at 5:18 pm

Have you tried the Burberry Brit Sheer fragrance? That is what I wear and I love it. Thanks for sharing your favs!!

  • Jeanie November 1, 2016 at 5:51 pm

Very curious as to how long it takes to apply all that makeup. I love Flowerbomb, too, but haven’t tried the Burberry Brit. I have some Burberry lotion that smells divine.

    • Mix and Match Mama November 2, 2016 at 4:28 am

Oh gosh, 8 minutes? It doesn’t take long at all!

  • sarah joelson November 1, 2016 at 10:04 pm

Shay – Thanks so much for sharing your beauty favorites. What perfect timing…I loved your makeup in your Halloween pictures and was curious what you used. :-> Your eyes always look so beautiful but without being too “made-up”. Do you apply your eyeliner to the top & bottom of your eyelid? What about your mascara ….do you apply to the top & bottom lashes or just top? Thanks again for sharing! Can’t wait for your Christmas Decorating posts! Would also love to see some holiday (Christmas) outfit ideas too! And I recently bought your “Eats” Cookbook and love it. I have already made the Candy Corn cupcakes twice and they were a hit both times!!! Thank you!

    • Mix and Match Mama November 2, 2016 at 4:28 am

Well, thank you so much! I always apply mascara to top and bottom. Eye liner, I go both ways. About half the time, I just do the top and the other half, I do both.

  • Jen November 2, 2016 at 8:57 am

You should try Younique eye primer when you run out. It’s amazing!!!

  • Amanda November 2, 2016 at 5:50 pm

Love these kind of posts! Thank you!

I, too, would love to see a skincare post. I’m always curious what others use to clean their faces and wash off the makeup. Sometimes it’s such a drag and I feel like there’s GOT to be an easier way. Haha!

  • Elle November 4, 2016 at 6:01 pm

Btw, if you want to clean your beauty blender, beauty blender makes a solid cleanser (like a bar of soap) that will make your blender look almost new! I try to use it once a week at least. (Sorry, my OCD got the better of me.) love your posts and I live for the urban decay primer.

  • Erika November 5, 2016 at 9:33 am

I live in Virginia Beach where the humidity is pretty much around until Christmas and comes back in March! I’m also a wedding photographer which means sweating it out for hours and hours during hot days. I swear by Benefit cosmetics POREfessional face primer (you can wear it with nothing over too!) and the Urban Decay All Nighter spray. I can make it through an entire outdoor wedding (8-10 hours) and not look like I just walked through a car wash!! I switched from a pencil for my eyebrows to Wunderbrow and haven’t looked back! Stays put through sweating, swimming and looks natural!

  • Amy November 15, 2016 at 8:48 am

So this might seem like a creepo request, but I’ve been obsessed with your eyeliner application lately, or maybe just recently started noticing it?! It’s a great mix of standing out without looking like too much, and I’d love a tutorial on how you do it if that’s possible. Thanks 🙂

  • Heather Moffit November 15, 2016 at 7:44 pm

I always use coconut oil to take off make up too! and wipe it off with baby wipes so I can throw it away so that it doesn’t clog my pipes. Just an idea????
